I truly, truly do not get Aegon III and Viserys II fans that hate on the Velaryon boys and/or the Dragons Twins.
I expect to see bastardphobia and hateful anti-Jace/Luke/Joff takes from TG, because the story directly pits TG characters against Rhaenyra and her boys. I disagree with it, but I can understand where it originates from. But Aegon III and Viserys II are not in any way posed as their siblings’ enemies or rivals in F&B. Even if you argued that there would be conflict should Jace ascend the throne, it still isn’t present in the actual story. Quite the contrary, Aegon III was said to worship his three older half brothers, and clearly cares for and trusts his sisters as we see in his regency.
So what’s the deal? I’m genuinely asking here. If you love Aegon and Viserys, then why hate the family members that they loved and mourned? Why pit them unnecessarily against their own siblings? Why despise a 15 year boy who sacrificed his life trying to save his baby brother? What the hell did these boys or the twins ever do to wrong their younger half brothers? Where does any of this animosity come from???
I can only imagine it stems from feeling like the Velaryon boys and Dragon Twins somehow take something away from Aegon and Viserys. But that’s… profoundly stupid to say the least. What do they take away? Rhaenyra and Daemons love? Love isn’t a finite resource, Rhaenyra has plenty to go around, and if Daemon favors anyone it’s going to be his true born sons. Their status as heir? Aegon and Viserys end up on the throne anyway, how bizarre to beef with a dead 15 year old child for a scenario that never even came to be. It’s not as though Aegon and Viserys even wanted the throne in the first place— they just wanted their family, including their siblings, to be happy and whole.
Like I’m sorry, but I have a hard time believing that hatred for the Velaryon boys could originate from love for Aegon and Viserys. It seems to me like these types of people are anti-Velaryon boys first, and Aegon and Viserys “fans” second. Perhaps toxic Daemyra stans who hate the fact that they had children with other people, or people who fell into the trend of cosplaying anti-bastard bigots and so prefer the “true born” alternative sons. It brings a distinctly Team Green(🤢) energy to the Aegon and Viserys tag that I hate, which imo fundamentally contradicts the spirit of their characters.

The fact that both the HOTD writers and the TG stans are trying to spin Aegon II as "team smallfolk" is ridiculous. Aegon is literally a serial rapist. Hello! So there's not really a clear answer to this that I know of. There's never been a commoner crowned before that has been recorded. Though I think it very well could be possible, since the only requirements seem to be a woman that the knight is interested in. It would definitely be a scandal though, but that could be great conflict in the story if you want!

Daemon's madness caused by Harrenhal and Alys does not have to manifest in this way. Nothing obliges him.
Once again it's just a trashy scene intended to gratuitously shock the viewer and nothing more.
Because in fact this scene does not bring anything concrete to Daemon's character.
The only real consequence of this scene is for the fandom which will use it to further criticize the Targaryens and their practice of incest, even if once again everyone in Westeros practices incest.
To return to the main subject, it is truly degrading and misogynistic to have invoked the image of Alyssa Targaryen on screen for the first time in this way. As a pure sexual object.
This is once again atrocious from a writing standpoint.
That this is not the real Alyssa Targaryen and a pure creation of Alys does not change anything in the unconscious collective impact that this scene will have on the viewer. The fact that the first sort of image they will have received of this female character is this scene. For those who don't know the Alyssa Targaryen book version this will be what this scene shows for those who only watch GOT and HOTD.
There is nothing in the writing that justifies the need for this type of scene.

I got this ask awhile ago, and it's been sitting in my drafts for awhile, I'm so sorry about that anon.
However, now that we're like halfway through s2, I am even more inclined to agree with you. It honestly seems like Alicent's arc is ramping up to her having a "come to jesus" moment where she repents of all her wrongs and tries to reconcile with Rhaenyra (again).
Considering how Aegon III is basically just a set piece (along with Viserys II), I wouldn't be surprised if they gave this formative scene to one of the more "important" characters. And which character has benefitted the most from stealing from others? Alicent. The only difference in this situation would be the writers are stealing from a male character for once.
I also definitely think that if they include Alicent's death (which I'm willing to bet they will), she will be regretting everything with Rhaenyra, not her children. She'll be obsessing over the forced sapphic drama the writers are obsessed with over her own children.
The amount of disrespect HOTD decided to show yet another woman is just....wow. Alyssa Targaryen was an absolute badass who had a loving and healthy relationship with her husband and loved her sons. And this fucking show decided to just do that with her in order to further demonize Daemon.
Over and over this show just completely fucks over the complex and amazing women GRRM wrote. Alyssa being turned into a sexual object to make Daemon appear in a certain light is so disgusting, even aside from the Oedipus complex thing. It's misogynistic and fucking revolting. Even in death the women of HOTD can't escape.

People asking incredulously why Aegon II has fans are forgetting something: his actor’s good looking. Fans are ready to forgive anything (and I do mean anything) for a hot guy.

Oh definitely, certain people will excuse anything as long as the person is pretty enough.
However, I do also think that the internet brainrot probably has something to do with it. I mean the prevalence of the whole stalker/rape fantasy on the internet (specifically booktok) seems to be a lot more severe than it was when GOT premiered. Obviously people with kinks that are darker have always been around, but this isn't just indulging a kink. More than ever, there are people obsessed with romanticizing and excusing absolutely monstrous behavior because the guy is hot.
So yeah, Aegon definitely has pretty privilege, but I also think there's more issues than just that here.

I never envisaged they could give Rhaena the whole “Nettles story”, not just Sheepstealer.
I was talking to a friend the other day about Daemon’s arc this season, I believe his arc will not help him realize how he has neglected his daughters (despite loving them) and he will try to be a better father and protect Rhaena from Rhaenyra’s wrath/paranoia… which is why I believe the fallout between Daemon and Rhaenyra will happen because she’ll try to harm one of his daughters. His willingness to die will make so much sense if this happens.
This is too incredible to be true. Rhaenyra go after the stepdaughter she took in as her own daughter for 10 plus years? Yeah, no. With Nettles--a literal unknown before the Dance and who was a Dragonseed like the Betraying Ulf/Hugh--it made so much more sense for Rhaenyra and her council to blame or suspect her, even with her loyalty. Because we also know that other possible dragonriding families with their loyalties more likely to turn has been a source of anxiety for Targs since at least Jaehaerys I (Elissa Farman stealing the eggs)!
This storyline is also further proof of HotD unnecessaarily isolating Rhaenyra from every female supporter and family she does stronger bonds with canonically [pessimisticpigeonsworld's post]. And how this show has its misogynoir BAKED-BAKED in since Laena undermined for Daemyra and Rhaenicent.
