Heavy clouds had been cloaking the moody sky for days. Ottilie had enough of this city: a busted lead that voided her latest contract, no room in any inn, the stupid clouds... She was on her way to join a carriage leaving for Karth in a couple of hours, and she couldn't help but feel grateful for it.

And now, whether as a last mockery or a goodbye, it was raining.

Rain. To hell with this.

Otti removed her hood and let her hair down. Just this once, she let the rain soak her through.

Rain was melancholy and sadness and nostalgia. Rain was droplets falling gently off the pine needles in the forest surrounding the Spire. Rain was holding a hot cup of tea and looking out the window while Cenric was reading old records and history books. Rain was a bit of home.

And just this once, just for today, she allowed herself to feel it all.

My main gift for @wayfarer-exchange; a fic centered on @euelios‘ darling (former) aristocratic melusine, Kiran Hesperus! Kiran was a delight to write. and this idea was even more of a delight to plan/put in motion. I love Kiran’s nervous energy, his leftover aristocratic pride and his whole vibe just fucks. I must also thank you for indulging my backstory/Rona questions and providing all sorts of details I needed to complete this! I love me some aristocratic little dudes. I hope you like it Auden <3

For the first time in what feels like days, it doesn’t rain in the morning. If you could even call this passageway between night and day a morning. It’s a time where Kiran should be asleep, curled to avoid the smallness of the wretched space he and Aeran could afford. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, his head decided he’s had enough rest, and it propels him into wakefulness faster than he would like.

Early morning rays fight through the old wooden panel that covers their window and lands on the spot where Aeran left Taraniel last night. Kiran turns on his pallet, looking at the window. There’s no rain, he thinks again. Maybe they’ll get a job out of the day, despite how strangely it started.
