Watermarking and Protecting your Artwork

Tips for everyone to help minimize art theft, including AI training, without greatly sacrificing your images' impact

Objectives of Watermarking

When you place a watermark on your art, it has multiple objectives - they're there to prevent it from being reposted and accredited to someone else, to make it recognizeable as yours with text or symbols, and to prevent major parts of the image from being copied and reused. Here are some tips for making a good watermark, which you can save as a .png to reuse.

Use fonts with serifs or odd shapes and stylings if using text.

Add noise, with color, to your watermark.

Distort the watermark (I like ripple effect to break up the shapes subtly.)

Avoid text and stamps - use handdrawn shapes and letters if possible.

Place it between layers on your artwork if possible.

Use a light blend mode (linear or hard is what I use depending on background colors) and turn down the opacity to make it look nice but still do its job.

The watermark should be visually unobtrusive as possible, while covering major points that would be copied, and BE HARD TO TRACE or select by magic wand or smart selectors. This also helps to keep AI from copying your work.

Compression

Almost more important than watermarking is image compression and resizing. You don't want a full quality image online that anyone can snag and print on T-shirts at the same quality you can offer!

NEVER EVER post an image at 300 DPI or higher to share online. This is the quality required by most printers: without that, it's hard for anyone to make merchandise out of your art. Keep previews at 100 DPI or less. It shouldn't ruin the experience for your viewers and offers an incentive to purchase your work - you can sell higher quality images.

Keep your resolution as low as possible. You don't need more than a 2k image for most usages online - banners, icons, etc. So knock that size under 2000 pixels in height or width.

Flatten and save as a jpeg in medium quality. Typically, you don't need to post any higher quality images online, and you don't want it to include layer data.

Average viewers will NOT notice the difference in these changes without it being pointed out, nor will they think artwork is 'bad' because of it. Don't worry too much about "sacrificing quality."

Glaze it!

Lastly, a technology to combat AI has been developed and is constantly improving. Head over to https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/

and use this on your work that you post online for further protection against AI data scraping and training!

Okay, but LEGIT I always assumed there used to be something going on between Munk and Cass, purely based on that one interaction they have in the '98 movie. Now I need to hear all the headcanons..

○°Munkustrap and Cassandra°○

☆DIVORCE☆

♡headcanons♡

◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇

Munk and Cassie got married after they graduated from cat high school ❤

But Cassandra began to have an affair with Alonzo 😱

To get even with her Munk also started having an affair with Alonzo 😳

Alonzo suggested that they should just form a polycule, but Cassandra was angry 💢 that Alonzo was cheating on her with her own husband

They decide to get divorced 💔

Munkustrap gets Bombalurina to be his lawyer in divorce court 🔥

This is a smart 🤓🧠 move because Bombalurina has had seven divorces herself and knows her shit

Unfortunately for them Cassandra hired Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer 🤡🤡

Mungo and Rump keep marrying and divorcing eachother to get on TV 📺 , and are trying to get into Guinnes World Records for Most Divorces 🏆💯

But this is not why they make good divorce lawyers 🚫❌

They keep stealing 🧤💰 eating🍴 Bombalurina's notes and evidence and replacing it with drawings of fish with boobies 🐟🍈🍈

Cassandra gets their house and full custody of their creepy twins 👯‍♀️ (Coricopat 🌜and Tantomile 🌛)

Munkustrap ends up in a sad empty bachelor pad 😥

Cassandra makes amends with Alonzo, but now that the thrill of adultery 😼 isn't there anymore, they kind of just hang out 👫

Munkustrap starts dating Demeter 💙💛 (who herself is divorced) and bonds with his new stepdaughter Sillabub 👨‍👩‍👧

He gets a shirt 👕 that says "I'm not the step-dad, I'm the dad that stepped up" 💪

How To Gain a Cat’s (or Cute Boy’s) Trust in Seven Easy Steps by Ernst Robel

Anon said:  Ernst is a sucker for animals and has owned a cat for years. Hanschen moves to their school, Ernst draws parallels, and breaks down Hanschen’s walls using cat techniques.

This is SO FUCKING LONG and I’m sorry but I loved writing it so I hope you like it. you can also pinpoint the exact spot (Step 6) were i become so tired i can’t write. Feat: introvert hanschen, tiny boy ernst, butch ilse, emo moritz, and  angry engaged couple wendla and melchior

Words: 4881

Step One: Set Nurturing and Comfortable Environment

The night had started out fine enough, with a small crowd of just enough people to comfortably fill up Melchior’s living room. Ernst noticed, as he sipped his drink, that Hanschen had sat himself in the center of the room. He was perched on the ottoman with a beer in his hands. He wasn’t saying much. Instead he was laughing at all of Otto’s jokes and adding in just enough quick, witty comments to get everyone’s attention for a few seconds at a time.

As Ernst watched more, he observed how Hanschen’s blue eyes would lace around the room. He would sweep those bright, intense eyes around the room and examine each face with precision and attention. Every once and awhile, his eyes would lock on someone. But never for long. Even as he sat lackadaisically in the dimly lit living room, he was fully alert.

But time ticked on and more people began to trickle in. By the time the sun had gone down, they had managed to fit about 30  people in the already small house. And Hanschen’s ease began to melt away. He had moved to the corner of the room, right next to the front door, and sat on the arm of the couch that Ernst was sitting on.

His knee was tucked up to his chest with his chin resting on the denim covered joint. His back became hunched and his muscles were tense and flexed. It was as if he went from alert to attack. As if he was making himself as small as possible so that he just folded into the background. This was unlike how Hanschen usually was, begging for attention. Now. he begged to be left alone.

To anyone’s untrained eye, he was just another wallflower. But Ernst wasn’t just anyone.

i've been holding this in for three years and i don't know how.

many of you know i'm very open about sharing the spring awakening bootlegs that i have. but there is one i have never shared or even made mention of - the proshot.

we all knew it existed and i'm sorry for keeping it from everyone for so long. it is the 17 year anniversary of this capture which surprisingly means that it is now under fair use so sharing it won't get me into legal trouble.

this is a capture from the very beginning of the show's off-broadway run, so there are some changes from the finished version of the show we saw on broadway. however, it still contains the full original off broadway cast in all their glory. i'm so happy i'm finally able to share this with everyone.

enjoy :)
