Aighto, time to dive back into @candlecoo-sideb-art's Somewhere Else (In Space) AU! Stickin' to the trend, here's candelcoo's rendition of Jonny d'Ville! This one was a bit more of a push against my current skill level, as I tried to experiment with how candlecoo did their eye design; no outline on the sclera and iris, white pupil and lines for the purpose of silhouettes. I chickened out on the eyebrow coloring, though, no excuse there. Compared to the make-up of the Jonny d'Ville outfit, I think I prefer these more marker-like lines. And just... the simplicity of the design itself. It reminds me of Minecraft skins and the amount you gotta thin down the design to its core details... feels like home. That, and the thin lines for these 'lightning marks' gives more of a vein-like feel, which helps if they're meant to be scars. Thinking of targeting Craniopagus characters next, or candlecoo's Toy Soldier, for no particular reason. I'm still thinking. Sorry for missing a day of eyes; I had a bit of a wild day. The resident Eye Lady promises a swift return!~

As promised in Jon's variant, here is my experiment into drawing Somewhere Else (In Space) AU in @candlecoo-sideb-art's art style! As stated in Jon's art, I felt kinda bad that I didn't choose to follow through in full-on emulating candlecoo's art style for their own characters. Felt a bit like I was losing the original feel of the characters too, so I would not let that stand. (Also, I needed an excuse to practice for my upcoming no-drawing-outlines assignment in my Animation degree.) I'm debating on which Craniopagus character to tackle next, but I'm thinking I wanna switch it up and draw someone I haven't done any art of yet. Perhaps Ivy? She has multiple eyes, so it would be fun! The resident Eye Lady makes no clear promises on swift returns but will try!

Bonus Round! Yog-Sothoth Residue Martin! I tried to capture the guttural fear that he would be inflicted with in the nightmares he has, but it's a bit hard to do so when the eyebrows can't properly join the frame lmao. The depiction of the swirl written in @therealandian's ReDeath / Search Through The Stars AU was sorta described as (from rough memory) "greenish oranges and yellowed purples" or something of that sort, but I wanted to add blue as a way to show that Martin did regain his sense of self in the aftermath, and now fights to keep that identity in a way. Sure, it's hard, and he put himself back in the Institute's clutches to do it, but he's trying and we love him for that. It was quite fun to experiment with this, kinda half tempted to chuck one of my own AUs ocs into Yog-Sothoth for funsies (I wouldn't, its a funny idea tho). Tomorrow's releases are gonna be a bit more... interesting~. Have fun guessing who is next >:3!

Eye Lady Idea Dumps: The Buried = Permanent Ochre Production?

I forgot to finish the Ivy art and its nearly 1am so instead I repay you with a brain dump.

Rationale

Okay so apparently besides fears of being buried, crushed, suffocated etc, and having ties to Geomancy in general, one of the things The Buried apparently works on is 'being at the centre of everything and it is all pushing down.' (Source: The Buried's wikia page) Not only did this smack me square in the gut and leave me silently questioning my own ideas on what Entity would get me (or more what besides The Eye would get me), but now I have a fun idea;

Buried Avatar Idea

Art student from a prestigious art school who got in on scholarship. They are terrified of getting kicked out if they are not 'good enough', so they pour their heart and soul into every art. Their parents wanted them to go into a 'stable career', and pressure them when they come home to switch degrees (they never do). Their friends are more extroverted and successful compared to them, and the social games are wearing on their soul. They fear one slip up will bring it all crashing down, and they will have to return to their parents and 'let them win'

They have a mental breakdown and drive to a nearby forestry known for its deep caves and dense forests.

The art student encounters The Buried in their trek, and despite their fear, they choose to embrace the suffocating feeling of being trapped within it, Becoming. They emerge from the caves with a renewed love for the natural world, and confidence within themselves that with their newfound power, they can prevent the collapse of their new life. Their powers become focused on ochre pigment, committing a Barbie 'Rapunzel' and make paintings that take them places. These paintings eclipse anyone else's with their beauty and intricacies, gaining them more scholarships and even a place in an art gallery. Unbeknownst to all, they get Buried juice by using these artworks to bring the experience of The Buried to those who gaze upon them for too long, taking them to the cave they Became in an attempt to help others just as stressed as they were break free from their fear... in a sense. Yet, five years later with a successful art career, they struggle with the idea of someone finding out about their new power and destroying all they had worked for, thus drawing the attention of a student from a new graduate from a Law school, and an international student who happens upon their most powerful painting in a museum... ...actually, I kinda like this brain wave. I have an idea-

I kinda felt bad lying in bed after drawing the Somewhere Else (In Space) AU dudes, and only doing a canon art style emulation for Jonny. It just felt like I was kinda cheating out on my own learning opportunities, and given I need to draw in a no-clear-line style for an assessment... Probs best to practice on the eyes. After posting my Martin versions, its more than likely I'll tackle Craniopagus characters, and leave candlecoo's Toy Soldier for another day. I may cave, we'll see. Get jumpscared y'all, we're back to Jon! More specifically, the Jon of @candlecoo-sideb-art's Somewhere Else (In Space) AU! I do not know why, but the idea of the Fears in the Mechanism universe is something that slightly unnerves me, but luckily, we have two resident traumatized folks to help out. I kinda went and experimented with his pupils specifically, given that candlecoo's pupil style is to make them white instead of black, which actually helps with bringing attention to the eyes oddly enough. I instead added the white pupil to his Eye power usage (and have it somewhat eclipse his iris like a cat's pupil), as it gives a sort of 'inhuman' feel against the art style I got going. That and I'm a coward who refuses to break tradition sometimes. Overall, I love the AU that they are forming and the shenanigans that could ensue excite me to no end. Maybe I just have a thing for Magnus blorbos meeting Mechanism dummies in their own space, who knows. Anyway, there will be another art from this verse a bit later on in the day, and then I'm jumping back into Redeath/Search Through the Stars to tackle a few of the ocs 👀 (if you've read it, you might know who is on the agenda).
