i don’t like the ending of season 4 any more than the next guy, but i do keep having this thought.
you might watch that ending and ask yourself: “WHAT WAS THE POINT?” if it was all for nothing, why did we go through all that? why laugh or cry about people who, in the end, never existed to begin with?
please feel free to disagree, but i feel like that might have been part of what the ending wanted to achieve. whether it got there or not is another conversation, but it begs this question: was it worth living and loving and losing, if you knew it was destined for oblivion?
that’s the question we ask about ourselves, too, right?
the fact that Luther, Allison, Klaus, AND Viktor ALL found their soulmates in different timelines/time periods through their time traveling is just SO juicy and could’ve been such a point of emotional conflict in this last season??? If all the timelines need to be destroyed but that would mean erasing the people they fell in love with?? erasing Sloane and Ray and Dave and Sissy?? Characters who actually were important to the seasons they appeared in, and who were so crucial to the Umbrellas’ character development?? Why not honor them and those incredible relationships in the swan song??

so SO upset because they filmed shit that wouldn’t fix the season by any means but might have salvaged the final installment of a show that is so precious to so many people.
if you haven’t already, i recommend checking out these deleted scenes (ESPECIALLY the final one if you were as mad about klaus’ storyline as i was) for a little bit of closure/healing/context*
(* a few of the scenes definitely re-inspired me to try my hand at fix-it fic because actual s4 just rendered me despondent)
these are more canon to me than Anything that came out of 4x05 and steve blackman can pry them out of my cold dead hands. ☂︎

there's a whole lot to talk about when it comes to the tua s4. first of all, I would have liked a little insight into their lives just after they've been dumped in the new timeline.
like how the fuck did this bunch of people trusted into this world with no goddamn powers, records of themselves, MONEY, build a life for themselves in the span of five/six years?
how did Five get hired by the fucking CIA when he's a nineteen-year-old little boy with no records of him or whatever? did they have any records of them, not that I remember? I'd like to know actually?
how did Lila find her parents? what did they know? how did they get married legally? How did Viktor end up owning his own bar? did he start from scratch? How did Luther get hired as a stripper?
Where did they start from? How did they get there? WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT FIVE YEARS OF THEIR LIVES?
I understand that Allison and Lila's family might have helped but I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS??

In s4, Five and Claire never interact.
This is the most consistent show of all time, WOW!
As I’m trying to come to terms with whatever the fuck that was, I’ve decided that:
Seasons 1 and 2 are peak. Absolute masterpieces. Canon.
Season 3 can be taken or left. Has its moments, but overall not as good as the first two. Canon, but only if you want it to be.
Season 4 is a fucking crack fic written at 2am that the author rereads at a later date and decides to delete. Absolutely not canon.
