FanFic vs AU
1. AU is technically a sub-genre of FanFic.
2. FanFic is original to the extent that it only borrows elements like place, setting and timeline disruptions (e.g. original protag does something on a global scale that changes the future immensely.)
3. AU is relatively new therefore some FanFics may be confused. With that respect refer to point 1 above.
4. AU is both original and unoriginal in its respect. Unlike the general FanFic theory that borrows elements and indirectly interacts with the original work. AU can directly interact with the original work; reader x original, OC x original or interaction of originals. And that's okay because it is AU!
5. FanFic and AU are both "hobbyist" types of work. Simply meaning if you publish your work be ready for a lawsuit. However if you love an original piece and think your spin on it can be wayyy interesting, it is important to find differentiating points and prove the standalone it is so you can publish without plagiarizing.

Ok I have this au??? I don't know if anyone else came up with this idea before me. But what ever. Ok so the idea is that person A is a florist and person B likes person A but is to shy to tell them there feelings. So person B instead of telling there feelings all they do is buy a bunch of flowers from them.

37- Oliver being Bruce's Godparent (and taking him in until Alfred could get (at least part) custody)
The Wayne's were dead, save for their only son, Bruce.
He couldn't believe it.
The funeral went on for hours, what seemed like days even. Oliver had been tasked with comforting the young "prince of gotham" and caring for him until Alfred, the family Butler, could get custody of Bruce.
The car ride was almost as painful as the service.
"......Welp kiddo. We're here."
No response. Oliver sighed, this was going to be difficult.
Traumatized 8-year-old + new environment = hard times ahead.
Ollie got out of the car and cautiously put his hand on Bruce's shoulder, steering him into the mansion. As they made their way to the living room, the elder racked his brain of anything and everything that he could do to help the younger adjust. A room had already been set up, they would discuss details tomorrow morning, and Bruce's stuff was already transfered over.
Oliver's parents were very close to the Wayne's, so it was only natural for Martha and Thomas to name the young adult (his parents already having passed) as the godfather of their only son.
Thea was around Bruce's age, only a few years older, and the boy still had his cousins to bond with, but what in the hell was Oliver supposed to do?!
"Thea, show bruce his room, okay?" he said absentmindedly to the 11 year-old girl. She rolled her eyes at her older brother but stood up from the couch anyway. The pair got fully up the stairs before the man below them heard a muffled "Thanks Ollie."
Oliver smiled sadly. Maybe this wouldn't be as bad (or hard) as he thought.

So in an effort to truly dump as much as I can that has been spawned from A New Infection, here is a mostly complete list of all the alternate universes I have. Briar's characters feature in most of these, so go check out her descriptions and other universes linked at the end. Also! Any title in green only includes my characters, or at the very least, they're the main focus.( @pagesofcursive is Briar's blog, or you can click her name above)
- Family AU
Half our characters are toddlers! and are fostered by the other half. This alternate universe is almost purely fluff and fueled by chaos. The adults need help staying sane.
- Fusion AU
Follow all our characters through high school in a world that has laws from both universes; powerless people are the most populous, followed by elementals (Briar's universe) and vigilantes (my universe) at an even smaller population. There's fluff, plenty of angst, new relationships, and plenty of new, tragic backstories to discover. This alternate universe has the most polished stories, which we will be sure to post, as soon as someone is introduced.
- Game Show AU
Motivated by money, fame, friendship, or blackmail, our characters join a game show. There's betrayal, love, and old friendships being discovered, as everyone attempts to survive each weekly trial and not be eliminated before reaching the end.
- Hogwarts AU
We're both Harry Potter (not J.K Rowling) fans, so it was inevitable that we'd send everyone to Hogwarts. When a parent goes mad and threatens the wizarding world, it's up to our characters to reason with the twisted adult and save their community.
- Post-Apocalypse AU
This was created solely because of my indecisiveness; there are a few versions of ways the world would turn after being saved from the canon setting. The first short story I posted is set here, even though it's not explicitly stated. This is probably the least interesting AU, but possibly one of the more useful ones (for me at least)
- Royal AU
Scandals and servants, nobles and naughtiness; we put all our characters in a loosely fantastical medieval setting. Embodying various roles, two of our characters are neighboring princesses and employ the others. There are witches, demons, and mortal peril, and suffice to say, it's definitely an exciting time.
- Superhero AU
A New Infection characters live in a world of heroes, villains, and vigilantes. The characters are age curved, and they serve significant roles in their local metropolis. Living with gray morals, fraying patience unrecognised potential, Bella, Zach, and Freddie, masquerading under the names Scarlet Maiden, Bladed Officer, and Biohacker, strive to make their mark on the world.
- Survival AU
After being thrown in an arena and forced to battle by an unknown external source, the ten main characters plot and escape their prison and are now faced with surviving a winter wonderland and somehow finding their way home.
- The Perfect Family (TPF) AU
Freddie is officially adopted at a much younger age by Violetta and Aster. This alternate universe was formed by a selfish desire to write about more sapphic found families, balance out the angst, and give Freddie the childhood he needs.
So, yeah! These are all the AUs I've created (that I can currently remember) You can find Briar's post here since she and I wanted to create a list of all the universes we've come up with. Eventually, we may flesh out each concept, with character descriptions and roles exclusive to each universe. We'll also post stories set in many of these settings as we finish them, and we'll be sure to link to our respective master posts.

family au: in this chaotic au, half of our cast of characters have graduated college while the other half are toddlers! when the adorable kids are fostered by the adults, guess what ensues? pure fluff! (well. nothing I write is Completely sans of Angst, so expect a tiny bit of that, but mostly pure fluff!)
royal au: a world of romance and betrayal comes to life in the court of two neighboring kingdoms. there are princesses, witches, knights in shining armor, and a rebellion brewing beneath it all. what will become of our beloved characters?
survival au: mystery and danger collide as our characters are forced into an arena and told to fight by someone unknown. together, they escape, but they find themselves lost in a freezing forest. will they make it home, or will they die trying?
fusion au: elements of our separate novels combine as our characters go through their lives with either elemental powers or the rarer vigilante powers. although they are just in high school, our characters battle angst and tragedy, while making some new friendships and new love as well!
game show au: in this reality tv show, our characters battle it out for the chance to take home the final prize! but money isnāt the only motivation driving some of them forward, which leads to alliances and friendships and romances- but also heartbreaks and betrayals. who will win in the end?
hogwarts au: the aesthetic of a world of magic is a fascinating one, although I would like to personally fight J.K. Rowling, so putting our characters into hogwarts was simple. they all come from different backgrounds and different houses, but the found family is as strong as ever.
the perfect family (tpf) au: violetta and aster adopt freddie, becoming a loving family once and for all. is there fluff? of course! is there angst? well, duh! is there found family? yes! is there a beautifully domestic sapphic relationship? YES! what more could anyone need? this alternative universe feels like the definition of hurt/comfort to me, and I love it.

pirate au: set in the thrilling world of pirates, a princess is torn from the cushy life sheās always known, and she finds herself becoming fond of the beautifully rugged pirate captain. meanwhile, a former pirate captain is betrayed by someone close, and now sheāll stop at nothing to take back her inheritance. there is adventure and mermaids on the horizon, but pirate hunters are hot on everyoneās trail, and one wrong step might be their last.
college au: what it says on the tin! my characters, but in a modern day college setting. when I write scenes out of the setting of my novel, this is the situation I usually place everyone in. there is sweet romance and many chaotic events take place as the year wears on.

A little less recent, but here is a illustration of another one of my characters, Echo, in the void between universes.
When i was a kid i used to believe that the reflections in mirrors or glass was a kind of alternative universe that was exactly the same to ours, except everything is backwards. Like all the terrain was backwards but also small things; like if your right handed you were left handed in this universe. Or maybe you didnāt cut your hair short/grow it out. Other than things like that though you and your backwards self are kinda the same person.
