Are fedoras really that bad?

YES YES THEY ARE
Iāve seen a lot of good posts detailing why you should read The Gentlemanās Guide to Vice and Virtue but I feel some things are being left out, so:
-Important messages about learning to love and value yourself -it shows how being privilaged in some ways and at a disadvantage in other ways (regarding identities and circumstances of their lives) affect and interact with each other but donāt negate each other -Adresses white privilege and race issues in the time period -the main character is flawed. Like, man he says some stuff in the beginning that makes me go ā????ā But thatās the point. Heās not a great person, but his character development is SO GOOD. None of his actions are excused, but he gets to learn and grow and become better and itās so cool to watch -honestly all the characters are so good and well developed -and people have already pointed out how funny the book is but, in particular for me, Monty getting lowkey turned on by Percy accidentally playing footsie with him is hysterical
Percy: is there a word that's a mix between angry and sad? Felicity: malcontented, disgruntled, miserable, desolated... Monty: smad.

i love the idea of the three of them being a cute little family uvu

Plenty of you lovely book nerds already spotted it but now I can share my Six of Crows gang illustration for the @illumicrate Grisha Box! āØĀ
For those asking: itās currently exclusive to Illumicrate but might be available in my shop in a few months, if I can sort it out :)
honestly keith is in a super bad mental place right now yet i havenāt really seen that many people⦠care?
now i hate to say this, but if it was lance going through all of what keithās going through right now? you know the fandom would be going CRAZY.
ā¦but itās not. itās keith.
his teammates all keep dying around him left and right, he keeps nearly escaping death (like when he was stuck in space in e1), and heās being given a bad mindset just being with the blade altogether. but thatās not even all of it.
we all know keith pushes people away before they reject him, but how do you think he felt when the team, the only family and friends he has,Ā did reject him?

as someone super similar to keith, i can tell you that does not feel good at all.
and i know they ended it all with a hug saying theyāll always be there for him, but donāt tell me it didnāt hurt keith when not a single one of them actually said they wanted him to stay.

especially when shiro knows the blade of marmora way. victory/knowledge or death. and he knows how keith is.
(which shows this shiro⦠isnāt s2 shiro. that shiro wouldāve stopped keith from staying with the blade, like how he tried stopping him from doing the trials.)
now there are really only two reasons keith stays with the blade in the first place.
now that shiro can pilot black again, keith doesnāt feel as if he has a place on the team (similarly to lance). now we do know part of the reason heās been with the blade so much is because he didnāt like being the leader. he didnāt want that position. he was forced into it, then always criticized for being bad at it. now he did get somewhat better near the end with the help of lance, but i donāt think he realized it. (lance is the only one on the team who ever acknowledged him as leader besides shiro, after all.)

keith tried staying off the team since s3e6, after lance opened up to him. he tried to give black to shiro (which we all know didnāt work) and he let lance have red. so he truly feels he doesnāt belong on the team anymore. the team not stopping him from just straight up leaving cemented that.
the other reason keith stays with the blade is to get a sense of identity. heās had his knife all his life, itās his only real connection to who he is. but heās learning the blade way, the galra way, and itās not good for him. they keep telling himĀ āthe mission is more important than the individualā, which shows why so many bom members weāve seen (thace, ulaz, etc) have sacrificed themself for the greater good.
keith tried sacrificing himself not only for the mission, but because he believed the team would benefit more having him dead than alive. he didnāt say goodbye to anyone before he did it, not even matt, who he was already talking to. he doesnāt think he matters. heās just another casualty that (wouldāve) died for the cause.
in conclusion keithās mental state right now is bad. heās not selfish for leaving the team. he did it because he doesnāt think they need him anymore. he doesnāt think he matters.
and itās the blade thatās really cementing this in his mind.
AU to distract myself again
Lotor joins the Paladins and explains his past in doing so, and Shiro relates since he, too, was a gladiator and tells Lotor that, if he ever needs anythingĀ to come to his room and talk.Ā After just the first night Lotor begins having nightmares of his past actions, traumatic moments, and awful fights in the arena. He shakes and he sweats and he doesnāt know what to do. He remembers Shiroās words, walks to his room and knocks on the door. Instantly he breaks down crying.
Shiro hugs Lotor in his arms and brushes back his hair. He attempts to reassure the Galra prince, tell him itās going to be ok. But Lotor canāt sleep and Shiro, being such a big person has a large bed enough for 2. He gives half of it to Lotor for the night, figuring sleeping alone isnāt good for either of them after something like this.
Lotor watches Shiro go back to sleep. He realizes he wants the Paladin to wake up again, he just wants to hear his comforting voice. He reaches a hand out to his back but draws it away and makes himself think heās being irrational.
Every time after this, when Lotor has a nightmare, he goes into Shiroās room and the two share the bed. Sometimes the two say nothing, and they just nod and share the bed after Lotor enters the room. They do this numerous times, and Lotor every time attempts to touch Shiroās back or arm or hairāsomething to let him know Shiro is real and he is there and he is truly that close.
Several months pass. Lotorās nightmares slow, and heās able to handle them on his own so itās been ages since he slept near Shiro. But one night he remains awake and cannot fall asleep in his own bed. He rushes down the hall to Shiro who asks if itās a nightmare, but Lotor just walks to his side of the bed, lies down, and rolls onto the side facing Shiroās back and wraps an arm around him.
Shiro smiles. He presses his hand to Lotorās and tells him,Ā āI was wondering how long itād be.ā

So not only is Lotor physically distancing himself from the rest of his team, but heās crossing his arms across his chest so tight, heās making an even bigger barrier between himself and them. He looks like heās deep in thought and I feel like here heās honestly just totally shut down for one of the first times in the series that weāve seen so far. He doesnāt even have a weapon on him to fight back against Acxa.
Lotorās closing himself off to everyone, including us, the audience. We havenāt been let in to his mind or his heart. And I really, really hope that the paladins can give us that insight and at least we get a little peek.
This isnāt asking for a redemption arc. Lotor doesnāt need redeeming. He needs a story, and itās clear heās reluctant to tell not only his generals, but us, too.
Anyway I just thought this imagery and body language was pretty interesting. Thereās definitely so much more to this than we know right now.
Hereās to hoping we get some deeper insight into his plans, and what exactly heās hoping for with all the quintessence he wants to gather, and the Sincline ships.

I will never betray Lotor
Oh man, where to start.
My entire feed is filled withĀ āJustice for NartiāĀ āDown with Lotorā, and all i can think about is how nobodyās looking at the situation from Lotorās point of view. Weāre so quick to jump down his throat for killing Narti, but letās actually analyze the situation.
During this scene, Lotorās ship is being attacked by countless fleets, there are literally seconds to make decisions, very important ones. Where to go, whose doing what etc. Narti is the only one who went inside with Lotor, so when Lotor caught on that she was being used for tracking, he killed her.Ā
Yes, killing Narti fucking sucked, and i think everyone just thinks that Lotor did that because heās a bad guy, but heās not.Ā
Letās say that he wanted to save her, how? With literally a few seconds to decide, there was no room for error. Lotor did not know the extent of NartiāsĀ ācontrolled mind/being a traitorā or whatever was going on with her, so he just assumed she was a spy and promptly killed her. I donāt think this was bad thinking on his part, and i donāt think he was being heartless. His motherās powers go way beyond what we know, as well as Lotorās powers. Lotor could have easily sensed that she was under control or a traitor, maybe under a control that she could not be freed from easily, if she could be freed from it at all.Ā
I would also like to point out that i personally do not think that Narti was controlled. I believe that the cat was the real mastermind behind all of it, using Narti as a decoy for Lotor so that when Lotor did catch on, he would blame Narti, and kill an innocent comrade, all without his knowing, but Iāll assume that Lotor killed Narti under the presumption that either he thought she was being controlled, or that she was a traitor, since i doubt that Lotor is unaware that that is his motherās cat. Thus, for him to think that Narti was probably working for Haggar is not a stretch.
āWell, he could have done something else?ā
What? What could he have done? Take her with them? So that they can continue to be followed and their operations further compromised, and for what because the fandom likes her (thereās literally no other reason)? Taking her along would have risked putting the other generalsā lives in danger. TAKING NARTI ALONG WOULD HAVE PUT THE OTHER GENERALSā LIVES IN DANGER.
You want to talk about Lotor protecting his group, he was. Leaving her behind alive would subject her to being tortured until everything was spilled about the other generals and Lotor himself. Or, she would have burned up in the ship, been shot, or something else that would have been agonizing to her had they just left her. There was no time to consult with the others about whatās morally right or wrong because that would have wasted time none of them have and could have potentially KILLED THEM ALL. Lotor may seem cold to just off her in one blow, but he may have been saving her from a dreadful experience of torture and control. Youāve all seen Haggarās power, you all know how powerful she is, what makes you think that Lotor could have saved her? That Lotor is to blame? He made a decision for the team that he knew the team could not make.
The part where this gets less complicated is where the other girls come in. Why did they not stand by Lotor? Well, aside from seeing Narti be killed, it was a lack of communication on Lotorās part. Lotor could have easily told them that she was being controlled, or that she was a traitor, but he did not. So any attack from them was solely because of lack of communication. Even if they were super upset and mad at Lotor for killing Narti, it would have made a huge difference in their actions had he simply told them what was up. Same for them, since none of them question his actions and just assume that heās a crazy tyrant asshole that only cares for himself.
Bottom line, justice for Narti is deserved, but not through the downright hate of Lotor.
If you want to point fingers at anyone, point them at the writers of the damn show for killing a side character.
Lotor has lost everything. His family, his empire, the support from the fandom, and even his allies. Hereās to hoping that Keith will take his side and befriend him, cause i think thatās really all that Lotor needs.
