Hey OP!
I'm not active much on this tumblr but am around the tumblr space but if you wanted help creating a punk library or zine or even a google doc of resources please let me know!
Something about the way bibliopunk/punk academia is treated on here Bugs Me and I think it can be best summed up as this:
You can't just throw the "punk" descriptor onto whatever you like and call it an aesthetic
Punk is not an aesthetic
Punk is a mindset, it's a philosophy-- it's a rebellion against societal systems
When I say bibliopunk, I don't mean sweater vests and old library photos and quotes from classics.
Bibliopunk, to me, a punk librarian, is about freedom of information. It's about making sure everyone and anyone can have the resources they need to learn, whatever that means for them. It's no late fees and fighting against censorship. It's defunding the police and funding community resource centers that specialize in making sure there's a place where people can go to ask for help, to read books on any subject they can think of, to connect with events and organizations that exist to help THEM. It's about making zines and learning how to bookbind, because fuck the idea that traditional publishing and Amazon are the only people that can make something a book.
Punk academia, which is used colloquially here, is related to this-- it's saying fuck the academic systems that keep out the poor, the people of color, and the disabled. Fuck your Ivy Leagues, education is whatever the hell you make it. College should be free, classes should be accessible WITHOUT being forced to give up all of your personal financial and health information, curriculums need to include as many varying perspectives as they can because fuck the idea that a cishet abled white man is the authority on any given topic.
Bibliopunk, punk academia, and any other Tumblr "aesthetic" with the punk descriptor is not just a moodboard of photos you stole from Pinterest.
Because what's more punk than a public library?

Little life update!
So long time no see!
University has been insane for me, especially last semester where i had a lot of mental health issues arise (causing my GPA to tank ahh).
Quit my silly McCafe job a while back and am now working in a tea shop (with barista-ing on the side)
Now though - I'm back on track and volunteering at my local community radio station which has made my life as a journalist so much easier haha.
I've been missing you guys and i hope everyone is going well. You are always welcome to reach out to me if you ever want to chat!
Best of luck to everyone doing exams like I am <3

Hello lovelies!
University is complete but the work doesn't stop! I've been brushing up on some books i got from a beloved book shelter near me that sadly closed. Managing the One-Person Library was one of those and has given me a good glimpse into the categorisation, organisation and delegation of tasks within a library!
Drinking a weird blend of ceylon and darjeeling tea that i nicked from work so that's why it looks like there's a void in my cup lol.
How are you guys? I hope that regardless of where you are that you are hydrated, warm and stealing at least one thing from your workplace :)

Last week! ⭐
Brunch + thrifting with a uni friend and helping a friend out on radio! University is back for me next week so trying to enjoy as much sun as i can before i go back into study hibernation. Hope you are all well and welcome all the new people from the follow train <3
Thinking about (inspired by @oneanxiousstudybuddy):
Brie cheese
Libby (found out my library supports it and HOLY SHITTT the catalogue is huge)
Jeanette McCurdy's biography (17% done)
Vegan white chocolate
I need to organise my personal reading notes haha

First week of Uni!
Starting off strong with 5 hrs of tutorials on Monday, 18.5 hours of work through the week and a last minute invite to the Psychology Ball on Saturday!
(I'm so tired and spend Sunday talking to no one but feeling very good!)
Things I've been thinking of
You are Kenough
It's 27 degrees C (80F) today in the middle of Aussie Winter which is making me miss summer a little (a tiny bit haha)
The ball was full of a lot of femme energy and I love the supportive drunk bathrooms talk <3
I've been listening to I'm glad my mum died by Jeanette McCurdy and it's been so bittersweet listening to read it (If you have any thoughts or feelings about this book pls let me know)
Finally, I hope you are all going well and life hasn't been too rough to you! My DMs are always open if you need a hand or someone to talk to <3

Hello friends! It's week 5 of uni and it's gotten very busy for me <3
Currently writing this post from my boyfriends floor with his soft, stuffed animals keeping me comfy as he works on his respective assignment (as should I be too oops) we've got lofi and rain noises playing in the background with the lights off with little stim noises in between
Things on my mind
Just started doing group therapy and my first one today went really well!
Been hitting the gym excitably cause it's like a big jungle gym lol
Have been meeting so many new and exciting people lately but oh lord my social battery is dry

Thinking about all the nice older ladies at work who come in for their teas and got excited when my manager and I talked about the barbie movie hehe.
Now how are we going my lovelies? My dms are still open and my ask box for any questions, tags or whatever else if you need it. I hope you are all going well and making sure to relax <3

Hello! I hope we are all persisting like the horrors.
Uni is back up for me in two weeks (:0) so ive been enjoying my free time as much as possible with some embroidery and friends!
Pictured is my little rat i embroidered on my hoop and a pic I snapped at a Palestine Rally in my local city.
Things on my mind lately
Keeping up with my long anti-antisemitism and Palestinian poetry TBR
Making my neocities website! she's very baby but exited to get the ball rolling
Been watching JJK with my partner and we're about to start season 2 (terrified)
I'm sure i'll have coherent thoughts about this later but how much i love local communities. just kicking my feet thinking about trading books with friends, lending things and sharing food with others.
Anyway - I hope you are doing well and tell me in the rbs what tea you last drank (i need more variety haha)
In solidarity
Hey nobody has asked me about this ADHD money management tip and it depends on having at least a tiny bit of flex in your budget but I'm about to spend a frustrating amount of money on flour and I can only do it because of this tip:
Hide cash from yourself like a squirrel.
Use whatever receptacle you'd like, envelopes or a zipper bag or an old wallet, create labels for the stuff you're saving for, and tuck money in there occasionally.
My stash lives in an old wallet with strips of paper around it. It's got dividers for "car registration," "bulk food," "vet visit," and a couple other things.
These are things that I know happen every year or multiple times a year that take more cash than I can easily spare from a single paycheck. If I stick twenty bucks a month in an old wallet it will mean that even if I have to pay late fees, I don't have to put my car registration on a credit card and pay interest on my late fees. If I stick ten bucks a month in an old wallet I can buy 25lbs of flour twice a year. If I can stick a bit more or less cash as it's available into the wallet I can make sure that my twice-annual regular vet visits with senior dog bloodwork and vaccinations aren't going to be too much of a hit to that month's grocery budget.
Like, everyone talks about "put money in savings once a month" or "have an account you don't touch for emergencies" and that can totally work if you can swing it, but I know it's REALLY hard for me to keep from pulling from the "emergency" fund for stuff that's a minor emergency/or is regular maintenance that I should have planned for/etc.
It's much harder for me to pull from the actual cash sitting in a physical room in my house because A) I'll probably forget it and B) that means that I have to think through using those funds in a lot more of a direct way than I would when using a debit card and C) I literally can't access it when I'm out of the house (the emergency fund HAS to be on the card to be accessible, the "i need expensive groceries" money doesn't have to be ready to go at all times and if it is available I know myself and it'll get used before it's expensive grocery time).
Like. If you know you have an expense that you have to pay for every year, hide cash specifically for that expense instead of in a general "expenses" fund because if you're not great with money and you've got an iffy memory you might look at your expenses fund and go "okay my computer crashed and there's five hundred bucks in the fund I can replace it and get back to work, cool" and there goes your car registration and a vet visit. At least if you need to physically grab that cash for an emergency you can make note of what you're going to have a deficit for later in the year.
