i don't understand the recent "how often do men think of the roman empire" trend. one of the most well-known recent academic and popular historians of the roman empire is a woman, mary beard. why do this? it isn't cute or funny if you think about the implications for more than five seconds

So Arizona launched an “education hotline” that allows “concerned parents” to report “””critical race theory””” and other things like ~gender identity~ being taught in the classroom

It would be a shame if the number and email were spread to bad actors looking to prank call the AZ Department of Education

602-771-3500 or empower @ azed .gov 🤡

azfamily.com
Horne said two staff members are sorting through the calls, and two investigators are working on credible leads.

Which Search Engine Is Best For Academic Research? Hint: It's Not Wikipedia

PubMed

PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health–both globally and personally.

The PubMed database contains more than 34 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. It does not include full-text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC).

Available to the public online since 1996, PubMed was developed and is maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

G'day! Lets do 📍🗑️📖 for the ask game <3

Hello hello, tysm for the ask!! <3

🗑️ have you always wanted to be in your field? what was your “almost-field?

already answered this question here, but TLDR: i never really had a dream field, and my almost field was something along the lines of computer science

📖 a book/reading from your field you’d recommend/really enjoyed?

uuuh okay, i never really read many books in my field. Im currently using Physics in Nuclear Medicine to study for my radiation class, and im really enjoyed it so far. it's really easy to read, and explains everything so well, even if you don't remember all the basic formulas and concepts.

Also, Stuart's Calculus was really fun, tho i only read a couple chapters

📍 an academic pet peeve of yours?

ARGHHHH this literally happened to me today. FUCKIN. MEN. INTERRUPTING. YOU. AS. IF. THEY. HAVE. MORE. IMPORTANT. THINGS. TO. SAY. THAN. YOU. i know this happens in all fields, but omg some STEM men are just so awful, today this guy was interrupting me so much during class when the professor asked ME to speak, that eventually the professor had to ask him to shut up (which was even more surprising bc he's so his favorite student)

Also, med students belittling my medicine subjects. we're literally learning the same thing, bestie. and even if we weren't, you don't see me mocking your joke of math's class (this is mostly a Portugal problem tbh, we still act like med students are gods)

and lastly, constants in physics being called K, like all of them. and other naming mistakes in variables, like kinetic energy sometimes being T??? and frequency being a weird ass greek letter that looks like a v

anyways, sorry for the huge post, i loved answering those questions <3
