more outsiders au headcanons but it's pony being a musician

pony is def the most musical in the family.

like their parents tried to get them all into piano and stuff and other than darry no one else really cared except for pony

i imagine hes a choir kid

and just loves music with all his heart

like out of nowhere he would start singing something thats stuck in his head

all loud and obnoxious

they could all be in the living room chilling and stuff, doing nothing much in particular and pony would just be all like

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T! FIND OUT WHAT IT MEANS TO ME"

and he would rock it too

steady vibrato and them runs and riffs

like he's insanely talented

and everyone would just sigh

cause they've given up on getting him to stop

or when he's practicing at the piano and something happens or someone does something dumb

he just plays the circus theme song thing

and he'd get smacked upside the head

or if he's sad he can usually relate it to a song lyric and he'd be caught singing it since it would end up getting stuck in his head and everyone would just be like

"you good homie??"

and when he's feeling things

he WILL write a gutwrenching, heartstring-tugging poem that he may or may not adapt into a song

he would also randomly belt something from a musical

and then darry would randomly start singing (sometimes in harmony) to throw pony off and darry would be all like

"i aint tryna be mean but before you there was meeee"

darry would also try to help him out with piano and they'd argue because darry thinks it's this note and pony disagrees or smth

darry fr be like

"pony it says piano so here's a tip: you have to play it softly"

and pony would be like

"I AM PLAYING IT SOFTLY"

(he says as he slams down on the keys)

and the others are just watching, eating popcorn because it's always entertaining to watch darry try to get pony to listen or vice versa cause they're both stubborn af

gangs’s height hcs lets gooo

Ponyboy: 5’4-5’5-ish in the book, eventually is 6’0 as an adult. Taller than Soda because of this scene in the TV show where they compare heights and Pony’s taller- it was funny lol

Sodapop: 5’10. Not that tall, but certainly not short either. About average. Wasn’t at all insecure about his height until Pony got taller…now he wears cowboy boots more often (for the heel)

Darry: 6’2. Not much to say here. It’s his canonical height lol

Johnny: 5’3, due to years of malnutrition and sleep deprivation. Would only end up growing to 5’4-ish in adulthood if he reached it.

Dally: 6’1. Pretty tall. In my heart and soul he’s 5’6 but I realize that that’s not true. Still

Two-Bit: 6’0- in the movie he’s 5’7, but idk he gives me tall vibes and he’s tall in the book anyway? I do flip flop on this one a lot tho so I draw him pretty inconsistently tbh

Steve: 5’7. I know he’s “tall and lean” in the book, but Tom Cruise is neither lol, and his version of Steve is the one that made me like Steve. So to me Steve’s always gonna be 5’7. Hell, he’s probably rounding up too. He seems like he would yk

The most “boys will be boys” things the gang do

• Steve, Soda, Dally, and Darry stay walking around half naked, ESPECIALLY in the summer. Their shirts are never on. Soda’s jeans are unzipped half the time smh

• as much as they really really try, the Curtis boys are known for leaving their dirty laundry everywhere 😟 no matter how messy they can be though, Two-Bit’s room will always be exponentially worse

• one time Steve and Soda wanted to see who could eat the most chocolate cake so they each ate a whole half of a cake and threw up later

• Johnny do not be washing his clothes 😭😭😭 it’s rly not his fault but Darry will offer to wash up some of his stuff with Ponyboy’s and Johnny will be like “no thank you it’s not that bad 🙂” bros jean jacket probably carries the plague

• they literally don’t stop eating. It’s canon that the Curtis brothers all have big appetites, everyone else is just as bad. Most of their money goes to groceries bc they literally just eat and eat

• Ponyboy tries to lay in bed directly after track practice before showering bc he’s tired and Sodapop is appalled

• so so so many wrestling and football injuries. Pony’s always tripping and falling face first. Steve is a fucking pincher when they’re wrestling so Soda and Two-Bit always have little ass bruises on them from him 💀 during football Johnny is really good at slipping between people bc he can be pretty quick but one time he managed to take Steve down with him and they knocked their heads together

• Dally unfortunately enjoys driving around and yelling obscenities when he has Buck’s car. No one is off limits. He’ll trail behind Johnny and be like “ay what that mouth do” and Johnny just lets out the most defeated sigh

• Ponyboy and Curly were each other’s first kiss “for practice” and didn’t rly think much of it until they realized they’d only been kissing each other even tho they didn’t need practice anymore and never tried to get w anyone else 😭😭😭

• if Two-Bit sees any kind of animal worth catching in his mind like an armadillo or some shit he will indeed try to catch it and bring it to the Curtis house and Darry is just like if you don’t get that damn armadillo off my porch

Anyway I love these sillies even tho boys are gross 😒

More miscellaneous headcannons that have been rattling around my head:

- Darry’s a slightly taller and a little more lanky compared to Paul who’s broader and a little shorter than Darry.

- Darry and Paul were always doing something equivalent to a Jackass episode in high school. They’ll both have ungodly dad lore.

- Johnny sometimes goes to the Curtis house really late, like 3 or 4 in the morning and scares the shit out of whoever’s unlucky enough to find him first. Pony goes to get a glass of water and just sees 👁️👁️ in the darkness and screams.

- Steve and Evie are the most disgustingly affectionate couple to be around. Soda and Sandy were fine but those two are always staring lovingly into each others eyes and it makes the gang sick.

- Dally pronounces marry, merry, and Mary differently bc of his accent (yes I’m projecting with this one but I think it’s cool, I only noticed that I do it bc my friends kept pointing it out). He says meh-rry, mah-rry, and may-rry.

- Two-Bit sometimes brings his little sister around and she absolutely loves the gang. They host a big game of hide and seek or tag with as many people as they can find (they usually drag the Shepard’s into it) and just go for it.

- Angela and Evie are best friends, they’re always doing each others makeup and hair and just wandering around together bc they’re some of the only girl greasers around.

- Darry actually has a lot of fun at his roofing job. He likes his coworkers and considers them all good friends. When he gets home he’s just overstimulated from a long day of social interaction and usually he’s sore from actually doing work.

- Pony can never get jars open by himself so he has to ask someone else to do it, he swears that someone super glues the tops when he’s not looking (he’d be correct, but only once or twice. Soda was bored.)

- Johnny seems completely unaffected by the weather, like it doesn’t occur to him that it’s 98 degrees outside and he’s wearing jeans and a jacket.

- Curly’s the emotionally intelligent one in his family, it’s just something with the middle kid.

- Steve will randomly trip people for no reason other than shits and giggles.

- Soda’s really good at taking photos, like he knows how to get good angle, good at lighting, everything. He’s usually the one who takes any photos of whatever’s going on and they’re always good.

- Angela’s has really unsteady hands so she either gets Curly or Evie to help her paint her nails.

- Two-Bit isn’t very good at keeping secrets. He’s always talking and something he wasn’t supposed to say just slips out and he’s like ‘oops’.

- All of the Curtis’ cry laugh for some reason, so obviously it must be genetic.

- Soda was really fascinated by rocks when he was a kid, he still is but he’s a little more secretive about it now. Pony and Darry know and try to give him sometime cool every once in a while, like moss agate or tourmaline.

- None of the gang is good at giving gifts to each other so they all act like cats and leave the gift something they know the person will find it and hightail it.

Thinking about the Curtis brothers and how their open-door policy is so well-known and utilized that they’ve woken up to people like Tim Shepard on their couch. There’s just something to be said about them being the heart of the community, the people you go to when you need a place to crash

Darry did not like Sodapop when he was born. When he first learned he was getting a little brother, he was ecstatic. He’d always heard his friends talking about how much fun their little brothers were, and he couldn’t wait to have somebody to play with. So, when Soda was born and he couldn’t do anything except sit there and cry, Darry felt like he’d been cheated. He tried to get the baby to play tag? The baby sat there. He tried to show Soda how to draw? Soda sat there. He sat his parents down two weeks after they brought the baby home and told them that he thinks it’s broken and they should send it back and get a new one. The Curtis parents found this hysterical of course, even thought Darry was VERY serious. They never really got it through Darry’s head that Soda wasn’t broken, he was just a baby. Darry kind of just figured it out on his own over time. One day Soda was crying and the Curtis parents couldn’t get him to quiet down no matter what they did. Eventually Darry came out to complain about how loud the baby was being and Soda started reaching for him. They sat Darry down on the couch and handed him the baby, who immediately stopped crying and nuzzled into his neck. That’s when he decided that maybe his little brother was okay.

wut are the milestones that pony reaches that make darry cry? like what was ponys hs graduation day like? i feel like when it comes to pony graduating or something he kind of becomes like luke from gilmore girls and just cries without any self-consciousness.

Obsessed with every hc where Darry is a proud big brother of Pony, hanging up trophies and being better than any cheerleader at track meets.

My hc is that Darry didn’t cry at Pony’s graduation, he def got misty-eyed and it was a great time, Soda and Darry stood and yelled at the top of their lungs when they heard their kid brother’s name get called, and Soda was crying up a storm, but Darry didn’t cry.

And you gotta hear me out, but the only reason Darry cried as he was leaving Pony at college was because Pony was the first Curtis to go to college. He’s doing what none of them were able to and he’s so proud. Sure, maybe there is some envy, but it’s not malicious. He’s seeing all the accomplishments that are suddenly within reach for Pony and he’s so proud that his kid brother stuck it out for as long as he did to get to this moment.

But it’s a bittersweet moment. It’s the first time Darry’s remembering vividly all the moments they spent as brothers, every little milestone a young Pony hit—his first day of elementary school, his first broken bone, his first sleepover, his first A, his first track meet, his first trophy. It just gets bigger and bigger until Darry’s remembering the day Pony opened his college acceptance letter and the explosive joy that erupted in their house at the first word, “Congratulations”.

And the rush down memory lane makes Darry emotional enough to cry in Pony’s shoulder during what’ll be their last hug for a while. Pony just lets out a wet laugh and pats his back, saying “Don’t get sappy on me now, Superman.”

“Who’re you calling sappy?” Darry retorts, pulling away and swiping away tear tracks to make room for the new ones.

Pony grins. “Love you, Darry.”

Darry shakes his head, but he’s smiling wide. “I love you too, honey.”

He manages to mess up Pony’s hair one more time before he can duck away yelling and flipping him off.

I just know Ponyboy and Darry talk MAD shit together

Not to get all stereotypical here but Johnny (and Dallas but I think less so) are so "If I Die Young" coded

Especially the line "Funny when you're dead, how people start listenin'"

Johnny and Dallas or Johnny and Ponyboy (take your pick) are so strawberry blond coded.

I seen the post where you wanted something sad about the outsiders so maybe like, once Johnny and dally dies he becomes sadder and sadder every day. He completely stop watching sunsets but every once in a while he will look at the them despite the heaviness in his heart. He stops playing track because the running reminds him of when him and Johnny had to run away and when ever he sees and leather jacket his eyes fills with tears because they remind him of dally. He blames himself every day of the deaths of his two best friends despite soda pop and Darry telling him it wasnt his fault. He locks him self in his room most the time and just stares at his book shelf no longer having the motivation to read the books. He reads johnnys letter every night and bowls his eyes out till he falls asleep. I don’t know what else to put so there ya have it😅
