I’m a broke college student who’s sent in numerous applications to places that either reject or ignore me bc I have no experience/have a college student work schedule

The smell of vodka sauce fills the space around me, and I know that I am home. Here, where there are slowly dying flowers drifting apart on the dining room table and a speaker playing old love songs on the counter next to me. There, where all of us gathered around a bonfire in a stranger’s backyard to enjoy poorly cooked burgers and the best Mac and cheese I think I will ever make. Home is not one person, no, that will change every few years when someone grows tired of me and the next person swoops in to fill their spot. It is the ability to share joy with whomever I am with in the moment, to set my past fears aside with a soft kiss to their foreheads, and let myself feel at peace for a few hours. It is cooking for someone and seeing their smile widen after they take the first bite. I have realized that I am alive to share, to provide. Let me feed you, let me sing for you, let me etch your likeness on a page. Let me write about you. I am alive to immortalize you, and it will make me immortal, too.
