Is Cape Point the southernmost point of Africa? The southernmost point in Africa is Cape Agulhas, about 150 km further to the south-east. Only when you had passed this "Cape of Storms", as Bartalomeu Dias called it in 1488, could you speak of a successful crossing. Für die früheren Seefahrer war jedoch das Kap der Wendepunkt für ihre großen Seefahrten Richtung Indien. Erst wenn man dieses “Kap der Stürme”, wie Bartalomeu Dias es 1488 nannte, passiert hatte, konnte man von einer erfolgreichen Passierung sprechen. Das Kap der guten Hoffnung auf der Kaphalbinsel südlich von Kapstadt zählt zu den magischsten Plätzen der Welt.  

In the middle of the Namib Desert, in the Namib Naukluft Park, there are two scenic highlights of Namibia: the Sossusvlei and the Deadvlei. The Namib, which means "great emptiness" in the Hottentot language, is the oldest desert in the world and stretches along the coast of Namibia over a length of 1,300 kilometers (north-south) and a width of about 120 kilometers (east- West).
