I don't think Generation X and baby boomers understand how terrifying it is for Generation Z to hear "It looks like our planet is doomed."

I feel like it's very easy for a person who has already made their way through life, gotten a job and perhaps made a family to say "yep we're all gonna die." The problem is that I, a 16-year-old, have not gotten to where I want to be in life yet. I'm still in school and when I hear older people say things like that, I can't help but think, "what's the point then?"

As teenagers we (most of us) feel pressured to succeed in school and achieve good grades and that pressure is often put on us because of our parents/authority figures. So, if we're all gonna die, what's the point in being good at school? Why do our parents care so much about them if they've accepted the fact that we're at a point of no return when it comes to global warming and climate change?

I. Want. A. Future.

All of this nihilism coming from quite literally everyone terrifies me and it's making people believe that there's no reason to take action in protecting our planet when there has in fact been some good climate news.

I'm tired of crying because of how everyone has made me believe that life is coming to an end and that there's nothing I can do about it. I'm tired of not being taken seriously when explaining to people that we still have time. And most of all, I'm tired of all this nihilistic bullshit coming from the mouths of our own guardians.

If you have really bad climate anxiety I would recommend following thegarbagequeen on tiktok. She gives good climate news every week while reminding us that we are still in a crisis but that doesn't mean that we can't get out of it.
