The origin of the village happened in an unhurried African manner: In 1929 a certain Major Hentie van der Merwe found a fresh water spring at the mouth of the Omaruru River, spent his holiday here and caught fish. In the years to follow he regularly returned taking along friends for fishing and relaxation and one hut was followed by some more, followed by a campsite and eventually the town developed.

Today Henties Bay, situated 70 km north of Swakopmund, has about 5,000 permanent inhabitants. This number ten folds during the coastal high season (Christmas / New Year). Henties Bay is a popular holiday town and a paradise for fishermen, especially favoured by South Africans. Fishing takes first place and all possible features for fishing tourism are being offered, for example shark fishing and boat angling trips.

Die Entstehung des Ortes geschah ganz afrikanisch gemütlich: Ein gewisser Major Hentie van der Merwe entdeckte im Jahr 1929 an der Mündung des Flusses Omaruru eine Süßwasserquelle, verbrachte hier seine Ferien und angelte. In den Folgejahren kam er immer wieder hierher und brachte auch Freunde zum Angeln und Erholen mit, so dass aus einer Bretterbude mehrere Bretterbuden, dann ein Campingplatz und schließlich eine Stadt wurde. 

Heute leben in Henties Bay, ca. 70 km nördlich von Swakopmund, 5.000 ständige Einwohner. Deren Zahl verzehnfacht sich in der Küsten-Haupt-Ferienzeit (also Weihnachten/Neujahr). Henties Bay ist ein beliebter Ferienort und Anglerparadies, vor allem bei den Südafrikanern. Der Angelsport steht hier an erster Stelle und es werden für den Angel-Tourismus alle erdenklichen Features angeboten, so kann man z.B. Hai-Angeln und weitere Bootsangeltouren unternehmen.

The Cape of Good Hope is a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa. A common misconception is that the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa. This misconception was based on the misbelief that the Cape was the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Contemporary geographic knowledge instead states the southernmost point of Africa is Cape Agulhas about 150 kilometres to the east-southeast. The currents of the two oceans meet at the point where the warm-water Agulhas current meets the cold-water Benguela current and turns back on itself. That oceanic meeting point fluctuates between Cape Agulhas and Cape Point (about 1.2 kilometres) east of the Cape of Good Hope. Cape Point, a World Heritage Site, and protected Nature Reserve is an area of vast natural beauty, world renown for it natural vegetation and rich bio-diversity. Part of the Table Mountain National Park that extends from Signal Hill in the north all the way to Cape Point in the south. This said, the Cape of Good Hope is one of two world-renowned landmarks within the Table Mountain National Park, the other is Table Mountain. These two familiar attractions are what draws thousands of visitors to Cape Town. Most visitors to Cape Town regard a trip to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point (the tip of the Cape peninsula) as obligatory. This part of the park is home to an array of fynbos, over 250 species of birds, buck, baboons and Cape mountain zebra. There are numerous picnic spots, paths on which one can set off on foot or mountain bike, and tidal pools on almost isolated beaches.

Dieses Missverständnis beruhte auf dem Irrglauben, dass das Kap der Trennungspunkt zwischen dem Atlantik und dem Indischen Ozean sei. Zeitgenössisches geografisches Wissen besagt stattdessen, dass der südlichste Punkt Afrikas das Kap Agulhas ist, etwa 150 Kilometer östlich-südöstlich. Die Strömungen der beiden Ozeane treffen sich an dem Punkt, an dem der Warmwasser-Agulhas-Strom auf den Kaltwasser-Benguela-Strom trifft. Dieser ozeanische Treffpunkt schwankt zwischen Cape Agulhas und Cape Point (ca. 1,2 km) östlich des Kaps der Guten Hoffnung. Cape Point, ein Weltkulturerbe und geschütztes Naturschutzgebiet, ist ein Gebiet von großer natürlicher Schönheit, weltbekannt für seine natürliche Vegetation und seine reiche biologische Vielfalt. Das Kap der Guten Hoffnung ist Teil des Tafelberg-Nationalparks, der sich vom Signal Hill im Norden bis nach Cape Point im Süden erstreckt.  Das Kap der Guten Hoffnung ist eines von zwei weltbekannten Wahrzeichen im Nationalpark Tafelberg, das andere ist der Tafelberg. Diese beiden bekannten Attraktionen ziehen Tausende von Besuchern nach Kapstadt. Die meisten Besucher Kapstadts betrachten eine Reise zum Kap der Guten Hoffnung und nach Cape Point (der Spitze der Kaphalbinsel) als obligatorisch. In diesem Teil des Parks wächst eine Reihe von Fynbos, über 250 Vogelarten, Antilopen, Paviane und Kapbergzebras. Es gibt zahlreiche Picknickplätze und Wege, auf denen man zu Fuß oder mit dem Mountainbike losfahren kann, sowie Gezeitenbecken an fast einsamen Stränden.

Watch the action as Naankuse's R.R.U. (Rapid Response Unit) were called to assist in the relocation of several desert-adapted lions from the north-east, Kunene region, of Namibia. These lions were severely malnourished and in their bid to survive against hunger & starvation they had come into conflict with local communities. The Naankuse Foundation is an NGO which strives to protect the landscape, wildlife & cultures of Namibia for future generations.

Naankuses Rettungseinheit  R.R.U. (Rapid Response Unit) wurde gerufen, um bei der Umsiedlung mehrerer an die Wüste angepasster Löwen aus dem Nordosten der Kunene-Region Namibias zu helfen. Diese Löwen waren stark unterernährt und in ihrem Bemühen, gegen Unterernährung und Verhungern zu überleben, waren sie in Konflikt mit den lokalen Gemeinschaften geraten. Die Naankuse Foundation ist eine NGO, die sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, die Landschaft, Tierwelt und Kulturen Namibias für zukünftige Generationen zu schützen.

Katutura is a township of Windhoek in Namibia. Katutura is Otjiherero for “The place where we do not want to live”. Katutura was created in 1961 as an aftermath of the forced removal of Windhoek’s black population from the Old Location, which later was developed into the suburb of Hochland Park. The Windhoek municipality and the South African colonial administration decided to forcefully move the residents of the Old Location 8 kilometres to the north of the city. Sam Nujoma Stadium, built in 2005, is located within Katutura. Katutura Community Radio, a community-based radio station, also operates from the township as well Katutura State Hospital, one of two State Hospitals in the Windhoek area.

Katutura wurde 1961 als Folge der erzwungenen Umsiedelung der schwarzen Bevölkerung von Windhoek aus dem Bereich gegründet, der später zum Vorort des Hochlandparks ausgebaut wurde. Die Gemeinde Windhoek und die südafrikanische Kolonialverwaltung beschlossen, die Bewohner 8 Kilometer nördlich der Stadt gewaltsam anzusiedeln. Das 2005 erbaute Sam Nujoma Stadium befindet sich in Katutura. One of the most beguiling creatures on earth, the Namib dune gecko, otherwise known as the palmato gecko or web-footed gecko, is a lot tougher than it appears to be. This small desert reptile, which only grows to about 13cm long, is in fact supremely adapted to its arid environment – so specialised that it only occurs in the Namib Desert. The skin of this gecko has a translucent look, with some of the internal organs almost visible beneath its surface, creating an illusion of ghostlike fragility, while delicate salmon undertones and light brown markings add to its visual appeal.

The most outstanding feature of the Namib dune gecko are its big, appealing, unblinking eyes which are lidless, like those of all geckos. As a nocturnal animal, these large eyes give it a panoramic view of its surroundings. The gecko has also learnt to take advantage of the constant fog in these parts, harvesting water from the atmosphere by allowing moisture to condense on its large eyeballs. Once a few drops have accumulated, the gecko licks its eyes clean with its tongue to claim this precious liquid as its own.

Dieses kleine Wüstenreptil, das nur etwa 13 cm lang wird, ist tatsächlich hervorragend an seine trockene Umgebung angepasst – so spezialisiert, dass er nur in der Namib-Wüste vorkommt. Die Haut dieses Geckos hat ein durchscheinendes Aussehen, wobei einige der inneren Organe unter ihrer Oberfläche fast sichtbar sind, was eine Illusion von geisterhafter Zerbrechlichkeit erzeugt, während zarte lachsfarbene Untertöne und hellbraune Markierungen zu seiner Attraktivität beitragen.Das herausragendste Merkmal des Namib-Dünengeckos sind seine großen, ansprechenden, nicht blinzelnden Augen, die wie bei allen Geckos ohne Lider sind. Als nachtaktives Tier geben ihm diese großen Augen einen Panoramablick auf seine Umgebung. Der Gecko hat gelernt, den ständigen Nebel in diesen Teilen zu nutzen, indem er die Feuchtigkeit auf seinen großen Augäpfeln kondensieren lässt. Wenn sich einige Tropfen angesammelt haben, leckt sich der Gecko mit der Zunge die Augen sauber, um das kostbare Nass für sich zu nutzen.

The brand-new Jack’s Camp pays homage to the property’s enduring and much-loved 1940s campaign style. The guest tents, seven twins and two doubles, are much larger and each is 270 square metres in size. The iconic interiors remain and are embellished with rich textiles from around the world, Natural History Museum cabinets, and an overhead bed cooling system. Ensuite bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers and outside, each veranda has a private plunge pool. The new, larger mess tent is resplendent with the renowned Natural History Museum, library, antique pool table and a well-stocked drinks chest. The iconic nomadic Persian tea tent has been made larger and the shop has been renovated and restocked with new treasures.

Das brandneue Jack's Camp ist eine Hommage an den dauerhaften und beliebten Kampagnenstil der 1940er Jahre. Die Gästezelte, sieben Twin und zwei Doppelzimmer, sind deutlich größer und haben jeweils eine Größe von 270 Quadratmetern. Die Innenräume bleiben erhalten und werden mit edlen Textilien aus der ganzen Welt, Schränken des Naturhistorischen Museums und einem Kühlsystem über dem Bett verschönert. Die eigenen Badezimmer verfügen über Innen- und Außenduschen und draußen hat jede Veranda ein privates Tauchbecken. Das neue, größere Hauptzelt glänzt mit dem renommierten Naturkundemuseum, einer Bibliothek, einem antiken Billardtisch und einer gut sortierten Getränkekiste. Das persische Nomaden-Teezelt wurde vergrößert, der Shop wurde renoviert und mit neuen Schätzen aufgefüllt.
