I’m Aromantic- but I don’t get all this commotion??? Like why can we not all just ship what we want to ship - what is canon is canon, and what the fans write/create/enjoy is totally seperate. You don’t have to read any headcanons you don’t believe in, but there’s no need to be so confrontational to other people who enjoy the same content as you!
I get there’s little/no AroAce representation on tv at the moment, but to be honest, the extent to which Yelena is ‘confirmed’ AroAce in the MCU specifically is shaky at best. I get why you’re mad, how could I not? But surely it doesn’t matter what people think about Yelena’s sexuality enough to be confrontational and angry at your fellow fan up until the point that they’re directly erasing a confirmed AroAce identity, which Yelena is not to my knowledge.
shipping an aromantic asexual character who has CLEARLY shown that they're not interested in a romantic relationship and would rather spent their days with a pet and travel the world and really doesn't want ANYTHING to do with romance/sex is bad. do you want me to repeat it slowly so you can grasp that concept or what....
heaving a big aro sigh about the way amatonormativity is so baked into the language we use to talk about relationships. "Significant Other." "Having feelings for someone." "Special Someone" (insert goofy eyebrow wiggle here). even the little kid playground chatter of "do you like them?" We talk circles around romance but it's assumed to always be there, at the center of everything. it needs no qualifier attached. all you have to do is hint at romance for it to be assumed. if you want to talk about love, about mutual care, about deep devotion, outside of romance, you have to go out of your way to clarify what you mean. i want words that convey significance without carrying the weight of other implications.
