a3! annotation headcanons

as a theatre kid, i couldn’t help but think about how the troupe members would annotate their scripts! I have all of act 1 of the spring troupe written out so I'll be posting them all soon! I'll be going in order of the troupes, but feel free to request a character!

Sakuya: i feel like he’d take a ton of little notes in the margins of his scripts! almost everything that comes up in practice is in there lol, he’d write down blocking, any notes on line delivery, and mark any passages he has to emphasize, i feel like he would use sticky notes too, which may become a problem as they fall out as he keeps using the script for weeks on end

Masumi: if the director said it, it’s in there. ESPECIALLY if it’s something the director praised him on~ i feel like masumi would do a bit of underlining, but if confronted about the barrenness of his notes, he would claim he just takes ‘mental notes‘ 

Tsuzuru: oh boy, this poor kid’s script is falling apart after only one week. even if he’s the one who wrote it all, he’s take a TON of notes on blocking, delivery, emotion, cues, and occasionally he’d mark where technical stuff happens ‘just for reference’. because of how much he’s writing in that thing, there are probably miscellaneous notes in there too, you may even find a grocery list!

I 100% guarantee you that sakuya wishes everyone a “good morning!!” or “good night!!”. Everyone just feels ~good and warm~ bc he says it with so much love!! It's such a constant of everyone’s day that if sakuya is ever sick or staying in his room for whatever reason, every member of Mankai comes into his room to say good morning, afternoon, and night because he's OUR KID. 

And if i may get a bit of angst in here~ Sakuya probably partakes in this little routine due to his formerly nonexistent home-life. Just, the fact that he has people living with him, people who like him, and a FAMILY to come home to must mean soooo much to him since he’s never had that before Mankai. Loneliness is a terrifying thing in how subtly it can affect you. What feels worse for me is that sakuya was living with people before Mankai. They just didn’t really care about him. He was just another kid in their house.

When he came to Mankai and he was VALUED, and respected and people listened to him and cared about his interests, it was like a switch flipped. He learned that having a found family was so beautiful, so amazing, that he needs to make sure that all of his family feels loved and seen and needed too. I think that cheerful personality he had in the beginning may have been-to an extent- an act. He tried to be good and likeable for his families, but that never turned out well for him, so it became just his desperate, automatic disposition. But I do believe that once he found he was accepted at Mankai, the cheerfulness we see in him is real. Sakuya’s sweet “good morning!!”s are more than just pleasantries. He needs to do it, as often as possible.

Imagine, if you please: 

After being taught a bit about Shakespeare by homare, muku decided to learn some monologues and present them to homare as a bit of a thank-you! sakuya walks by and recognizes the monologue, (bc theatre, baby) and they all become shakespeare reading buddies! This becomes a more regular thing as it does help them all with memorization, dictation, and pronunciation!! Homare loves teaching ‘the youth of mankai’ about the wonders of Shakespeare and is absolutely delighted when he finds sakuya and muku quoting Shakespeare at each other and reading the plays while hanging around the dorms.

Spring Troupe with a kinda tsundere-ish (not in an abusive way but cute denial) s/o please?

ahh this was cute!! thanks for sending this in and being so patient, hope you like it!!! 

Sakuya : he’s a bit surprised at first!! The first time they kinda turned away from him abruptly during a conversation (he was talking about the costumes for their upcoming performance and *omg his eyes are sparkling?? Why is he so cute??ghkjfhkngjndk I can't take this oh god*) he worried for a second that he might have upset them, which is the last thing he’d want to do!!! He stepped over to see their face properly and he kinda shut down and got more confused when he realised they were blushing??? Poor kid just could not figure out for the life of him why they were blushing when he was just talking about a play until itaru explained that he was being vv adorable. Once he learns this, he proceeds to become a blushin little mess whenever he realises they’re blushing and then it's just a never ending cycle until someone says something.

Masumi: oo i paused for a second writing this one, but i think masu would adore this!!!! He’s grinning and blushing bc he adoreeees seeing his s/o all flustered and stubborn. He’d be stubborn right back at his s/o until they give in (ex: complimenting them until they’re red in the face) because it makes him vv happy :>

Citron: a bit confused at first, but once he remembers the concept of ‘tsundere’, he’s all here for it!! He’d be the one to call his s/o a tsundere to their face because he thinks it's a cute nickname! He will lightheartedly tease his s/o but he would always assure them afterwards that he wasn't trying to be mean! They’re just too cute!

Itaru: HE IS LOVING THIS OMG!!!!! He recognised it right away!!!! Every now and then they say something that's almost word for word what a tsundere character in one of his games says to the protagonist and aaaAAAHHHHHH!!!! He giggles so hard!!! And he will purposely flirt just to see their reaction bc yoo!!!! They’re so cute!!! Masumi says ew at itaru every single time, but gamer boy wouldn’t have it any other way <3

Tsuzuru: Honestly, I think for tsuzu he’d try and learn his s/o’s behavior and habits, and before you know it, tsuzu gets smooth as hell??? No one saw it coming?? But! with all his writing, he’s gotten really good at character analysis and he’s come to learn a lot of their ‘lines’ and can read body language like a book so he knows exactly which buttons to push and when to tease his s/o without being mean

Chikage: (note for this one! As of writing this, I've only just met chikage in-story, so I apologise if this is a bit ooc!) ok, cabbage man takes this as a personal challenge. Chikage definitely likes having the upperhand in knowing that anytime he wants he can turn the argument in his favor if he just flirts a little bit. He’s always smiling with this cocky little look on his face and ahfdhjaskmds its the WORST uk what i mean?

Heya~ can I have some Juza and Sakuya friendship headcanons? The clumsy yet earnest duo is so underrated and I would love to see more of them as buddies 🥺🥺🥺 ~🍁

Ooooo these two are so cute!! Thanks for waiting for me to post this 🍁 anon!! (and congrats! You’re my first anon with an emoji associated with you! I think the maple leaf is cute!!)

-they look up to each other in different ways!! Juza admires sakuya’s talent and outgoing attitude, and sakuya admires juza’s drive and thinks he’s really cool!! They both admire each other’s passion for acting!!

-Juza also really appreciates that saku is a good role model for kumon and tried to thank him for it, but sakuya insisted that he loved helping others, and it was his duty as a troupe leader to help anyone who needs it, even if they aren't from his troupe!

-Juza once expressed his admiration for how sakuya seemed to be really good at portraying emotion and giving all around good delivery + intonation to his lines, and sakuya retaliated with complimenting juza on his passion and rapidly growing skills in improv and general stage presence

-If u havent noticed already, they are cotton-candy levels of sweet :3

-Sakuya secretly wants to know juza’s workout routine

-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA they’re angels

-Saku knows that sometimes juza doesnt talk alot, not in a rude way, but he’s just a bit quiet, so he doesnt push juza to socialize but he’ll keep talking to him so he knows he’s not being left out

-On that note, sakuya has made it a point to specifically ask juza his opinion on something during group conversations to get him a bit more out there

-Sakuya really does love seeing the hyodo-sasika family interact, and when they all collectively noticed his yearning for a family dynamic, they pretty much adopted him. Saku comes over for dinner with juza and kumon, sometimes with muku, and sometimes with all of them!!! Their parents adore saku vv much

-Juza once saw sakuya climbing onto a counter to get something from the top shelf and remembered how kumon does the same, from then on he told sakuya to ask him if he needed help reaching something

-Its kinda funny, they have an older-younger brother dynamic, but depending on the situation its like they switch roles

-Usually sakuya is like an older brother tho

Sakuya looks around him while sitting in the common room. Muku is happily showing azuma his favorite scenes from his most recent manga, tsuzuru is trying his best to scrape together dinner, and kumon is pleading with yuki to get him to play cat’s cradle. “You have such nimble lithe fingers! You’d be great at it!!” “What, and get my hands all sore and have to make the puppy embroider this shirt? I don't think so” “C’mon pleaseee?? Just for 5 minutes??” “Tch, fine I guess.” Sakuya is surrounded by love.

Omi reaches over the sofa and ruffles sakuya’s hair. “A little bird who was up late told me you were studying past midnight. You feelin’ ok?” Sakuya beamed up at Omi’s thoughtfulness. “Ah, i was hoping no one would notice if i was quiet enough. But yeah… I had a history quiz today and I was cramming. But I remembered all the answers!! Well, except for that one that involved dates, I might have been off by a year or too...” “Well, I’m glad you did a good job! We’re all proud of you, you know that, right?” Sakuya paused. Proud? Proud of him? Proud? Omi, stood for a moment, then understanding hit him, sakuya wasn’t used to this. Unsure how to proceed, he laid his hand on the little kid’s shoulder and rubbed his thumb slowly back and forth. “I mean it.” Sakuya is surrounded by love.

The two grab cups of milk and go to sit in the courtyard, with a plate of a few canelés between them.

Sakuya knows he is loved.

i thought this'd be funny asf omg so can you sort mankai actors by whether they can whistle or not?? it's okay if u don't but i just think it'd be rlly funny lmaooo

Can whistle and is good at it: itaru, citron, chikage, tsuzuru, misumi, banri, taichi, azuma, guy, matsukawa, tetsuro

Can whistle mostly well: yuki, kazunari, omi, azami, homare, sakoda

Cannot whistle and is fine with it: sakuya, masumi, muku, juza, sakyo, tsumugi, hisoka

Cannot whistle and is furious/upset about it: tenma, kumon, tasuku, Izumi

How they act when you’re overworked, Spring Troupe version!

(oh my goodness I only realised after the fact that I made almost every character bring you food.,.,,. I guess I was hungry while writing lol)

Sakuya: Saku-saku will actually be very concerned if you’re stressed and overworked. Will continually ask how you’re feeling and if you need anything. Will gently pull you aside every so often to take a nap if you’re falling asleep on your textbook. You don't know when it happened, but you realise that at some point he put his sweater on you and it was super cozy and smelled really good.,.,.,an all around sweetie <3

Masumi: ok, one of two options here, he either acts like he doesn’t care but you will find snacks and drinks on your desk while you work (he has thrown them at your head before and Sakuya made him apologize for that ) OR he will be after you 24/7 to make sure you’re taking care of yourself, he will never leave your room until you’re done.

Tsuzuru: horribly hypocritical, you will get a lecture if you stay up late. But, he will supply you with snacks and very basic meals if you have classes and/or work so you don’t crash

Citron: he tends to just sit next to you, lean against you, keep you company. This’ll be one of the few times he isn’t chattering away or singing something to you out of respect for your concentration. If you get cold he will crawl onto you like a lap-dog, it's just so comfy cozy! Drapes his big warm scarves over your shoulders. Sometimes brings you tea, he brews it himself <3

Itaru: hands you an energy drink or black coffee. “awww poor thing. You’ll be fine tho”,.,.,.meanie /lh. If you want company while you work he’ll sit next to you and play his games without the volume on so he won't disturb you too much.

Chikage: will regularly bring meals in for you. Ok, by meals I mean curry but you knew that already. Hands you a plate of spicy tripe curry and tells you that it cures all symptoms of fatigue but it will also tinge your skin blue from the excess of selenium and zinc (false, that will not happen i promise you). You just squinted at him as menacingly as possible while taking the plate. He does cook really well and the spice has the added side effect of making you drink more water, thus making you hydrated! Evil mastermind behavior right here!!

Citron and Chikage have a literally insane amount of scarves between them. During the autumn and winter seasons, Citron will run to bundle up anyone who doesn't have a scarf with them before they go out because he doesn't want anyone catching a cold. Sakuya has at least 3 scarves on his side of their room at any time. It’s super cute seeing Citron wrapping up Saku-saku every morning before classes/ before any outings. The scarves also smell really nice, like almost a spiced perfume-like scent. Citron’s scarves always smell like spiced sweets (cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, you know the vibe) and Chikage’s smell more like plain spice and curry and like, sterile office building smell.

Post-show Blues(Sakuya x reader)

Summary/preview: “Sakuya here! You have post show depression? Hey, it’s okay, I can help. Would you mind coming into my arms for a sec?” Enjoy a fluffy oneshot I wrote because my show ended and now I’m sad!

You shuffled to the door of Sakuya and Citron’s room, coming to a halt as you knocked on the door. It was nearly 2 am, and your head hung low, the nervousness you felt spiking when you saw the doorknob turn as Sakuya poked his head out.

“Oh, hey, what are you doing here?” He asked, fully opening the door for you.

“I, uh, couldn’t sleep.” You simply stated, faking a sheepish smile.

You were an actor, after all.

The truth was actually a lot sillier than the fact that you couldn’t sleep. The run of the show you were in had finally ended, and it was beginning to feel as if your life had lost some of its meaning.

Sakuya smiled at your false reasoning, happy that, from his perspective, at least, you were doing okay.

“Well, if that’s the case, you’re always welcome here, no matter what. Citron’s actually out tonight, so it’ll just be the two of us if that’s okay.”

“That’s perfect, actually.” You replied, still keeping your smile plastered on your face.

Sakuya led you into the room, shutting the door behind you as he turned on a small lamp. He then climbed up the ladder to his bed, gesturing for you to do the same.

You went up, slightly worried about the weight limit, but it seemed like it didn’t matter to Sakuya.

Laying down next to him, your faces within close proximity, you couldn’t help but blush. If you leaned in any further… now wasn’t really the time for that.

“So”, Sakuya started, a low tone to his voice, “do you mind telling me what happened? Other than not being able to sleep, of course.”

His smile was warm and welcoming, ready to accept anything, no matter how odd. Your eyes filled with tears once more, nervous to say anything.

“Nothing, just bad sleeping habits is all.”

“Are you sure? I can see your tears, so something must be wrong.” Your eyes widened, and you were suddenly hyper aware of what your face looked like.

You blinked, allowing the tears to fall.

“Dammit…” you muttered. Sakuya held your face, gently swiping his thumb across your cheek to wipe the single tear away.

“Will you please tell me what’s wrong? I’m not going to say anything to anyone else about this.” He whispered, trying to reassure you.

You took a deep inhale, then sighed out, remembering the reason you came to him out of everyone else in the company.

If anyone would understand it would be him…

You mustered up some courage, then finally spoke in a hoarse voice.

“It’s just some post-show depression. It’s nothing, really, but it’s still hard for me. I’m gonna miss doing this production.” Sakuya’s eyes widened, then softened with understanding before pulling you closer to his chest.

“I know the feeling. It’s always hard to lose what took over your life for a long time, and most of the time, you never get to see the cast again. It’s hard, I know, but that’s what makes Mankai so special. You still get to have these people near you, and even without Mankai, you’ll probably stay in touch with your cast. I used to get really bad post show depression, but since I came here, it’s never been as hard as it used to be. I’m not going to tell you to just get over it, nor am I saying your feelings aren’t irrelevant or not valid. I just want to give you some exciting hope for the future with us, and I hope you’ll stay for years to come.”

The more he talked, the more reassured you felt, and the more tears began to flow.

You cried and cried, snuggling deep into Sakuya’s shoulder as he rubbed your back and whispered kind words into your ear.

Who knew that simple things such as “I’m proud of you” and “You did great, now you can rest until the next one” could make you feel so happy and warm?

Sakuya shifted onto his back, gently readjusting your body so he could hold you on top of his chest.

You found yourself finally drowsy after a good cry, and you snuggled into his hold accordingly. He tightened his grip on you, giving you a reassuring squeeze before planting his lips onto your forehead.

The kiss lingered for a moment, allowing you to both drink in the comfort and tenderness the moment held. Sakuya finally released his lips, beginning to toy with your hair.

“Good night”, he whispered, “I’ll see you on stage soon.”

Based pretty loosely on the painting above by Monet cause I'm totes a cultured art enjoyer... And because I saw @/moonplum_ on insta draw a Sakuya based on a painting, thought it fucked and decided to do something similar!

Sakuya's outfit is my fave out of this set though that might just be because he's got the fewest frills... Kazu and Banri's fits r the bane of my existence rn

Drawing this was really fun~ even though it's super time consuming I really like doing stuff in this painted style!
