Maggie gave him a little smile. "I'm glad you like it," she said quietly. She was very relieved that she had found the right gift for him, even though she barely knew him. Of course she was aware that the thought alone was what counted, but it was still nicer if the recipient actually liked what they got.

Of course, Maggie could have taken the easy way out and just tried to read his mind, but she thought it would be rude to simply snoop into someone else's mind.

"Uhm… I also got some cake, it's downstairs in the kitchen if you want… But I didn't know how old you'd be so I just put a random number of candles on it…"

It had been almost a week since Maggie found out about Finn's birthday. Well 'found out' more or less. It wasn't like she did it on purpose, but sometimes the people's voices got so loud that her shield just failed and she couldn't really block out the voices anymore.

That's what happened with Finn, who had been thinking more often about this coming day lately.

Maggie was aware of the fact that they hadn't known each other that long or that well and if she was honest, she had no idea what to get him. Of course she could have tried to read it, but she still had respect for the privacy of others and there was nothing more private than the own thoughts. So Maggie had to guess. But in the end it's the thought that counts after all.

Slowly Maggie approched Finn, as she cleared her throat to get his attention before she handed him a box of pralines with a pendant that could be put on a necklace, bracelet or key chain, depending on what he preferred. Beside this, was a card that said 'Happy Birthday'. "I... uh... kinda found out it's your birthday. I know it's not much and I don't even know if you like chocolate but happy birthday anyway."

"Hy...," Maggie answered quietly and hid a little in the shadows. She had been watching the new boy for a while now. He had arrived here with the new girl, the new one who was apparently Wolverine and Storm's daughter who had been missing for the last years.

Maggie could easily empathize with this girl named Hadassah, as the two were similar in at least two ways: they were both mutants and both were kidnapped as small children, torn from their families in order to use them. And when both of them were finally able to free themselves, they had no idea about their own origins.

This boy however, he was different. He wasn't a mutant, so she had learned that from her father. More or less. Of course he hadn't told her in person, but sometimes she caught a spark of thought from the people around her. It wasn't like she was snooping in the heads of others, this was not her style but sometimes she just couldn't controll it and it slipped into her mind.

The blue haired girl was curious about this new boy. who was he? Why was he here, at a school for mutants? She was so lost in thoughts and so focused on finding out more that she hadn't realized she had been speaking to him through her thoughts. ||Who are you?|| She asked him without using her voice.

The last few days had been a crazy turn of events. First coming back and having no idea what was happening, only to find out he had lost five years in the blink of an eye. Then Hadassah coming to him, and for the first time since their days in HYDRA, she was actually asking for his help. Now he found himself at a school for people like his best friend. They called themselves mutants. The word sounded familiar to him, but that was all. He had probably heard it in passing from his father or one of his colleagues.

As Hadassah walked off with her parents down the hall, Finn stood still in place. He was glad that she finally seemed to find her place, and that she seemed genuinely happy. That was a first, and he wasn’t going to pull her away from that, despite the fact that he didn’t know how he could fit in here. He wasn’t even sure they’d welcome him. He wasn’t a mutant. He nearly turned to leave, but something made him stop. A voice in his head, one that was not his own, but also not just anyone’s. This voice was actually saying something to him, unlike most minds that he read that were a jumbled mess.

He closed his eyes, trying to focus in on it, but that’s when someone else’s thoughts entered his mind. These thoughts came from someone who was not far behind him. He turned around to see the face of a young girl, the same one who the foreign thoughts belonged to. “Uh… hi.”

It only took a second for Maggie to read him like an open book. His expression, his thoughts and especially his feelings were more than clear to Maggie. The thought that people walking by might think they were having a stare-off made her smile a little.

Honestly, he wasn't wrong with that assumption. After all, not everyone here could read minds. However, her smile was barely visible and she quickly put her neutral façade back on. For Maggie, it was awkward to just smile in public when there was no reason that others could explain why she was smiling.

She also didn't missed how Finn was trying to filter out her thoughts. He didn't seem to be that experienced yet with this, but that was more than understandable. Maggie also had a lot of problems with it and only managed to learn it with the help and guidance of the professor and Jean. And even today she sometimes had problems filtering out specific thoughts.

She really couldn't say what was better: filtering out the thoughts or completely blocking out the thoughts of others.

After a while he finally noticed that she hadn't asked her question out loud, but was speaking to him through her mind. Maggie gave him a slight nod. "Yes, I can," she confirmed again out loud, although she realized that it wasn't really necessary, considering that he could also read minds. But even then it would have been strange if he had asked her something in spoken words and she hadn't answered him properly. Weird and in a way also rude in Maggie's opinion.
