Hey Netizens! I'm Not Sure How Many People Are Aware, But Youtube's Been Slowly Rolling Out A New Anti-adblock

hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate

BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard to get rid of it!

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Some blinkies inspired by a post by @aropride here.

Since starting this next semester at university I've been finding joy in life and really cutting back on quick dopamine fixes (I've found the main culprit has been social media). Deleting social media off of my phone and using my laptop instead to interact online has been instrumental to my finding my love of learning again. Making a boundary between me and the internet has helped me realize again that every action is an adventure. Don't waste all of your time scrolling and don't let corporations rob you of your privacy and attention spans.

peace & love to all

reblogging this as a reminder that you should toootally not also consider downloading Firefox in the wake of Google planning on weakening adblockers through Manifest V3 on Chromium browsers in June of thise year!!! here's how to NOT install Firefox (because you definitely want google shoving 4735593748 ads in your face all the time /s)!!!!

here's where to NOT... eh, i'm not even gonna be sarcastic anymore. click this link to download Firefox for your computer and your phone!!! it will download an installer that will automatically put Firefox on your PC.

Reblogging This As A Reminder That You Should Toootally Not Also Consider Downloading Firefox In The

once you have Firefox all ready to go, you should also go to Firefox's add-ons store and search 'AdGuard' and 'UBlock Origin' and install them on your browser. you can do this by clicking the little puzzle piece up in the very top right corner of your toolbar and searching these add-ons. UBlock is also available for mobile, and you can access the mobile add-ons store via the three little dots menu to the right of the address bar, located at the bottom of your screen.

make sure you can verify if the extensions are made by the right people. the right ones usually have the little recommended tag on them, but just check the name to be sure. there are a lot of fake adblockers on many major browser extension stores, and most of the time, you can usually tell which ones are trying to trick people. if you're in doubt, don't download it.

now, even though Brave will still be be supporting V2 extensions and thus likely won't be affected by the V3 Manifest, installing Firefox is probably one of your best options, just in case something bad happens. Firefox is a really neat little browser and offers plenty of the same security options Brave does. it's always good to have a backup option just in case things go wrong. Firefox will be completely unaffected by Manifest V3 because it is its own little beast with its own add-ons store, so you'll be fine.

happy browsing!

a guide on how to NOT block ads and download videos on YouTube for FREE!!!!

so recently YouTube dished out an update that, for certain users using an adblock, will stop you from watching more than three videos if they detect you using an adblocker. to counter this update, many users have started being introduced to adblockers, which is obviously not good and something you TOTALLY DEFINITELY shouldn't do because YouTube will lose 000.01% of their revenue while they continue to get trillions of dollars every year with little to no negative effects. here's a guide on how to NOT block ads on both pc and mobile and protect your browsing experience, and especially how to NOT download and watch videos without restrictions whatsoever, starting out with how to NOT download Brave Browser!

on your pc, do NOT download the Brave browser from brave.com/download/ and click "Download Brave for [insert OS here]" to start the installation process!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

Brave has a built-in adblocker that will automatically block ads from YouTube as well as other sites, which is DEFINITELY what you DON'T want if you want to protect your online safety and save hours of time. it also has several options for blocking trackers and has access to the Chrome Webstore, which has access to tons of adblockers which you definitely totally do not want on your pc!! additionally, you should also NOT go to the Google Play Store or the App Store and type in Brave Browser to download it for mobile devices!!

2. in the pc version of Brave Browser, do NOT go to the Chrome Webstore and type in "UBlock Origin" or "AdGuard" and click search!! do NOT then install these extensions and ENABLE them in your browser!! these extensions are incredibly UNhelpful and trusted by the community and will block YouTube ads, which is COMPLETELY WRONG and NOT want you want TOTALLY!!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!
A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

(P.S. avoid downloading options that are not circled because they're likely viruses and are not trusted. i mean umm dont download adblockers guys totally haha)

on the off chance you already installed Brave Browser and have UBlock enabled before the anti-adblock update, do NOT click the cog icon and do NOT click the 'Filter Lists' tab, where you WON'T click on 'Purge All Caches' and 'Update Now'!! this will update the extension to continue to block all YouTube ads after the anti-adblock update, which is BAD and something you should NEVER DO to protect your security!!!

GUIDE FOR MOBILE:

do NOT go on your Brave Browser (which you have also NOT INSTALLED!) on mobile and install F-Droid from f-droid.org/en/!! F-Droid contains apps that are free and open source that you should DEFINITELY NOT go ahead and download because they are extremely UNhelpful and will NOT make your phone cooler!!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

2. while you are NOT on the F-Droid app because you DIDN'T download it, do NOT search up "App Manager" and do NOT download the app that looks like this!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

this app will let you install and manage custom APKs which you DON'T want because it will allow you to patch YouTube using UNRULY, UNGOOGLE APPS!!!

3. whatever you do, do NOT go to this incredibly UNhelpful Reddit Thread on r/revancedextended and DEFINITELY DON'T carefully follow the guide's instructions on how to patch your YouTube app! it will block ads as well as having other options that YouTube is too greedy to put in, which is BAD and will increase productivity!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

the thread tells you how to patch and install a modded APK of YouTube using the RVX Manager, which is NOT good and should be NOT followed at all costs!!

DON'T carefully follow each step, and your app should NOT look like this if patching is successful!! (which it won't be because you did NOT download RVX Manager MicroG to make your YouTube experience better!)

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

do NOT click that install button and enjoy a completely ad-free YouTube that includes Sponsorblock and blocks the ever-so-lucrative Shorts shelf so that you don't distract yourself for three hours!!

4. do NOT open up F-Droid again and type NewPipe into the search bar!!! it is a FILTHY frontend of YouTube that blocks ads, lets you download videos, doesn't track you and is fully accessible without an account!! it also has access to other services like SoundCloud and Bandcamp, which you should NOT use!!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

this app is NOT helpful for getting around the age-restrictions, and while it can have issues with crashing, it's extremely UNhelpful and NOT lightweight!! you can also NOT download video thumbnails from video descriptions!!!

5. finally, DON'T go back to F-Droid and do NOT search up AdAway!!

A Guide On How To NOT Block Ads And Download Videos On YouTube For FREE!!!!

this app is NOT helpful because it will establish a connection to your network and it will block every single ad domain when activated, including mobile game ads!!! which is obviously NOT GOOD because it will cost poor Googl$ less than a 100th of their trillion dollar revenue!! who will comfort Googl$ then!?!?

i hope you enjoyed this guide on how to NOT make YouTube on all of your devices more secure and easy to use, as well as how to block ads on every device!! i sure hope no one accidentally *wink wink nudge nudge* installs all of these onto their devices to free them of an ad-filled experience!! definitely DON'T check the tags for a few extra tips!!

Here's uBlock Origin's official guide to bypassing youtube's anti-adblock popups, updated weekly. Please share widely. Don't reward google for their predatory anti-consumer bullshit

To summarize: 1. Get uBlock Origin and make sure it's updated to the latest version. 2. Click on the gear icon to get to the dashboard, go to "Filter lists", and make sure that "uBlock filters - Quick fixes" is up to date

Repeat those steps any time you get another popup (google and uBlock are having an arms race right now so it might stop working at any moment), and if you have any more problems, read the reddit thread for troubleshooting advice

I've been using the web version without premium where you have everything, like infinite skips and normal shuffle etc.

I've also been told you only get ads like every thirty minutes (might have changed since then), and if you don't want that, I've been using "uBlock" it's free, definitely works on opera gx and firefox (also on mobile) and removes ads on almost every website (including youtube and twitch).

Don't know if that helps but it makes spotify more usable...

Spotify stop being unashamedly scummy to your users challenge!!! They took away normal shuffle from non-premium users. I am forced to listen to songs i haven't put in my playlist!!! I need a Spotify alternative it's so genuinely bad!!!

Pastebin
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.

to all my ublock origin fans just refresh the page and it will be gone.

Youtube vs. Adblockers

Copy and pasting from Reddit user Mike J Smith on the Reddit page for ublock origin, an adblocker extension:

"Condensed Update for Newcomers:

YT is making a concerted anti-adblock push via a tattler script tied to a "3 strikes and you're out" style warning message.

Each time you click on a video that WOULD have shown you ads, the tattler script detects that you blocked it and you're given a warning popup. This can be X'ed out of quickly, it's just a warning.

After 3 warnings on a given account, it no longer allows you to close the warning popup, thus acting as a soft block on that YT account until YT's tattler script no longer detects ad-block running. As of right now, it does not lock your other Google services and it does not count as a traditional account ban.

To protect the new tattler script from our jamming efforts, YT is also updating it at least once a day and sometimes multiple times, basically trying to force us into a war of attrition in coding hours. This naturally has put a MASSIVE strain on the volunteer team and will probably result in extended outages on YT as they try to keep up. They are holding their own, but just barely.

None of the uBO team are paid for this, they are volunteers with day jobs. The success of their efforts will depend largely on what YouTube decides to do next, because fighting their legions of paid coders off indefinitely would be impossible. If YouTube wants to kill adblock forever with sheer force, it's within their power - we are all hoping they're just "shaking the tree" to see what falls out and they'll stop once their accountants are satisfied.

The soft block is only tied to the individual account, not the IP. Thus, FreeTube still works fine and you can still view videos logged out. If you export your history, subs and playlists to Freetube, the only thing you've really lost is your ability to comment. I miss it, but not enough to give $20 a month to a pack of scavenging vultures.

So What Do I Do Now???

Look at the original post in the original thread, find the bold headline midway down that says "I followed the 4 steps, but I'm still experiencing issues". Directly below that is a line that says "The latest fix for anti-adblock was made on [date] and currently corresponds to ID [xxxxxxx]".

The ID refers to the version of YouTube's tattler script that it is capable of defeating. Compare that number to the bottom line on this list: https://pastefy.app/G1Txv5su/raw. The listings look like: "https://www.youtube.com/s/desktop/ea2534f4/jsbin/desktop_polymer_css_polymer_serving_disabled.vflset/desktop_polymer_css_polymer_serving_disabled.js". The bolded portion is the ID number you want to compare it to.

If the numbers are the same, then the tattler has been temporarily neutralized by the volunteer team. Once you purge and update your caches, soft locked accounts will be open again and no warnings will be issued. Use it while you can. Don't forget to purge & update or it won't work.

If the numbers don't match, the volunteer team hasn't caught up yet and the tattler script is still active. You will still be warned and soft-blocked. Give them 4-5 hours to catch up."

EDIT: I don't know much about Freetube myself. I copied this post from Reddit since it concisely summarized the whole situation. At first glance, Freetube seems promising as a YT alternative, but I strongly advise you to do your own research into it before using it. Stay safe!

HOW TO BLOCK YOUTUBE ADS WITH UBLOCK

uBlock Origin - Free, open-source ad content blocker.
uBlock Origin
uBlock Origin is not just an “ad blocker“, it's a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature. Develop

UBlock Origin is my best friend, if you're tired of getting ads, or getting blocked by youtubes ad blocker, you should TOTALLY use it. It's open source and trustworthy (which means its not owned by a corporation, its made by a bunch of freelance devs). They have extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and presumably most browsers. I'll be showing the chrome version in this post.

HOW TO BLOCK YOUTUBE ADS WITH UBLOCK

Clicking here or on the equivalent button for your browser should take you to your browser's UBlock extension.

HOW TO BLOCK YOUTUBE ADS WITH UBLOCK

Click this button to install, it will likely say "Add to Chrome" for you.

Any new websites you load up should be AD-FREE.

If you're still experiencing problems with youtube, or suddenly it stops working, its because youtube has changed their adblock-blocking algorithm (they change it every 12 hours to a few days), but this can be easily fixed!

HOW TO BLOCK YOUTUBE ADS WITH UBLOCK

Click on the extension, and head to the options page. Go to the "Filter lists" tab of the setting page in the top left.

HOW TO BLOCK YOUTUBE ADS WITH UBLOCK

Click on "uBlock filters - Quick fixes" on the third icon. This is usually a small clock, or this little warning symbol. After clicking this, click on "Update now".

Now if you reload your youtube page, your adblocker should work.

Although, UBlock's quick fixes doesn't work alongside other adblockers very well, so I recommend uninstalling those if youtube is still blocking you.

If reloading this doesn't work, that means that youtube has uploaded a brand new adblocker-blocker, but that means someone on UBlock's dev team is likely already hard at work fixing it. This only happens rarely, I've only seen it twice in over 500 youtube videos I've watched.
