What is Aphrodisia?

Aphrodisia is a festival to honor Lady Aphrodite, specifically Her epithet Aphrodite Pandemos (Lady of All)

When is Aphrodisia?

We don’t know exactly when Aphrodisia is or was in ancient times. Some things that came up in my research were: the third week in July to the third week in August, the summer solstice, and July 13. Because I personally need a specific date to celebrate, I will be celebrating on July 13, which happens to be tomorrow.

Traditional Celebrations

Traditionally, to start the festival, a dove was sacrificed to purify Her temple, and a statue of Her would be brought to the sea and washed, followed by a procession. Feasts were very common during Aphrodisia.

Modern Celebration Ideas

So of course we probably can’t sacrifice doves and parade a statue of Her from a temple to the sea nowadays, but there are many ways we can still celebrate Aphrodisia. These are a few ideas, you don’t have to do all of them or any at all.

🐚 Purify Her Altar

🐚 Spend time with Her

🐚 Bake something

🐚 Offer a libation or some sort of food

🐚 Do whatever makes you feel close to Her

🐚 Offer incense and/or light a candle for Her

🐚 Have a self-care day

🐚 Spend some time researching Her

I will be wearing a color that reminds me of Her, lighting Her candle, enjoying the small things in life, spending time with my partner, painting my nails, listening to music that reminds me of Her, and I may watch a romance movie. I will try to bake something or offer her something if I can.

Remember that no matter what you do for Her, or even if you don’t do anything extra at all, She will be happy. You do not need to do any elaborate celebrations or offerings in order to please Her. Just do what you can, Lady Aphrodite understands ❤️

Should've listened to my instincts when I wanted to tell my girl cousin I'm pagan. Boy cousin respected it and told me to stay safe because he knows very well how our family is. Should've just told him. She already looked at me differently when I told her I wasn't Christian anymore, when I wasn't comfortable praying to the Christian God when our family would beg me just because I'm the eldest grandchild, I don't want to because I don't want to disrespect Him.

I know it's her opinion, I know she has the right to have an opinion.

But for me and many people it's not stupid like how she thinks it is. Such a big blow, ngl.

my daily routine with Aphrodite

i wake up and say good morning to her, i kneel and kiss her altar space or if i have extra time i sit with her for a few minutes

i leave for school

throughout my day i find small things to devote to her, like admiring myself in the mirror, telling my friends i love them, adding images to my pinterest, etc.

when i get home i always say hello and if i’m eating a snack she might like i’ll offer it

after i shower, i often apply lotion and brush my hair in front of her altar space

when i get free time, i light her candle and just sit with her, usually i read, draw, or watch tv during this

before bed is when i do the majority of offerings. i usually give a food item (usually chocolate or another candy) and i’ll often give a small poem, drawing, letter, etc. every night i spritz her space with perfume, as an offering but also because the smell reminds me of her

i always say goodnight to Lady Aphrodite when i get settled in

I just started calling for Aphrodite ever since she stopped my heartache while I was having a mental breakdown. I've been praying to her and thanking her for little things. I made my first offering which is a gold bracelet with these cute hearts, flowers, some shiney pink stone as charms.

I think I pissed her off when I openly started talking bad about a guy that's really crappy to people (esp girls) in my class. I havent felt her i think shes ignoring me.

I'm new to paganism and working with deities, i have been wanting to explore and experience this for about a year now. I now worship Aphrodite and so far she's the only one I'm connecting with.

First thing I learned from her: CHEATING IS NOT DEMURE

She doesnt care if its just on a test its still cheating. It does not honor her (dont come at me im VERY new to this yall).

I was legit thinking of cheating on my test the other day because of how desperate i was to pass. It was 30 minutes before the test and i was reviewing the coverage and thought of cheating and ways to cheat.

I swear I heard her say "thats not very demure" !?!?!? IM- IM AMAZED! I am CHOKED, I am SPWNROEJS!?

I only have a make-shift altar of Aphrodite because I dont have money, space, and my family is strictly religous. So i keep it subtle.

So, her altar is at the shelf next to my table and i looked over it and i could feel this disappointed energy and im like "okay i wont" I WAS SCREAMING INSIDE! DID APHRODITE JUST TALK TO ME!? LIKE- OMG!?

AND YES I WILL BE USING MY TUMBLR TO INTERACT WITH OTHER PAGANS AND LEARN FROM THEM HEHE 🩷

Went to a christian church the other day because my family is christian. i decided go let Aphrodite control my outfit choice that day and she dressed me in my prettiest floral dress. I did it to honor her eveywhere I went! <3

I had never felt more gorgeous than I did that day. Lady Aphrodite really boost up my confirdence.

Ngl I didnt expect this shift when I started worshipping her.

As a newbie, I still have a long way to go in getting to know Lady Aphrodite and understanding her as her devotee. I really want to go full out on my worship to her but I can only do the bare minimum and tiny acts of devotion due to my unsafe environment.

The best thing I can do is offer her pretty flowers that I see during my walk, a frikin leaf, drawings of her that represents my gratitude for her guidance and patience, and a very horribly written poem.

If you're like me, living in an unsafe environment and unable to properly practice Paganism, please give me suggestions on how I can get closer to Lady Aphrodite and be even deeper and spiritual with her.

I thought I'm ugly. Sometimes I still think I am. Ever since working and building a relationship with Aphrodite its been like this looking in the mirror:

Me, staring at myself and acne: wow thats ug-

Aphrodite: i dare you.

Me: naturally occuring, im very pretty

And not only that, I've been able to control my anger better. its like she amped my patience! Yes, I asked her to bless my heart and fill it with love to share with people. And I believe to love is to be patient. Sure, I lose control every now and then but then again, I'm just a human who has a long way to go!

Thank you to Lady Aphrodite for helping me become a better and more loving person to myself and others. A long way to go but the journey isnt loney, I had Aphrodite to hold my hand and guide me to the right paths of life 🩷

havent been feeling Aphrodite's presence that much unless I'm outside.

Maybe it's because I haven't been sleeping but OH BOY SCHOOL IS KILLING ME (I even fell asleep while reading a question on a quiz)

I usually give her flowers, drawings, poems, maybe lay down some romance book ideas for her. So, as i was doing it my cousin was like "girl im abt to go home and all you care about is aphrodite? Like thats enough stop that- whos more important me or her?" And im like ???? MAAM??

As an ex christian i know that the christian God is their first priority. So, shouldnt she understand the your god comes first thing? cuz personally, I do put Aphrodite first because if it wasnt for her I would be even worse than I already was before her.

I also dont think she realized Christianity has similar practices with Pagans esp with offerings. Like she scoffed when I told her "yeah, we give offerings" LIKE MAAM YOU DO TITHES AND OFFERINGS IN YOUR CHURCH???
