Songs Of The Beautiful World - Tumblr Posts

Some designs and random sketches for the major project that I'm working on.

I forgot how to draw one of my own characters' faces. I am absolutely mortified by that and had to draw a reference to make sure it never happens again.

Sekka is a really good program and I really enjoy using it. Expect its abuse in the days to come, as those roundels are the perfect size and shape to be projected in my magic lanterns.

It occurs to me that I should post some of the drawings and paintings I did within the past six months, since this is an art blog and all.

INKTOBER INKTOBER. I am really going to do it this time. This is another thing from my Beautiful World project. I am going to make a post on it very soon, because I am tired of being secretive.

4/31 The Red King from my Beautiful World project.

Catching up on Inktober with 7, 8, and 9/31.
7 is the Black Beast from my Beautiful World project. For additional information, please watch transmission./Άλφα: http://youtu.be/lWgcDG5w8rk I recommend headphones.
8 is the Desert Witch from the same project. Here are some rumors concerning her: “There is a witch in the desert who sees all through blackened eyes. Through smoke and hands and furies of sand she seeks and finds.”
9 is the generic gender neutral punk hacker that I demand from every cyberpunk thing ever.

So WHAT IS THIS PROJECT, BECCA. You know, that one you keep talking about and saying that you'll post a thing about soon.
This happens to be that post. How lucky.
SO WHAT IS THIS THING?
The project is called Songs of the Beautiful World, and it's a metaphysical parallel world concept created to explore the ideas of mythology, culture, and how ideas get transmitted from person to person, mutating along the way. It's also an exploration into the cultural behavior of fandoms from an anthropological perspective. That's the meta side of the metafiction.
THAT'S NICE BUT I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT.
The immersive side is that it's a world with characters and stories and ideas that I am exploring ways of exploring. There are cities, and heroes, and gods and demons. There are shadows of things that exist in the real world and there are things which only exist in that world. There are stories. Lots of stories. The world lives and breathes through stories. The main idea at the very core of the project is that this fictional world is defined almost entirely through subjective experience. It exist differently for every person because every person experiences it differently.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON THIS HOT MESS?
About five years now. Yeah. That's a long time, right? I figure that at some point, I need to start being more open about it and sharing it, lest I become Henry Darger and his Vivian Girls stories. That would be defeating the point of it, really. I wanted to create a culture and try to make it in a way that was similar to how real culture arises. That means that it can't arise in a vacuum and it can't be something that I only know about.
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
I am working on the best ways to let the stories out into the wide world. There might be comics. There'll definitely be some oral storytelling and performance art pieces. There've already been some videos and art installations, although I need to up my game as far as video production goes. The biggest thing, though, is that the stories themselves may only be traces or glimpses, like whispers of something bigger. Rumors that plant themselves in your brain and make you wonder about this other place. I love creepy stories specifically, as they have an incredible ability to implant themselves in your head. In fact, I like them so much that I wrote my master's thesis about that very thing.
MASTER'S THESIS? ISN'T THIS JUST AN UPPITY INTERNET THING?
Yes and no. There's a lot of psychology and experiential philosophy and aesthetics involved.
WOW I NEVER KNEW YOU WERE SUCH AN ART SCHOOL WANKER.
Yes, I'm so glad that you noticed.
I am more than willing to field questions about this project. I realize that this overview is kind of vague, but there's a lot of information for me cover when it comes to the details. The ask box is eternally open. Please don't be under the impression that this is all dry and academic. I want it to be fun.
ALSO: it has its own tumblr and Wikia page, both of which are shamefully not very full of information at the moment, but I'm working on that. Go to: songs-of-the-beautiful-world.tumblr.com

Have some drawings that I do not remember drawing of some Beautiful World characters. These characters are the Red Thief and the Blind Seer.

My friend iopichio wanted a sketchdump of some of my project sketches, so here it is. 1. Aestus Firebringer and the Red Thief. A faint Weirdo. 2. The Red Thief. 3 and 4. The Moon Snake and the Prince of the Sun. 5. Aestus Firebringer. 6. A Stellinian Lamplighter.

Part 2 of my sketchdump for iopichio. 1. Eyeball imp. 2. Aesthetic collage experiments. 3. The Wheel of the Sky, moon. 4. Cyclops monster. 5. Various monster sketches. 6. My attempts to work on a design for Leonid King. I have yet to find what I am looking for.

Just doing some more character sketches for my thing what I do.
First one is Kit Renard, police detective. The second is Leonid King, borked-up hipster and killer what she's throwing in the clink.

Giant print masterpost, because I just realized that I never put up the finished product, and the show just recently came down. The final title was "The man who ate fire and breathed smoke."

The problem with never posting pictures from your sketchbook is that it makes talking about it with online friends difficult.

Hello internet, let’s play an annual game I like to call “what do the characters in your story project look like, can you even remember”

6: sword. This is a character I don’t draw often enough. Dip pen and india ink, again.

15: “mysterious.” Another character I should draw more frequently.

21: “furious.” Another neglected character. Our Lady of the Sacred Arson.
