Introduction

I’ve been so worried about what to say in my intro that I still haven’t done it after nearly three months so I’m just going to smush my perfectionism down and finally say something!

My name is Anna and I’m 25. I’m a Leo and a Slytherin and my passions (aside from writing) are fashion, cooking, and the Real Housewives (I mean can you blame me tho). I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember but with a few breaks and am just now getting back into it after a hiatus. I have a few WIPs whose working titles are just keywords to help me remember which is which (am I killing this writing thing or what). Here’s a list:  - Dust: post-apocolyptic-esque story of a girl who runs away from home to move across the country and ends up tangled up in some drama and turf wars in the desert - Magic: modern-day urban fantasy about a girl who inadvertently falls in with a witch and a warlock and realizes she’s less normal than she thought - Blue: a disease is ravaging a country and a group of friends set up a haven for victims - and one victim in particular throws them all for a loop - Lost: medieval-esque fantasy about a kingdom whose princess disappears and the girl they take to be her secret replacement - Cream: the age-old story of a girl who works her way up to high society - and then falls hard

I know these are so vague and definitely not at all the type of blurbs to make you want to pick up a book and read it, but there’s a lot more to them - and I'm going to share all of that with y’all soon!

Magic - Intro

Hello to all you kind souls who have decided to follow me! I’m honestly floored that anyone has even found me and it’s so exciting and terrifying that people actually might be interested in what I write???

Here’s a confession: no one has ever read even one word of my personal writing. Ever. I’m horrified by the idea of sharing it with anyone I know (which I probably need to get over if I want to be a writer lol). ANYWAY I wanted to get over this anxiety obstacle and actually POST SOMETHING so... here it is. The beginning of my project, tentatively titled Magic. Any and all criticism is welcome - I’m not like some delicate flower and I like advice so please share if you have any thoughts or ideas!

Omg okay I’ll stop talking. Here it is.

I knew that crystals were bullshit before Olivia held a pink one up in my face and told me I needed to put it under my pillow to clear out the negative energy. If she hadn’t had such an earnest look on her face, I would’ve smacked that thing out of her hand and walked out. But she did, so I didn’t.

“I don’t think a rock is going to help me get my groove back,” I said, reaching past her to grab what looked like a cat skull off the shelf behind her. Were these even legal? Olivia frowned.

“It’s worth a try,” she said with a shrug, “but whatever. And don’t touch that, it’s probably cursed or something.”

“And your rock isn’t?” I asked, but I put the skull back anyway. “Are you almost done? This patchouli smell or whatever is giving me a migraine.”

“It’s copal,” the girl behind the counter drawled. “It’s for protection.”

Against potential customers? I thought, but I didn’t say it. I just shut my mouth and glanced over at the shopgirl. She didn’t look really any older than us, with long white-blonde hair and green eyes and a serious case of Resting Bitch Face. I looked at her perfectly-ripped grey sweater and artificially-faded black jeans and wondered if she really thought she was a witch, or if she was just playing the part for a paycheck. It’s not like the customers who shopped here would know the difference.

Olivia turned back to glare at me, her frown deepening. “It’s for protection,” she repeated sharply, like I was embarrassing her in front of the cool kids.

“Are you done?” I asked again, and she rolled her eyes but went up to the counter, her little mesh tote bag full of rocks and charms and shit. I heard her saying something about the difference between smoky quartz and rose quartz and abruptly tuned out.

There was a display of ugly silver rings on the shelf and I started trying them on, wondering what they were supposed to do other than turn your fingers green. I almost jumped for joy when Olivia finally tapped me on the shoulder a minute later and said, “Okay, let’s go.”
