i am literally inches away from explaining how thneedville from the Lorax is technically a utopia (or whatever you call it idk)

bet. (this is all my opinion and way of seeing things so please don’t get angry) in the opening number, the citizens of thneedville explain how they dont have any real trees or plants or anything. because of this, they have to buy air. the person who started selling the air is O’Hare. he brags how much money he has from selling air. the citizens buying the air don’t see a problem with that and think it’s perfectly normal and ok.

another reason i think thneedville is a utopia is because of a scene that happens a bit after the ‘disco tree’ scene. Tim gets the idea to go outside to find the Onceler and find out what really happened to all the trees. when O’Hare finds out about this, he literally shouts, “No one leaves town!” (or something close to that) I’m pretty sure he tries to stop Tim from leaving, but fails.

and my last reason for thinking thneedville is a utopia is in the Let it Grow scene. everyone is coming to the realization that air should be free and that they should have real trees, not fake ones. O’Hare takes not of this, and is scared that his business will crumble and that he will no longer have control over the citizens of the town. this leads to his weak attempt to get everyone back on his side by saying his iconic “Let it die!” line. of course, no one agrees with him and he is launched off into space (or whatever happened i don’t remember)

Taking all the aforementioned facts stated in this essay, I have come to the conclusion that Thneedville is a utopia. I am open to commentary and peaceful arguments. And if i got anything wrong please correct me!
