It was a cute episode with Sheng Wang very happily using his puppy eyes and pout to get whatever he wants from Jiang Tian.

Another episode of Jiang Tian being totally in love with Sheng Wang and caving for all his needs.

Another episode of Sheng Wang being an absolute babey (especially adore the portion where Jiang Tian is carrying him and says aren't you tired being so tense and Sheng Wang becomes a koala all over again).

I love that they've become more open with each other in the presence of friends. I hope it all goes okay with them as things become more evident.

Another episode of Qi Jahao and the teachers chaos not making any sense. Also, Qi Jahao didn't make a reappearance again so I'm confused where and what is happening.

Ji Huanyu(? I think that's the dad.) he is back and he is clearly plottling something. I need to know what.

The streaking was hilarious and cuteee. Love that Sheng Wang couldn't take his eyes off of Jiang Tian. Also love how Jiang Tian was the one who said they'll uphold the best and goes with it. Makes me wonder 🤔

I'm excited for tomorrow. Considering how soft today's episode was even with the teachers' thing going down, I have a feeling tomorrow is gonna be more serious.

The moment right before Wang is going to jump for the long jump (I think the second time) where he looks at his bracelet is such a beautiful moment of trust and strength and I love it. He finds his strength in Jiang Tian. In knowing that Jiang Tian is participating for him. That Jiang Tian is making their relationship (something other people don't understand, something that is better than they (Tian and Wang) could even imagine) evident. That Jiang Tian feels secure enough to not reject him or feel rejected by him even when the threat of Ji Huanyu is in the same premises. I find it so beautiful that between all the cheers that finally go down all he needs is the reassurance from Jiang Tian.

Something I really find refreshing with this story is the fact that at every moment that Jiang Tian as a more reserved character could probably have shut down, he chose the other option of being honest, of opening up to Sheng Wang.

Because he wants to open up. He wants to have someone, and wants to be that someone to Sheng Wang. He knows the world could be against them and so far, has chosen to stand by Sheng Wang and show him that 'hey. No matter what, I choose you.'

It somehow takes me back to Sheng Wang's conversation with his father. What he said about both of their relationship being more than they could ever understand and better than he himself could fathom. Jiang Tian's action is what makes Sheng Wang want to show up for him (them) as well. It is what made the Jiang Tian who had never cared about participating in things with his classmates, about necessarily reciprocating his friendship with Gao Tianyang, about having fun beyond school results, and feeling at home start to do all of them. We see that first with ep 8 where he actively works towards getting that home and becoming friendlier with Gao Tianyang and we see that break down further in ep 9.

Usually such characters would melt for the person they love but nobody else and although it has its own charm there is no improvement in the character so to speak. Here we see that they make each other better and that is so beautiful and important.

Ok so when I first watched this week's episodes of The On1y One, I wasn't very sure of how I liked them and what I felt about them. I definitely could make sense of ep 9 better than I could of ep 10.

That being said, I think episode. 10 was all to show the ellipsis part of their relationship. It was all to show that there were things they were not speaking. That they were terrified of speaking out into existence because what if they lost their home again. The physical distance, even though it was not their doing, just increased the unspoken and unsaid things. Jiang Tian lying about working on the study syllabus for Sheng Wang when everyone knew it is for Sheng Wang was a part of all of that. Sheng Wang going all pensive at the thought of the efforts Jiang Tian is putting towards his studies with the teacher's recordings is another. It all feels very much like a build up to a realisation that Wang gets at the West(?) (I'm very bad at remembering directions, I'm sorry) terrace after seeing Shi Yu and the girl. He realises but doesn't by acknowledge, because it continues to change the nature of their relationship.

I was fooled once, but I'm pretty sure next week will start with the red scene, that being said, I think that would be the moment of Sheng Wang finally realising and accepting all that is unsaid in their relationship and (hopefully) get on the same page. So far Sheng Wang had been ready with adapting but would this be difficult to accept is the question.

I have a lot more to process in this episode for which I'll have to watch it again with a sane mind. so hopefully I'll get to watch it today as I am home today while being sick so hopefully I can chill and watch and then maybe write.

i know we're all having fun with tian being smitten for wang because all that boy needs to do is pout and call him ge and tian will do anything for him. but it goes both ways, because when tian wanted to change their beds so that wang could get into bed easily, wang's protests died as soon as tian got out his no nonsense voice and told wang very clearly: this is no negociation, you're doing what you're told. i love that so much 🥺

Ok so now that I have stewed over the new episodes and already put down some thoughts for episode 9, here is my thoughts for episode 10.

Like I mentioned earlier, this episode was very difficult for me to make sense. Cause, after being shown that they are so linked to each other, that they find home in each other, from us being observers in 'their' orbit, we are for the first time shown Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian in different places (not out of their own volition but more circumstancial). As I am writing this, I also feel that they are put in different physical spaces, as a metaphor of where they are in terms of their relationship. Jiang Tian already knows about how and what he feels for Sheng Wang, everything he is doing is out of the feeling of home that Sheng Wang gives him, specifically in a romantic sense. Sheng Wang on the other hand, doesn't entirely make sense of his feelings. All he knows that he misses Jiang Tian, they are both at home with each other (currently specifically in the dorm room), and that he wants to go back to the place that is his home.

It showed at the same time how much they cared for each other, with Sheng Wang's talk about Jiang Tian to Jiang Ou, and with Jiang Tian preparing study material and helping Sheng Wang walking around.

We finally get this week for Sheng Wang to realise himself that his feeling for Jiang Tian are something more than he was prepared for. Although he seems a little taken aback in the beginning as he is entering their room while holding Jiang Tian's hand, he adapts quickly from there, acting as he usually does, although I feel it is because he doesn't know where Jiang Tian lies. Which is why he is able to ask Jiang Tian to sleep in the same bed without hesitation when he is scared. I think next week, the red moment is going to make him realise that Jiang Tian likes him too and that is going to affect him and maybe make it a little more challenging to adapt for the first time?

I am not very happy that the series is going to end soon. It's only 2 episodes remaining. I hope that season 2 does get through because I am thoroughly invested in these boys and their story, that being said, I do feel also that as long as they end the series without a major cliff hanger and with a proper answer for everything, I will be pretty okay with how it goes.

In terms of the open loops about the teachers, I think for the first time it feels like they are actually not together and so there are more questions there as well, including the Jenny Yang bit. I am not very invested in them, because i feel like they are taking away precious time from Jiang tian and Sheng Wang's story and might end without a resolution any way. That being said, I do want to know that they get a happy ending too and can be the mentors for the school. I loved the bit about doing physics because his father didn't care for it.

I want to see more of the friends all together. Them hanging out together has been one of the est parts and I just want to see their shenanigans again.

Qi Jahao continues to be MIA and that makes me worry about the Jiang Tian x Sheng Wang resolution next week. I have a feeling the thief, Qi Jahao and Jiang Tian x Sheng Wang will all culminate together and I'm worried it's not going to be enough time.

Anyway, that's some thoughts for now. Let's see where it goes next week and how we feel about it all.

For now, the thing that gives me solace is I have successfully purchased the translated book, so even if the story has been changed I'm happy to have these boys and their story with me in a longer and lasting format.

To those who would like to purchase and get access to the book, I used the steps in this post to get it. It was quite seamless other than the whole being in another language but which could be solved with a simple Google translate.

Especially coming from someone who has fucked up many many things because my brain cannot function to go through a full process to go through and finish something online, it is actually very very easy. Keep faith and happy reading!

Sidenote: There's no such thing as free lunch when it comes to Chinese danmeis - particulary those that are fortunate to be adapted to live-action. You need to pay for them. Most danmeis have 4 to 6 volumes with 10 or more chapters each. 😄

A. If you can read Traditional Chinese (Han) with ease, congratulations! You just need to download and install the JJWXC app. The app itself is not available on Google Play (not sure about the other app stores) and must be downloaded directly from the website. Just follow the instructions and you're all set.

B. If you are an international reader (or have a very shaky foundational understanding of the Chinese alphabet like me 😅) and would want an English translation, it will be slightly complicated. Better use your desktop for the following procedure:

1. Read and use this site as a guide: https://bookswithqianya.com/support-authors/#google_vignette

2. Whatever you do, please make sure your browser's auto-translate is ON. Also during registration, keep in mind that the website DOES NOT accept the usual English alphabet (They do accept arabic numerals though).

To solve this, you can open another browser to auto-translate whatever it is you are typing into Han characters, copy then paste.

3. Once registered, the JJWXC website uses points to purchase novel so you need to top up your account. The only international payment method they accept to buy points is PayPal. The cheapest you can buy is 10,000 points for USD 15. This is more than enough as the novel is only worth around 2,000 points. Again, follow the guide in procedure 1 when you buy the novel.

4. Once you bought the novel, take a screenshot of your invoice (turn off your auto-translate atp since the translator only accepts proof of purchase in Chinese), fill up this form with the attached screenshot then submit. You might need to wait a couple of hours before the translator can send you a link to the translation in google drive (or whichever cloud storage device you use).

The translator also has certain stipulations (like not sharing the link to anyone who did not buy the novel, downloading and converting the files to epub or pdf, etc), so please be respectful.

Note: THE TRANSLATION ITSELF IS FREE. The only "payment" the translator requires is that you support the original author by buying a copy of the novel. 😄

Edit: I almost forgot — if you don't like digital copies AND you can read Chinese, you can purchase the physical novel (i think AliExpress and Taobao sells them). The novel has five volumes and 1 extra. Not sure about the price though 😊

In another 48-50 hours The On1y One is going to come to an end (well hopefully not and hopefully there is going to be another season.)

All I want for the next two episodes is Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian. Happy and in love. I want them to finally find answers together. I want them to find answers together. I want both of them to be UTTERLY whipped for each other. I want Sheng Wang to bring out the princess pout. I want Jiang Tian to bring out the bigger guns with Guai. I want and need them to finally have a proper kiss.

I want to see them with their friends. Their walls, brought down and safe and secure. I want to see Gao Tianyang and Shi Yu teasing them. I want to see them and feel contented. Even if they can't tell their friends and Old Man Ding, I want them to see that they make each other happy. I'd like the rest of the dramas to get resolved, there are tonnes of those, but if that happens without their resolution, I don't care about anything else. This is their story. It better hold on to that.

To clarify, I will always love The On1y One. But I hope it keeps the heart of it intact.

The way I was simultaneously, too prepared but not at all prepared for what all the episode gave me. It was at the same time too much and not enough and I'm absolutely loosing my mind. I cannot wait for tomorrow.

Phases

In the heart of my hearts, I don't know if that was the implication or if I'm reading too much into it, but the fact that Jiang Tian woke up as soon as Sheng Wang went to his bunk, it feels like he was awake through it all. Maybe not waiting for the kiss, but at the very least anticipating the wait. I don't know if that was the reality but it makes me lose my mind.

A young heart's flutter is like a midsummer night's wasteland, endless and impervious to fire. As the wind blows, the wild grass merges with the sky.

The On1y One Episode 11

Playful Jiang Tian exists only for room 501 and that means soooo much to me. Especially because of how much he is always holding on to his feelings and is never ever able to just feel and be a teen. Also importantly, Sheng Wang being absolutely smitten to see playful Jiang Tian is what motivates and pushes him to be that gleeful. The joy that they share is soso beautiful and soso palpable and most importantly it allows them to stay without withdrawing into their loneliness.

I love so much about it. I wanted an episode with the friends and roommates being a big part and that's what I got.

THE ON1Y ONE (2024). EPISODE ELEVEN.

The new episode was something.... The joy and yearning and hurt and love, everything hit right where it was supposed to. I think about the episode and one moment I am so so happy about Jiang Tian loosening up, about Sheng Wang becoming more and more aware of himself, of them together acting the tests together and just the overall joy they have around each other, because of each other.

The next moment I'm wrecked because of Jiang Tian's moment. Because of the hurt and torment he is going through. Of the shame and guilt he feels because of it all. Because of the helplessness it brings that he is constantly trying to win against when it comes to Sheng Wang.

Right after that, I'm terrified. Of what is to come for them. Is Sheng Wang going to be sent away to the new class. Are people going to realise and question them. Are they going to lose each other even before they could be each other's.

I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. But whatever it is, I trust that it will be meaningful. I hope there is a new season irrespective, but even if there isn't, I'm going to love the show for all that it has been.

I don't say this lightly but The On1y One has wrecked me and changed my brain chemistry in all the ways possible. I'm going to keep coming back to it.

I don't remember if I had reblogged it or not, I don't even remember exactly what the post was saying but I saw a post where someone was talking about how even if The On1y One doesn't end with a resolution and ends while being angsty they would still be happy because they appreciate the story as a whole. And that is exactly where I am. It is a beautiful story. It was done very well in my opinion. The directing, acting, writing. Everything. Even if they didn't resolve everything they explored everything and made it meaningful and that is important to me. It means so much to me that I was able to experience it the way I did.

I think for me the best part about watching is two parts

. The first within the series itself, is always always the time that Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang spent together. Every episode I was looking forward to their moment together. So the best will always be the day they skipped school and decided they would move into the dorms. There was something so beautiful about it and it meant the world to me.

The second is more the experience itself, of watching something as it goes and recording it on Tumblr and interacting with others based on it. It's something I've started more recently and this was an amazing series for it. It allowed me to interact with so many new people. Put my thoughts out even with hesitation. I loved it.

In terms of the second season, I really really want one. I hope it is a reality and the fruits of it, we can one day enjoy. I would literally sell my soul if it could be a reality. That being said, I don't really expect one. So looking at it as something without a "resolution", I think I'll still be okay with it. I'll have to find fanfiction and read the book and everything to find something to fill the gaps, but I'm ok for all rest of the things. The yearning and heartbreak, as much as I wish we didn't have to go through, I am not opposed to it and am not upset about it. I usually lean towards the yearning angst and this was right up my alley. Are there things I would've changed? Obviously. There always are I think, but there are not so many that I would not recognise the story altogether and that's what makes it significant for me I think.

Oh I loved this last episode. It's the epitome of gay adolescents, it's tension packed with teenage drama.

Have you ever worked with 16/17 years old? Because it is the worst thing ever that happened in your life that your crush moved to another class, it's so hard to articulate yourself because you're unsure and how the hell would you communicate anyway, who does that? Longing glances and mood swings are far better to cope.

I love this show, I love these characters. One of my favourite series from now on for sure.

Jiang Tian didn't even need to be clued in about anything. He knew exactly where the break down came from and saw the gap it created. The punch (felt like a gut punch to me) came from a place of helplessness, guilt, shame and most importantly abandonment issues and hit us just as hard.

Sheng Wang's impulsive decision to purposefully flunk the test in order to get transferred to a different class was painful. However, it was even more painful because Jiang Tian knew the exact reason behind it.

Where Sheng Wang puts on a brave face and lies to his teachers and friends about it, he forgets one fact, i.e., Jiang Tian can read him like a book. He knew something had changed right from that night when Sheng Wang tried to kiss him. He could feel that something was wrong because of all the ways that Sheng Wang tried to avoid him. No wonder Jiang Tian broke down.
