"To Reach" for the WIP game!

I'm not sure if I can commit to finishing this piece or not... but it's a modern AU where Xie Lian is in an abusive relationship with his boss, Jun Wu, and has finally realized he wants out of it. Endgame Hualian <3

There's a snippet under the cut, but just a quick CW for physical violence and Jun Wu being generally despicable.

The soft touch does nothing to soothe him. It only promises to give way to something sharper—meaner. And, soon, it does.

The harsh slap meets his cheek with enough force to nearly jostle him from his place on his chair. Xie Lian steadies himself, both in thought and expression, and quickly rights his posture. He steels his face, but there is fear—heavy and dripping—behind his eyes.

Jun Wu’s large hand raises again and it takes everything in Xie Lian to not flinch away as the older man draws closer to caress his stinging cheek.

There’s nothing comforting in the touch. It’s meant to be soft—to be loving—but it comes across only as possessive and achingly callous.

The secret, terrifying thought bubbles back to Xie Lian’s mind: this isn’t how it’s supposed to be, is it? The feeling that curls and festers in his stomach is fear. There is no arousal or pleasant anticipation.

He’s so afraid.

He’s so afraid he can feel his hands begin to tremble.

He wants to leave right now. He doesn’t want to be in Jun Wu’s office anymore. Maybe—he dares to entertain—maybe he doesn’t want to be with Jun Wu at all.
