Hello Dearest Chaya I've Said It Many Times Before, But I'll Repeat Myself And Thank You For Letting

The sound of hooves approaching the house has Edgar smiling to himself. His eyes glance over to his desk, the letter he received this morning from the King. Knowing who is approaching, he places his paperwork away, his day off officially beginning now that the Princess is back. He stands up as the front door click and opens.

Roselina steps into the house, carrying her bag and toolbelt in one hand. Placing everything in the entryway to put away later, she starts moving into the house.

“Ed, I’m home” the voice that fills the house has been gone far too long. Watching the twins place the voice, Edgar smiles when he sees the twins try to stand up.

“Mama” Jayden tries to move towards the door, but he stumbles forward. Rose appears in the doorway, her tired eyes lighting up when she sees her sons and husband. Jayden manages to make it to the door, clutching her leg as soon as she steps into the room.

“Jay baby, I’ve missed you so much” She whispers, kneeling down to give the almost one-year-old a hug. Her arms reach out to the approaching Kayden and pull him close too. Pressing a kiss on both of their heads she looks up.

“I’m finally home” She murmurs again, shutting her eyes. Arms wrap around her and the twins, pulling her against a warm chest, a familiar heartbeat.

“Welcome home Jelly Bean, we have missed you so much” Edgar murmurs against her head. His arms tighten slightly, shutting his eyes to hold his family closer. The twins are both trying to babble to Rose, pressing kisses to her cheeks, and causing their mother to giggle. Lifting her head up, she kisses Edgar, finally looking around the room.

“Hey Ed?” her voice holds a hint of amusement and Edgar hums in acknowledgment. “Why does the Christmas tree only have lights?” Rose is trying not to laugh at the tree in the corner of the room.

“Because I didn’t want to decorate it without you,” Edgar explains and Rose smiles back at him. Breaking the hug, she picks up Jayden and holds Kayden’s hand as they approach the tree. Boxes under the tree hold the ornaments, but none of them are actually on the tree.

“It didn’t feel like Christmas with you gone. I have the twins' gifts wrapped, but that was about it” Edgar admits.

“You always do things at the last minute.” Opening the ornaments, she picks them up and hands them to Jayden.

“Want to put it on the tree?” she asks, watching as his finger holds the ornament before he attempts to put the ornament on the tree. Edgar picks up Kayden and does the same thing. A competition is born between the two officers, seeing who can place the better ornaments with the twins. Stepping back when the tree is completed, Rose looks up.

“We are forgetting something very important” She places Jayden down to play and leaves the room without another word, leaving a stumped Edgar. She hurries to her chest in the bedroom, searching for a very specific box.

“Here you are,” Rose lets out a relieved sigh, lifting the delicate box to her chest. Carrying the crest of the Kingsley family, she opens the box to check its contents. Her mother's tree topper, a gold star set with rubies and magic crystals.

“I can’t believe they didn’t put you out sooner.” Speaking more to herself, the woman exits the bedroom, cradling her prize to her chest. Moving through the house, she goes back to the living room.

“Found it, and I am never leaving you in charge of the decorations again” she scolds her husband, noticing him sitting at the desk. He lets out a hum, acknowledging her words, but he seems deep in thought. Assessing the tall tree, Rose looks over at the desk next to the tree and a smile creeps on her face. She walks up to her husband and presses a kiss on his temple.

“Hey Ed, I need to use a corner of your desk for a minute” she calmly states before hopping easily onto the desk, catching the Jack’s attention.

“Rose what on earth are you doing?” Edgar raises his eyebrow at his wife and she lets out a giggle, looking down at him with amusement shining in her crystal blue eyes.

"Wel someone forgot to add the most important decoration to the tree, so now I am trying-" her voice fades in concentration as she teaches up on her tippy toes. A peek of gold and magic crystal shimmers in her hand and Edgar holds onto her leg in worry. Leaning out too far, Rose loses her balance, letting out a squeal as she falls off the desk.

“Easy Jellybean, if you wanted some attention you didn’t need to fall into my arms.” Edgar teases, standing up in time to catch his wife. Rose opens one eye, her arms both holding the tree topper against her chest, a barrier of magic protecting it.

“My knight in shining armor” Rose whispers, pressing a kiss to Edgar's lips as she sets her back on her feet.

“Well please be careful, I don’t need to explain to your brother or Kyle how you got hurt trying to decorate a tree.” Edgar sighs and Rose lets out a soft pout.

“I thought I could do it from the desk.” Turning her eyes on Edgar, she watches his face soften. “Ed, can you lift me up so I can put the star on the tree?” Rose asks, and Edgar nods.

“I’ll hold you up so you can reach the tree. Stand on the desk for a minute” Edgar sheds his officer jacket as Rose stands on the desk. Shifting his weight, he lets Rose sit on his shoulders to reach the top of the tree.

“Almost got it” Still too small to reach the top, Rose's eyes shift into glowing magic crystals as s a small tendril of magic wraps around the topper and situates on the tree. She lets out a giggle as she takes a second ornament from her hand and places it on the tree.

“All set Sweetheart?” Edgar asks, his thumb trailing along her leg and she lets out a content hum. Lowering her carefully back to the ground. The setting sun sets off the magic crystals lights around the tree, and it comes to life. Wrapping an arm around Rose, Edgar looks down at his wife who is watching their twins play.

"I wish I could spend every Christmas Eve like this" He whispers in her ear and Rose turns to him, smiling as she presses a kiss to his lips. Her brain. Reflects on everything they've been through the past year, a warmth flooding her body. The thoughts of the past months are chased away, replaced by the smiles and warmth of being with her family.

“I will always be by your side. We will have so many more little Christmases together."
