Tolkien Elves - Tumblr Posts

Since many people liked the last post of Legolas, I decided to make another one-
Honestly I hate colouring but I'm doing this for you guys-
BASED, maybe sometime I should blog about how I would punish my players in a DnD oneshot for trying to poke holes in my (non-existant) worldbuilding. Short preview: I would use my improv skills to quickly think of a contrived reason why there was no plot hole and then I would make that reason incredibly cursed. I generally have a limited drawing ability but one of those players is a MADLAD and drew the cursed elves I created when I decided that the reason the NPC elves didn't like one of the players was because elves had a cultural thing against short people because they were tall (like LOTR elves)(also, don't question the logic behind short/tall discrimination. Yes, it's rediculous but it's also an in-joke and society sort of discriminates based on height with different genders only being allowed to be tall or short) BUT the elf in my party had 4ft something as their character height (slightly taller than Santa elves) so one thing led to another and now... Elves ears are half of their body height and they measure from the top of their ears, where they have a second pair of eyeballs attached like snails.

Everybody look at this fountain and tell me it wasn't made by an elf:

It's made, I assume, from copper. The water falls from hidden spouts on the underside of the topmost branches, raining over the lower leaves. I could have stared at it for hours (the photo does not do it justice). Rivendell definitely had these.
tfw you realize that Legolas is the youngest elf: awwwe, the greenest, littlest leaf, he baby
vs
tfw you realize Tolkien never actually says that Legolas is the youngest elf: wut 😳

“-and it was then that Elrond first saw Celebrían, and loved her, though he said nothing of it”
Elladan & Elrohir | Arwen

The hold this stupid elf has on me…unreal

If you’re not reading TA 2980 by sehellys by now then you’re missing out
Anyway here’s Elrohir making some poor decisions

"And high and noble as was Elemmakil, greater and more lordly was Ecthelion, Lord of the Fountains, at that time Warden of the Great Gate.”
Forever trying to figure out a plot for a fanfic called There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvish

Elves flirting with Sauron is canon, Tolkien said so.

Appreciating Jeff LaSala's summation of Celebrimbor's character:
"Being himself pure in heart (if naïve as hell), Celebrimbor...gives away all his wonderful new objets d’art [his masterworks, the three Elven Rings of Power]. How opposite Sauron can you be?"
The original article, "Twenty Rings, Seven Stones, and Middle-earth’s New Dark Lord" on reactormag.com is quite funny, but has a lot of spoilers for the fates of Second-Age kingdoms and peoples in Middle-earth. You have now been warned, if you have not foreseen.
Rings of Power credit to Amazon, et cetera
Tonight I found myself thinking about Oropher's hair color. In my headcanons, his father is Noldor, but his mother is Sinda. So, could he have silver hair with some black highlights? Yes! It would be cute, in my mind, it brings some cuteness looking to him and makes him a golden retriever himbo. But, there is a possibility that his hair is all black like his father's (with some hidden silver strands) and all softly wavy, like his mother's. But, with Oropher's hair being black, how could Thranduil's hair be platinum gold? Simply put, he inherited his hair color from his mother, Oropher's wife. Black haired Oropher brings me some "Do i wanna know?". Silver-haired Oropher is cool, but black-haired Oropher is just... DO YOU WANT ME CRAWLIN BACK TO YOU?
Keeping with tradition when it comes to Tolkien verse on screen, I am expecting Legolas in season 2 of RoP.
MAJOR Cannibalism TW
The journey across the Helcaraxe took far longer than the elves expected it to. They had nowhere near enough food, and even the elves need to eat. So they did what they had to do.
Fingolfin did what he had to do because he was stubborn.
Fingon does what he must because he has to survive long enough to see Maedhros again.
Turgon does what he must because he will not let his daughter be orphaned.
Galadriel does what she must because she still needs to punch Feanor in the face.
Argon and Elenwe did not live long enough to need another food source.
Glorfindel, half frozen to death himself from repeatedly diving into the frigid waters to rescue others, didn't even have the capacity to choose whether or not to take the actions he took until they had already begun, and once you start, you don't stop until there's a better option.
When it is finished, they will never speak of it again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feanor's army is left without food a great many times.
Before the sun's first rise and set, the Feanorians have created a way to determine who lives and dies in times of starvation, and they too refuse to speak of what happened to their dead.
They refuse because Maedhros, for all his protest of killing other elves, was the first to slit the throat of the elf chosen to die.
They refuse because not even Maglor can bring himself to sing of this, and Maglor could sing of his own family dying.
They refuse because Caranthir, for all his brutality and cruelty, believes that they are wrong.
But most importantly, they refuse because the first elf they ate was Amrod.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second most important time the Feanorian army is left starving is in F.A 548. This is the event with the most guilt around it.
Survivor's guilt from Elrond, because for all intents and purposes, the stolen twins should have been the first to die.
Inequality guilt from Elros and Erestor, because they knew that they weren't going to be harmed and they did not step in to suggest something better.
Existential guilt from Maglor, because he cannot bring himself to think that this is their fault.
And the overwhelming, self-loathing guilt of Maedhros, because at the end of the long, bloody day, he knows he should have done something to stop this. To make sure two sixteen year old half-elves didn't have to choose between starving and sinning. To make sure his brother didn't have to make that decision for them. He should have done anything.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the late Third Age, the few elves who know all of what happened are together in a city. Odd behaviors surround them like shrouds, concealing a much darker past. The people of Imladris have learned not to try to pull back these shrouds.
They don't ask questions when the mere sight of a red drink forces Erestor to hide in his chambers and cry.
They don't ask questions when the mere sight of meat has a good chance of making sure Glorfindel won't be able to keep anything down for days.
They don't ask questions when a particular word or phrase has Elrond refusing any food altogether for days.
They don't question, because they don't want the answer. They don't want to know what can break a man like Erestor, who acts like a glacier made of intelligence. They don't want to know what makes a Balrog slayer feel sick. They don't want to know what manages to drive a perfect person like their lord to the brink of complete collapse.
Lee Pace being a sass ass on set

And we love it 💕

The Great Journey
A story about Elmo and his partner. After the journey to Aman, they settled in Alqualondë. Then first kinslaying happened and Elmo's partner had to return to Middle-earth.
I've established this HC for Oropher, Thranduil's father. Now our favorite Elvenking has a grandfather too.
Read it on AO3

This is me when I go to Disney land ✋😂

_Family, birth & age_
Family
As she is one of the Elves born in Cuiviénen, she doesn’t have ‘blood’ family. However, she considers Tata, Tatië, Imin, Iminyë, Enel and Enelyë as her brothers and sisters. She was the first elf to ever awaken, long before the others.
Birth
Nendarnē was ‘born’ in Cuiviénen. She awoke long before the others and took care of their bodies as one would with their children. She was considered to be the first ‘mother’ of Elves. Nendarnē was not so known, for she prefered to spend her days swimming and talking to trees. She was a bit of an introvert and therefore awoke at night and went to sleep at sunrise, passing the day sleeping, most of the times.
Age
She looks to be 27-28, being 7500+ years of age
_Appearence_
Hair = night black and calf lenght
Eyes = arctic blue
Height = 10’7 (326,14 cm)
Race/Ethnicity = Quendi, no distinction from the first races (Minyar, Tatyar and Nelyar) for she awoke first and stayed in Cuiviénen
Mouth = ‘rouge’ (F26B8A)
Skin = Olive, with some tattoos on her arms
Clothes (in Cuiviénen) = it wasn’t really clothes, but she wore the skin of Markhors (named Slōkōmat* in Primitive Elvish and Matango* in Quenya) to support her breasts and bottom. She used the horns of the Markhors to tattoo herself
Clothes (middle of First Age and onwards) = mostly tunics, pants and hunting gear, but sometimes she’ll wear dresses or don her very old clothes from Cuiviénen
Special features/accessories = She has tattoos on her right arm. They are mostly swirls and flowers
*Slōkō means snake and Mat means eat/eater, so Slōkōmat means Snake Eater in Primitive Elvish
*Mat means eat/eater and Ango means snake, so Matango means Snake Eater in Quenya
_Love life_
Promise and loyal to = no one, for she had never any desire to take on a lover, either for sexual pleasure or romance
Children = she has no adopted nor biological children, but she helped her ‘siblings’ raise their children; Illion, Finwë, Olwë, Elwë and Elmo (also Ingwë, Illion’s son)
_Likes, dislikes, fears_
Likes
Nature, hunting, swimming, Ents and Entwives*, children, singing, her culture and taking care of others
*Her favourite Entwife was Lushleaf, who was one of her bestfriends. It hurt her deeply when Lushleaf disappeared
Dislikes
Morgoth, Orcs, cruelty, unnecessary violence, being in a place with too much people
Fears
Being captured by Morgoth or seeing the ones she cares about captured by him, dragons and burning to death
_Hobbies/Passions_
Hunting = As the first Elf to ever awaken, she had to learn how to feed herself all alone. She had to observe animals to fend for herself. At first, she only ate berries for she only saw herbivorous animals. She then saw carnivorous animals and learned from them how to hunt. It became her passion and hobby to hunt. She loves to feel the power and adrenaline hunting prey gives her. Nendarnē was the first elf to ever make a bow and a hunting knife, the bow made out of a solid branch from a tree and animal guts, while the knife was made out of a wolf’s tooth. Hunting for her food was a calming and grounding activity for her and helped her relax when she was overwhelmed or stressed.
Singing = Again as the first Elf to ever awaken, Nendarnē suffered from loneliness for a long time. To remedy this strange and unwelcome feeling inside of her, she started soul singing (fëalindë in Quenya). As Primitive Elvish was born, she started singing words to externalize her feelings. As she learned new languages (Primitive Elvish evolved), she became enamoured with singing in those languages. Quenya, Sindarin, Telerin, Noldorin, Silvan, Avarin, Vanyarin, Valarin, etc., she loved to sing. Whether she learned those languages by Elves who went to Valinor and came back or from people who ‘modified’ Primitive Elvish, she loved to learn new languages to sing in.
_Fun fact_
Nendarnē stayed by the ocean after she left Cuiviénen after the War of Wrath. She misses dearly the Sea of Helcar and sometimes dreams that she is back there, lazing about in the water and looking at the stars. She walks around on beaches and sometimes sings. She sometimes heard a voice singing in a sad voice, a long long lament. Nendarnē sometimes saw a figure after hearing that voice. Later on, after Nendarnē became friends with Mairafinwë, she looks for that voice/figure, as she is convinced that this is Maglor. In the end, she never found him, but gave Mairafinwë enough information to find him.
