After Gale accuses Astarion of cheating at cards, the rogue picks up an interest in learning lanceboard to challenge the wizard at his game of preference. To sweeten the deal and make things more interesting, the two agree that the victor wins a favor from the loser. ~~
The quiet, slow deliberateness made in each move by Gale was gone now. Astarion had fallen into the wizard's trap and he was starting to see there would be no way out of it. All of the vampire's moves would be made out of a desperate clumsy attempt to protect his king and prolong its downfall. "Razor's Edge to queen's bishop two."
He continued his oration as he reached over, an index finger resting on a pawn. "Because sometimes, that small victory is enough to give them the momentum to keep going forward. The resolve of man to survive against all odds – fascinating, wouldn't you agree?" He moved the pawn diagonal, replacing Astarion's pawn with his own, inching ever so closer to the black side of the board. Once more, his bishop had a clear shot to his Cyric. "Pawn to queen's knight seven. Check."

Were those damn trousers always so snug on him? Astarion found a heat coil in his core as he stared on in awed silence.
"Astarion? Are you still there?"
"Oh, yes," he said as he moved forward, hovering a hand over Gale's hip. Astarion licked his lips. "This angle does suit you," Astarion purred. "It's tempting to not just…" He inched forward, slotting himself against Gale and grinding teasingly against him.

Summary: Gale had a habit of loving too intensely.
He had learned it was easier to bottle it up and let the emotions pass than admit them. And normally that would have been fine. It would become a temporary impediment to eventually get over —the affections would dwindle, and he would replace the object of his affection with something else.
Yet now, alongside the Netherese orb nestled in his chest and the mindflayer tadpole that wriggled behind his eye, the potent sussur flower had rooted itself in his lungs because of this love. And like his other afflictions, it was another problem that couldn't be solved with magic.
Needed a break from working on longfics to write a lil lich gale angst as a treat to myself. :)

WHAT’S THIS ABOUT A WEREWOLF SHAD X GALE!!!!
It was an idea I had set post-game events, where what if Shadowheart's lycanthropy was suppressed by the tadpole (sort of like how some of Astarion's vampirism traits were suppressed) !!! And Shadowheart was unaware she even had lycanthropy because of Shar purging her memories. So basically her and Gale uncovering this ahem new side to her 👀
I'm like, only 500 words into it so here's the tiniest snippet from it!!
This kiss of Selune be damned — it would have been more believable to assume the affliction was a curse bestowed upon her by the Lady of Loss.

Idea was from baldurskink. Post-academy / freshly deigned archmage Gale experimenting with a simulacrum and logicing himself through the whole thing as being Totally Normal And Acceptable Thing To Do, only for Mystra to take the reigns on the simulacrum. 😈 Like most my writing, the wip sort of evolved into a whole project so I've. ahem. just kind of put a temp hold on it
