Time Travel AU Part: 7

Adam felt himself stirring awake. There was a presence near him. Close, but far enough not to touch, just kind of observing him. His first thought was Amora. The jaguar tended to always stick with him, especially since the whole Lucifer and Lilith debacle. If not beside him, she’d always be in his peripheral, seemingly on a lookout. Sometimes, she’d even usher the other animals away if there were too many of them. She was quite a protective girl. Honestly, Amora reminds Adam of his exorcists, overwhelmingly loyal, protective, and totally badass.

A shadow loomed over Adam. Did Amora move closer? Adam knew what was coming next. Multiple licks to his face. Amora had a habit of ‘grooming’ him in the morning to get him to start the day. He supposed it was time to wake up, though he would’ve rather stayed in longer. But instead of the expected rough texture of a cat’s tongue and saliva on his face, he felt a finger. Delicate fingers poked his nose, cheeks, eyelids. Gentle yet very curious.

Adam opened his eyes. Lustrous gold met ocean blue. Thick waves of red hung above him as it framed an innocent speckled face looking down at him. The rays of sunlight that managed to seep through the foliage wrapped around her, mimicking the glow of a halo. Her eyes widened as she let out a small gasp, “You’re so beautiful.”

“Eve!” Another voice not too far away called out.

Eve sat up as she turned her attention to Sera’s quickly approaching form. Adam followed suit but remained quiet, still astonished by Eve’s sudden appearance. He almost couldn’t believe it, seeing Eve again, if not for the fact that he had been living in paradise for almost a year now.

“Eve, please do not run off like that on your own again,” Sera said, a little reproachful, once she finally caught up with Eve. But once she saw the innocent joy in Eve’s bright eyes, well she couldn’t really bring herself to say anything more.

“Sera!,” Eve beamed excitedly at the High Seraphim, her hands gesturing wildly, still unsure how to express herself properly. “Is he going to be my husband? He’s so..so..!,” she stammered, unable to find the right words. She turned to look at Adam once again. “..perfect..,” she finally said, her cheeks turning a little pink.

Sera moved closer towards both Adam and Eve, a gentle smile on her lips. Placing her hand on Eve’s shoulder, she addressed the first man, “Adam, this is Eve, your new wife. You are to care for her and love her as you show her the workings of the garden.” Turning to Eve she continued, “And Eve, as his wife, you are to-” but was cut off by the sight of Adam.

Adam wanted to reach out, to touch Eve, to make sure that she was real. To feel her soft, fluffy hair. To touch her yet unmarred skin. To hear her energetic voice. He knew she was being made, that she was going to be in the garden soon, in fact he was awaiting her arrival. And yet, now that she was in front of him, he didn’t know what to do with himself. His partner in crime, through the good times and the bad times. The one who always helped him up whenever he was stuck in a pit. The one who started humanity with him. He hadn’t seen her since… since his last life on Earth. He passed before her, and he waited in Heaven for her, for hundreds and hundreds of years. Some of their children passed through the golden gates, and yet she didn’t. The first time he visited Hell, he immediately searched for her. Someone of her origins surely must’ve some sort of presence, even in Hell. Once again, he found no trace of her. Sera and the council told him that she was ‘lost’, whatever that meant, and that he should move on already. And just like that, everyone moved on. Adam had long accepted that he would never see her again, and yet she was here, in front of him, in all her innocence.

Adam wasn’t sure how long he had been just sitting there, but his vision started to blur and he felt wetness on his cheeks. “Fuck. Shit- I- I’m no sissy. Ugh,” he tried to quickly rub the tears away, but it seemed like it just wouldn’t stop.

“Adam? What’s the matter?,” Sera reached out, careful hands cupping his face.

“N-nothing. I’m just happy,” he smiled softly, not needing to lie this time.

“He must’ve felt so lonely,” Sera gave a sad smile, oh her tender heart.

It took them a while to make Eve, they needed to make sure she wouldn’t turn out like Lilith had, but when Michael told them how Adam made drawings of a supposed ideal partner and how he seemed lonely, well they had to speed up the process a little bit. Looking at his happy tears, Sera was glad that they hurried up a little.

After finally drying his eyes up a bit, Adam turned to Eve, a warm smile on his lips and nostalgia in his eyes, “It’s nice to meet you Eve.”

Lucifer and Lilith both stood at the entrance of the garden. Lucifer could no longer teleport or create a portal directly into Eden, he lost that privilege as soon as they were both banished. He carefully placed his palm on the barrier protecting the garden from the rest of the world.

“As I thought, I’m blocked off. I’ve got an idea though.”

Lucifer closed his eyes, focusing on his angelic spirit, feeling the nature of it, its characteristics and elements that made it him, the Morningstar, creativity and freedom. Then he thought of another’s, one similar to him, one made from the same star dust, and then he moulded his spirit to mimic it. One that is stern and just. Law abiding and protective. He felt the changes, a frown forming on his lips. He didn’t like this, to use a cover to hide his true self, especially one that was so very unlike him, but this was the best choice. The garden should be familiar with this presence, and might allow him to bypass the barrier.

Lucifer took a deep breath, “Well, here goes nothing.”

He closed his eyes as his hand easily passed through the barrier, granting him access. Still, he remained at the spot, waiting for Heaven to strike him down. A moment passed, and nothing happened. All he felt were the familiar warm rays of sun and the cool breeze on his hand from the other side of the garden’s entrance. He eagerly turned towards Lilith, a proud look on his face.

“I think I can sneak in.”

Lilith walked closer to the angel, the smile on her face mirrored his proud one. She didn’t doubt for even a moment that he could do it, he was, afterall, the angel of creation. Still, he was only one against many, and she couldn’t help but feel worry for her beloved.

She placed her hand on his cheek and held him tenderly, “I knew you could do it, but please, do be careful. Maybe change your form into something smaller, one that could easily slip by and hide.”

Lucifer knew he wouldn’t be in real danger, sure Heaven might strike him down, but the damage wouldn’t be so severe he couldn’t recover immediately, he might lose a few more privileges but that would be it. Heaven was strict and disciplinary, but not cruel. A testament to this was them allowing him to keep his angelic abilities despite taking Lilith for himself. He was banished, but not left without tools to fend for himself and the first woman. Still, he wouldn’t want to be caught in the first place, and he wanted to ease Lilith’s worries.

He grabbed Lilith’s hand from his cheek and placed them on his lips, his eyes never leaving hers, “Don’t worry, I’ll be very careful.”

Seeing some worry leave Lilith, Lucifer let go of her hand, and giving her a final assuring look, he entered the garden fully.

—-

Lucifer slithered between the grass, and the rocks, and fallen branches trying to look for a sign of the first man. He had transformed into a white snake, having decided to stick on lower ground for now, not wanting to attract Heaven’s attention as he navigated through the garden. Then something caught his attention. Soft murmurs, and playful laughter. A pair of voices, a man’s and a woman’s. Lucifer crept along the branches of a tree nearby, trying to identify the source of the sounds. In the distance he saw Adam sitting on the grass, the jaguar who always seemed to be beside him on one side, and on the other side an unfamiliar woman. Her bright red hair and exuberant energy stood out in the calm greenery. She seemed to be human.

“Did they already make Adam a new wife?”

But that wasn’t what really surprised the angel. In front of him was Adam with his new wife, feeding her different kinds of fruits with this smile on his face that for once seemed to genuinely exude happiness and warmth. Adam the first man, who has only ever been arrogant and controlling, always wanting things to go his way only and has never been sweet to his first wife, Lilith, was now behaving in ways he never thought he would. What was happening here?

Something was definitely odd with the first man. Lucifer would pay more attention this time. Take notes of the random changes in his behaviour, and when he would have enough, he’d present them to Heaven, where they would have to monitor him closer and hopefully catch him in the act. Yeah, that would be a good start.

Oh my god I just finished reading time travel au part 7 and when I tell you I cried... I legit cried... God I'm so excited for the guitarhero but you wrote Adam and Eve so so SO GOOD!! it brings me to tears with just how immediately soften and happy Adam upon meeting eve.. How eve first word to him was how he's so beautiful!? I can't!? My heart can't take it!!!! I have such a soft spot for Adam and Eve because in religious class they are the lesson I was fascinated and interested the most

And the way you explore them, so tenderly and how Adam waited for her for so long??? But she was not found?? KILLED ME!!! I'm obsessed with this au and your writing,,, please please keep doing your magic!!

On a side note, I swear this fandom need more Adam and eve content more which is an ironic thing to say,,,, my heart melted immediately for them,,, I'm so happy but also very very scared of how the apple scene going to happen next, its okay, it's a good scared, I'm very invested and guaranteed will cry again

Thank you for your amazing writing!!

🥹🥹🥹 Anon, you're gonna make ME cry with those words. Seriously, one of the nicest comments I've gotten so far.

And yeah, this au is totally guitarhero, but I'm such a sucker for sweet Adam/Eve that I just gotta add a sprinkle of it, even though it will be a past love kind of thing. My Adam in this au is determined not to repeat the past, and unfortunately that includes Eve. You can't be hurt as deeply if you don't love as deeply like before, am I right? (But hey Michael isn't a fragile human, and he's already in heaven, and he's immortal, and he's deeply loyal and...)

But yeah, the apple scene might hurt quite a bit. You should have some time to prepare your heart for that though. (unless I decide to pull a fast one)

Time Travel AU Part: 8

Adam watched Eve run around with Amora along with the other animals while he rested sitting underneath the shade of a large tree. God, he forgot how energetic that woman was. He had introduced Eve to Amora as well as the other animals. The jaguar seemed to have taken a liking to her, and one playful pounce led to another, Adam got dragged into it along with the others, and now they were still running around. Adam had tapped out for at least an hour now, and yet Eve was still matching Amora’s energy. He leaned on the trunk of the tree. This was nice. This was all he truly wanted. When things were just simple. No Lucifer and Lilith, no sinners to deal with, and no heavenly councils. Just him in paradise.

Eve’s bubbly laughter snatched his attention again. She was so innocent and carefree, just like her old self before their banishment. Their hardships and misfortunes outside the garden eroded both Adam and Eve of their innocence and cheer. Adam, while back in the garden, couldn’t regain that innocence, and so he just hoped that, at least in this life, Eve would be able to keep hers. But he knew. He knew that sometime in the future, that snake Lucifer would tempt Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Of course he would try to prevent that from ever happening, but he couldn’t always keep an eye on Eve. He supposed there would be no harm in teaching Eve how to survive outside the garden. Just in case.

The sound of approaching footsteps behind him directed his attention to his other companion, Michael.

“Would you like some?,” Michael offered Adam some grapes he gathered while waiting for Eve to eventually tire out.

“Yes please,” Adam grabbed a small cluster of grapes and popped them into his mouth. How crisp and sweet. Every fruit and vegetable in Eden was exactly as one would want them. Just perfect.

“They’re still playing?,” Michael asked, genuinely surprised by Eve’s energy.

Adam nodded in confirmation. It was going to be a long wait for both him and Michael.

—-

Eve was a good match for Adam.

Michael stood beside Adam, idly watching the scenery in front of them. It had only been a few days since Eve’s creation, and yet the two seemed like they’ve always known each other. That was how much they got along. Way better than Lilith and Adam’s relationship. Where Lilith avoided as much time as possible with Adam, and often left him alone. Eve was the opposite. She was almost never away from Adam’s side, always bringing him wherever she went. And while Michael was happy, as he should be, that Adam got the partner he deserved, he couldn’t help but miss the times when he and Adam spent some time together. Just a little bit. With Eve’s presence in the garden, Michael didn’t really have much of a reason to stay in the garden, except for the occasional visit just to ensure nothing was wrong. And that was fine! Really! He had a lot of work to do in Heaven, and he was glad to have a load off of his back. But sometimes he just wanted to have some time off and enjoy good company. There was nothing wrong with that, right?

He glanced at Adam. The first man seemed to be unoccupied as of now. He could ask right now. He wasn’t busy.

Why was he hesitating? It was not an odd thing to ask. Some amusement while waiting was a normal thing to do! That was right. He would just ask. Casually.

Michael stood in silence for a few more minutes, frowning at himself. A dark gloom seeped out of him, eventually affecting Adam, who was sitting beside him. The first man stopped eating his grapes and turned to look at the source of the gloom, clearly unnerved by it.

“Um, Michael?,” he asked a little nervously.

And in an instant Michael snapped out of his gloom, his cool demeanour quickly taking over. The first man was looking at him confused and concerned. Did something happen? He quickly scanned the surrounding area. Everything seemed to be in order. Eve was still playing, and Adam was in front of him. Oh right. He wanted to ask Adam if he would like to play learn a new board game. The angel looked back at Adam, he got his attention now, he shouldn’t dawdle.

Michael cleared his throat, why were his nerves acting up today? “I have something new for you to learn. If you would like.”

Adam furrowed his brows in even more confusion, “The fuck? That was it? What was with the dramatics earlier?”. For a brief moment Adam thought that the angel had somehow read his thoughts and that he was done for. But he supposed that Michael was just weird. He never thought of Michael to be the weird type, but then he was Lucifer’s brother so maybe it ran in the family.

Finally out of his stupor, Adam fixed his expression. Innocent and friendly as he gave an eager smile, “I would like to! What do you have in mind?”. He supposed he could indulge the angel. No harm done. Plus, he was getting bored.

Michael perked up a bit at Adam’s response, not too noticeable, but it was there if one paid attention. With a snap of his fingers a wooden board with lines all over it along with black and white game pieces poofed into existence. Michael quickly placed the items between him and Adam as he sat on the grass facing him.

“So, this one is called ‘Twelve Men’s Morris…’”

Both Michael and Adam were focused on their game, both equally unwilling to lose so easily. They had been playing after Michael explained the rules to Adam, with Adam quickly learning and getting better at the game. As Michael had expected. The first man was always quick to adapt, which was why the angel liked to spend time with him. He was pretty sure that at the rate that Adam was learning and enough time given, he could be even more capable than most angels in Heaven. It was quite fascinating for him to watch this extraordinary growth as angels were made with pre-existing capabilities. There wasn’t much for them to grow into or improve.

Michael took a subtle glance at the first man. It was his turn to make a move. Furrowed brows, pinkish lips pressed into a thin line, and an intense golden gaze in deep thought. The afternoon sun casted a soft golden glow upon his silhouette, that complemented his warm brown hair and accentuated his golden eyes. And for a moment, Michael thought he looked like an angel made of golden light from the sun’s first rays. This radiant man was putting all of his concentration on their game, and Michael couldn’t be more… content? elated? that this time was spent here, with him.

Adam moved a piece, a confident smile on his face, “Alright, your turn.”

Michael tore his attention away from Adam and back down to the game and… it didn’t look good for him. He made a rookie mistake. “Ah. I might actually lose this time.” Adam didn’t really give him a lot of options, cornering most of his pieces. Almost every move was guaranteed for him to lose a piece. How did he not see that coming? It was time for him to focus, really focus, then maybe he could still turn the game around and save face.

Just then, Eve’s call for Adam travelled through the air, breaking the bubble that surrounded the game. And just like, the intensity and focus on Adam’s features swiftly turned soft and carefree as he turned to the quickly approaching woman. Michael deflated a little. Their time together was over.

“Adam! I found this new place, and I think it’ll be more fun if you come! Come! Come! I’m sure you’ll like it!” Eve dragged Adam’s arm towards the place, her energy somehow still there.

Adam let out a small laugh, amused by his wife’s antics, before turning his attention back to Michael. “Do you want to tag along?”

“Oh, Michael, please come along!,” Eve added.

Well, Michael would like to, but… The sun was nearing the horizon, golden rays slowly turning orange, light blue skies turning dark, and fluffy clouds thinning and blending into the sky like smudged paint on a canvas. He had more work to do in Heaven. He would like to stay, but it was time to go.

Michael snapped the game board and its pieces away as he got up from his spot. “No, thank you. It’s time for me to return to Heaven anyway.”

The two gave him a nod before running off to wherever Eve wanted to bring them, leaving Michael alone under the tree. Amora stood a short distance away from him, yellow eyes seemingly piercing through him.

“What?,” Michael asked as he crossed his arms, not liking the look the animal was giving him.

Amora snorted before turning away and following the two humans.

Michael had an inkling what, but it was something he wouldn’t even consider, let alone acknowledge. He wasn’t like his brother. Setting things to ruin. Besides, Eve was a good match for Adam.

—-

Lucifer slithered his way along the tree’s many branches. He had been observing Adam for a while now, and instead of finding clarity, he just got more confused. The first man was never this helpful and attentive of a husband towards Lilith, and yet towards Eve, he was everything Lilith needed him to be. The same went for his brother, Michael, who Adam was far more receptive and genuine with. If the forbidden fruit had corrupted Adam, then how come he was much nicer to both Eve and Michael than he ever was with Lilith and Lucifer? Ever since the beginning, Adam was never that receptive to both Lilith and Lucifer. So why now? It made no sense at all.

However, he did take notice of something relevant. Whenever Eve or Michael were not present, his ‘unsettling’ presence would come back. It was like he simply shed all of that cheer and innocence, like robes for him to change out of. Which was what he was currently doing. Adam was sketching something on a piece of tree bark using charcoal from a fire he made beside him while he kept a deer lying on its side in front of him, occasionally looking up and poking certain parts like its neck and stomach. What Adam was specifically drawing, Lucifer couldn’t get a clear look, the growing darkness not helping one bit. A moment later Adam called for Eve to come sit beside him on the log, which the woman did. He showed her his sketches, going back and forth between them and the compliant deer in front of them. As if he was teaching her something. Curious, and still unable to get a clear look, Lucifer decided to slither down the tree and onto the grass. Risky, but the creeping night should help conceal his presence.

As stealthily as he could, Lucifer made his way along the grass into a small bush near both Adam and Eve.

“...the head, especially the brain and eyes, you shouldn’t even bother to handle. They can make you sick.” Adam carefully explained to Eve, pointing at his drawing of a brain with an arrow that pointed from the deer’s head, and then back to the actual deer.

Eve furrowed her brows, trying to take in and understand what Adam was teaching her, but was clearly struggling to grasp it. Recently, her husband had been teaching her all of these new, but odd, things. Like which parts of an animal were vulnerable, their sleeping and feeding habits, how to sneak up on them. Adam had told her it was important for her to know a lot about the animals, they were after all, supposed to care for them as they were also part of the garden. But this lesson was the oddest thus far. Why would she need to handle a deer’s head? Or the brain or eyes? They should remain in the head anyway. But she didn’t question her husband. He had been nothing but good to her, so she was sure whatever he was teaching her would come in handy one day.

Lucifer couldn’t believe what Adam was teaching Eve. Were those drawings the inside of a deer?! How did he even know those things? He hadn’t seen any dead animals, but Adam could’ve just easily hidden them as he hid his true nature. Suddenly, he worried for the second woman. What if Adam was moulding her to become like him? He couldn’t let that happen. If he could just snatch that tree bark with his drawings, then he could show Heaven that there was something very wrong with the first man.

In his peripheral vision, Adam caught sight of something white glistening inside a small bush. He squinted, trying to see clearer in the darkening sky. There was no mistaking it. That small, white snake with its stupid clown red cheeks. “Fuck. He saw me.”

Suddenly, he turned to Eve. “Well, that’s it for now. And remember…”

“...not to tell the angels!,” Eve continued.

“Right. They already have so much knowledge to remember in Heaven, so there’s no need to bother them with the intricacies of Eden. That’s for us to know.”

Adam got up from the log, then carelessly tossed the tree bark into the fire. Eve sat up straight, hand reaching out for the bark, but it was too late. It had already been set aflame, slowly turning into nothing but ash.

“Oh. I wanted to keep them, in case I forget,” Eve slumped down, a little dejected.

Adam moved in front of Eve, bending down a little as he held her face with both of his hands. “You didn’t need them anyway. I know you're smart enough to remember. You’re my wife after all. The perfect woman!,” he smiled lovingly at her.

Eve felt her cheeks warm up as she nodded at her husband’s words. Adam pulled her closer, she let him, as he tenderly placed a kiss on her forehead. All the while Adam gave Lucifer a dark and chilling stare. Cold, hard gold daring him to make his move. Challenging him.

Lucifer returned the stare. Prideful red eyes determined to cause the first man’s downfall.

“Challenge accepted.”

Time Travel AU Part: 9

Lucifer slithered between the blades of grass, his small stature masking his presence. Memories from last night flashed within his mind. Those golden eyes, standing out in the darkness, challenging him like a defiant flame. It was on. Lucifer might have initially investigated out of concern and duty (and maybe some revenge), but now his pride was at stake. He was challenged by Adam, and he was not about to back down. He was never too fond of the first man anyway. He was arrogant, acting like he knew better than both him and Lilith. Adam needed to be knocked down a peg or two, and Lucifer was more than happy to oblige.

First stop was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Judging from his behaviour, Lucifer was sure Adam had eaten the fruit from the tree. He just had to look for evidence that the tree was tampered with. Signs of a plucked fruit, or leftover from the bitten fruit. Luckily for him, the fruit never rots nor does the tree close its wounds subtly. Signs that a fruit was taken should be obvious to the eye and easy to prove. Honestly, it was almost too easy.

When Lucifer navigated towards the tree, he was confident of his chances. However, once he arrived, that confidence quickly waned. What greeted him was the tree of knowledge of good and evil in all of its pristine glory. The atmosphere was still, the grass was tall and wildly growing. It was as if the area was stuck in time, untouched by the life outside of its bubble. There was no sign that anyone had been here since the garden was made. Lucifer shook his head. There was no way Adam hadn’t eaten the forbidden fruit. This was just a first impression, and he needed to have a closer inspection. Adam may have covered his tracks well enough, but Lucifer could be meticulous when needed.

Lucifer made his way towards the tree, up its bark, along its many branches. He turned every leaf, inspected every fruit, looked for stubs, even searched amongst the grass for any drop of evidence. And nothing. He looked over everything once more. Twice more. Thrice more. Still, nothing was amiss. It was as if the tree had remained untouched until now. Lucifer couldn’t believe it. Either Adam had perfectly hidden his tracks, or he had never eaten the fruit to begin with. Both explanations were baffling, and yet Lucifer was by the tree, unable to prove otherwise.

Irritated and confused, but mostly confused, Lucifer eventually made his way back towards the garden’s gate. He wanted to share what he found out so far with Lilith. Perhaps she could provide more insight? She did spend a lot more time with Adam, especially when they were just made. Lucifer sighed. This was a lot more confusing and challenging than he thought it was going to be.

Maybe it was the sun’s rays reflecting off his scales at just the right angle, or maybe it was because he wasn’t paying much attention to the path he was following, either way Lucifer was brought back to reality by the presence of a human. A woman specifically.

“Oh! I haven’t seen one like you before,” Eve bent down to have a closer look at the small, white snake in front of her. She reached out with her finger, stopping just a few inches away from the snake’s head. “No? Not the affectionate type, are you? That’s alright,” She smiled softly, as she pulled her hand away, opting to instead admire the beautiful snake from a distance.

Lucifer stopped in his tracks, surprised by the second woman’s sudden presence. How did he not notice her? He briefly thought of immediately slithering away, but judging by her demeanour, it seemed like the woman thought he was like any other animal in the garden. In the brief time he had spent lurking in the garden, he had found out that the second woman was from Adam’s rib, not long after Lilith and Lucifer were expelled from Eden. Coming from Adam, Lucifer initially thought she would be similar to him in many ways, and yet whenever her presence caught his eyes, he never detected any form of animosity or ‘unpleasant’ feelings emanating from her. He never got an uneasy feeling from her unlike Adam. Her presence was made of simple innocence and sincerity. Lucifer found it hard to believe that she came from Adam. They were so different in many ways. Honestly, he felt pity for Eve, to have to remain with someone like Adam. It must be unbearable not to have freedom.

Maybe there was a way he could help her.

—-

Lucifer eventually made his way back to Lilith. A home amongst the trees, high above the ground, but still covered by the forest canopy. It was their little haven in the massive world that they recently found themselves in. There were many dangers outside the garden, however, his angelic nature alone was enough to deter any predator from approaching. Unfortunately, Lilith was human, and Lucifer, as much as he wanted to, couldn’t always be by her side. And so, while they didn’t need it much, Lucifer used magic to keep his love and their haven perfectly safe from any harm that would ever dare come close.

As he approached their home, Lucifer was greeted with the sight of Lilith in all of her regal beauty sitting on the balcony, leisurely reading one of the books he had given her. Her blonde hair like silky rays of sun flowing amongst the leaves, her delicately sculpted figure a perfection amongst imperfections, and her amethyst eyes a priceless jewel. She never fails to steal Lucifer’s breath away whenever he gazes upon her image.

“Something caught your eye?,” Lilith asked, a teasing smile on her lips.

Lucifer nodded, smiling as he flew to sit beside her. “Oh, just the most perfect woman in existence.” He held her hand and placed a soft kiss on it. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too.” Lilith put down her book to give her full attention to her husband. “You look troubled, what's wrong?”

Lucifer told her of all his findings in the garden. About Adam’s changing behaviour depending on who was present, his recent questionable actions, and the fact that he had seemingly not eaten the fruit of knowledge. How there was evidence in his behaviour, but no traces of it in the garden. It simply seemed impossible.

“That’s why I’m asking you to remember when Adam may have changed. He couldn’t have always been like this from the beginning.”

Lilith hummed in contemplation, one hand on her chin. When did Adam change? While he did become more and more condescending and controlling as time went on, she didn’t particularly notice any sudden shifts in attitude. To her, Adam had always been unpleasant.

“Why couldn’t he always have been like that?,” Lilith finally replied.

“What do you mean?”

“Now that I’ve thought more deeply about it, Adam never seemed to have truly cared for me. Did you know he pulled his hand away from me in disgust when we first met? This was after all of the angels left.”

“Really?”

Lilith nodded. “It only went downhill from there. Adam had always been Adam. Yes, he got worse later on, but no abrupt changes. I think it was just him slowly shedding his mask.”

Lucifer looked down at his lap. He didn’t like the conclusion Lilith was leading him down, but she would never lie to him. To question his father’s work. Did God make a mistake when he made Adam? Was there a flaw that Heaven failed to notice? Just the thought itself was blasphemous. Every thought in his body demanded him to banish such thoughts from his mind. To show respect to his father and creator.

“I…don’t believe that Heaven is perfect,” Lilith added. “They did, afterall, punish us for our harmless love.”

The thought gripped onto Lucifer’s mind, unwilling to let go. Lilith was right. Heaven liked to present itself as perfect and fair, when in reality it was not. Lucifer felt the foundations he had always believed in crumbling around him. It was difficult for him to accept this new reality, but he could see it now. Similar to how Lilith was finally able to see the world outside of Eden and God’s plans, Lucifer was finally able to see what Heaven truly was. He held Lilith’s hand in one of his. It was his silent agreement.

A thought crossed his mind. The image of the second woman being carefree and innocently exploring the cage that disguised itself as paradise. She didn’t know any better, and wouldn’t know any better if things remained the same.

“I forgot to talk more about it. About Adam’s new wife,” Lucifer brought up.

Lilith quirked an eyebrow. Her gaze told him to go on. Lucifer did briefly mention that Heaven made Adam a new wife, the second woman, and she would be lying to herself if she didn’t admit she was at least curious about her replacement.

“She was made from one of his ribs…”

“Not from the dust of the earth?”

Lucifer shook his head, “No. And at first, I did think that she would be similar to Adam, being made from him and all, but she’s not like him at all.” He then described his perception of Eve to Lilith. How the second woman was devoid of any ill intent. Her eyes were always full of wonder and excitement as she fully took in everything around her. Always a little too willing and eager to listen to Adam’s whims, like she didn’t know any better. Sure, Adam treated her well enough, but how could he not when Heaven tailor-made a wife for him?

Lilith listened to every word, taking all of this new information in. From what she understood, it seemed that Heaven made the second woman while considering Lilith’s personality. While she was reserved and assertive, Eve seemed to be lively and passive. A little too passive.

“It’s as if the concept of choice was never built into her,” Lilith added, disgust and anger written all over her face. So that was all Heaven thought of them. Something readily replaceable and to be changed whenever it suited them, like playthings. Why call them perfect in the first place? Lilith clenched her fists tightly. It wasn’t fair at all, for both her and Eve.

“We have to help her. Don’t you think she deserves better? She should, at the very least, be allowed to decide for herself,” Lilith said with finality, her amethyst eyes emboldened by her resentment to Heaven for what they had done.

This was why Lucifer couldn’t help but love the first woman. She shared his passion and dreams to be able to be who you are with no restraints. She craved true freedom the same way he did. A proud smile crept on his lips, “I knew you would understand. You always do. And yes, we will help her. I’ve got an idea.”

—-

Lucifer was back in the garden, hiding his presence in the form of various animals. He had two goals now. One, expose Adam’s true nature to Heaven, and Two, give free will to Eve. It sounded simple enough, and yet here was hiding in trees after almost being caught by Michael. Ever since the night that Adam challenged him, the first man had clung to his brother whenever he visited the garden. And wherever Adam was, Eve followed. All three of them were always together, like peas in a pod.

He wrapped himself on the tree’s branch, his swaying impatiently as he waited for Michael to finally go back to Heaven. He swore that his brother took longer and longer to go back, “Don’t you have more work up there?”

Suddenly, Lucifer felt himself quickly untangle from the branch and sink towards the ground as something snatched his tail. He forgot the fourth pea in the pod, their pet cat who was weirdly protective of the first man. Amora pinned his scaly body on the ground, yellow eyes looking down on him. If he didn’t know any better, he would say that she looked rather smug. Very like Adam. It was no wonder she had taken a liking to him.

Amora then placed Lucifer in her mouth, her grip secure, but not deadly, before heading to a sprint towards the trio in the meadow.

“Oh no you don’t!”

Just as quickly, Lucifer shifted into another animal. Something even smaller. A small, red beetle. And before Amora could bring him to the trio, Lucifer slipped from her jaws, and flew into the air. Way higher up this time.

When she felt her prey gone from her jaws, Amora stopped abruptly in the middle of the field. Desperately looking around for her prized prey, subsequently catching Adam’s attention.

“Oof! What’s wrong girl?,” he patted her back when she finally gave up and slumped on him.

Amora let out a disgruntled growl. Adam understood what that meant. It meant that a weird animal slipped by her again. The weird animal being Lucifer. That was alright though, she at least kept him on his toes and far away enough from both him and Eve. While not as effective as Michael, Amora did keep the snake at bay most of the time.

“She’s been acting odd lately,” Michael commented, looking up as he shifted his focus on the flower halo he was trying to make. Key word tried. It seemed that he found another thing he wasn’t particularly good at. Looking at his sorry excuse of a flower halo, Michael wasn’t even sure why he was still trying at this point. His looked like it could fall apart from a slight breeze, and it was too large and misshapen, its flowers almost crumpled from the amount of times he replaced them. But when Eve invited him to join her and Adam in making flower halos (to be like angels as Eve said), and Adam gave him a perfectly crafted one, that now rested upon his head, and well, he thought he should at least return the favour. That, and Adam’s presence near him, as he taught him what to do and praised his efforts, felt rather… nice. It was like a craving almost fulfilled. A craving that gradually grew more and more potent as the days rolled on. It was also a craving that he couldn’t fully satisfy and shouldn’t. But he would take what he could.

“Is it her friend again?,” Eve asked.

Adam nodded, “Her friend ran away again.”

The angel had been visiting the garden more frequently, and staying longer as well. Maybe the animals weren’t as comfortable with him as he thought? The other angels in Heaven did say that he had an icy aura sometimes.

“Maybe her friend is anxious about my presence?”

“I’d say he’s terrified,” Adam snorted inwardly. “Maybe.”

Oh, so his presence was causing some anxiety amongst the garden’s inhabitants. Michael frowned, “I could go if it would make them feel more comfortable.”

Just as he was about to stand and get ready to leave, Adam’s hand shot out to stop him. He had a worried look on his face. “Uh…you haven’t finished your flower halo yet.” His hand left Michael’s forearm and moved onto his shoulder. “Besides, your presence is a comfort.”

Oh dear. That sweet smile and earnest eyes. Michael felt his cravings spike up again, and Adam carelessly was feeding it.

Michael found it hard to say anything, he eventually found his voice. He cleared his throat, “Alright, I’ll stay.”

Adam pulled back his hand, and Michael already missed the comforting warmth from Adam’s hand. The feel of it lingered on his right forearm and shoulder, etched into memory.

“Your presence is a comfort.”

Michael smiled to himself. That was nice to know.

Time Travel AU Part: 10

Wherever Eve went, out of the corner of her eye, she always spotted a certain white snake. Always watching her from a safe distance, but never interacting with her. Initially, she thought they were multiple different white snakes, but now, she was definitely sure that it was the same snake that had been following her around. The appearance and behaviour were too similar and consistent for it to be another snake. Today too, as she was out gathering breakfast, the white snake was watching her from a distant tree. And today too, she would try to approach it, hoping that it wouldn’t run away again.

Eve made her way through bushes, over tree roots and under branches towards the tree the snake was hanging onto. She hoped that this time once she reached the spot, the snake would remain. The thick foliage of the forest made her way towards the snake more arduous than she thought. Tree roots jutted out of the soil in thick rough arches, gigantic leaves refusing to give way, prickly shrubs obstinately blocking her path. It was as if nature itself was trying to stop her.

Hunched over with both hands on her knees, the way towards the tree tired her out more than she thought, Eve finally reached the spot she thought where the snake was. Starting from the roots, up the thick trunk, along the meandering branches, and finally, her blue eyes landed on a glistening white snake, beady red eyes staring back at her.

“Oh!,” Eve hadn’t expected the snake to remain at the spot, much less to seemingly wait for her. “You didn’t run away this time,” she smiled, her hand reaching out to pet the snake's head.

“That’s because I wanted to talk to you this time.”

Eve’s hand stopped mid reach. Did the snake just talk to her? She blinked slowly, “Huh? Did you just..?”

The snake smiled, red eyes curved into crescents, “Oh, how rude of me. My name is Samael. I’m an angel.”

“Um, I’m Eve,” Eve replied, still shocked that a snake, who was supposedly an angel, just spoke to her. The only other angels she had ever met were Sera and Michael. “But Samael, why do you look like that? Where are your wings?,” she asked, looking around the snake’s back.

“Ah, I’m in disguise you see.”

“Disguise?”

“Yes, it’s when you change your appearance so that others won’t recognise you.” Lucifer replied, tongue flicking every few words.

Eve tilted her head, brows furrowed, lips downturned slightly. “But…why would you need to do that?”

Lucifer leaned back, slender body wrapped around himself. “Hmm. Can you keep a secret?,” he hummed to himself, tail idly scratching his chin. “It’s because I’m on a secret mission.”

Eve leaned forward, shoulders tense, ears straining to hear more.

“Oh, it’s nothing serious,” Lucifer chuckled. “You can ease up. I’m just supposed to watch humanity’s progress from afar. Without intervention, so that it develops organically, you know?” he paused, a troubled look on his face. “But ah, you’ve revealed my disguise.”

“I can keep a secret!,” Eve exclaimed.

“Really?,” Lucifer leaned forward. “Even from your husband?”

“Uh, well,” Eve rubbed her shoulder. “I don’t want to ruin your work. I’m sure Adam wouldn’t mind.”

Lucifer smiled, happy he got the second woman’s trust. “You’re too kind, Eve. Thank you.” He started to turn away, “Well, then. It’s our little secret. See you around.”

Eve watched him slither down the tree and into the thick brushes of the forest. She couldn’t believe she had just met such a unique angel. How exciting!

—-

“Lilith, step one is complete. Eve will keep me a secret.” Lucifer slithered his way towards his wife, before transforming back to his original appearance.

“Well hello there beautiful, how are you so sure though?” Lilith replied, while admiring her chosen husband’s angelic beauty. Bright blonde hair that was always soft to the touch, deep red enchanting eyes, and six majestic white and red tinted wings. His appearance never seemed to become dull and boring in her eyes.

Lucifer strolled towards her and then placed his head on her lap. “Well, Eve is not like Adam. She’s nice. And naive, a little too naive.”

Lilith hummed in response. “And how do you plan to get her to eat the fruit of knowledge?” Delicate fingers combed through soft blonde hair, untangling any knots that came between them. “I recall you told me that she was almost always with Adam. How would you keep her long enough?”

“Well… I might need the help of a certain beautiful lady,” Lucifer answered with a playful lilt.

“And what can this lady do for you?” Lilith questioned further, matching her husband’s playful tone.

Lucifer turned to his side as he wrapped his arms around her waist, eyes fluttering at her. “Something only a talented woman can do. Though, her beauty must unfortunately be hidden.”

“That is unfortunate,” Lilith looked up as if contemplating the idea. “Though I'm sure she wouldn’t mind since it’s for a good cause.”

“Ah, I knew I could count on her. She is perfect after all.” Lucifer reached up to cup Lilith’s face, stretching up a little, and she met him halfway until their lips connected. She would always be there for her husband, just as he had been there for her.

—-

It was yet another warm, bright day in Eden. On such days like this, swimming at the beach, relaxing under a tree or playing in the lake would be appropriate activities. And yet, here was Lucifer watching Adam collect long sticks of similar sizes, and bringing them all back with him. With a small sharp stone, he started scraping the end of one stick at an angle until it became pointed and sharp. It looked like… no, it was definitely a crude spear. Where did he learn about that? Did Michael tell him about spears? He doubted it, there was no need for it. Plus, it was Michael, that guy was strict and serious about rules and safety.

Adam played around with his newly made spear, feeling the weight on his fingers. He swung it around with practised ease, muscle memory kicking in. Suddenly, he turned to a certain direction. And before Lucifer knew it, a spear flew tore through the foliage and past his scaly face, missing by just a few centimetres. Out of surprise, Lucifer lost his grip on the branch before falling towards the ground with a tiny yelp.

“It would seem that I missed…” Adam sighed as if disappointed. “But consider it a warning.” He walked towards where he threw the spear, his eyes scanned the area where he thought Lucifer might have fallen as he picked up his spear. If only he’d fallen straight to hell. “I know you’re here Lucifer.”

A brightly coloured cockatiel emerged from the bushes and landed on a tree’s branch. Though it was a bird that had beady eyes and a beak that could not frown, its face somehow depicted a scowl.

“You could’ve hurt me!” the bird chirped.

Adam rolled his eyes, not buying Lucifer’s dramatics. He unfortunately knew that it would take much more to actually hurt him.

“I could just tell Michael that you’ve been sneaking into the garden. Self defence,” Adam replied smugly. It wouldn’t be a lie.

“And why haven’t you? You know it’s because, despite gaining his favour, I’m still his brother. You would need to have him catch me on the act for him to truly believe you, and I’m much more careful now,” Lucifer answered, matching Adam’s arrogance. Two could play this game.

As much as Adam hated to admit it, Lucifer did have a point. While Michael had come to care for Adam, it was also obvious that he still held great love for Lucifer. Whenever Lucifer came up in a topic, Michael always spoke about him in a careful manner. He would disagree with Lucifer’s actions and beliefs, but he never spoke about it in true anger, just mainly in disappointment. He still believed that Lucifer wasn’t necessarily harmful, just very reckless and selfish. Like a young angel who hadn’t yet fully understood Heaven’s rules.

He would slip up again soon enough.

The arrogance of the King of Hell had been present since the beginning it seemed, and Adam didn’t really want to partake in that competition as of now. So, for once, he decided to be the ‘bigger man’ and turned on his heels ready to walk away. “Hm, we’ll see if you’re right in due time,” he said before ridding himself of Lucifer’s presence.

“Wha– Hey! Don’t you walk away from me!,” Lucifer quickly flew towards Adam, near but not close enough for Adam to reach him.

“I’ll do as I please. The garden is my home after all, not yours. In fact, you shouldn’t even be here,” Adam strolled leisurely across the forest towards the tree line.

A disgruntled noise could be heard behind Adam, before a set of fast fluttering wings wooshed by him and cockatiel hovered just in front of him. “You don’t belong in the garden.”

Adam stopped in his tracks, an unamused look on his face. “What do you mean? God himself had given me this home, and I haven’t broken any rules. I’ve done nothing but be obedient, unlike some people.” Adam scratched his head, eyes looking up at nothing in particular as he hummed. Then his eyes brightened up and the ends of his lips turned up ever so slightly. “Ah, is it because I’m more clever than you’d like to admit?” Adam walked past Lucifer. Just before he crossed the tree line into the open field, he turned to face him once more.

“Don’t look so sad. Not everyone was made in God’s image.”

With that, Adam crossed the tree line and out under wide blue skies and bright sunny rays where Lucifer couldn’t follow.

—-

It had been a few days since Adam had briefly dropped his mask in front Lucifer, and nothing had happened thus far. A self-assured smile crept on Adam’s face. He was right, Lucifer had nothing on him, and while his word wouldn’t be enough to get him stripped of his angelic status, he was sure that given enough time, Michael wouldn’t even doubt anything he’d say or do.

Though, anxiety had been slowly building up inside of Adam lately. It was nothing panic inducing, just that he got a bad feeling despite knowing he was safe and would remain in the garden. Michael did his usual visits and became closer to both him and Eve, Eve continued to stick close to him and he hadn’t noticed any oddity in her behaviour. Still energetic and overly curious. However, this unfounded bad feeling continued to grow by the day, and today felt like it was about to burst out of him.

A white glimmer wrapped amongst the branches brought him out of his thoughts. It was, yet again, Lucifer watching his every move, awaiting for a moment to strike. Adam snorted. The snake could anticipate all he wanted, but Adam was confident that he had his bases covered. Though, he had to admit. The pesky snake was starting to grind his gears now.

“You’re back. Again.” He made his way towards the snake and sat on the ground just beside the tree Lucifer was on. “At this point, you should know there’s no way for you to disprove my innocence.”

The snake wrapped its lower body tight around a branch as it lowered its face close to Adam. “I wouldn’t call you innocent,” he hissed, eyes seemingly more piercing than usual. “You’ve proven that to me a long time ago, though others seem to be blind to it.”

“You think your perspective is above that of Heaven’s?,” Adam chuckles. “How prideful.”

Lucifer simply remained in place, sharp eyes looking around the garden as he carefully considered the idea. Bouncing and passing it around his mind, tasting it fully.

“Prideful indeed,” Adam thought to himself, as he watched Lucifer think.

Lucifer nodded to himself, and then those sharp eyes then were back on him. “I think Heaven is wrong,” he finally said, expression full of certainty.

“Really?,” Adam asked in mock disbelief.

“Of course you wouldn't agree,” Lucifer sighed. “Why would you when they indulge you?”

That irked Adam. “Aren’t you the one about indulging? To do whatever you please, not caring about the effects you may cause?” You ruined humanity for fucks sake. Yes, Adam liked to indulge himself, but his indulgences never caused evil to be released into the world and doom humanity to hell. So for Lucifer to talk to him like that, well it just pissed him off. The fucking hypocrite.

And of course, the snake had the audacity to sigh in disappointment, “You don’t understand, you never do, and I’m not sure if you ever will.”

That gave Adam pause. Why was Lucifer talking to him like that? The guy was prideful, but in a way that was childish and dramatic, not in a haughty reticent way. He turned to face the snake, this time carefully examining the look in its eyes. That’s when it hit him.

“You’re not Lucifer.”

Eve. Where was Eve?

—-

“Um, Samael. Adam told me not to go near this tree.”

Eve had followed the angel, this time a winged serpent, after he told her that he had a gift for her. And Eve loved gifts! Especially gifts from angels. Sera had given her the best gift. She had given her Adam as her husband, and he was everything she could ask for, beautiful and perfect in every way. Michael had also given her a few gifts. From sharing his precious time with them to musical instruments to play lovely melodies. She wondered what this angel would gift her.

Lucifer settled himself on a branch of the tree of knowledge. “Really? Why not?”

Eve remained at her spot, just far enough from the tree, reluctance and worry weighing her down. “Heaven told him so. It was the only rule Heaven had given us.”

The atmosphere felt dense, like a thick blanket that suffocated her. Eve really didn’t want to be here anymore. She was experiencing emotions she didn’t know how to describe, but she knew she didn’t like it. “Adam said that eating a fruit from that tree would lead to dire consequences,” she fiddled with her fingers, wishing that her husband was there to hold her hand.

“Ah, but this is the tree of knowledge,” Lucifer answered. “Adam must be mistaken. Why would knowledge be bad? He has shared knowledge with you, hasn’t he?”

“I…I don’t know.”

Lucifer flew over to her, scaly body bundled atop her head. “That’s alright. Everyone makes mistakes.” His long slender upper body then dangled in front of her. “Wouldn’t it be nice to be the one to share knowledge with Adam this time? I think it would be a nice gift.”

It did sound nice to Eve. To be the one to finally gift her husband something new. She was grateful for all the things he had taught her, and she wanted to somehow repay him back.

That wouldn’t do. The grip of reluctance remained tight on her. Lucifer needed to push her a little further. “I’m an angel of Heaven Eve. I’m supposed to care for humanity. I wouldn’t bring harm to you.”

Adam had told Eve not to listen or trust anyone called Lucifer as he would lie and trick her, but this was Samael, an angel of Heaven. Angels had only ever been good to both her and Adam, so why should this one be any different? Angels wouldn’t lie to her. Plus, the idea of more knowledge did sound appealing to her. To finally be the one to share new things with her husband, to be the one to make his already beautiful eyes shine even brighter with newfound wonder.

Lucifer smiled inwardly. He knew he got her sold.

The serpent got off her head, and started to fly back towards the tree. “Come along then, I’ll help you choose a ripe fruit.”

—-

Adam rushed through prickly bushes, over thick crooked roots, cutting through tangling vines. He didn’t care if bruises or cuts were made across his body, he just needed to reach Eve right now. He was almost there.

Eve please wait for me.

Adam bursted past the tree line, nearly tripping over himself. In front of him was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And on the tree’s branch was a white, winged serpent and Eve in front of it, holding a red fruit to her mouth. There was a crunching sound, and the fruit’s juice slowly dripped down her chin.

“Eve! Stop! Don’t eat that! Spit it out!,” Adam shouted, voice laced with panic.

Eve dropped the fruit in surprise, but listened to what Adam said regardless. Though she had drunk the fruit’s juices, she still tried to expel what she had consumed and spat out the chunk of the fruit that she had bitten. What was happening? Why was her husband here looking distressed and worried?

“Adam? What– what’s happening?” Suddenly, Eve felt weak in her knees, the ground seemingly fast approaching. Her head felt like it was submerged under water as her mind was overwhelmed with knowledge.

Adam rushed to her side, catching her in his arms just before she fell to the ground. She held tight to him, hands shaking as the reality of what happened slowly sinking in. Tears freely flowed down her face. She was afraid. Afraid to lose her husband as she knew she no longer belonged in paradise for having broken the one rule set upon them.

“I– I’m sorry. I’m so sorry Adam!,” she cried as she buried her face in his chest, afraid to face the consequences of her actions.

As much as he felt anger for what happened to her, and pity for her current state, Adam wouldn’t and couldn’t bring himself to lie to her and tell her that everything would be ok. It wouldn’t be fair to her. To give her a last sense of hope when there really wasn’t any other ending for her. So instead, he simply held her close, and held her tight.

The air was still, there were no singing birds, no playful rustling of animals playing around, the air became still and stale. The sky darkened, the clouds thickening and blocked out the sun’s light as it swirled ominously in the sky. A thunderous noise from the skies echoed throughout the silent garden, and a massive hole formed in the middle of the dark swirling clouds. Angels began to descend from the skies, their normally warm presence now cold and intimidating.

Adam looked down at the distressed woman in his arms, still buried in his chest. He brushed his fingers between her soft red locks, committing the feel of it into memory for this may be the last time he could do so.

Time Travel AU Part: 11

A darkness loomed over Eden. Its once clear bright skies were now replaced with dark clouds that swirled in the gloomy sky. Heaven’s portal opened itself with a thunderous boom that echoed throughout the garden. A blinding light appeared from the centre of the swirling clouds, and dark silhouettes of fast descending angels quickly came into view. Their bodies glowing like freezing fire, their presence cold and far away, and eyes…penetrating eyes that burned through the skin and into one’s bones. The angels were not here for a mere visit.

A flash of white-blue wings pierced through the air and into the scene of the incident. Michael landed in front of Adam and Eve, all six wings widely spread out, halo burning in holy fire. He had felt corruption and evil seep and bury its twisted roots within the garden of Eden, and rushed towards where he felt the source was. For once, he had hoped he was wrong, but half eaten fruit that laid on the ground near the two humans proved him otherwise.

“W-what happened?,” he asked in disbelief.

“The second woman, Eve, had ignored her husband’s warning and thus, broken God’s rule,” Sera stated as she landed gracefully beside Michael, looking down on Eve’s trembling form still under Adam’s arms. “She had released evil into the world.”

Michael crouched in front of both Adam and Eve, and softly asked, “Why Eve? How could you do such a thing?”

Just then a struggling Lilith was brought out from the trees, hands held behind her back by an angel.

“We found her disguised as a snake, running towards the garden entrance.”

Another angel had cast a spell to track Lilith’s partner in this crime. Golden dust quickly spread from the angel and outwards to the rest of the garden. The spell hit something within the branches of the tree of knowledge, and a winged serpent with a silent presence was forcibly returned to its original form, an angel with red and white wings known for their mischievous nature. Lucifer fell to the ground, his disguise ruined.

“Eve had been tricked into eating the fruit by Lucifer,” Adam answered Michael. “Lilith disguised herself as Lucifer to distract and keep me away from Eve as Lucifer tricked her. I tried to stop Eve, but I was too late.” Adam looked at Michael with tearful eyes as he kept his hold on Eve, who remained quiet as she hid in Adam’s comforting embrace, despite trembling himself.

Lucifer stood up from where he fell, all six wings flaring defensively. “All we tried to do was give her knowledge and free will!” He then turned to Adam, finger accusingly pointing at him. “We only did that because Adam cannot be trusted! He hides it well from the rest of you, but I’ve observed him and he is far from innocent. I’ve seen him teach Eve terrible things such as the killing of animals. We only wanted to save Eve!”. He gasped for breath as his eyes scanned the angels that surrounded him. They remained silent, but their eyes showed a lack of faith. He then turned to Michael. Their personalities were quite different, and they clashed a few times before, but they were brothers and they knew each other well. Michael should know that he wouldn’t lie about things such as this, that this wasn’t another one of his tricks.

“Michael, you’ve spent some time with them. Surely, you’ve noticed Adam’s behaviour too?,” he asked with pleading eyes, hoping that he would believe him.

“You said you’ve observed Adam?,” asked Michael, his tone even.

“Yes? I told you I saw him corrupting Eve’s mind,” Lucifer answered.

“Then that means you were sneaking into the garden all this time despite being banished.” Michael narrowed his eyes at Lucifer, his cold blue gaze freezing him on his spot. “It seems like this was premeditated.”

“What? That’s not the point! I– ack!” Lucifer fell to his knees as chains wrapped around his limbs and his neck, bringing him close to the ground.

“You’ve been sneaking into the garden for an unknown amount of time, cooking up your wicked plans and dragged the first woman to go along with it, and yet, you point your finger towards the first man?,” Michael questioned Lucifer as he stood above his defeated form. How dare Lucifer spread such ridiculous lies about Adam when the man had been nothing but remain obedient towards Heaven? Yes, it was true he had been visiting Eden frequently as of late, and Adam was anything but malicious.

The look on Michael’s face was of anger and disappointment, but mostly anger. Anger at his brother’s audacity and actions. “Wasn’t it enough that you had taken his first wife?,” he continued. “Now, you ruin his second, release evil into the world, and then spread lies about Adam. When is it ever enough, Lucifer? What’s your goal here?”

Hope all but drained from Lucifer’s already pale face. He couldn’t believe it. His straight-laced brother who was always the voice of reason was completely blinded by Adam’s lies and pretend innocence. In the background, he could see Adam’s figure just behind Michael. Their eyes met briefly, no words exchanged between them, but the message was sent. Realisation crashing at him hard like gigantic waves in a stormy ocean. Adam had purposely been appealing to Michael. All those times he had seen him spend time with his brother. It wasn’t just to drive Lucifer away from him, to stop him collecting evidence. It was also his way of slowly securing his spot in Michael’s heart. Lucifer realised too late. He had lost his brother to Adam. He once again did a quick sweep of the angels that surrounded him. This time, he saw it clearly. None of them were on his side. Not even his brother.

“You all have heard Michael,” Sera interrupted. “Your claims are unfounded Lucifer. The results of your actions, however, are very much real.”

A cold heavenly glow then engulfed the seraphim, her tall figure a pillar of absolute authority amongst the crowd. “As High Seraphim of Heaven and by the authority bestowed upon me, Lucifer, I strip you of your status as an angel. Angels are the righteous followers of God, which you clearly are not.” The glow around her shone even brighter, almost blinding. Her six wings spread out magnificently as she brought down judgement, “You will be exiled to the burning pit that you have caused to be formed.” She then turned to Lilith, piercing gaze softening slightly, her wrath simmering a little in consideration of her human nature, but still present. “Lilith, for being his willing accomplice, shall join Lucifer to burn in the dark pit where you can only ever witness the dark side of life that you have released and none of the good that you have betrayed.”

A coldness washed over Lucifer. The reality of the situation dragging him to dark depths he didn’t know even ever existed. Many thoughts and feelings all at once hurled at him, drowning him in a sea of confusion and disbelief. Was this really happening? How was it even possible? He was one of God’s most favoured angels! There was no way this could be real. Snapping out of his shock, Lucifer began to struggle, unwilling to relent to their judgement. They’ve all gone blind. But despite his efforts, the chains remained unyielding and instead became shorter, its grip on him tighter. The chains forced him to fall on the ground, his back exposed to the air. A set of footsteps approached his prone form, and panic swallowed him whole once he heard the sound of a sword being unsheathed in front of him. His struggles intensified, and he could hear Lilith on the side yelling for them to stop. But they weren’t stopping. The presence of the cold blade inched closer and closer.

Someone grasped the base of his wings, holding its trembling and struggles still. “Please don’t make this any harder than it needs to be. It will only hurt more if you struggle.”

With his face pressed to the ground, Lucifer couldn’t see who held the sword to his wings. But that voice. That seemingly apologetic tone belonged to someone who he thought was the voice reason. Someone who was always willing to listen to both sides. But it seemed that Lucifer was mistaken. Michael was just another one of Heaven’s dogs.

With a sharp inhale as his only warning, Lucifer felt the biting pain of his wings being separated from his being one by one. Michael tried to be swift with it, but there was no reducing the anguish of one’s nature being separated from itself. The pain burned through the stubs of what his wings used to be, seeping through his bones and spreading throughout his body, leaving Lucifer gasping and crying helplessly on the ground. There was nothing to catch his fall now.

The angels watched in stunned silence. No one had ever had their wings cut before. It was such an integral part of an angel’s being. Others look on, nodding their heads in agreement, while others look away, unable to bear the sight of their former companion writhing in unimaginable pain. With most of the angels stupefied, Lilith managed to slip free from the grasp of the angel holding her and rushed to her beloved’s side. His robes were stained and soaked golden, his breathing erratic and shallow, but he was alive. Lilith protectively wrapped her arms around Lucifer, careful not to agitate the wounds fresh on his back.

“You–! How could all of you do this to your kind?!,” she shouted at the angels. “You say humans are perfect, and yet I’ve been banished for my choice. You claimed Lucifer to be one of you, and yet you refuse to entertain anything he says. You’re all just liars, blinded by your own ego! There’s no freedom here. Be it in Eden or Heaven.”

The earth began to rumble, and soon cracks formed on the ground beneath the accused lovers. Heat seeped through the soil as the ground began to soften as it gradually caved down. Lucifer managed to look up, the chains on his limbs no longer holding him down.

“Michael, please..!,” he sobbed. Tears flowed freely from his eyes as desperation and fear flooded his being. He didn’t know precisely what would happen, but he knew there was no turning back if it did.

Michael was angry at both Lucifer and Lilith, sure, but that didn’t mean he wanted this to happen to them. To see his own brother broken like this, and done so by his own two hands, it hurt and filled him with guilt, but Lucifer and Lilith’s actions were not something that could be forgiven. To disrespect God in such a way was an unforgivable sin. So, he turned his head away from them, unable to look at them anymore for it would burn him up.

“I’m sorry Lucifer, but Heaven is done being lenient with you.”

The ground caved in even more, slowly sinking further in heated depths. Lilith held onto Lucifer, heartbroken by his brother’s betrayal. Fear settled in both of their hearts, grasping it and choking it, intending to leave a permanent scar. For a brief moment Lucifer locked eyes with Adam, who was still seated on the ground with Eve in his arms. Molten gold eyes that seemed to melt through his very being, threatening to swallow him whole. Adam tilted his head towards Eve’s enacting a loving embrace. His smirk all but gleeful at Lucifer’s imminent downfall. Deja vu struck Lucifer. It was just like back then, at the gates of Eden. Adam acted all smug, no signs of fear or confusion on his face as if he knew what would happen all along.

Adam mouthed silently at Lucifer, “I guess you lose. Again.”

Before Lucifer could fully register his words, a great rumbling shook Eden once more and the ground beneath both him and Lilith opened up devouring the two of them towards their hellish fate. Their screams filled the air and echoed in the burning abyss down below until the ground closed up, sealing the two lover’s fate.

“Now, Eve.”

Time Travel AU Part: 12

[Gotta be honest, I struggled to write this chapter. The creative juices just wasn't flowing 🫤. Also might have been half asleep while writing this.]

“Now, Eve.”

Sera directed the attention to the distressed woman still in Adam’s embrace. Fear, guilt and shame all flooded her recently reformed and fragile mind. She folded into herself, afraid to face the new reality she had subjected herself into.

“For disregarding the warnings given to you by eating the only fruit forbidden to you, you have caused evil to be released into the world,” Sera announced as she stepped closer to Eve. “You are to be expelled from paradise and must work the ground for your food. Blisters will form on your hands, your legs will be permeated with fatigue.” She stopped just in front of the woman, her eyes softening up a little as she looked down at the trembling woman. Eve’s cries a loud echo in the silence of the garden, her despair a suffocating blanket that pervaded the air.

“However, you will not be alone to face this hardship,” Sera continued, her words careful and slow this time. “You will be given a companion, made from a part of you.” This time, Eve looked up from Adam’s chest, puffy red eyes wide with shock and confusion.

“What? Why?,” Eve asked in a trembling voice.

“Heaven refuses to make another human from Eden’s soil only to become corrupted with sin, nor are we willing to send Adam out with you as he had remained pure and free of sin,” Sera answered in a blunt and absolute manner, leaving no room for arguments.

But Eve didn’t care. Sera could dangle her authority over her all she wanted, but Eve wasn’t going to just allow them to separate her from her husband like that! At least not without resisting.

“But Adam is my husband,” she tried to argue. “I was made from him to become his wife. I am, quite truly, a part of him. We’re meant for each other, made for each other. You can’t separate us!”

Murmurs quickly spread amongst the angels gathered around the two humans. A palpable sense of indecision filled the air as others were convinced by Eve’s reasoning, finding it to be sound, while some remained steadfast in their initial judgement, preferring to secure their only remaining untainted human. Sera herself seemed to be a little less confident in her initial decree.

Sera decided to consult the opinion of one of her and Heaven’s most respected archangels, Michael. He was always of sound mind and saw things fairly. Plus, other than Lucifer, he had the most knowledge about the garden and the humans in it. If he deemed Adam and Eve inseparable, then she would trust his judgement. While the other angels discussed amongst themselves, Sera quietly asked the archangel, “What do you think, Michael? Should we allow Adam to leave with Eve?”

The question hit Michael like a storm. Conflict occupied his mind, whirling scattered thoughts around. What did he think? Normally, Michael prided himself to be fair and just, unwilling to let biases cloud his judgement, but… All he could think of right now was that he didn’t want Adam to leave because that meant he wouldn’t be able to spend time with Adam anymore. He wanted him to stay in the garden with him. But the idea of being the cause of Adam and Eve’s separation, the separation of husband and wife, didn’t sit well with him at all. He felt like he’d just be doing what Lucifer did, except this time he would be keeping Adam away from Eve.

After he gave it some more thought, his conflicting feelings clashing against each other, he finally answered, “How about we let Adam decide?”

Though the words that left his mouth gave Adam the freedom of choice, his mind secretly hoped that Adam would choose to stay. I don’t want him to suffer a difficult life. The world outside of Eden was dangerous and difficult and he had come to think of the first man as a precious friend. Although deep down, his heart knew why he truly wanted Adam to stay, despite having smothered the thoughts and convincing himself otherwise. Of course, he cared for Eve as well, but there was no changing her fate. Adam’s fate on the other hand, was not yet sealed.

“Everyone,” Sera’s voice rang across the still debating crowd. “We will let Adam choose instead.” She then faced Adam, her brows slightly furrowed, lips in a thin line, a serious look in her silvery eyes. “Adam, do you wish to leave the garden and be with your wife? Think about it carefully.”

Eve turned to Adam, dishevelled red hair that stuck to her face, tearful blue eyes full of worry as she grasped both of his hands tightly. A silent plea for her husband to not leave her side. Adam looked down at the small soft hands that desperately latched onto his. It was a sad sight really, heart breaking even. In another life, he had suffered and endured earthly life with her for almost a millennia. He had starved with her, gotten sick with her and watched their children die with her. He had also explored the new world with her, created new things with her and raised their children with her. But that was another life. And that life was already over. Ever since he woke up in this new life, he already knew what his choice would be. He made up his mind a long time ago, and it wasn’t bound to change now.

Adam kept his gaze down at his hands grasped by Eve, eyes completely unreadable. He sighed to himself, he would’ve preferred to not have Eve kicked out, but what was done was done. Well, here’s to one last pretend. Adam blinked a few times before looking Eve straight in the eyes with a sincere, but saddened look.

He squeezed Eve’s hand, firmly but not too hard. With a wistful smile plastered on his face, he said, “Eve, I care for you deeply and I love you as my wife. Every moment with you was irreplaceable, and I want us to remain together…” Adam looked away and back down at their still connected hands. “But Eden is where I am closest to God, and I cannot imagine living without his light.” Eve’s hand trembled in his as tears fell onto his skin. “I’m sorry, but please understand this wasn’t an easy choice.”

Eve pulled her hands away from Adam, resting them over her chest. Betrayal invaded her whole being and tears started to flow freely from her rainy blue eyes as she let the sorrow that pierced her heart spill out. Her husband, Adam, had been nothing but loving to her since the first time they met under a tree. When he cried happy tears for her, the warmest smile on his lips. How did it end up like this? For him to suddenly be willing to abandon her when they had been inseparable since the beginning. Amongst the sorrow and disbelief, there was also hurt and a spark of anger amongst other things, all vying to escape and make itself known to the world outside. But those chaotic feelings she just had to accept, having deserved this outcome for having betrayed her husband first, though she hadn’t meant to. Eve shut her eyes tight, hoping that once she opened them again, she would find herself under Eden's twinkling night sky lying beside a peacefully sleeping Adam. But when she opened them again, all she saw was that she was alone this time.

—-

The reddening rays of the setting sun reflected off the grand gates of Eden giving it a soft golden glow. It would have been an inviting sight if it were not for the fact that Eve was going to pass through it with no hope of turning back. Eve stood just in front of it, sunken eyes staring at it with blank sorrow.

Sera placed a cool hand on one of Eve’s shoulders. “While we would no longer visit you like we did before, know that God has not abandoned you.” She gently squeezed Eve’s shoulder in an attempt to give her some semblance of comfort and hope. Though corrupted, there was still hope that the second woman’s soul could be saved so long as she lived the rest of her life outside Eden as righteously as possible.

Eve shifted her gaze from Eden’s gates back towards the garden to give a final look to her first home and her first love. Adam opened his arms towards her in a final embrace and she swiftly took it. Her eyes dampened once more, but she had shed enough tears for today. From now on, she had no choice but to be stronger, not for anyone but for herself. The softness of his flawless skin, his warm earthy smell that always relaxed her, his silky brown locks she loved to comb with her fingers, and his lustrous golden eyes that were more beautiful than anything she had ever seen. Eve burned all of these sensations in her mind, to keep as precious memories for eternity. A soft kiss on her head and doleful eyes told her that it was time to go.

“Farewell.”

Adam watched Eve’s form go through Eden’s gate until it had completely swallowed her, dooming her to a harsh life on Earth. It might just be the last time he’d ever see her. Did he change anything by preventing her from swallowing the apple? Was her soul at least salvageable this time? He hoped so, though he wouldn’t really know until much later. Still, he hoped. For old times sake.

Though his eyes were dry, the gloom in them was quite real this time. He knew there was a very high chance that this would still happen and he had prepared himself for this moment; steeled his resolve not to leave with her. And while this was a different life now, and he had long ago moved from his love, in a way, the person that just left was still Eve. He had cared for her in his past life as she had for him, and some of that care still lingered even into this life. She was just that special he supposed.

There had never been such a day in Eden. Dark grey clouds threatening to cry, animals silenced in lament, plants dulled and without their usual flourishing vibrance. Somehow all of these reflected in Adam’s eyes. The funeral of happier times. And Michael was one of the mourners. He had scrubbed his hands clean so many times already today that somehow it seemed to have gotten paler, bits of skin peeling off. Yet somehow, it still felt wet and warm and stained golden. Never would he have thought to ever witness that much angel blood, and for him to be the one to have spilt it. This was what it meant to be God’s sword, to be the hand that cuts down the wicked. He knew that, but still, this was something he never could have prepared for, and hoped not to ever need to prepare for.

Michael stood beside Adam, both attendees to this funeral. A funeral of letting go of a loved one and being painted as a traitor in their eyes. Though he hated having to acknowledge it, there was a noticeable part inside of Michael that felt relief at Adam’s decision to remain in the garden. He hated it. Finding some sort of silver lining at Eve’s departure when it had clearly hurt Adam. This was simply another thing he had to keep to himself.

Two attendees at today's funeral. Michael spread out his wings, letting one side drape over Adam. Mourners might as well stick together.

“It’s okay, just let it out,” Michael spoke softly.

Adam’s lips quivered and silent tears rolled down his cheeks. Just this one instance he would lower down his walls. The wings draped around him gently pressed and directed his head to lean onto the angel, and Adam allowed him to.

A pat on the back and the warm embrace of soft wings were Michael’s attempt to comfort the human beside him. He had seen the human upset before, like when Lilith first left him and he was alone in the garden, but he had never seen him cry. Michael leaned back his head towards Adam’s and whispered a promise he made long ago. The promise of companionship.

“They may have left, but I promise to remain with you.”

Adam chuckled bitterly to himself. This wasn’t what he truly wanted to gain when first woke back up in the garden. All he wanted was to remain in Eden and live the life that he was always meant to live. But whatever. It felt nice, Michael’s presence actually a solace to him. And so he let the moment continue.

In the Time Travel AU, would Adam be on the bottom or is this more of a switch situation?

So, I'm actually an exclusively bottom Adam enjoyer. But for this au, I'm not sure if it matters too much since I'm still undecided if I'll write anything explicit. Not because I don't want to write it, but because I've no experience at all 🥲.

I do have a scene in later chapters where it would work, but again, I don't think I have the skill for that 🥲.

But yeah, in my head anyway, Adam bottoms, and he'll have a crisis about it lol.

Time Travel AU Part: 13

[I struggled writing this. Again! I feel like all this science stuff I'm doing again is draining my creativity 🥲]

It had only been one day since Eve’s banishment from Eden, and yet the angels were all already discussing the future of humanity, the garden and Adam himself. Adam was sat beside Michael in the circle of stressed angels, all too engaged in their debate. Adam wasn’t even initially supposed to present in this meeting, but apparently Michael, ever so thoughtful, suggested that the first man be involved in the discussion regarding his possible future. And Adam would appreciate the gesture if only he didn’t have to bear witness and suffer through Heaven’s bureaucracy. It was one of the few things he actually hated when he used to be an angel. The meeting began early in the morning and the afternoon was fast approaching, and yet they still haven’t broached the topic about Adam.

Damn angels and their obsession with order. Adam could feel his eyes drooping, his head nodding off, the discussion a soothing background noise; boredom and exhaustion weighed heavily on him. Beside him, Michael noticed Adam’s quickly slipping attention. Humans after all, didn’t have the same stamina and durability that angels had.

“Pardon me, I’m sure these are all very important, but can we get to the topic about Adam? It’s why he’s here to begin with,” Michael gestured towards the sleepy human. “We can continue the discussion about the others after this.”

Seeing Adam’s drained figure, the angels all agreed to pause their current discussion for later and put away their current notes, switching them for ones related to the new topic. As usual, Sera was the one to start the dialogue. With a clap of her hands, the attention focused back on her as she began to talk.

“Alright. Following Eve’s banishment from the garden of Eden, we were faced with a problem regarding their propagation. Eve’s new companion, who will be created using a part of her, will be made in the following days.” Sera placed both of her hands on the table as she looked at Adam. “Adam, you are now without a companion. We planned on creating a new companion for you but…” She glanced at Michael. “Michael had suggested we consult you first. He mentioned something about your possibly…troubled state.”

A new partner for him in Eden? Someone untainted by the fruit of knowledge? While the idea of being with someone, who was also safe and away from both Lucifer and Lilith, didn’t seem so bad, it was also someone new. Someone Adam would know nothing about, meaning another unpredictable factor. Who knows, maybe this new person would be similar to Eve or they could also turn out to be like Lilith. Either way, they would be an unknown factor. And after finally securing Eden for himself, he didn’t want to add more potential risks, especially not when he was already in uncharted territory. That and, well, the idea of opening up to someone like that again hadn’t crossed his mind for over many millennia now, and he sure wasn’t going to start again.

Adam adjusted himself on his seat, carefully thinking about the words he would say and the emotions he should express in front of the angels. With downcast eyes he answered, “I…after Eve…I don’t think I could ever be ready to be with someone new again.” Adam let a few tears slide down his cheeks, a little sniffle here and there, maybe some subtle trembling. Really, anything to gain the angels’ sympathy and pity.

The sight of Adam seemingly in anguish over Eve’s betrayal and absence crushed many of the angels’ hearts. How pitiful. For such a delicate creature to experience such a horrible tragedy. They couldn’t imagine the scars that such events had placed on his little heart. God’s most perfect creation, traumatised under the clutches of Lucifer and Lilith. Sera placed a hand over her own heart, clearly affected by Adam’s act. “Adam, are you certain you don’t wish for a new partner?”

Adam meekly shook his head. “I think I’ve had enough.”

—-

The late afternoon sun’s gradually cooling rays shone over the serenity of the garden, coating everything in its soft orange hue. Adam leaned back against a tree as he watched the other inhabitants of the garden prepare for the incoming darkness. It was a bit odd. To have all of the garden to himself in peaceful silence. He had gotten used to a high pitched voice that used to always eagerly drag him along the garden in search of new things to try out. It was about this time of the day when he would join Eve, along with Amora, to gather tonight’s dinner. Adam felt a heavy nudge on his shoulder, and was greeted with large yellow eyes when he turned.

“Guess it’s just you and me now, huh?,” muttered Adam as he allowed the big cat to lay its head on his lap. “What? Are you trying to comfort me?,” he chuckled. His fingers lazily petted the jaguar’s soft fur, the warmth a welcome presence in Eden’s gradually cooling air.

Now what? Adam had achieved what he wanted, and of course he was happy that could stay in Eden away from both Lilith and Lucifer, he was also happy not to have to suffer a harsh life outside the garden. But he also couldn’t help but be a little anxious about the future. This was where things would start to really change, and while he was confident in himself, he could still only hope that this future he had carved for himself would be better than the one he had previously.

A familiar flapping of three pairs of wings interrupted Adam’s musings. He knew the owner of those wings. Only he would visit the first man in the garden at such a time. Adam turned to face the angel; a knowing look and a silent nod for a greeting. It seemed suitable enough for the late afternoon’s current undertone.

Michael found himself a spot beside the first man, close but not too close. The two sat in comfortable silence, simply enjoying the sinking sun as it tinted everything in orange, before the angel uttered a word. “About your decision earlier… Are you certain with what you’ve decided?”

Adam kept his gaze on the horizon, his figure drowning in the sinking rays as it painted him all over like melting gold in a hot furnace. “I’m certain,” he uttered.

It was one of the few things he was certain of in his newly carved future. He had lived for 10,000 years, and not once did he ever need it. There were some similar things, like his relationship with his exorcists. Each and every one of his girls were dear to him, even that traitorous Vaggie used to have a spot in his heart. Then there was Lute, who he had doted on the most. And while all of those ties were real in their own right, none of them were ever introduced to the cavernous depths of his soul. After living for so long, he realised he didn’t need it, or maybe it simply just wasn’t meant for him. That was fine for him, it was less messy that way, and he intended to keep things neat in this life too.

“But won’t you feel lonely?,” Michael asked. “Being the only one… of your kind I mean.”

Though the words were directed at Adam, Michael’s wistful gaze divulged another story. Even ever since his body was formed from stardust and golden ichor first flowed throughout his body, Michael always hadn’t been the most sociable angel. He got along fine with the rest, but there was always a disconnect. Lucifer’s fall seemed to have resulted in only widening that gap, with others seemingly keeping their distance on purpose after knowing what he was capable of. He supposed that was to be expected, he was, after all, the only angel in Heaven who had the blood of his own kin in his hands. True, he had no choice in the matter, it couldn’t be helped, but the others also couldn’t help what they felt.

Adam mulled over Michael’s words. He wasn’t sure if he would call it loneliness, but being the only person in the garden did make him feel isolated at times. Though he supposed it wasn’t really that bad. He looked back down at Amora who was snuggling on his lap, a content look on her furry face. The slow rise and fall of her chest, the warmth from her large body that she happily shared with him. Adam may be very different from the rest of Eden’s inhabitants, but he felt very welcomed and at home all the same.

“It’s not so bad,” Adam answered, a faint smile on his lips as he brushed Amora’s fur. “I’ve got the animals with me. They never let me feel lonely. And then there’s also you.”

“And that’s enough for you?”

“I’m just happy to have a home.” Adam would want for more. He had always yearned for more, to learn and experience more new things. It was why he invented so many things. From useless decorative items to important life saving techniques. In fact, one of the reasons he proposed the exterminations, besides wanting to fuck with Lucifer and Lilith, was to escape the monotony of Heaven. The exterminations allowed him to experience new things; sinners with their grotesque forms, hellish food that could kill you in a variety of ways, a chaotic society that easily shifted day by day. It was fun, plain and simple, but it was also a wandering kind of fun. If fun new things meant he would lose paradise, his home, then he would rather not take it. Dying and waking back up in Eden made him realise how he lived like a wanderer in his previous life. Moving from place to place in search of something different, but never truly having a permanent place for himself. He would have to learn to hold back some of his inclinations and unnecessary wants this time, now that he got a hold of his home back. Having a place to belong far outweighed ‘the fun stuff’. Besides, Eden was fun in its own right. It had all kinds of animals that would happily play with him despite being deadly if they were outside the garden, the garden itself was big enough to contain various landscapes from rainforests to open deserts, and most importantly, it didn’t have other people who would ruin his day, at least not anymore anyway.

There was this inexplicable look in Adam’s eyes when he answered Michael’s question. Like a wistful longing; something akin to nostalgia, like he was holding something dear that he had only found again. Just at this moment, with the sinking sun reflecting on his already golden eyes, Michael saw in Adam, just an inkling, what seemed to be an eternity of life and experience. It was surreal, it was as if there was a whole other world within the human unbeknownst to anyone but the man himself, though he knew it couldn’t be possible. So instead, he turned his gaze back to the slowly fading sun.

What was home?

The archangel, of course, had Heaven, the place he first woke up in, the place he had spent the most time in, and the place he always returned to. Though with the recent events, that place had become a little less comforting, a little more alienating. It was still the same but also different. It was like Lucifer had never fallen, but the void of his absence permeated the atmosphere. Heaven had become uncomfortable. But Eden remained a simple comfort. Michael wrapped his wings around himself. The garden was still here and so were the animals. Then there was also Adam. Maybe that was also enough for him.

Time Travel AU Part: 14

Michael had been spending a lot more time in the garden. His visits had become a daily occurrence where he would spend hours with the first man before returning to Heaven at the end of the day. Adam didn’t really mind having the angel around. While he didn’t enjoy having to hide who he truly was whenever the angel was there, having someone to talk to and could reply back was something he welcomed. After having spent more time and actually getting to know the angel, Michael was not what Adam had expected. He was sure the guy was just doing his job of looking after the garden, but the daily visits, the small gifts here and there, and just coming by to ‘spend time’ with him… In Adam’s previous life, he never really talked to the angel. Not because they hated each other, it was more like Adam thought they just would never get along so he never bothered to know the guy. Adam was loud, Michael kept to himself; Adam liked to push Heaven’s boundaries, Michael was a stickler for the rules; Adam liked his parties, Michael was barely seen outside of work. In short, they seemed to be polar opposites. And yet, here they were playing board games as if they were best buddies.

“But then maybe it’s because of the act I put on,” Adam mused as he waited for Michael to finish his turn. His eyes trailed the angel’s hand as Michael moved a piece across the checkered board and took out his bishop. Another piece he lost. The game wasn’t looking too good for Adam.

“I was wondering,” Adam started, cheek resting on his palm. “Doesn’t Heaven require a lot of your time?”

Michael looked up from the board, his focus broken by Adam’s sudden question. “Oh. Well, I’m quite efficient so I have some spare time,” he replied as he placed the fallen bishop piece on the grass on his side of the board.

Adam simply hummed in response. Heaven was pretty demanding, but since this was at the start of time, he supposed the workload hadn’t arrived and piled up yet. He shifted his attention back to the game in front of him. The number of pieces he had were dwindling. Only a few pawns remained, two knights, a tower, his queen and, of course, the king. He pondered about putting a few pieces at risk, maybe even sacrificing some of them, just so he could get rid of Michael’s queen piece. Risky, but it could turn the tide. After giving it some more thought, Adam decided his next move. His hand reluctantly placed a knight in line of sight of Michael’s tower piece.

Hands hovered above the board, pieces moved across closer to victory or sacrificed and taken out, and then after a while, a checkmate to end the game. Adam eyed the board in front of him, he just lost the game. With a defeated sigh, he plopped down onto the soft grass on his back, his head dull and heavy from having to think of his moves and counter moves against Michael.

“Adam?,” Michael asked, a hint of concern in his voice. “Are you alright?”

“No,” replied Adam. “You’ve vanquished me and destroyed my kingdom. How can I be alright?” He dramatically waved his hand in the air before letting them back down onto the grass with a soft flump. He turned to his side and met Amora’s board gaze staring back at him. “You’ll avenge me, won't you girl?”

The jaguar simply snorted in response as she turned her head away from the first man.

“Well, you’ve only been getting, so I also had to improve myself to keep up,” Michael chuckled with fondness at Adam’s dramatics. With a snap of his fingers, the wooden board and its pieces vanished in a poof of silver smoke. “By the way,” Michael continued as he inched a little nervously closer to the human, who was still lying flat on the grass. “I remembered you said you’d like the instrument you made, the guitar I think it was, to somehow be made of metals.” He placed a hand on his nape and looked a little sheepishly in a random direction. “I still have some time to spare, so if you want, I can help you with that…”

As if a freezing bucket of water was splashed on him, Adam immediately sat up, his golden eyes sparkling brighter than any star in the sky, an excited childish smile on his lips as he grasped Michael’s hand in astonishment. “Really?!”

The angel’s face became tinted with yellow as warmth rushed to his cheeks at the humans' sudden close proximity. He looked down at his hand encaged between Adam’s soft warm hands, stupefied by the sensations he was feeling. “Uh, uhm, yes?” He cleared his throat, “I mean, yes. If you’d like to.”

Without a second thought, Adam kept a hand held onto Michael’s hand as he dragged the angel towards a specific direction.

The two arrived in a large cave in a corner of the garden. The dark cave glistened and sparkled with various colours as the little light that entered the cave reflected off of the numerous gems and metals that coated the cave’s walls, like distant stars on an expanding night sky.

“You know, I could have just made the materials you wanted,” Michael commented as he watched Adam examine some colourful rocks with intense scrutiny.

“Nono, I’d like it to be made from Eden,” Adam answered, his focus still on the ores as he carefully looked for gold.

Not really understanding what the human was looking for, Michael moved beside Adam trying to follow what his eyes were looking for. “Okay, so what should I look for?”

Adam held up a small rock in front of Michael. It was jagged simple grey rock if not for the spots of gold scattered all across the rock. “Something like this, except we’re going to need way waaay more. My guitar is going to be perfect!,” Adam excitedly replied, his own eyes sparkling brighter than any of the precious stones and metals in the massive cave.

Michael took the small ore from Adam’s hand, turning it over in his hand as he carefully examined it. The angel thought it was oddly specific; of all the materials Adam could’ve chosen, like it was something he had been wanting for a while now. He looked up again to see Adam already looking for more of that gold speckled rock, his excitement radiating off of him as it bounced off the walls of the cave, infecting even Michael myself. A satisfied feeling warmed his entire being, knowing he was the reason for the first man’s current happiness. Of all the precious materials he could choose from this cave, he would choose this without a second thought.

The two spent time looking for gold and silver ores. Occasionally, Adam would take out some ores from the container that Michael had picked, or stop the angel from picking it in the first place. “Nono, that’s pyrite not gold,” Adam corrected. He would put a gold ore beside a chalcopyrite ore and try to highlight the difference between the two, while Michael would try to spot the differences but clearly have some difficulty with it.

“I don’t know how you can tell immediately,” Michael remarked, still holding the two different ores.

“I just can,” Adam shrugged as he put another ore into the container. “There. That should be enough.” He wiped some sweat off his forehead. The hard part was done. Now, it was time for some magic.

“We won’t use the entire rock?,” inquired Michael.

“No, I just need your help to extract and shape these,” Adam pointed into the coloured specks on the grey rocks.

With a simple wave of the angel’s hand, the precious metals embedded on the rocks flowed out like liquid through the air as he meticulously shaped them according to his human companion’s wishes. A body consisting mainly of gold, lined with silver at the bottom; a silver neck, and a golden headstock shaped like a lyre. It was a beautiful design, unlike anything Michael had seen before. A heavenly item made from the garden of Eden.

As soon as it was finished, the golden guitar floated down into the hands of its new owner. Adam gasped in awe when he felt the cool metal hit his skin. Its smooth shiny surface, the intricate carvings, the sound it emitted when he strummed the strings. It was exactly just like his old guitar when he was an angel. It even had that faint heavenly glow! His hands shook from the sheer joy and excitement of having his guitar back.

“Do you want to try play some music with it?,” Michael suggested, his smile warm from the bubbling happiness from inside him.

Adam shifted the guitar in his arms until it felt right and comfortable, just like back then. His fingers brushed over the strings, strumming it lightly, before he played an alluring melody that echoed faintly within the cave, giving it an otherworldly tone.

“This song’s for you Michael. As thanks for helping me make this guitar.”

—-

Adam dragged his feet back towards his favourite tree where Amora laid waiting. The sun had set a few minutes ago, the sky had turned from a pinkish orange to purple-blue with the stars blinking one by one as they awoke from their day-long slumber. The day had been long, but eventful and fulfilling. He placed the golden guitar carefully on the ground before allowing himself to slump down beside Amora, her spotted fur always a soft thing to hug against.

He let out a deep satisfied sigh as he released Amora from his hug and turned to lay on his back. More stars had started to show on the darkening night sky, the moon slowly inching its way to the highest point of the night.

“You know, I didn’t think Michael would be that nice,” he told the jaguar. “Waaay nicer and better than that snake Lucifer. Definitely the cooler brother.” He sat up and held the new guitar up to show Amora. “Look! He even made me this guitar! Isn’t it cool?”

Amora simply gave the guitar a bored stare before lying her head back down on the soft grass.

“You’re so mean sometimes you know,” huffed Adam as he let exhaustion drag him back down towards the grass.

The sky tonight was absent of any clouds, never-ending a dark blue canvas that expanded beyond the eye could see, speckled with white shining glitter all over it, and a bright round moon that commanded silent attention from all. The night’s cool breeze glided over his skin, taking away the excess warmth from his day activities, the stillness of the dark, a lullaby that encouraged his eyes to close and for his body to rest.

Adam let out a yawn, sleep was calling to him. “Honestly, I’m glad to have someone like Michael as a friend.”

A loud, almost mocking, snort stopped the first man from falling into sleep. He turned his head to face the disapproving look of the jaguar. “There you go again. What’s with that look?,” asked Adam, completely bewildered by Amora’s recent behaviour. “You used to be much sweeter…”

And because she’s an animal, Amora couldn’t talk the way Adam did. So, she communicated what she meant by moving closer to the human and draping her large paw over him almost like a suffocating embrace.

“Wha– Hey!,” cried out Adam, his voice slightly muffled by the fluff that was suddenly on him.

Despite his struggles, Amora easily kept Adam still beneath her paw and began to lick his head, like a mother grooming her precious child who still knew nothing about the things around him.

Time Travel AU Part: 15

[Thank you @inubaki for the idea for this chapter!

Also, feel free to listen to the video below to know the kind of music Michael and Adam were playing.]

“Say Michael, do you play any instruments at all?,” asked Adam as he laid on his stomach watching the angel panic as the garlic got burnt in his apparently new invention, the pan. Michael scrapped the blackened garlic off of the pan with Adam’s other new invention, the spatula, but ended up using magic to clear the pan of the burnt seasoning.

“Oh that’s because your fire’s too hot and you put the garlic too early,” pointed out Adam casually.

The angel expressed interest in Adam’s daily routine, and had initially thought that the first man mainly ate fruits and nuts. And so, Adam had reminded Michael when he first taught him how to cook some sort of soup when he was unwell.

‘Oh, so you ‘cook’ everyday?,” asked Michael curiously.

“Yup. Fruits and nuts are nice, but some variety is also nice, you know?,” Adam replied as he picked vegetables and mushrooms to have for breakfast. He was planning on some nice fried eggs, but then the angel suddenly visited him so early in the morning, and that would be something he didn’t want to explain to the angel. So it was a veggie breakfast for today.  Why was Michael even visiting him this early? He liked having someone to talk to, but he swore the angel was acting more and more odd.

Michael hovered behind Adam, wings fluttering lightly as he watched him do his morning tasks. “Can I help?”

Adam remembered the disaster that was the vegetable soup and how long it took Michael to make one that was edible and mentally snorted to himself. “Sure, if you want.” Adam thought it would be funny to watch such a respected angel fail miserably at such simple tasks.

And it was funny, at least for the first 20 minutes but the sun was almost at its highest point in the sky and Michael had restarted over four times already, and yet here was Adam with no breakfast. He didn’t realise how much of a perfectionist Michael was and was now reaping the consequences of his actions.

“Every angel knows how to play an instrument,” answered Michael. “It’s a skill we’re all born with,” he continued as he grabbed three more cloves of garlic and minced them with such speed and finesse one would think he was a great cook.

“And what do you play?” Adam got up from his spot and walked over to Michael. It was nice to have someone cook for him, but he was starving at this point and if he were to watch and let Michael fail one more time he was definitely going to die of starvation.

Michael hesitated for a moment before answering, “Well, I can play many instruments, but the violin is my favourite...” The words died in Michael’s throat as Adam pushed close beside him and grabbed the minced garlic from the angel and tossed them into the pan. “W-what are you doing?,” he stammered, his heart gradually beating faster. Such close proximity was sending his mind into a spiral. Were Adam’s eyes always that shimmery? Such deep golden hue, it reminded him of when the Sun was first brought into existence. A sudden bright spark in never ending darkness, glowing hot gases swirling all around it, and he couldn’t help but want to keep staring. Then there was his beautifully sun-kissed skin that seemed to glow whenever light hit it. Unmarred and untainted, it emitted such youthful warmth that pervaded every place Adam was in. And then there was also his soft brown hair; he bet it would feel so silky and smooth between his fingers–

“Can you pass me mushrooms?” Adam reached out and pointed towards the chopped mushrooms on Michael’s side, moving even closer into the angel’s space.

“Ah, yes,” Michael coughed into his fist. “Here you go.” He quickly handed the requested item, a yellow blush quickly spread on his face as he looked down and away from Adam, though he could still distinctly feel the first man’s warmth so close to him.

“Okay, so.” Adam grabbed Michael’s hand that was holding the wooden spatula and directed it towards the hot pan. “After you toss it in there you…”

Adam’s careful instructions were reduced to unintelligible background noise to Michael, his mind distracted by the feel of Adam’s hand on his and his body pressed flush against his. His body went into autopilot, letting Adam guide his hands on what to do as his mind took a break from reality lest he risk overheating.

“Aaand just like that, breakfast is served!,” announced Adam. “Pretty easy, right?”

Before Michael even knew it, two wooden plates of sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, stir fried vegetables and sliced avocados were in front of him. Apparently, he had assembled them together with Adam, though he vaguely remembered doing so. “Um, sure…,” mumbled Michael as he stood there seemingly lost. He wasn’t sure what had happened, but he wouldn’t mind receiving more cooking lessons from Adam.

On the other hand, Adam was just so happy and relieved to finally have something nice to eat. He hoped that what he just taught Michael now would stick, but he guessed from the angel’s dumbfounded expression that it would probably take a while and many more attempts for that to happen.

“So, you play the violin?,” asked Adam between chewing, his fork pointing towards Michael, who was sitting across from him, also eating their hard earned breakfast.

The question lowered Michael’s mood a tiny bit, not too obvious of a change, but perceptible to those who were keen. “I…don’t play it as much anymore.”

“Why not?”

Michael hesitated, but in the end didn’t mind sharing a piece of himself to Adam. “Reminds me too much of my brother,” he finally answered. “Though he preferred to call them his fiddle,” he chuckled as a fond memory of him and Lucifer playfully debating which music style was better to play the violin (or the fiddle) with. Michael preferred the more classical approach, a bit slower where notes were sustained and with more vibratos. Lucifer, on the other hand, liked playful dancing rhythms, fast paced with swift changes in notes.

Now, he had no one to competitively play music with, no one to chase around and reproach for pulling silly pranks on everyone even though he knew he would do it again. Despite everything, Lucifer was still his brother, born from the same stardust as he was.

“I just wish things could’ve ended differently,” Michael sighed as put down his plate of food, having already lost his appetite.

“Well…do you want to play music with me instead?,” blurted out Adam. He didn’t what the fuck he was trying to do. Comfort him? Make him feel better? Preach about the beauty of music and all that shit? Really, he didn’t know, all he knew was that he didn’t like the idea of someone giving up music because it brought up bitter memories. Music was there to soothe the soul, dance and sing with it, not tear it to shreds. “I mean, you made me a guitar so…”

Michael looked up from his plate to Adam, a little wide eyed from the man’s suggestion. He tossed the idea back and forth in his mind, and the more thought he gave it, the more he realised he liked it. Adam himself was gifted with amazing musical talent, and to create music together with him…it would be breathtaking, Michael imagined.

“I would love to, Adam.”

“Great! Let me just quickly grab my guitar.” Adam placed his plate down to jump over Amora, who was napping, and grab his guitar from behind her.

“Oh, you mean right now?,” asked Michael, surprised at the suddenness, but conjured a violin regardless.

“What better time than now?” Adam jumped over the sleeping jaguar again and sat beside Michael. He slowly strummed the strings of his guitar, leading for the angel to join him.

And Michael did, he positioned the violin between his chin and shoulder and slowly ran the bow up and down over the strings. Together, the two filled the air with a melody of serene beauty and elegance reminiscent of silken clouds at dawn, gold touching blue in the beginning of time. The life around them paused to watch in awe the concert between Heaven and Earth, a painting of the relationship between the two, loving yet formal, its complexity hidden by apparent simplicity. Its divine charm captured all as its enchanted audience.

Michael closed his eyes, fully immersing himself in the sweet sentimental tones, almost heart piercing to him. The notes clash like waves of love and loneliness, lost distant echoes and happiness in your grasp. Memories of the past resurfacing on the shores only to be washed away by slow sublime notes, leaving the shores smooth and bare ready to be meaningfully decorated again.

The notes lessened, the music eased down, the melody softened to a whisper as the curtains closed and the concert between Heaven and Earth reached its conclusion. Michael and Adam met each other’s gazes, a new understanding between them.

—-

Adam lied on the grass as he watched the stars decorate the dark canvas of the night sky. Each one shining as brightly as they could in order to brighten the darkness that surrounded it. The song he had created with Michael earlier in the morning still playing in his mind. It was normally what he preferred to play or listen to, but specifically that one, he truly loved.

“You’re still humming that song?,” asked Michael, who was lying beside him to watch the stars as well. It was odd, to see such enormous spheres of burning gas look so small and glistening like those shiny stones Adam had shown him before.

“I can’t help it,” Adam replied, eyes still glued to the night sky. “It was such a beautiful song,” he smiled, contentment filling his heart.

Michael shifted his gaze towards the human beside him. “It was,” he agreed.

If he wasn’t sure of it before, Michael was definitely sure now. It was something he could happily admit at this point. There weren't any grand plans he’d end up ruining anything or someone’s trust he’d end up breaking. There was nothing in the way, nothing to stop and hold him back. He had waited long enough, hadn’t he? He looked back up towards the night sky. “Would you take offence if I brought action to my desires, Father?,” he wondered. Michael was answered with the tranquillity of the night, the loving kiss of the breeze, the soft lullabies of swaying trees, the quiet snores of sleeping animals, bedtime stories from running streams, and the cool embrace of the glowing moon as she looked down at the earnest angel who sought for permission.

Michael had expressed his wishes upon Heaven and Earth, both God’s most beautiful works, and still they remained beautiful in their serenity. And so, Michael turned to his side and plucked a single blue feather near the base of his wings, and tied a silken gold thread around one end of the feather.

“Thank you Adam, for creating music with me,” said Michael softly, his tone filled with genuine appreciation and tender care. “It was wonderful. You were wonderful.”

Adam carelessly waved him off. “Psh, you did most of the playing. I was just there to back you up.”

“And I’m grateful for that,” Michael took a deep breath, here goes. He turned his body to fully face the first man beside him. “So, if you would allow me, I’d like to back you up too.”

Michael slowly offered the blue feather to Adam, his heart on a platter, exposed and vulnerable just for him.

Adam took his gaze off the night sky to see what Michael was talking about and was greeted by a feather on a golden thread. He knew what that meant. It was an oath. His heart and entire being offered to him unconditionally. An oath of everlasting love, to remain at one’s side until the end of time.

For angels, it was a happy, beautiful thing. Something to cause celebration over.

For Adam, it was a nightmare. A disaster in disguise.

Time Travel AU Part: 16

“So, if you would allow me, I’d like to back you up too,” Michael said softly, his voice barely above a whisper, trembling ever so slightly. He couldn’t believe it himself, to offer his devotion to someone else. And yet, here he was, offering a piece of himself to Adam.

Michael chanced a glance at Adam’s face, cool blue eyes a murky mix of hope and anxiety. Adam’s face was unreadable to him. Golden eyes staring blankly at the feather in front of him, lips neither curved upwards or downwards, brows in a relaxed position. It was all blank. Michael glanced back down, and with bated breath, awaited, for what felt like a daunting eternity, for Adam’s answer.

How terrible.

“Why the fuck would you go and ruin things just like that?,” Adam thought to himself as he eyed the single blue feather offered to him by Michael. How did the events lead to this moment?

“What a silly angel,” Adam chuckled darkly to himself. Had he not learned anything from Lucifer? Or from Lilith and Eve? He was there throughout the entire ordeal, wasn’t he? Could Michael not see the pattern? Adam was one who pushed people away from him; he only wanted to live by himself, away from prying eyes and hands that wished to open him up. Could Michael really not see? Adam was at his happiest at the garden with only the animals as company, far and away from the rest of the world. Why would he wish to burst that bubble? Really, how terrible.

There was still the conundrum of responding to Michael’s proposal. Adam was, technically, a very young human who barely knew anything outside of the garden of Eden. Someone who had never encountered such a proposal before, and was instead immediately betrothed to whoever the angels’ had decided.

It was honestly getting a little tiring for Adam, and he had hoped that he could pull down his mask little by little around Michael, but that seemed to be a rather wishful kind of thinking. And so, pulling his mask back up until it covered his entire visage once more, Adam cocked his head to the side and wore a small frown on his lips, his brows furrowed slightly.

“Hm? Why are you giving me a feather?,” he asked as he purposely took the feather from Michael’s hand with a carelessness that highlighted the distance between them. He played with the feather between his fingers, the moon’s light reflecting off of its silky surface. “I guess it’s pretty,” he added as he subtly eyed Michael for his reaction, hoping that his obvious disregard for something so precious would put off the angel.

“Ah–” Michael helplessly looked on as Adam carelessly fiddled with his offered feather, not knowing the value of such a thing. He mentally smacked himself, feeling a little silly now for letting his feelings rush him into such actions. Though it hurt him a little to watch Adam handle his feather with such careless disregard, he couldn’t blame the human for that. It was specifically a thing that happened between angels, and Adam was a human, one who had only ever known the garden of Eden and nothing of the places outside it.

Michael reached out for Adam’s hand holding the feather, and gently placed it in between his hands as his eyes that shone like a night full of stars landed on Adam’s own warm, sunny ones. “It’s an offer of devotion. A promise to forever remain by your side,” he explained.

“But didn’t you already promise me that?,” Adam asked.

“This is different from that. This is…,” Michael trailed off, looking away slightly. Was Adam really going to make him say it directly? His heart hammered away at his chest, threatening to burst out into millions of feathers that would propose itself to become Adam’s own set of wings. He gathered all of his courage into his next words, and with a final exhale he–

Adam yawned loudly, pulling his hand away from Michael’s, letting go of the feather in the process. He stretched his limbs until he heard the satisfying cracks before quickly sitting up on the grass.

“Ahh, we did so much today. I’m quite tired.” Adam gave a quick glance over at Michael, who was only now sitting up, his movements slower than normal. “I think I’ll go to sleep soon, you should get some rest soon too, Michael,” he smiled.

The blue feather laid abandoned on the grass between them, unaccepted by its intended recipient. With a careful hand, Michael picked up the lone feather from the ground it was dropped onto. “Adam, I–”

Adam slapped his knees before abruptly getting up, back already turned against the angel. “I’m sure Amora’s looking for me by now. Well, see you around Michael!,” he waved off without turning back for even a moment, running off far away from the angel.

And now there were two abandoned things on the grass. Michael held the feather close to him as he looked up towards the night sky. The stars twinkled like colourful jewels on a dark, silky fabric. But the longer he looked up at the sky, the less distinct each star’s shine became until they all gradually became a blurry mess carelessly smudged on a dark canvas. An odd kind of coldness streamed down the angel’s cheeks. Michael glanced back at the spot where Adam laid beside him just a few moments ago. It was now empty and devoid of the first man’s presence, and yet the feather remained here, with him.

Was that Adam’s answer?

—-

The following days were agonising for Michael. Everytime he visited, the first man alway seemed to either be missing or was too preoccupied to even properly give him a moment of his time and attention. It was…getting a little painful; wearing out his heart as more time passed.

Michael absentmindedly tapped his pen on the piece of paper in front of him as the other angels gathered at the table discussed more and more topics that he really couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to right now. It wasn’t that he found the discussions unimportant or a waste of time, it was just that his mind was currently plagued by other more personal thoughts.

“So, what do you think Michael?,” an angel asked.

“Huh?,” he looked up from his desk, obviously lost on the topic. Everyone’s attention was directed at him, patiently waiting for his response. They didn’t normally need his direct opinion on most things they talked about, so the fact that they directly asked him meant that it was something that had to do with his own work. He looked around a little nervously until his gaze finally landed onto Sera’s.

When those begging and sorry eyes locked onto hers, Sera knew she had to help out Michael a little bit. “We were just talking about Adam’s future as well as the garden, and were hoping to hear your thoughts on the matter,” she explained.

“Well, Adam had explicitly expressed his wish to remain in his home, which is the garden,” Michael responded, unsure of what they wanted to hear from him.

“Yes, but as I’ve mentioned before, he couldn’t just stay there forever,” Gabriel added.

“I agree. Wouldn’t that be so lonely for him?,” Jophiel added, a tearful expression on her delicate face.

Michael didn’t like where they were leading his thoughts into. “So, what do you suggest?”

“I’m suggesting we ascend him to Heaven,” Gabriel answered. “He is closer to us angels anyway compared to Eve and her husband. Just like us, he was directly made by Father himself, and is pure of sin.”

While their reasoning made sense to him, Michael knew that it wasn’t something Adam would agree with. “I understand your points of view,” he started. “But Adam had even chosen the garden over Eve, what makes you think he would want to leave now?”

“Just talk to him Michael,” Sera suddenly said, her expression serious as if she knew something the others didn’t.

“Alright,” he complied.

—-

Well, he would talk to Adam if only he could even find the human in the vast garden. Michael had ensured that his schedule was clear for the rest of the day, and visited the garden as early as he could. Surely, in such a long span of time, he would be able to find the first man. He had even plucked some of the ripest mangoes he could find on the way, which he remembered were Adam’s favourite fruit. He hoped that that would at least keep the first man still for a few moments, and listen to his words.

Michael flew over the garden, carefully scanning the ground below. Normally, he didn’t have to look too hard for Adam; the human seemed to prefer sleeping under the night sky whenever it wasn’t raining. However, lately, the first man seemed keen to switch up his sleeping spots, often choosing the most obscure of places. One time, he had found Adam crawling out from under a massive tree’s root, apparently finding the damp and cramped space ‘weirdly comfortable’.

Adam gasped as he breached the water’s surface and swam closer towards the pool’s edge. The cool river water felt nice on his skin as the morning sun’s rays gently warmed him up once he was finally on steady ground. While getting a refreshing morning shower everyday was nice, it was also getting tiring for Adam to have to dive down just behind the waterfall and into a hidden cave. Admittedly, he found the secret cave to be really cool, but doing it everyday had turned it into a tiresome chore rather than a fun experience.

Though, it was a really good spot to hide away from Michael. So good in fact, that he was starting to miss the angel…kind of. He did enjoy Michael’s company, really he did. The angel was weirdly clumsy with the simplest of tasks, often fascinated by the boring and mundane chores that Adam had to do on a daily basis. He found it quite endearing…in a friendly way, of course. Then there was his overly earnest attitude, which he found rather nice and sweet as the angel often tried to understand him better and provide what he thought were suitable for humans. He kind of missed their lazy days together where they just played all day, or built new random ‘inventions’ together. Time spent with Michael was really fun for Adam. But still, he refused to entertain any idea leading to ‘that’. He simply already had enough of that in a previous life, and just like the whole Eden incident, this wasn’t a mistake he was going to make in his second chance. No chance.

Adam sat by the pool's edge, just blankly staring at the water’s surface as it reflected the sun’s light back into the atmosphere, the rush of the waterfall acting as some sort of white noise.

A large paw landed rather heavily on his head, pushing his head down slightly. Adam turned to see Amora standing beside him, her yellow eyes judgy as usual. “I’ll push you into the water if you don’t stop,” he warned.

The next thing Adam knew, he was back in the plunge pool trying to swim back up towards the water’s surface. He gasped heavily for air once he managed to swim back up. “You..!,” he pointed harshly at the jaguar, splashing some water on her. “What’s your problem?! You’re such a bitch sometimes, you know?,” he snapped at her as he pulled himself back up on the pool’s edge, this time further away from Amora.

Yellow eyes bore straight into Adam, almost piercing through his very core. Amora’s normally light coloured eyes seemed rather dark despite the early sun’s bright light illuminating the garden like an infinitely deep ocean hiding endless knowledge beneath its depths unreachable by light. Then without another word, the jaguar turned her head before slowly turning her entire body away from Adam, walking slower than usual. Adam knew what she meant by that. It was a demand.

And so, with a yielding sigh but no further complaint, Adam trailed behind the large cat.

I feel like fic writers (me) sometimes overlook the sheer hilarity that WWX and LWJ are Parents in the way that no one else in the MDZS universe seems to want to be. Like can you imagine a time travel AU where LWJ and WWX wake up 15 in cloud recesses, see all their peers and are like,,,, children. Everyone is children. 15 year old Jiang Cheng? A baby. 19 (?) year old Jiang Yanli? A child. Just 15 year old LWJ and WWX aggressively parenting their friends and family because damn it clearly none of the other adults are gonna do it

I really want to write an AU where Ezra travels back in time - specifically de-aged and sent back to Obi-wan's time on Melida/Daan.

Because even though this is a super shitty situation Ezra's kinda... thriving? Like all of this is so firmly in his wheelhouse its funny.

Ezra's been living on his own starving and stealing since he was 7. He's being doing guerilla warfare for most of his adolescence. As soon as this boy joins the cause it's hell. Every adult is getting mind-tricked. The young are now stealing everything that is not nailed down. Ezra's connecting with any local megafauna to cause distractions. He's teaching 'child soldier 101 classes'.

And emotional support too! Comforting kids mourning their dead parents? That was just his own character arc! Comforting kids whose parents are warmongering assholes? That's just Sabine's thing! A jedi that doesn't believe he's worthy of being a jedi? Kanan.

idk if obi-wan would be a little scared of this war kid or think he's the fucking coolest padawan obi-wan's ever met in his life. Lets say the latter because its funny to me if they're both kinda obsessed with each other. Ezra definitely hears the whole story of how Obi got to the planet and is 2000% on His Side immediately. Ezra is complimenting Obi-wan constantly cause he canonically can't shut up and obi-wan is blushing so hard All of the Time.

Anyway, when the war ends Obi-wan and Qui-gon bring him back to coruscant with them to present him to the council, ect. ect.

Ezra is conflicted about whether he even wants to join the order officially as a padawan. On one hand, it would be really nice to have actual traditional jedi training. On the other hand he really is going to have to do several high profile murders sometime in the next decade? two decades?, and doesn't know if the jedi should be connected to him lol.

Life was never how you would plan it and you knew exactly that.

They say that life is unbearable if you make it unbearable- and as half of that statement is true, half of that statement is life on its own having a way of unravelling itself before you. As if it were knots to seams to threads- life had untied itself in an inevitable way, you could no longer complain anymore.

In the vein of things that I want to write, don't have time to write right now, and don't want to forget either: timeloop Cody AU.

Cody makes it two weeks into his deployment before he's killed. It's not his fault, wrong place, wrong time. He wakes up on Kamino the morning Alpha Seventeen introduces him to his new general. He figures it's a weird dream, he knows he's been assigned to Kenobi and he looked him up. Two weeks in he feels the oddest sense of deja vu and takes a few steps to the left and narrowly avoids being skewered by a piece of an exploding LAAT/i. This time he makes it three months before he is killed and he wakes up on Kamino the morning he is due to meet Kenobi. And it keeps on happening. Cody dies and he wakes up at the start again. He tries to tell people, Seventeen doesn't listen, Kenobi finds it fascinating but doesn't have the time to look into it, General Yoda is concerned, but every time someone overhears and he ends up sent to decommissioning even over his general’s protests. So he keeps quiet, remembers as much as he can and saves as many brothers as he can. He can't save them all, sometimes saving one is what gets him killed and he could have gone for all eternity without knowing what getting eaten by a Rishi eel or being blown to pieces feels like. He does his best. He makes it to Utapau and Order 66 happens. It gets hazy after that, but when he surfaces from the influence of the chip he takes the only path out he can think of and wakes up on Kamino. Now it isn't just about making it to the end. It's about stopping himself from killing his Jedi, who he grows closer and closer to with every loop. It's about preventing genocide at the hands his people, only for them to be wiped out in return. He reaches Utapau without finding the answer too many times, ending things before he can take that unforgivable step. Then he hears about Fives and Tup, and Kix disappearing after Echo is recovered from the Techno Union. The next loop he gets to Fives first, gets all the information, and sends himself back to the beginning on Kamino so that can investigate and get the chips out of as many brothers as possible before the end in the hope that he can succeed and the Jedi and the clones.

Obviously, there are going to be massive Codywan vibes all through. I am incapable of not putting Codywan vibes into things at this point. It will involve Cody ferreting out all the little horrors and secrets, especially a couple of Anakin related ones, and the fallout of passing those on at the wrong time. We would have Obi-Wan catching weird Force vibes from Cody and Anakin getting more and more suspicious of the vibes and the feelings each loop. Obviously, eventually, things would be fixed, but only after many loops and shenanigans.

I just don't have the time to write it right now, but I also don't want it to languish forgotten. Maybe I'll come back to it, maybe I won't. But here it is.
