Alphonse is one of the characters of all time I think about him constantly. He’s a 14 year old boy’s soul stuck in a giant scary suit of armor. He’s a gentleman and he’s kind and he has good conflict deescalation skills but his body is a giant scary suit of armor. He befriends every evil henchman he comes across. He loves kittens. He’s a little shit to his older brother sometimes, as all younger brothers are. But his body is a giant scary suit of armor. Arakawa really popped off with Alphonse

I think people tend to overlook Al's struggles. Just because you can't see it, just because his demeanor is typically shown to be that of a happy child; He is suffering damn near if not worse than Ed.
He got his body stripped from him, he can't preform daily tasks that humans need to do to even feel a semblance of normalcy. He doesn't need to breathe, eat, sleep, he can't show emotion, he can't cry, he can only piolit the vessel of which his soul is encased in.
He doesn't blame Ed, I find that very clear. I think, similar to how Ed blames himself for all of this occurring, that Al blames himself for being in this predicament. He believes it's his fault for not saying no to Ed, to not telling him that it was a bad idea. Al also probably feels guilt for not being able to remember much about Trisha and before the human transmutation that led him to be bonded to the armor.
At the end of the day they were both grieving children who longed for one of the only people in their life who loved them. They both did something that changed their lives forever and they're both struggling to com to terms with that in their own ways. They're even struggling to try and solve this problem, with constant research and leads when Ed joins the military.
Anyway that's my TED talk, I'm gonna explode now.

I know I reblogged a post of this story once, but I could not find it in my tags and it was very hard to find it via google (but I did!). It was also never officially translated or made available in the US. So I decided I’d just do a new post and properly tag it.
This is a very sweet and heartwrenching little story everyone should have a chance to enjoy. These kids are the best family.

abt the hand itch post u reblogged i bet ed would also use like, an edge of his automail arm or leg perhaps. i bet the way worse thing would be the phantom itches tho, and i wonder if the automail presents its own issues since the nerves are connected? idk the silly post got me thinking dhdhd
Absolutely; Or consider he uses a table corner. Aggressively, just like scratching his hand against it and whoevers around is just like "Uh what the hell is wrong with this kid?"
I think he'd still get phantom pains/feelings because he still can't *feel* the automail. His nerves are connected in the sense of controlling, there's no nerves throughout the automail to contain feeling and pain; Therefore most likely he'd still get those phantom pains.
What I'm unsure about is Al, like he doesn't have a nervous system and all that in the armor; But does he get phantom pains or feelings? I also wonder if he can feel when the armor is groaning against something (e.x. water pressure.) Due to his soul inhabiting the armor. Would his soul feel the pressure?
But real on the thinking, I'm always thinking in this sorta sense; Feel free to ask more questions like this bc they're silly!!!!!!

an alphonse headcannon i had and shared to @the-catmans-offical-2 , alphonse is finally healed, and it rains for the first time after months in the hospital, so id like to think he just sits outside in the rain all muddy, since it's something he missed for a long time.
Fma (either one) where everything's the same but when Al's in the armor he just sounds like the pink trombone.

What if like, instead of armor Al's soul inhabits a different object?
What if it was one of Ed or Al's toys? They're young kids, so I suspect they'd have toys (You can't tell me Ed and Al didn't have stuffed animals that they'd use for comfort after their mother died).
Now I'm just imagining an AU where Al's soul is in smth like a plush that either him or Ed owned, a gift from their mom before she died, and Ed just attaching Alphonse's soul to it.
I feel like they'd have to keep it a secret, maybe pinako and winry would know but no one else. Not Roy nor Riza nor anyone. To everyone except Ed and the remaining rockbells, Al is dead and didn't survive the human transmutation; But Ed *insists* on carrying around this plushed animal that he constantly talks to, and Roy swears he heard it speak or saw it move.
Idk this was just a thought but now I wanna draw up smth for it; Has anyone else thought of this? Like, alternatives to the armor I mean in the terms of other items the boys would have. I need to check again but I'm pretty sure I saw two toys in the first episode in the room Ed and Al preformed the human transmutation, so I mean it could've happened. From what I remember there was a doll and a bear, but I could be wrong.
Ok so I'm loosing motivation again for tonight so I got some sketches for the Al centric AU I was talking about with his soul inhibiting a plush or stuffed animal rather than the suit of armor. Yes, it's impractical for the plot or whatever; But I think it's silly so I will be silly.
This isng a ref sheet or anything, it's just some random doodles that came to mind before I said fuck it and gave up.
I'm gonna call this AU "plush al au" in the tags, just a heads up.
The place where I put the blood seal is temporary until I either figure something else out or whatever. Idk yet, this AU is very early stages.
