falling in love with kaidou is slow, almost painful. he's so dense towards other peoples feelings that it's almost funny. at least it would be ⸺ if it wasn't your feelings that he was oblivious towards.

falling in love with kaidou is the mornings after you've stayed over, studying until the two of you are falling asleep at the table. it's him making you coffee and you making him hot chocolate because he just "doesn't understand how you like coffee". it's sleepy eyes and bashful looks.

falling in love with kaidou is him overheating everytime your hands brush. every time you call him by his first name and every time you tell him that he can call you by yours. every time you lean into his ear to murmur something in his ear, he goes red and fidgety, not even retaining the words you said to him. later, when you bring up the conversation, he pretends like he remembers.

falling in love with kaidou is accepting his dream world where he plays the hero. it's listening to him when he rambles and not interrupting him. it's him talking for hours about everything and nothing, and you listening him. it's accepting his flaws.

falling in love with kaidou is the overwhelming jealousy you feel when he hangs out with his friends. when yumehara looks at him like a lovesick puppy. when him and kuboyasu get along so well.

falling in love with kaidou is watching him from afar. it's learning, and accepting, that you will never be able to love him the way you want to. his schedule wouldn't be able to fit in another person. and his mother certainly wouldn't approve of the way you look at her son.

kaidou is someone who is easily flustered. he blushes at the thought of holding your hand, of kissing you ⸺ hell, even looking at you has him flustered and he can't for the life of him figure out why. he doesn't understand why he's thinking these things about you but he's far too embarrassed to ask someone! so, he decides, he'll just keep his feelings to himself.

it isn't until they're stranded on that island that he figures it out.

he figures out why his gaze always lingers on you a little bit longer than people who are "just friends" normally would. why he thinks about your arms comfortably wrapped around his waist while the two of you watch a movie. why he fantasized about all of these romantic things ⸺ and why you're the other person in them. not teruhashi, like every one else. like he was before he met you. just you.

he realizes through small, loving glances that you gaze at him the same way. that when you find him looking, you send him a small smile that seems to be reserved for only him. that you always make time for him. whether that's studying with him or him just raving about the dark reunion. you call him cute when he does that, not in a mocking way, but in a way that feels so genuine that he has to swoon.

the two of you wonder how long you'll dance around each other like this. you wonder how long you'll have to fantasize about doing all of the couple-y things you want to do before you're finally allowed to do them. maybe it'll continue forever. you might have to watch each other unhappily marry women, because that's what's supposed to make you happy, right? women. not each other. two men in a relationship would be looked down upon by society.

and neither of you want the other to go through that kind of pain. so you just settle with watching from afar.

he's actually the most awkward person ever when it comes to having a crush on someone. believe me.

he's all red and flustered, tripping over his words.

it takes him a while to figure out exactly what his feelings about you are, and he struggles to accept that they're actually romantic. he talks to saiki (god bless him) and kuboyasu about it, not mentioning you, and they both confirm that it those are romantic feelings he has.

kaidou struggles to show his feelings. he can't bring himself to avoid you, but it seems like he's a million miles away when you're hanging out. he feels guilty when you ask him if he's okay.

i think him confessing could go two ways. number 1 is that i think eventually he either just blurts out that he has a crush on you, or number 2 is he shoves a note in your locker.

he doesn't sign the note, but you can tell that it's from him. his penmanship is very recognizable.

you gently confront him about it, either handing him your own letter in response to his feelings, or saying to his face that you would love for him to be your boyfriend.

the two of you don't tend to go on fancy dates, instead just using your alone time to catch up with each other or do parallel play, since he has to use so much of his time for studying.

loves cuddling. he is a cuddle bug.

you'll probably have to initiate most pda, if you want it. he is very nervous and doesn't want to make you uncomfortable. (but he loves it!! it makes him feel very loved.)
