Fanfic Ask Game - Tumblr Posts

🥺🤡💋

Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

When Murray finally realized just how badly his actions have affected Ben, and everyone else… Then he tries his best to fix it

What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?

Ben’s reaction after Murray wrote that fanfic about them. Especially the line; “Your hair isn’t even raven! It’s just really dark brown!”

First kiss fics. Love em or hate em?

I write ‘em all the time! I especially love when they’re Enemies to Lovers. All of the confusion and conflicting emotions, knowing it’s wrong when it feels so right, thats the good shit right there

2, 16, and 45 for the writer asks!! 🥰🥰

2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?

So the top five are;

Fanart (10), Fluff (9), Giftart (8), Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot (8), Digital art (6)

But for the top 3 actually writing related ones;

Fluff (9), Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot (8), and Kissing (4)

They definitely do accurately represent what I generally write lmao

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)?

Honestly I'm a simple guy, so anything that's a Trans!Steve AU. I don't care if it's with powers or without or supernatural themed, or whatever. I've read a couple, but the ones I read were very worried about being as PC (for lack of a better term) as possible. And I appreciate that effort, but it sort of was to the detriment of the story.

Mostly ensuring that no of course he doesn't use THAT part of his anatomy, he's a transman after all! sort of stuff. Which, as a trans guy... I get it, but it was also alienating for me because lmao I do use those parts of me and that doesn't make me less Transmasc.

I'd love someone else to write it and to read that AU, but at the same time it seems like I might have to be the one to write it in the end.

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?

Usage of similes, mostly. I'm able to string them together a lot better to build a more thorough picture than I used to. (it's definitely not spelling and punctuation, that's as bad as it's ever been lmao)

39, 45, 49. ❤️

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?

There's a few aspects, although if you asked me to outright pinpoint who inspired them, I'm not certain I'd be able to answer. There's a few fanfic authors that use lots and lots of — em dashes and from them I learned to love the fuck out of them.

In addition to that, single word breaks between things like.

He couldn't believe his eyes—what he was seeing in front of him. Terrified. Unequivocally, absolutely, he was terrified.

And I know I learned somewhere the whole thing with playing around with italic, bold, and bold italic to add more emphasis to something. But that was at least ten years ago, and I'm not certain any longer.

I read a lot. I used to read even more. It's hard to remember where every little bit comes from, unfortunately.

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?

Dialogue. While dialogue definitely is something that seems to have come naturally to me in general (it's probably all those years sitting at the table with adults and listening to them talk as a wee tot) it's gotten exponentially better over the years.

49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!

Technically I haven't been working on ANYTHING writing wise in the last few weeks. But I have restarted a gift intended for my girlfriend (as you know because I've already shared this with you lmao) over two years ago. So that's what everyone is gonna get a chunk of.

When they finally arrive at the cabin, Steve sees a flash of lighting, followed by an almost deafening crack and roll of thunder moments later. They’re inside, before it happens again. There’s still laughter on their lips as they all but tumble through the door, but soon the mirth is replaced with the sound of teeth chattering and the drip, drip, drop of rain soaked clothes. Quickly they are creating large puddles on the welcome mat just inside the door. Steve shakes his head, amused as droplets of water fling this way and that and, he licks at his lips, catching a few on his tongue. He turns to Tony and, he means to say something… But, whatever that something is, it’s lost immediately as he looks at the man standing next to him. He’s struck with the fact that no one has any right to look so good in waterlogged clothing, with their hair plastered to their head and their lower lip quivering from the cold. And, yet, Tony does. His shirt and jeans are stuck to him like cellophane, and this close Steve can see the rise of goose flesh along his clavicles. Painted across his cheeks is a rosy red flush, and Steve… Steve barely remembers to breathe. Longer than he means to, he stares, until Tony’s dark brown eyes meet his. Despite the cold clinging beneath his skin, Steve feels the telltale heat of an embarrassed flush making its way over the rise of his cheeks. He shivers and a moment later, Tony offers him a smile. It almost seems knowing. Perhaps he’s just seeing things. “What?” Tony asks, after another moment, inclining a brow. “Huh? Oh—uh. Nothing, really, I was just considering taking a shower to warm up. Looks like you might need it more than me.” Steve replies, and the shower is absolutely something he made up on the spot. Tony’s grin becomes broader, seeming to be even more knowing than before and Steve wants to fidget under the scrutiny. There’s no way Tony knows what he was actually thinking. That Tony knows how Steve actually feels about him. If there was, he would have said something by now—Tony is many things, but none of those has ever been bashful.  After another handful of seconds, Tony shakes his head. “Naw. Have at it, Cap. I’ll get changed and start a fire while you’re in there.” It’s as those words leave Tony’s lips that Steve realizes that now he has to commit to his lie. The alternative is to admit it was a lie and then be forced to explain why, exactly, he’d been staring at Tony. He doesn’t see that going over well—how does one explain being hopelessly in love with their best friend without alienating them in the same breath? It’s easier to go with the lie. “Okay. Thanks, Tony,” Steve says, and he turns and makes his way into the singular bedroom the cabin contains.

Read it!

Love it!

Read it again!

I’m answering questions in a separate post cause there is a lot of reblogs and comments on the other 😭

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

Asked by @blackforrestpunk

I’m going to be answering about Roses and Wolfsbane for these questions unless someone asks otherwise! It will contain spoilers btw!

So the pairing I chose for this story is Rerik which traces back to the source material that inspired me to write, which was fanart of a vampire Erik and vampire hunter Raoul au she made up! It’s since been archived unfortunately 😪

I love their dynamic and it gives me a lot of creative freedom to write banter and complex feelings! In this particular story Raoul and Erik were the perfect two to convey a story of hatred, jealousy, longing, understanding, and acceptance :)

for the writing ask, "on one memorable occasion, toriel received a letter from the underground's newspaper, asking her to write something for them- it didn't have to be long, or particularly humorous or informative or reassuring or anything, but they thought it would be fascinating for everyone involved-! was what they said."

The pen is heavy in her hand as it hangs above the clear, white paper.

It feels as though she has held the position the entire two hours she has been at her desk, pouring over her journal in an attempt to get even a measly scratch down. It is not that she has no ideas— when one has lived a life as long as hers, the stories are anything but finite —simply that none seem to fit. Such broad a prompt she’s found that actually nailing it down is almost impossible!

… But she will try. She must.

The war comes to mind; and is relevant too, considering their recent freedom. Many a tale could be woven from her time on the battlefield, of the monsters she’d met over a pint of ale and a sad story. Of the late nights her ex-husband spent with her, consulting Gerson on strategy after strategy to make it out the other side. Of the months she’d spent honing her healing magic to be strong enough for any wounded soldier who slunk to her infirmary, of the ones she saved and the ones she lost-

Perhaps not.

She could write about her firstborn children; those days in the garden they’d shared. Melancholy memories of eating pie and reading in the living room and singing songs of old. The time Asriel caught his first snail. Chara’s first flower, planted all by themself with no help from their father. Anything with her beloved twins….

But that story too ends in tragedy and drags out an old ache in her chest she tries sorely not to revisit.

Perhaps her time upkeeping the ruins?

That idea is done away with the instant it slips into her mind.

She hasn’t even told her closest friend of all those drunken nights and the grief that sat so heavy in her chest that it burned. It would be WILDLY inappropriate (and somewhat embarrassing) to send in a personal guide on how to turn one’s self imposed prison into a home.

Toriel let’s put a snortish sort of sigh and sets down the pen. A claw finds its way to press against her tired eyes as she allows herself to slump against the table. Unfortunately, the pressure does not yield any clarity. If anything, it leaves her more frustrated with herself.

Still, she holds it a moment longer. Just in case.

She is just about to go back to her writing and pondering and hovering, when the bookshelf catches her eye. The spines are worn down to the bone (hah, she’ll write that one down when she’s in better spirits), so faded and cracked that their names are barely legible.

She doesn’t need them, she knows each tome by heart. So she cannot help but let her eyes rest longingly on a particularly worn out, rust colored book on the farthest right. Perhaps she can allow herself a break. Perhaps a glass of wine and her favorite joke book will-

She turns so quickly back to the table that her chair wobbles.

The pen meets the paper with a glorious scratch, finally putting her elegant cursive along the page. She can’t even be bothered by the ink staining her fingers or how it smudges sometimes under her hand.

The world is a sad, terrible, amazing place. She knows that better than most. And history itself has just changed irreparably, for better or for worse. Monsters that had never even dreamed of the sky can suddenly indulge in them with a single glance up. Humans who didn’t even know of her people’s existence are seeing them on the daily. People are overjoyed. People are terrified. People are still angry. One night cannot take away thousands of years of an ache strong enough to be felt through the generations. The past hurts and the future is uncertain.

So she writes down twenty-one of her favourite jokes.

With a world so complicated and scary and wonderful, perhaps they all just need one simple, momentary thing to laugh at.
