WOW omg thank you so much for the reblog! So basically Magic is about the main character (Ren) who has had A Terrible Year and goes to stay with her best friend (Olivia) in the big city just to get away from things for a little while. When she gets there, she finds out Olivia has become obsessed with like the trendy, Instagram-focused, Urban Outfitters-type of magic (which Ren thinks is The Dumbest Shit). So Olivia starts dragging Ren to all these shops and stuff and keeps trying to talk her into getting, like, a tarot reading done, and then, through a series of weird occurrences, it turns out that Ren is actually a REAL WITCH. And in realizing this about herself/awakening, her newfound powers/energies start to pull other magical people toward her - for better or for worse. It’s def a LOT more than Olivia (or Ren) bargained for.

Thank you so much again for the reblog c:

Magic - Intro

Hello to all you kind souls who have decided to follow me! I’m honestly floored that anyone has even found me and it’s so exciting and terrifying that people actually might be interested in what I write???

Here’s a confession: no one has ever read even one word of my personal writing. Ever. I’m horrified by the idea of sharing it with anyone I know (which I probably need to get over if I want to be a writer lol). ANYWAY I wanted to get over this anxiety obstacle and actually POST SOMETHING so… here it is. The beginning of my project, tentatively titled Magic. Any and all criticism is welcome - I’m not like some delicate flower and I like advice so please share if you have any thoughts or ideas!

Omg okay I’ll stop talking. Here it is.

Introduction

I’ve been so worried about what to say in my intro that I still haven’t done it after nearly three months so I’m just going to smush my perfectionism down and finally say something!

My name is Anna and I’m 25. I’m a Leo and a Slytherin and my passions (aside from writing) are fashion, cooking, and the Real Housewives (I mean can you blame me tho). I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember but with a few breaks and am just now getting back into it after a hiatus. I have a few WIPs whose working titles are just keywords to help me remember which is which (am I killing this writing thing or what). Here’s a list:  - Dust: post-apocolyptic-esque story of a girl who runs away from home to move across the country and ends up tangled up in some drama and turf wars in the desert - Magic: modern-day urban fantasy about a girl who inadvertently falls in with a witch and a warlock and realizes she’s less normal than she thought - Blue: a disease is ravaging a country and a group of friends set up a haven for victims - and one victim in particular throws them all for a loop - Lost: medieval-esque fantasy about a kingdom whose princess disappears and the girl they take to be her secret replacement - Cream: the age-old story of a girl who works her way up to high society - and then falls hard

I know these are so vague and definitely not at all the type of blurbs to make you want to pick up a book and read it, but there’s a lot more to them - and I'm going to share all of that with y’all soon!

17 Tags Game

Wow so I got tagged by @radiowrites like... months ago and just now saw it somehow? ANYWAY thank you for the tag!

Nickname: Idk I don’t really have one? My name is Anna and people call me Anna lol

Zodiac: Leo sun, Taurus Moon, Libra rising

Height: 5′4″

Hogwarts House: Slytherin

Last thing I Googled: when the third season of Derry Girls is coming out (and the answer is Not Soon Enough)

Song Stuck in My Head: Shark Smile - Big Thief

Number of Followers: I think like 65 or something? Which tbh is insane based on how infrequently I post

Amount of Sleep: Typically like 7 hours, I love to sleep

Lucky Number: 13. Not trying to be ironic here, that number just comes up a lot at big times in my life

Dream Job: Idk, maybe like a travel writer who covers wineries or something? Or else like the set or costume designer for Succession lol

Wearing: college tee and yoga pants

Favorite Song: changes basically every day but maybe right now it’s like... Idk, Yellow Eyes by Rayland Baxter?

Favorite Instrument: guitar...?

Aesthetic: oh shit. I’m not creative enough to come up with my aesthetic so how about a list of what’s taking up space on my desk instead: mink-colored nail polish, my grandmother’s gold vintage ring in a velvet ring box, a purse-sized day planner stuffed with latte receipts, a charcoal-scented candle, a cheap can of beer with a lipstick stain on the rim, a pale pink lighter, my cell phone (which has a super-cracked screen, but also cases in all my favorite colors so that it always matches my outfit - because I don’t care but I do care).

Favorite Author: Idk - most of my favorite books are debuts so it seems a little early to make that call for any of them. And I don’t want to be the little bitch who says Sylvia Plath, even if it maybe is true deep down?

Favorite Animal Noise: when you wake up a cat and it makes that “brrrt?” sound

Random: Idk what to put here lol except that I tag anyone who read this far and who wants to do the game!!! Love y’all xo

characters who view themselves as tools/weapons first and people second... characters who martyr themselves for a cause because they think that's the only way they can be worth something... characters who push themselves past their breaking point again and again and again... characters for whom devotion and masochism are inseparable... characters whose self-sacrifice becomes self-annihilation...... what was my point again? i had a point. anyway.

11/11 Tag!

WOW I was tagged by the amazing @fictionshewrote to do the 11/11 challenge. Here are her great questions and my v average answers:

1. What do you want to see more of in the book world? (more rep, more of a specific genre, etc) More modern/urban fantasy! I want magic in the big city, not just in Victorian England, damn it.

2. What time of day are you most productive writing-wise? Back in like high school/college I used to be all about writing at night (like post-midnight) but now I feel more productive and focused in the mornings. 8-11am is like peak writing time.

3. Do you have a designated space where you write? Yes! It’s probably not the most professional or productive but I do my best writing on the couch in front of the TV. I watch a lot of Bravo and Netflix while I write haha. I do have a home office but I usually use it for my real job so I like to have a separate space for writing so I can get out of that work mindset and more into a creative/writing mindset.

4. What kind of platforms/programs/tools do you use to write? (Word, notebooks, Google Docs, Scrivener, etc) I use Google Drive mostly so I can work on my WIPs from anywhere. I’ve heard great things about Scrivener but never tried it! Maybe I should look into it.

5. Hardcover or paperback? My heart says hardcover but my bank account says paperback.

6. What’s your favorite story trope? Are you using it in your wip(s)? Ooh probably people who initially hate each other being forced into becoming reluctant partners/eventual friends haha. I just always love that kind of character development. I have a little bit of it going on in Dust between Cara and as-yet-unnamed-lead-guy and somewhat in Magic between Ren and as-yet-unnamed-major-female-character.

7. If you had to send your favorite OC on a blind date with a character from someone else’s book, who would that character be and why? Ohhh I would probably send as-yet-unnamed-lead-guy from Dust out with, like, Hermione Granger so she can show him up and put him in his place.

8. Do you write scenes in order or out of order? In order! Sometimes I do think it holds me back because I’ll open up my WIP and be like “ugh not this again” but usually I think it helps me focus and keep things consistent. I would rather go ahead and plow through the hard parts than save them all until the end and then have to figure out how to string it all together. Also, I think it helps to have multiple WIPs because if I do open one and thing “ugh not this again” I can shelve it and go work on a different one until I’m ready to tackle it again.

9. If your favorite OC was a superhero, what would their superpower be? (assuming, of course, they aren’t a superhero to begin with!) Ooh yikes well several of them actually do have powers (which I won’t get into for the sake of not giving away spoilers) so I guess Brynn (Dust) would want to have... super strength? Or maybe the ability to read minds to help ease her insecurity issues.

10. Describe your ideal writing session. Early morning as the sun is coming up and the sky is getting bright, peace and quiet, all the iced vanilla lattes I can drink. I know I said earlier that I write with the TV on a lot but I focus better in absolute dead silence - which is maybe why I don’t have much done yet on any of my WIPs lol.

11. What do you think would turn your protagonist into a villain? I think well-developed villains still think of themselves as being protagonists/on the right side so it’s all relative, but if anything could make them turn, I think it would be the need for revenge. And that’s probably true in some way for all my OCs.

Okay, I hardly know anyone here at all so I’ll just tag YOU, yes, you, the one who read this all the way through to the end! Bless your heart. Here are my 11 questions:  1. Which of your main characters is your least favorite?  2. Which WIP is the hardest for you to write and why do you think so?  3. What’s a character dynamic that interests you but that you’ve never used?  4. What does your writing space look like? 5. When did you know you wanted to be a writer?  6. Which WIP would you want to be a character in?  7. Which character do you most identify with?  8. What’s your favorite music to write to?  9. Do you feel like any of your WIPs or characters have a “theme song”? 10. Would you ever want your work to be adapted into a movie/TV show? Why or why not? 11. Which books, if any, do you feel have most influenced your WIP?

Have fun!
