CRIMINAL MINDS : EVOLUTION SPOILERS

if you know anything about me... you know that i went INSANE for this first episode. hell, the first hurdle of the series is them trying to handle an emotionally explosive and greiving rossi! it. . God😭😭😭 i know i said i wanted rossi to go through awful things but not like This😭. hes so sad it hurts. i have so many things i need to touch on

1) i. Can't believe they killed krystall off.???...

in a writing sense, you'd assume that maybe it makes sense! maybe getting rid of krystall is the only thing that would send rossi into deep enough of a spiral to go back to work...

But that's not how rossi has EVER been.

i know i'm insane, but i've psychoanalyzed this guy. even when he's been in happy marriages (like with carolynn), he's still utterly obsessed with the job. it's the one constant thing in his life. i would assume the adrenaline from it would be like a drug, the intense highs and lows being addicting. not to mention the ego boost and the flood of happiness that comes with each case solved successfully!

i just... Don't know. i love rossi in pain and messier than we've ever seen him, believe me, i've written my fair share of drabbles that are exactly that. but seeing it in canon is so different.. /pos?

> he's in a HOTEL because he can't stand how quiet the house is, especially after he lived in a quiet house for decades before krystall came back into his life. he has a whole corkboard conspiracy theory wall (and i'm so offended that we didnt have another "face off" moment where ben savage steps in as gideon's shithead spirit ghost thing that rossi sees for some reason during tricky cases)

> in "profiling 202", he admit that cooking is the one thing that relaxes him- he even compares it to meditating!!!...... and look what we see him making. Microwavable Macaroni And Cheese. my god. everybody jokes about how picky rossi probably is with his food, how he only eats authentic italian and despises penelope's tofu pancetta monstrosity... this? . like emily said about rossi in "damaged", when his office was a mess. "this is a SCREAM for help".

Please im just imagining rossi has stopped giving a single shit. we always make "please someone let rossi retire" jokes, but. he's ALLOWED to retire! he's BEEN allowed for a very long time😭😭😭! he just won't. even penelope talks about it! in the scene directly after she stands her ground against rossi (i am so happy abt that btw i. could talk for so long about how happy i am for penelope and her growth as a character???) :

"It's hard to say. I mean, we haven't been together much."

^^^ penelope's first instinct is to figure out what's wrong with rossi- and then?? she immediately knows EXACTLY what rossi's mental state is, right in that moment. she knows he's completely reverted back to that unhealthy season 3 "i don't need anybody and i'm more experienced than all of you so i have the higher ground" mindset. and . God that's so important to me actually.

and 2.???) ... i can't believe they mentioned gideon .

"Dave."

"Mh?"

"How you doing?"

"... Great."

"Gonna see the family for the holidays? Joy, Portia, grandkids?"

"... Maybe."

"I think you should. ... A long time ago, Gideon told me to make sure I didn't go quiet, because it meant I stopped trusting my team." (1)

"He said in the early days, it was easy to fall into two modes... silence and rage. And you guys had to find a way to fill in the middle, and you found that when you talked things through, it made it easier to remember you weren't alone."

1 > gideon said. ROSSI'S ADVICE. GIVEN TO HIM YEARS AND YEARS AGO. TO *EMILY*??!&?_??????!!!!. does this mean gideon REGULARLY MENTIONED THE BSU DAYS? was this a special occasion??? what was she getting advice FOR???

2 > ?!_$??!!. SO. youre telling ME. ROSSI WAS THE ONE EMOTIONALLY SUPPORTING GIDEON SOMETIMES. we've seen gideon get deep into cases, like in "nelson's sparrow", where rossi barely has to say 3 sentences before gideon has calmed down. Please i can't stop imagining "alright, sit down" "what?" "we're talking about this" "dave-" "don't dave me, and sit down".

3 > ... she compliments rossi, tells him hes been doing a good job after he just pummels himself into the ground. he feels GUILTY. god, he feels so insanely guilty for snapping at the team when they've been doing so much for him. he's guilty about being this hostile and tired. it's real grief, and real grief isn't usually pretty!... and she just compliments him. and the way he reacts immediately makes her give him thee softest "dave..." in the world. and. God i cant handle that. hes gonna cry

okay😭😭😭! i am done ranting in this post. i'll definitely make more. i dont think anybodys gonna read all of this bc its just me going insane abt characterization but oh well!

i think rossi's initial environment when facing grief ABSOLUTELY plays a part into how he deals with it.

most of the grief we've seen him go through can barely be called grief. because he doesn't grieve. he doesn't ALLOW himself to. he's at work, he's busy, he's always got something occupying his thoughts. hell, the first (and maybe the ONLY) time we really see him actively sob is when carolynn died, and i'm 99% sure he comes back into work the next day😭. i know hotch says "you don't have to be here.", but he sorta does ! he does this repression-thing until the grieving window fades out. it never fully goes away, though!

... and for krystall, he was retired and happy! he was at HOME. KRYSTALL was the thing that he focused on, not the job. he's always needed something to fill his day. and when krystall was ripped away? he scrambled to get back into the rhythm of work, but ended up burying himself in it.

he isn't letting himself grieve here, either! it's even more unstable.

and my other running theory actually sort of ties in with this character analysis.!

do you think. the negative effects of not properly grieving... *counts on fingers* like 4 or 5 personal deaths, in the past decade or so....... just slam into him like an actual train, with krystall's death❤️?

yes, he lost the woman he was ready to spend the rest of his life with and fate has essentially resigned him to dying alone- but God!!!??? you're telling me that man DOESN'T think he's pretty much cursed with all the funerals he's attended?? that every relationship he has, platonic or not, is probably gonna end horribly? "is this how it's gonna go? all my friends dying off?"???????????

you think that david rossi DOESN'T keep track of how old his son would be each year on his birth (and death) date???

you believe that he DOESN'T fear almost every single day that someone else he loves will die, someone far younger and with much more life to live?? and since the only family he probably has LEFT is the team, it'll be one of them?🤨🤨🤨

hello everyone ❤️ i have many thoughts but i will shorten them for this post!

1. i watched the new criminal minds evolution episode finally! ................... it was something! (the most intruiging part of the entire episode was elias' backstory and im not even sorry for saying it, ive been so hyped about this and he READS ROSSIS BOOKS and i NEEEEEED . MORE INFO ABOUT CYRUS IMMEDIATELY!!! GOD!!!!!!!!!)

(also ive never been more of a jj stan for gods sake guys😭 give her a HUG)

(i will not be mentioning tynelope <3. Pentyler? .. OR TARA AND REBECCA. WHAT THE FFFFUCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!?????)

my next thoughts sorta bleed into my new episode thoughts, but bare with me, because it takes a second! (its because rossi's books are featured in both❤️)

2. ........ i was doing my annual rewatch of "zoe's reprise", as you do! and i have a lot of things to say about it (i dont care if you dont like him the episode genuinely brings out a very interesting facet of rossi's character in such an intruiging way and ive always been very curious as to how he actually Handles being a famous author over such a horrid subject matter- not to mention he has a very obvious ick with idol worship, especially directed towards himself! take "limelight" for example, he is so uncomfortable that entire episode because the whole precinct KNOWS him. hell, its only mentioned once, but he literally had a mentee BREAK INTO HIS HOUSE like SIX TIMES😭!!!)

anyways, that episode is . So good. and YES i know that not everybody who reads this post ships hossi (welcome to my personal rarepair hell everyone, take a seat❤️), but Ohhhhhhh my god bare with me. hotch and rossi have an "omnivore" moment. they do this semi-often, i've noticed! i can't count the episodes, but it essentially goes like this :

- one of them gets emotionally unstable during a case and has to "take a breather", which usually means going outside all emo

- the other IMMEDIATELY follows. no hesitation. in "zoe's reprise", hotch quite literally tells the team to deliver the profile without him. all rossi did was say "hey im gonna go outside and take a breather" and hotch Knew.

- they do that old married couple bickering. "you think this is YOUR fault, aaron?" "i know it is" / "i was the one who told her to never stop chasing the trail" "dave, what are you doing?"

- and they eventually arrive on a compromise! that compromise is always "no matter what, this is still a case, and we're gonna solve it".

and that is one of my Many favorite things about them!

3. hossi aside, though, i just wanted to dump a couple images i found😭

❤️❤️❤️ rossi books. oh how i would kill to read all of them. also its super intruiging that, stuffed in between them, is a book covering jack the ripper!!! obviously its foreshadowing to the unsub of the episode (WHO READS ROSSI'S BOOKS!), but it would be very silly if he wrote a book dealing with that case.

now this next one is the blurriest ugliest image in the world because i took it very excitedly while watching the episode on my TV, so 😭

AAAAUAAAAGHJJJHGHSSSHGGJFRRNDJDHDGSDHJT (silence of the lambs poster Silence Of The Lambs Poster). you dont know HOW many times ive giggled about the fact that david rossi and clarice starling have the same "i hear screams" trauma😭.

also i would kill for zoe's room tbh. need that poster so bad, and the little skeleton???

... i have . some thoughts. about the newest episode!

CME EPISODE 9 SPOILERS

1) Oh david rossi ouhghnouggbn . ouggshbebrh Ohhhhhhhhhh. im. cant formulate my thoughts into words. without sounding absolutely insane.

i am so normal i am sooo okay with all of this. its not like ive always wanted to see how this guy would react when put into various situations and i finally get one of the situations EVERY OTHER BAU MEMBER has been a part of. also fuckyou guys i think rossi and elias are silly💔 "do you need help zipping up?" "why, do you want to? 🤨🤨🤨" .

2). Everyone is. a twinge ooc! obviously thats the issue when you make a new series taking old characters .

... penelope is the worst ooc, though. Ohhh i could talk for. a minute😭😭😭. they literally just erased all of her growth and progress? for a random dude? i love tyler as a character but holy fuck! i dont even like garvez that much and i wouldve MUCH rather had that!

3) listening to ppl whine "why is CME focused on rossi:( i hate him he should die" i am literally thriving and so happy over here. i am full of whimsical joy. can you say the same /lighthearted . also since u hate rossi wouldnt this be healing to u😭???? literally u get to watch him suffer. go ham .
