after the second rebellion, an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow panem’s government, the districts are once again subject to the notorious hunger games. except, this time, the games have been given a little twist. now faced with the possibility of having two victors from the same district return home, two district 7 tributes are forced to overcome their life-long rivalry to make it out in one piece.

Yuta’s legs were crossed one over the other. He looked bored, examining his fingernails and taking sips of his whiskey, ignoring Chenle and I as we sat across from him. Joohyun, the woman who drew our names at this morning’s Reaping, had told us that Yuta was our mentor and had wanted to formally meet us. Now, I realized that she had probably wanted to get us off her hands. Delivering two teenagers to die must be a difficult feat, no matter how flashy and pink your hair was.

Outside, the trees turned into blurs of green and brown against the sky. Today, it was a bright blue with few clouds to dot its surface. I rested my fingertips on the glass, tracing the outline of the clouds like I did when I was a child. I used to laugh when I did it, then. Now, I held back a sob. What if these were the last real clouds I saw? Would the Gamemakers put clouds in the sky of our arena? Would they at least give us that?

WRITTEN PART:

You sighed once more. For being in an amusement park, you were definitely not amused at all. You glanced at Chenle’s laughing figure next to his friend Jisung, then at Haechan and Mark proudly walking hand in hand, then at Jeno and Renjun talking with Jaemin and seemingly getting along very well, you felt so out of this. It was good that Jeno found a new person to be interested in.

You were almost certain he had a crush on you but sadly you couldn’t imagine yourself dating him, even if you were good friends.  That’s all you’d ever be. Friends. However, right now it seemed as if you weren’t even that since all of your friends seemed to have forgotten your existence. You felt someone nudge you and you turn to look at them, your eyes meeting Mark’s.

“Are you okay? You’re not afraid of roller coasters, right?” He asked and you softly smiled. Of course Haechan would fall for him. He was sweet to everyone. You shook your head ‘no’ at him and gave him a small smile back. “I’m okay, no need to worry.” You said and patted his shoulder.

“Let’s go!” Haechan yelled excitedly and dragged Mark from the arm. You glanced at Renjun or Jeno, to see which one would sit with you, most likely expecting Renjun to join you. However you had forgotten that Renjun hates heights. So when you saw him and Jisung leaving the line and refusing to get on the roller coaster you knew that you were doomed. Jeno seemed too into his own world with Jaemin to realise that Chenle and you were the only two left.

Only when the man fixed Jeno’s and Jaemin’s seatbelts did Jeno realise what happened and he turned to you with an apologetic look on his face which you dismissed by scoffing. This was either planned, or a big red flag about your friends.

The same man asked if you’d be joining or if he’d let someone else in, but before you could ask Chenle if he wanted to skip it, he grabbed your arm and walked towards the seats. “I don’t like you, but I like roller coasters.” He mumbled. “I don’t like you either and I like roller coasters too.” You mimicked him and he glared at you, before looking in front. Only then did you realise that you were in the front seats.

“Chenle likes front seats and Jeno told me you like front seats too, so we sat here on purpose!” Jaemin said with a smile as if he had fixed everything. You just sighed at him and focused on the roller coaster ride that just started.

As the roller coaster was going up, you could hear Haechan scream from somewhere behind and Mark laughing at him. Jeno was panicking and little and you remembered he didn’t have the best relationship with roller coasters either, which made you question why they decided to come here. Chenle let an excited screech from next to you which made you chuckle. You had to admit it was funny seeing him like this.

The ride was over soon and you really enjoyed it, even if you had Chenle next to you. The rest of the day went by quickly, you went on many different rides and soon it was time to go.

As your two groups parted, Haechan gave Mark a dramatic goodbye kiss that made the poor boy blush.

“Sorry for making you sit with Chenle on that ride. I forgot Renjun doesn’t like roller coasters and thought that he was sitting with you.” Jeno said and you waved your hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it. I enjoyed the ride nonetheless.”

“You seemed not to want to rip Chenle’s head off today” Renjun commented and you glared at him.

“I didn’t, since he was surprisingly not annoying, but that doesn’t mean I liked having him around.”  You said making the others shrug. However, for some reason you felt like you actually didn’t mind having him around.
