he hated them. humans.

they were destruction incarnate; simple creatures that had a cancerous touch; that had an unquenchable thirst and hunger for more; more; more. they killed because they could-- because they can. the live without respect for any natural order as if they think the world in it's entirety is theirs and theirs alone; they act as if they think they are gods. he spent his life chasing them out of his home, out of his forest, so that their ruinous hands wouldn't scar the lush abundance of trees; so that the ground wouldn't be littered with bones and blood left behind by their idea of sport. he would have killed them all if he could. none of them were worth consideration or redemption. until him.

alston hated humans. alston hated him.

when he was driven from his home by humans and their hubris-- he is still haunted by the roaring blaze that consumed his forest-- he sought refuge in a city all because he thought he would be there. he should have been mourning the loss of his home, of all the natural life he couldn't save, and yet he found himself consumed by cravings. he missed how he smelled; how he tasted; the sound of his voice when he spoke down to him; the feeling of his calloused fingers digging into his flesh.

alston actually thought he could find refuge with him but all he found, instead, was the reminder that humans couldn't be trusted; and that they only cared for themselves.

alexandria was supposed to be different. a haven for his kind, and other's like him... yet the first thing he noticed upon arriving was there, underneath the breeze, was the subtle scent of him.

he was here. of all the places he could be-- he was right fucking here.

trudging through the garage, picking up various tools and turning them in his hand with feigned interest just so he could drop them onto the floor with an annoying clatter, alston followed the scent of him in the air until he finally found him in a back office. for a moment the bear simply stood in the doorway, looking at carston as if he were a ghost, but any semblance of longing or caring for him quickly washed from his features with a swallow of his breath.

stepping into the man's office, the bear sauntered forward as if he owned the damn place himself and walked behind carston's desk; sitting on the edge of it, crowding the human's personal space. reaching behind himself, he pressed his index finger into the phone's receiver to hang up the phone call he was on before picking up a pen; obnoxiously, and purposefully, holding it close to carston's face as he incessantly clicked the end of it.

"you look like shit." alston grumbled, his eyes lingering on carston and threatening to betray the disdain he was trying to portray as he sat there. clicking. "then again you always did so, hey, at least your consistent."

This Was His Peace. They Had Spent Centuries Together, A Little Over Two; They Had Watched Their Homelands

this was his peace. they had spent centuries together, a little over two; they had watched their homelands destroyed and lost to the carelessness of humanity, they had survived being chased from the waters and hunted for sport-- in truth, they had lived a rather chaotic life together yet it never showed in maeryne's face or how he carried himself. he was at peace, always, at akeselric's side. he was maeryne's peace; he was all the mer needed, and fought for. aksel was all aeryne wanted and he was content to spend the rest of his eternity at the other's side.

relaxing against the other's side on another one of their date nights, limbs almost intertwined as if they were young lovers or a newfound romance, aeryne welcomed the eyes on them. let them stare, he thought. let them see what they are missing out on. he knew some of their stares weren't because he and his love weren't shy and hardly kept their hands to themselves but, rather, were because of the glaring age difference in their appearances. they scandalized themselves by making assumptions of their relationship. they wouldn't be wrong, mind you, if they thought aeryne called him daddy... but they would be wrong if they thought aksel was older. appearances can be misleading.

"mhmm," aeryne hummed at the teasing tickle of his husband's lips against the shell of his ear; from the weight of his hand against his hip, holding him close against aksel's side. "careful, darling, we already have quite the audience. we wouldn't want to traumatize these poor people." he teased with a soft smile and lick of his lips. "it's not even our anniversary."

@unveiledvagabonds; for akeselric to get a little frisky with maeryne.

even after centuries — and they’ve only been together for a little more than two — akeselric had not tired of maeryne; nor would be any time 'soon' or ever, if he was being honest and if he had things his way. he just could not imagine a life without the other. though with the advent of their legs, everything had certainly been a new experience; relative to their lifespan of course.

one would not know they were hundreds of years old with the way they acted. still full of youth and energy, full of love and affection for each other — something that aksel had no trouble displaying, even in public... though you could argue a little too much.

here they were on one of their many date nights, having a quiet but romantic evening in a restaurant. much of their booth was vacant, aksel having crowded into his beloved’s personal space long ago. the merfolk was sure the couple across them were staring but he couldn’t bring himself to really care. not to mention, for anyone watching it would be obvious there was an age gap between them... but not in the way most would think. and now didn't that thought just constantly excite him. aeryne was old than him but aksel looked much older because he'd spent many years scouting and traveling the surface, returning back to the ocean sporadically, all before his husband had joined him topside.

@unveiledvagabonds; For Akeselric To Get A Little Frisky With Maeryne.

his spaghetti laid on the plate mostly finished. his hand curved around the other's back, dipping just below the waistband and resting on the older's hip. and his lips came up to the shell of his husband's ear, “now do you want dessert, my love? i know i’ve got mine right here already.”

The Fates Had A Funny Way Of Making People Cross Paths; Like Children Playing With Their Favorite Toys,

the fates had a funny way of making people cross paths; like children playing with their favorite toys, putting them wherever they liked or in strange situations without any regard to sense or logic. they certainly seemed to enjoy playing with caidence. why else, after all this time, would he find himself in some idyllic, quaint little town-- the same idyllic, quaint little town that rictor had set up shop in; and no, that wasn't a play on words. the man had quite literally set up shop here in alexandria.

at first caidence didn't believe the whispers he heard. their relationship, if you could even call it that, had always been complicated at best. there was a closeness between them that allowed for... heated exchanges and moments stolen away together. they even, on occasion, worked with each other and for each other but there was never a discussion of what that could possibly mean for them. caidence didn't need it to mean anything, but part of him still felt hurt that the man didn't even bother to call him and let him know he had a shop now. what, were the harpies stolen trinket's not good enough for him to sell?

waltzing into the man's shop, caidence half expected it to be someone else with the same name-- he wouldn't put it past the fates, they really did have a sick sense of humor-- but much to his surprise the voice that greeted him as the bell annoyingly announced his presence was all too familiar. it really was him.

following after it, caidence approached the man as he worked but there was no grand reintroduction between the two of them. in fact, as rictor looked up at him it seemed as if the man didn't even recognize him; though that easily could have been the fault of those ridiculous glasses he was wearing. "yes, ahem. good day sir," caidence spoke, purposefully lowering his voice to try and disguise himself as he spoke. "i set up an appointment with you about a week ago. richard swallower? i had an old family heirloom i was hoping you could appraise for me..."

@unveiledvagabonds; for caidence to drop by rictor's store with a gift.

@unveiledvagabonds; For Caidence To Drop By Rictor's Store With A Gift.

rictor was at his desk in the shop, loupe attached to his glasses. the witch was currently working on restoring an antique, being extremely meticulous and delicate with the object. it was a miniature sculpture that was at least a couple hundred years old. brush in hand, he was dabbing a little bit of plaster on a thin crack to cover it up. rictor adjusted the desklight shining down on it to check if he'd missed a spot. it was then when he heard the shopkeeper's bell ring, signalling a potential customer. "give me a moment! i'll be right with you." he called out as he tilted the sculpture around to catch the light.

satisfied that the crack had been covered, the witch placed the brush down on the wooden table, which in and of itself was also an antique. "now what can i do you for?" he asked, looking up from his work; not realising he still had his loupe on, and as such failed to immediately recognise the man before him due to his magnified and distorted vision.

"he Was Nice. It Was... Nice." While He Wasn't Lying, The Man Was Easy To Talk Too And Even Easier On

"he was nice. it was... nice." while he wasn't lying, the man was easy to talk too and even easier on the eyes, the night didn't exactly go off without a hitch. dinner was incredible. they spent a few hours over a nice meal getting to know each other and laughing as they shared embarrassing memories and experiences. the drinks that followed were even better. even though keagan knew how to play darts, he didn't stop the man from holding around him so he could show keagan the best stance to use while playing. they flirted and bantered for what felt like hours until the other finally made the offer to take keagan home.

"he was super sweet, and easy to talk too. we had a blast, really, we did leofwyn-- you haven't lost your mojo." the lie lingered for a minute or two in silence, as if keagan was trying to make himself believe it only for the witch to let out a sigh and crack.

"okay, i still don't think you've lost your mojo-- this one was almost perfect-- but once we got back to my place? he kept calling me his ex's name and was concerned more with getting himself off than making it pleasurable for the both of us." but that wasn't leofwyn's fault. "when he left this morning he said he'd love to take me out again when i'm less distracted, which was hilarious." in his defense, keagan had spent most of the night telling stories about leofwyn; about his best friend and how much he loves spending time with him, and how he genuinely just can't imagine doing things without him around because even just having him to talk to makes things feel easier for the witch. "i don't know. i just... i think we were a good match on paper but not in person. maybe it was just a bad time for the both of us, which has nothing to do with you. we messed it up, not you."

keagan was trying to be nice.

"he Was Nice. It Was... Nice." While He Wasn't Lying, The Man Was Easy To Talk Too And Even Easier On

@unveiledvagabonds; for leofwyn to interrogate keagan over lunch at a café.

@unveiledvagabonds; For Leofwyn To Interrogate Keagan Over Lunch At A Caf.

"now come on, tell me. how did the date last night go?" he'd been trying to set his friend up for what felt like years now, on and off. it didn't matter that he was completely and utterly smitten, head over heels for the other. leofwyn had a job to do and he was going to do it to he best of his ability. though he was starting to wonder if he was too close to keagan for his magic to work properly... or if his own feelings for the witch was messing up his matches, unintentionally or otherwise.

it wouldn't be the first time in his life that the couples the cupid had brought together parted ways. contrary to popular belief, love wasn't eternal; and sometimes it fell apart. it occasionally had him a little weary, dejected by the outcome of it all, but he's seen how love could change people, heal their broken bones and hearts, make them joyful — he still believed in its power and it's kept him going all these years. leofwyn took a sip of his spiked coffee. it was midday, he was allowed. besides he knew he couldn't be sober for this. "couldn't be that bad right? it'd be pretty embarrassing if i'd lost all my mojo."

"you Flatter Me Darling But Don't Discredit Yourself. I'm Not The Only One They Tend To Have Eyes For."

"you flatter me darling but don't discredit yourself. i'm not the only one they tend to have eyes for." that's all any of them would ever be allowed, if they were so lucky; he only strayed, or shared, with their sons. aeryne had no desires for anyone else. he didn't mind them looking and, on occasion, he had his fun with their wandering glances but he already had everything he wanted right there at his side; everything he needed. "how long has it been since our last scandal?" aeryne poised the question with a soft smirk on his lips as his hand fell to rest on his husband's thigh; gripping at the muscle as he leaned up closer against aksel's side. "maybe we're due another one; it'd be so easy to clear the table off for you..." he teasingly tempted.

craning his head back, allowing more access to his throat, fluttering breaths and whispered groans of approval settled on his lips as aksel began to trail soft, quick kisses against his jaw and down the stretch of his neck. whining, so quietly that only a select few would have been able to hear him, goosebumps peppered across his exposed skin and over his arms as he felt his lovers thumb brush against the inch of flesh that had been revealed by the shifting of his shirt.

"the bill," his voice broke a bit as he whispered his answer. aeryne considered trying to drag things out a bit longer, to torment his husband and truly test how patient he could be, but the merman was too intoxicated by his needs now to play the long game. "the bill." aeryne answered again, his voice stronger and louder this time, as he turned his head so he could meet his husband's gaze; a darkened look in his own eyes silently conveying that they had mere minutes, seconds really, before aeryne was all over him.

"you Flatter Me Darling But Don't Discredit Yourself. I'm Not The Only One They Tend To Have Eyes For."

aksel grinned. "they would be so privileged, to bask in your beauty, elskan mín." he didn't share (well, except with his children). but a tease; to let them see what they can't have? aksel was very much for that. he had an insatiable hunger for maeryne. and most times he didn't care for the time or place. (within certain reasons of course.) "oh trust me. if it was, i would be having you on the table already." there was a reason why those were mostly private affairs. usually near or by the lake. they'd get lost in each other way too often in public. and it was certainly shaping up to be that way tonight — there was no physical way he was going to be able to wait till they were home.

the merman placed a kiss on the other's jaw; before he trailed down to aeryne's neck in soft, quick pecks. nothing too scandalous yet. his arm lifts a little, causing aeryne's shirt and tee to ride up slightly. his thumb stroked the exposed skin on his husband's hip. "now come on, dessert? or the bill?" aksel doubted he could wait for dessert. they'd have to call the waiter over, then order, then wait for it to be delivered, then eat... certainly sounded like too much trouble. he also doubted that his other half would be that cruel to him but maybe he was trying to push his buttons. "before i start eating you up right here."

Aksel Grinned. "they Would Be So Privileged, To Bask In Your Beauty, Elskan Mn." He Didn't Share (well,

his time was often spent traveling, chasing after pleasures and excitement rather than wasting away in the quaint little paradise eve had created for herself-- and them. still. alexandria had been where he claimed his home was for the past two hundred years; give or take. it had almost become tradition, at this point, that whenever he returned to his sprawling estate he would host a hedonistic dinner party to celebrate his return. delicacies from all over the world, from varying species and their cultures; men, and women, at the prime of their lives eager to eager to engorge themselves on food and wine, and cum. his dinners became synonymous with sin and the celebration of it. many clamored for his attention just in hopes that they would, one day, receive an invitation for themselves so they could indulge in the vampires grace and pleasure seeking. yet even with the most delicious morsels in attendance, xzavulon was often the only draekov gave his full attention.

their relationship was long lasting, convoluted, and tangled-- and draekov wouldn't have had it any other way.

"you're either lost, pet, or you're more bold than i previously thought." stepping into the upstairs hallway of his home, the glorified orgy raging below in the dining room, draekov was surprised to find one of his snacks standing in the doorway; peaking in on his xzavulon. rather than being annoyed with them for straying, the vampire was amused. "be a good pet," he commented as he wiped some fresh blood from his lips, "and find your way back to the others. for now he's mine... but if i feel inclined to share, i'll come find you."

pushing past the guest, who stumbled away back to the party, draekov finally stepped into the grand bedroom he had told zav to wait for him in. "sorry for keeping you waiting, i had to wade through your fans. funny, they are normally desperate for my attention but tonight more of them seem drawn to you... not that i can blame them."

he didn't say it outright but there was something in his eyes, something in the way they shown in that dimly lit room as his lips threatened to hint at a smile, that said it for him. he had missed xzavulon.
