“why should I be mad?” you ask softly, as you continue to cut the carrots you needed for the soup, it was a family recipe. a hand slams behind you against the counter making you jump; the knife slipping and cutting you.

“childe…i can’t say anything because it was something I expected,” you utter, blinking away the tears from your eyes. liar, you expected none of that. you manoeuvre yourself to the sink only to be dragged back, childe puts your finger in his mouth softly sucks to stop the bleeding.

ah! a warm blush spreads across your cheek as you held eye contact. no, stop! you sharply drew your hand out of his mouth. “childe…i do truly love you I really do but do you?…”

a sharp hiss was heard before he grabbed you bringing you close. tears appear once more as you start to shake slowly, he seems to be holding on to you tightly. “it was a stupid drunk accident…i can’t lose you! my loyalty to you will always be the same as it.”

you internally frown, a drunk accident huh? you were no fool but now? you were a fool in love. childe buries his face in the crook of your neck, he loves doing that and it also is his favourite spot.

“i can try one more but only once more,” you softly speak into his ear. the way his body shivers and he grips you closer before nodding, you knew you had him.

you smiled darkly, full of glee.

he was yours and always would be especially if you had a say in it…

"What are you doing?" The sound of laughter from your lover flooded your ears. He was gasping between his sentences for air. "Uh..." You felt a bead of sweat slide down the side of your face as you looked at Childe who was holding his stomach. Currently, you stood in the middle of your shared kitchen in a complete mess. Cookie dough and batter littered the floor and counter. The unopened chocolate chip bag sat in the middle of the baking disaster. It was covered in flour. Embarrassment showed. On your cheeks, as you tried to explain why your kitchen looks like a war zone. "Childe! You're back early. Uh, you see... I was trying to.." You were trying but failing at baking cookies. Your yearly anniversary was coming up, and you wanted to create something special to give to the ginger, the first thing that came to mind was cookies! The scene was very amusing to Childe. After composing himself, he waltzed over to you and swiped his finger on your cookie dough-covered nose. "Do you not know how to cook one of the easiest pastries? The instructions are on the box." He held the red packaging up to your face, showing you the step-to-step directions while struggling not to laugh at you. "Let me help, baking is one of the things I excel at! Other than conflict of course." There was a smirk prominent on Childe's face as he quickly cleaned the counter and washed his hands. Childe was a very colorful figure-on the outside at least. He was very boisterous a full of energy. He was quite the tease, finding all sorts of ways to poke fun at you. Surprisingly, Childe was very responsible and able to take care of himself. He was like a housewife. When he told you that he was a fatui harbinger, you were taken aback. You wouldn't put it past him to take up a job like that but it was still surprising. You always wondered what his line of work was, but you didn't dig deep into it. After learning about the reasons why he joined the fatui, you no longer stuck your nose into his work life.

"Hello? Y/n?" You snapped out of your daze and made eye contact with him. He smiled at you and cracked his knuckles, ready to take on the cookie recipe. You straightened your posture nervously awaiting his next move.

You both started on your own batches of cookies. Following the directions of the box, you put a cup of softened butter, a cup of white sugar, and two eggs into a large mixing bowl. You grabbed a wooden spoon and started mixing. You looked over to Childe and saw he was almost done with the recipe.

You picked up the pace not wanting to be left behind. Slowly, the two of you baking together started turning into a competition of who could finish earlier.

An ungodly gasp erupted from Childe as you snatched the vanilla extract out of his hands pouring two teaspoons into your own mix.

"Betrayal." You heard from him, his voice laced with hurt. While fetching the baking soda from the pantry Childe put green food dye in your batter.

"MY COOKIES-" Childe laughed but was soon cut off when white icing made contact with his face.

Childe's head craned to the side and faster than you could react, your face was met with your own green cookie batter. You didn't even get to bake them. You pulled your head out of the mixed bowl and turned towards Childe. He stuck a piece of chocolate on your forehead.

"Don't forget the chocolate chips!"

The rest of the day was filled with Childe yelling for his life while you chased him.

However, every time you so much as tried to go see friends, they were always on your back.

    You’ve even seen them in the same area, stalking you. You know they were stalking you, no matter how much they tried to deny it. Xiao’s straight face never fit the made up story and Tartaglia’s laugh was too naïve. You may be their little sister but even family needs some privacy and time apart.

    Speaking of, your bedroom door doesn’t have a lock on it and the handle is faulty from the last time Tartaglia tried to get it in, breaking the mechanism so now all you have to do is lightly push it open. One time you stuck your dresser in front so you could have some space, though that lead to Xiao putting a hole in the door and a wide-eyes Tartaglia with one leg already in your bedroom window which was on the second floor.

he remembers how that exact smile of yours drooped slightly in devastation that day. the day he left you. the exact day of the previous year when you both swore that you would be each other’s. you remember the feeling, like a slap to the face.

so why? why was he back? and why were you so willing to take him back?

a comfortable silence takes over and you move your hand to ruffle his hair. your fingertips caress his messy mop with utmost care, as if he was going to break like glass with the slightest pressure. your fingernails scratch his scalp and he instantly relaxes. well, his arms around your waist don’t.

“we can’t keep doing this, y’know?” you sigh, rubbing his back gently. he could feel his heart weigh down and the fuzzy feeling in his chest ceases. he knows what you mean, but he wishes he doesn’t.

“keep doing what?” his voice is still raspy and tired, like it was every single morning when you woke beside him.

“this. all of this.” he hears his heart crack and he thinks you did too. “it’s wrong,” you add, ignoring how your heart thumps.

“then take me back.” you jump slightly, not expecting how immediate his response was. “if you take me back, everything will be the same again. like this all never happened,” he trailed off.

He was glad that Teucer came with someone sort of capable of protecting him, but also worried about your safety.

ʚ⁺˖↪ You sometimes visit him on his travels on your own, and you always greet him with a bruise or some sort of injury. It scares him so much, and looks like he's about to murder someone.

ʚ⁺˖↪ Scolds you so much when he is bandaging you up or putting ice on a bruise. If it's a more serious injury, then he will make you stay in one place, so you can heal.

ʚ⁺˖↪ When exploring with you, he literally has to hold you back. Like, he has to hold you down with a hug, so you don't fight some random people. You're just flailing in his arms. He uses this as an excuse to say you're not ready for exploring.

ʚ⁺˖↪ This is now a challenge to you and you try so many times. You fail though, and it leaves Childe smugly laughing while saying 'I told you so' or something along those lines.

ʚ⁺˖↪ Tries to set rules with you, like don't get into a serious battle without him there, don't steal his weapon, and don't pick fights with the fatui. But you, being rebellious, you do not listen. In fact, you do all three at the same time… On multiple occasions.

ʚ⁺˖↪ He had to bail you out of almost dying a few times during those times. He just picks you up, sets you off to the side and finishes your fight.

ʚ⁺˖↪ When he does catch you being a chaotic little gremlin, Childe will just watch until he knows you can't handle it. Once he sees you either losing or getting really fucked up, he steps in and gets you out in a second.

ʚ⁺˖↪ It's another competition you two have. It's to see how fast Childe needs to get involved and how long you last before he needs to get involved.

ʚ⁺˖↪ It's a tie right now, with 77 on both sides. It's kind of astonishing to be honest. And you both make sure to keep track of the score, with slight alterations to the score.

"Last time I checked, little bro, I had 78."

"No, you dumbass, I had 78!"

ʚ⁺˖↪ You both insult each other so much, it's kind of funny. The insults get worse and make less sense as time goes on.

ʚ⁺˖↪ Childe also likes to fake being hurt by your insults. You call him out on his bullshit, though, especially when he does it in front of people that he knows.

ʚ⁺˖↪ Does a full dramatic pose and pretends to faint. You just catch him and roll your eyes as you just throw insult after insult at him.

"Oh, you wound me, my dearest brother!"

"Oh come on, I know you're just being stupid"

ʚ⁺˖↪ You do care about Childe though, like immensely. That's sort of why you're so rebellious. You're trying to prove to him that he doesn't need to worry about you and that you're capable of being able to care for yourself and him.

ʚ⁺˖↪ If Childe does get wounded in a battle, then you take over until the threat is gone. You rush over to his side and bandage him up. You both sort of tease each other about it, but you do it more so because you're anxious.

ʚ⁺˖↪ Childe does and has learned self-control, just so you can see that you don't have to fight all the time or be intimidating. He genuinely tries to be a good role model to you, and he tries to teach you as best he can.

ʚ⁺˖↪ You just call him stupid, though, but you understand what he's trying to do. You appreciate him for that, and sometimes you get Childe a gift of some sort to show your gratitude.

ʚ⁺˖↪ If you two are playing games, the both of you are cheating. And once one of you realize the other is cheating, it becomes a rough housing play fight.

"You cheated! Now you have to pay!"

"You cheated too! Why do I have to pay if you're not going to, you hypocrite!"

ʚ⁺˖↪ When you leave after traveling to visit him, he gives you an hour-long lecture on what not to do and what to do. He also demands that you write him as soon as you can. Of course, you don't do any of these things, except you do write him a letter.

ʚ⁺˖↪ You're just the rebellious gremlin of the family and occasionally give Childe many near heart attack moments with how often you feel the urge to be violent and take on Celestia
