i think it is crucial to look at sisyphus' relationship & comradary with his men to understand Him as a character.. imagine him happy, yes? but how did he first imagine himself happy? how does one start to begin to so drastically view the world different?
its the people around him he fights for. hes a man of physicality, of action, its ghhhgdgsbsh. he could suffer in isolation for Ever, or he could push up others. he could just grit his teeth and get through the day, or he could keep his head up and CONQUER the day! but it only seems like a victory because everyone else in greed sees it as defeat
its contrast, its different, its addictive. why would he be so positive in his situation? well, does it matter when you, a sinner, have been so tormented for so long? wouldnt you want just a glimpse his radiance to be in your own dreary life?
sisyphus has to struggle for his own punishment regardless. he has to get the boulder to the top anyways. but why not turn this purposeless thing into something that could benefits others? whats a better bonding activity than hands on torment? he knows the people of greed, hes seen them at both their lowest and highest, most vulnerable and most accomplished . he knows his people like he knows his own calloused hands
and as much as they would die for him, being led straight into a battle they could never win, he would die for them. not for his own self, or own gain, but to give his warriors and fighters the victory he had convinced them of
