Synopsis: Wakasa reminiscences about the greatest love of his life
For @/k-ryuuguji 's Valentine's Day collab!

“Do you wanna hear the greatest love story of all time?” Wakasa smiled down at you, his mind flashing back to the duration of your relationship.
It was the same cheesy story he always told this time of year. When the snow wasn't as compacted to the ground, and roses were being bred and made into beautiful bouquets for lovers to give to one another. It was the time of year that always tugged at his heart.
Because this time of year is when he met you.
Everytime he told this story, he could picture it perfectly. When he closed his eyes, the memories of you two danced behind his lids like a movie playing on a screen. He was the only one in the audience, cherishing each frame as they passed him by.
It was cold out, even bundled in a nice and warm jacket. You could see the heat from your breath each time you exhaled, watching it dissipate into the chilled air as you grew impatient. You weren't surprised that the blind date your friend had set you up on had flaked. Really, who could be all that interested in someone who was lonely enough to ask for a blind date? You didn't blame them one bit, especially on Valentine's Day.
Your teeth chattered and your body shivered as you decided to stop waiting. Couples were out and about, cuddled into each other for warmth. You averted your gaze, keeping your head ducked to avoid making any eye contact with the people passing you by. Your shoes lightly scraped the ground, the noise going unheard as everyone around you laughed and talked amongst themselves.
For a moment, you pulled yourself out of self pity. You were still young, you still had plenty of time to fall in love truly. Besides, it's not like you needed to have a romantic partner. Really, you just didn't want to spend the holiday alone. Honestly, who could blame you? It was easy to get lost in the thought of being loved. To be held by someone like they were going to lose you if they let go or didn’t hold you close enough. You wanted a love that consumed every fiber of your being, the type of love you didn’t think you’d ever find.
That was, until you ran right into him.
It was like running into a wall, nearly sending you crashing to the cold concrete. The person caught you by the wrist, yanking you back up before you embarrassed yourself even more.
“I am so sorry,” You rushed out, looking up to see a man your age with the prettiest eyes you had ever had the pleasure of looking into.
He looked down at you, his expression bored as he let you go, “You ought to be more careful. You could’ve gotten hurt.”
“Yeah,” You pulled your jacket around you tighter, teeth chattering again from nerves. “Thanks for helping me not look like an idiot.”
He frowned, pulling the sucker he had between his teeth from his mouth, “You’re freezing. C’mon, let’s stop and get some tea? Chatime is right up the street.”
You gave him a quizzical glance, “Forgive me if I don’t immediately want to go off with a man I just met.”
As soon as the words left your mouth, you almost laughed. Wasn’t that why you were out in the first place? To go on a blind date with a man you had never met before? You could have what you wanted, to not be alone.
The man raised an eyebrow, “You’re in the middle of gang territory, Sweetheart. Plus, it’s Valentine's Day. Someone as pretty as you shouldn’t have to spend it alone.”
To think the best adventure of your life started that cold night. It was a wonderful thing, to find something like that by chance.
The day led to late night motorcycle rides, mid-day dates at Chatime, and early morning breakfasts in bed. Days and weeks turned into months and years, melting together as did the two of you. The instant connection the two of you had was like finding the missing piece of the puzzle and snapping it perfectly into place.
The first time you two confessed your feelings for each other was also around this time of year.
The two of you sat curled up on your couch as you waited for the ball to drop for the signal of New Years. A blanket was draped around both of your shoulders, you leaning into his arms, almost falling asleep. You did this every year, claiming you could stay up when you really couldn't.
He kissed the top of your head, “You're falling asleep again, angel. You said you could stay up.”
“Hush,” you lazily put a finger up to his lips. “No talking.”
The chuckle that reverberated from his chest lightly shook your body, “You're a brat.”
You lifted your head, looking up at him with a playful glare, “But I'm your brat, and you love me.”
Love. It wasn't something he thought about often. As of late, though, he was thinking about his feelings for you and what they meant. You were right too. He did love you. Being around you felt like home to him, your arms keeping him safe and warm.
“How’d you know that?” He questioned, his tone full of amusement.
You shrugged, as if it were no big deal, “I can tell by your eyes, babe.”
The way you could visibly see him cheer up when you entered a room, or just the simplicity of watching his eyes shine when he looked into yours. It was a beautiful thing to be able to witness. Everyone always talked about how someone looked when they were in love, but nobody ever talked about seeing it yourself.
“You're so in love with me.”
Wakasa smiled lightly, bending down and placing a light kiss on your lips, “You’re right. But, I also know that you're in love with me as well.
Cold hands wrapped around his as he reminisced, holding him tightly as he started to tear up. He recalled all the drunk nights with you and the guys, laughing at nothing as you stared up at the stars. At the time, you'd both been young and drunk in love. But, he wouldn't trade it for the world. In his eyes, your story would never compare to anyone else’s.
He sighed, recalling the night he finally worked up the courage to propose.
“When are you going to ask her?” Shinichiro’s question had been scratching at his mind for weeks. Driving him insane as he felt the ring in his pocket getting heavier with each passing day.
It was never the right moment. It never would be the right moment, he'd come to learn. It would be the perfect moment.
Valentine's day had once again come around, and he’d spent a whole afternoon with Benkei trying to formulate a plan. That was when he got the idea to relive your first date. The day you two had met.
You didn't see it coming. Not as you sat down im Chatime, lightly sipping away at your boba tea. Nerves started to get the best of him as he reached into his pocket. He didn't know why he was so anxious, as you two had been together for four years at this point in time.
But, Wakasa finally pulled the box from his jeans and placed it down on the table. He slid it across, as far as his hand could reach. His eyes found yours, lazy as always but full of anticipation.
“Can I tell you a wonderful thing?” He asked you, keeping his hand where it was. “You know I love you, Y/N. Would you do me the honor of your hand in marriage?”
He opened the box, revealing the small ring inside that he had been toting around with him for weeks. Your mouth fell as you stared at it, glancing back up at him as tears began to well up in your eyes. Taking the jewelry from the box, you gave your answer as you slid it over your ring finger.
After that, everything had become blurred. Your wedding, your honeymoon, the start of your little family when you told him you were expecting and came home with a small kitten on the same day. As much as he wanted to be mad at you, he knew he couldn't.
The day your son entered the world, a lot changed. Wakasa picked up more hours at the shop with Shin to keep income steady while you stayed home with the baby. You were more stressed, running on empty for weeks before you could get the infant to sleep through the night. Then when Shinichiro passed and Wakads took over the shop entirely you took up not only balancing the baby, but also the books.
But, just like everything the two of you faced, the two of you worked through it instead of falling apart. You grew stronger, you fit better, and never lost the love you had found years ago.
However, there were just some things the two of you just couldn't work through, no matter how hard the two of you tried.
With shaking hands you entered the house. For a bit now, you had been feeling terrible. At first you thought that you were simply stressed, but then rethought once you realized that there were other signs that just weren't normal.
So, you made an appointment and went to see what exactly was wrong. You and Wakasa were both hopeful to have another new addition to the family. But, when you walked through the door without a small animal in your hands, his face fell.
“Y/N?” He questioned once he saw the melancholy look upon your features. “What’s wrong? What did the doctor say?”
You let out a sigh, he stood up and walked over to you in a hurry. Concern had completely washed over him at the sight of you about to cry. His arms wrapped around you, holding you tightly as you broke down over the news. The two of you stood in the spot for a long time, wrapped in each other’s arms in silent comfort. Slowly, and then all at once, the two of you sank to the ground and allowed yourselves to let it all out.
The hands that held Wakasa’s only held on tighter when his light tears became sobs. Your touch was like a ghost to him. there but not quite. A phantom memory that he tried to desperately cling to. Big doe eyes that looked just like yours stared down at him in shock, not knowing what to do as he watched him cry.
Sometimes love and didn't always work. By choice or by force, it just didn't always have a happy ending. But, even though it still hurt years later, he had experienced everything he could've asked for. True love, a family, a place to call home.
“It's okay, dad,” The small voice cooed, squeezing Wakasa's hand tightly. “Please don't cry.”
Wakasa pulled him into his arms, holding him tightly to his chest as if he would lose him too. Wind whipped through the air, making his eyes hurt and tears burn even worse.
“Can you promise me something?” He muttered, kissing the top of his son’s head. “That you’ll never forget mom loved you, and me. Even though can do terrible things, she was the greatest thing that ever happened to me.”
The young boy nodded, “I promise.”
Wakasa pulled away, wiping at his eyes quickly, “Let's go home, then.”
The child nodded, taking his father's outstretched hand before starting to walk to the car. Wakasa looked back, giving one last smile to the gravestone he was just at.
Life could do terrible things, but at least it had given him you.

A/N: This is twice now I have hurt Wakasa so here is my apology: im very sorry
