“so what do i do?” you ask, looking down at the nearly wrapped joint mark holds in his hands below you. 

thumbing the remaining centimeter or so of the paper wrap, he directs, “you wanna lick it? just one clean line, it’ll, like, help it stick and stuff.”

you look up at him, uncertain. “i might fuck it up.”

he laughs, tilting his head to the side slightly before tilting it back up again. “dude, you won’t. and if you do, we’ll just wrap it up again. i just want you to try.”

“okay, fine,” you concede, shifting on your crossed legs to lean down to where he holds the joint, awfully close to his lap on the edge of his knee. 

he doesn’t know what you do. perhaps it’s the way you rest your arms on either side of you, or the way your back arches when you lean down, or the way your tongue darts out, ever so gently to lick a clean line across the wrap. he swears he felt your tongue on his thumb. it might even be the way you look up at him through your lashes, desperate for reassurance that you’re on the right track.

mark takes a shaky breath before carefully wrapping the joint up. he tries to clear his throat as he searches for his lighter, and isn’t helped when you find it sitting on his side table and your fingers brush his when you hand it to him. 

he’s all nervous suddenly, feeling a concerning tightness grow in his pants. and when you confidently take the joint from him and hold it in your mouth for him to light, he feels as though he’s found himself in a dream — one he wouldn’t dare wake up from.
