Does anyone have heist movies/TV shows/books to recomend?

I'm writing a story about a heist and I really need some reference for it. It can be both period pieces and modern ones.

Please people of Tumblr, help!

The Moment Seemed To Stretch Before Edward Reached Out For Him And Hugged Him To His Chest. Oswald Felt

The moment seemed to stretch before Edward reached out for him and hugged him to his chest. Oswald felt himself breathe as Edward’s breathing hit the side of his head.

“ Dum,” Edward said quietly, “ It means hug. It also means to hide. Domni makes a request, hug me… hide me. ”

“ Domni…” Oswald echoed, and was pleasantly surprised when Edward held him tighter.

Skin-to skin, heart-to-heart, they eventually fell asleep.

When I get a nice AO3 comment or Tumblr reblog I have to force myself not to say "I LOVE YOU PLEASE MARRY ME CAN WE BE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER I'M OBSESSED WITH YOU" and instead say "thanks"

oh my favorite trope? two people who go through something so unique and agonizing and entirely beyond words that they have no choice but to create a bond that transcends all other types of love, thus acting as the sole point of understanding for the other person in a world that cannot fathom what they’ve been through

Getting inspired to write is actually really easy! All you need to do is be the busiest you've ever been in your entire life and as far away from a computer as humanly possible. Hope this helps 🥰

no because i don't set goals because they make me anxious. but maybe i should set goals so i'd actually do stuff lmfao

I HAVE THE ENDING PLANNED!

idk write

Day 13

Did you have any writing goals for this year? Why or why not? And if so, did you meet them?

What’s one achievement you’re proud of this year?

What’s one goal you hope to achieve in 2024?

As i said in another answer before, this story is very much something i'm writing because i want to have fun with it, because i love these characters and i think their story is one that deserves to be written, even if i'm the only one who enjoys it

i'm not sure it's unique, but i think that the way i plan of balancing excruciating angst and horror with heartbreaking human connections and love is worth mentioning

Yes! My ex girfriend read a couple of chapters, and my brother read the first one. And that's a lot because i'm a perfectionist and also i have so much anxiety about my writing, i hate when people read my stuff. But i'm overcoming it by trusting the people i love with it. Also they both know the whole plot, to some extent

Day 12

What’s your favorite thing about your story and why?

What do you feel is the most unique thing about your story and why?

Have you ever let anyone else read your drafts? Why or why not?

hehehe okay so we have: the "what i want to do" vs "the what i (think i) should do", betrayal and lies, and, of course, actual villains:

Hehehe Okay So We Have: The "what I Want To Do" Vs "the What I (think I) Should Do", Betrayal And Lies,

I mean just look at them

Serge at the beginning is a reckless kid who would do everything for his sisters, and he does. He's immature, a little silly, and, in his idiotic way, actually very cute and sweet, but extremely alone and living in constant trauma. When he meets Akthi he learns what being understood means. After a couple of very bad traumas one after the other, he finds himself feeling even more alone, but now he is also unable to trust anyone, and he buries himself into work. At the end he will learn to let go and will change his priorities from someone who doesn't actually know him and doesn't need him to someone who knows him and loves him anyway, and also very much needs him

The stakes here are on the roof. i guess i like it when stakes are high

Day 11

What/Who is the main conflict or antagonist of your story? Why did you choose this?

How does your protagonist grow / develop over the course of the story?

How high do you like the stakes to be in a story? Is this different between things you like to read and things you like to write?

PLAN THE DAMN THING YOU FOOL.

Never meet your heroes, so maybe jk rowling to tell her she sucks. But i would gladly ask Pennac and Celine writing advices, and Tolkien world building advices

I save everything i can, i have like 7 copies of the same documents because i have the terror of loosing everything.

Day 10

If you could give one piece of writing advice to your younger self, what would it be and why?

If you could talk to any writer, living or deceased, who would it be and what would you talk about?

Do you save all of your work? Or do you delete things you don’t like? Why?

Settings! I usually have my dialogues planned out before

lol i don't really draw scenary but i probably should. sometimes i have a clear idea in my head, but it doesn't make any sense if you think about more than 5 minutes

i thrive when i write emotions, because i can use a million metaphores!!! so idk i don't think so.

Day 9

Which is harder for you to write: Settings or dialog?

When writing a description of a room or an outdoor scene, do you need to draw a picture of the area? Or do you have a clear picture of the area in your head?

Do you find that writing a certain emotion (fear, lust, happiness, jealousy) is harder to write than others for you? Why is that?

I have a very bad case of the "interiorizing stuff i saw and basically stealing/blatantly copying stuff at the end without realizing" disease. Six months ago i realized the alias i gave my main character was actually the alias of a real italian gangster. I had to change it while crying because it destroyed a lot of symbolism i had created around his alias. but it worked out for the best in the end i think so yay

both! they usually end up being way nicer, queerer and likable in the end

are you ever really done till you finish the book?

Day 8

Did you ever find that someone/something surprising inspired one of your OCs? How did you feel after you found this out if this was the case?

Do you plan out your OCs carefully or do they seem to come to you very naturally?

How long does it take for you to perfect one of your OCs, whether they come to you naturally or you have to plan them out?

We're gonna answer for Serge and Akthi:

We're Gonna Answer For Serge And Akthi:

Serge: idk bread or something. Akthi: the first meal he cooked for himself, probably a soup idk

Serge: getting beat up, playing with his little sister Jaqueline, makeup and dressup (future). Akthi: cooking (future), reading, inventing new creative ways to hide his boobs

bold of you to think they have any comfort or a safe place. They look up to the sky to see the stars btw

Day 7

What is your OC's favorite food? Why is this food their favorite?

What hobbies do your OCs have?

When in need of comfort or a safe place to go, who or what would they go to?

Okay get ready for a wild ride lmao: 1- twelve yo me drew 3 pages of a comic about a girl coming back home to her family, and then doing the "But to understand, we have to go back" and she started telling the story of her family (which i didn't know, so that's how it ended lmao). 2- around 2020 i picked it up like "this might have something to it" so i tried to decide the story of the family, which led to the creation of Serge and his sisters Michelle and Jaqueline. I decided Serge had to be queer because duh everyone had to be queer. 3- i fell in love with his story so much that the girl doesn't even exist anymore, the story is not told by a random girl in the future, sorry 12 yo me lmao.

I like my style of writing, most of the time. I love when metaphores just work, i love love love to write so much UGH. i would change probably my inability for world building rip

Oh my god, from my main story no one. Maybe Jaqueline, who is the most normal of them all. Or i'd just give a 24 hours hug to Serge or Akthi, not because they deserve it, but they 100% need it.

Day 6

How long have you been writing your main WIP? How has your writing grown / developed over that time?

Are you proud of your current style? Why or why not? What’s one thing you do well and one thing you might want to change / improve?

If you could spend a day with any of your OCs, who would it be and why? What would you do?

Not a lot because I HATE IT. It's fun once you have it but its. so. hard. I'm so not good at it.

Random fact about my story: it's probably the only story i'm writing just for me, and not in the sense that i don't want anyone to read it, but in the sense that i'm trying to write only what i want to. I'm writing extremely queer characters. I'm writing a love story about two people who are clearly soulmates and will love eachother through literally everything. I'm writing angst (i love writing angst lol). I'm not worrying too much about the possible future people that will read it, and i'm not worrying too much about representing every single type of person in the world (which is impossible anyway, but still something that i always worry about - it's the queer fat femme in me, sorry-). This is not a random fact, this is a love letter to my story. Anyway

Sometimes, when i'm stuck or bored. But then usually i forget what i answered. Once, when i was re-reading, after a long time, one i answered about a story, i realized i said a character had a dog (which, after the story evolved, he didn't have) and that gave me the idea for his entire arc. So, yeah, sometimes they're useful lmao!

Day 5

How much do you worldbuild? Why that much?

What’s your favorite random fact about your story and/or characters?

Do you use character and worldbuilding questions when planning? Or do you just develop them as you go? Why or why not?

Lmao idk i guess every holiday that exists in the real world, since it's like set in France, in a random made up city in a un-specified period of the past

I write on my computer, usually with music blasting in my ears. Most of the time i need to be alone bc if not i can't concentrate. But if i'm writing notes on my phone, then everywhere is good. You gotta lock that idea before it disappears!

Both and it's a nightmare. I used to just dive in with just a vague idea of what i wanted to write (aka, just characters), and that didn't work very well. I've never finished a story. Now i try to plan it better, i still dive in, but then i keep thinking and planning and the story evolves and usually the first things i wrote doesn't end up in the story at all. I still haven't finished a story to this day, but i'm way closer than i've ever been :D

Day 4

What holidays, if any, exist in your story? Tell us about them! If you don’t have any, why not?

How do you like to write and why? What’s your setup? Do you need a specific environment to write in?

Are you a planner or a dive right in and hope for the best kind of writer? What do you like about your style / why?

I have one scene i really love, but at the end it doesn't fit in the story AND I'M SO BUMMED OUT ABOUT THAT. I had even already made art about it, like look at this shit:

I Have One Scene I Really Love, But At The End It Doesn't Fit In The Story AND I'M SO BUMMED OUT ABOUT

what am i supposed to do with this now??

Yes! In this story is have i think a little bit of both. I have one character that lies a lot (but we don't know it till half of the story) and i decided to have him put his hands on his pockets everytime he lies. Just a little detail i like, i don't know if it's either of those things but its cool. Also i put an incredible foreshadow in the story at one point that i can't really explain rn without spoilering everything and also explaining a lot of lore, but its very good i swear lmfao

Usually i come up with the basics: who is the main character, where and when does he live, the premise aka why are we doing this in the first place, then some ideas come, i draw all the characters to have a better grasp on them, and then i write, then i draw, and then i write again, back and forth.

Day 3

What’s your favorite scene you’ve written? Why is that one your favorite?

Do you use symbolism and/or foreshadowing often? Why or why not? If so, give an example if you’d like.

What is your process like when coming up with a story?

A two panelled image of Terence McKenna sitting in the drivers seat of a car. In the first panel, McKenna says "Write it badly, dude" and in the second panel he adds "but write it" with a radial blur and zoom effect. I edited this image - the original version said "take it easy, dude. But take it". Now in slightly higher quality

Telling myself this every day so here's a meme

To read, I think what i crave most in books is comfort, judging my favorite books of all time: The Eye Of The Wolf -L'œil du loup- by D. Pennac (fav childhood book, still holds, still comfort me like no other), Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (do i even have to say anything?) and Death on Credit -Mort à crédit- by L.F. Celine (just. majestic. incredible. don't expect comfort tho, its the messiest angstiest thing i've ever read, but still full of the most gentle love for life ever that almost made me cry at the end). And yes, i think it's my favorite to write too. Even in the angstiest situations, i need to put all the comfort possible <3

Everything i look at inspires me. For my current wip, the main inspirations were Resevoir Dogs by Tarantino, i think Hannibal (the show) and also probably my obsession: Gotham (the show (the one that kind of sucks)). Yes i know i just wrote a paragraph about comfort and then i mention these three very not comfortable media shut up

Oh no okay. From my current wip, definetly Akthi:

To Read, I Think What I Crave Most In Books Is Comfort, Judging My Favorite Books Of All Time: The Eye

He is my baby, i love him. I don't know why i love him so much, but i do. He's layered, complicated, and i find him very interesting. At first glance he is a walking contraddicion: he's not loyal at all, but he also is; he's not trustworthy, but he's also the only one you can really trust; he's not a loving guy at all, but he will shower you with love; he's outgoing and silly and always around people, but he actually hates everyone (literally); he's chilled out and cool, but he has never lets himself take a moment to breathe. And in some magic way i think it actually makes sense for him to be that way (but no spoilers eheh)

Day 2

What’s your favorite genre to read and why? Is it your favorite to write, too? Why or why not?

What media, if any, has inspired you? How?

Do you have a favorite character of yours? Who is it and why?

I'm not too sure. I think Daniel Pennac's books are what did the trick. I loved his books so much when i was little, they shaped me in the person i am today. My favorite was and will always be The Eye Of The Wolf. It's such a awesome book with so much softness and love for humanity and the world, it's just too wholesome. Fun fact, my nickname is from one of his books! Sigma is a character of his (from a different book tho)

I actually did. Me and my brother wrote together a scenography that he had as an assignment for school. It was incredibly fun, he had most of the plot already in mind and i am more used to writing and how to build a story, so it worked extremely well! We started the silliest project after that too: a fanfic/rewrite of a completely unknown fairytale, but make it completely insane. 10/10, except we have been stuck on chapter 4 for two years lol

Oh hell yeah, way too many. From the top of my head i can say: queer people forming a found family, sad people meeting and making everything better for one another by simply existing, sassy bickering between friends/sibilings, stars/star-gazing as a symbol of (romantic) love, happy ending - even tho i don't think everyone would agree on that one -, moon x sun ships, chaotic duos, slow burn and omg i'm gonna stop here because we're never gonna stop if we don't stop here. Just a lot of love all around, always

Day 1

What inspired you to start writing?

Have you ever co-written something? Why or why not?

What are some reoccurring themes or tropes in your writing?
