Textura Quadrata - Tumblr Posts

More calligraphy, this is a Textura Quadrata script inspired by the Manuscript - Pat. lat. 1811 from the Vatican digital archive. I somehow messed up the second line because I was scared it wouldn’t fit on my paper.

Nib: Leonardt Round 1.5mm

Ink: Random black Italian ink

Paper: It’s card from Tesco :)

I was doing some Cyrillic manuscript studies and decided to write my given surname in Cyrillic. My family never knew the original spelling as when my Great-Grandfather was captured my the Germans during the war they changed the spelling to Pschenitschnyj, which is a very German way of spelling it. By process of elimination, I figured out that the original spelling would have been Pshenychnyi, which means Wheat in Ukrainian. We think my Great-Grandad may have been Russian and lied and said he was Ukrainian, but with this information, we may be able to find it out! Exciting! Attached is the pipeline of how I figured it out. Please don’t judge it too harshly because I have never written in Cyrillic much before and I don’t speak either Russian nor Ukrainian, but I want to learn!

You’d think I would’ve noticed that this wouldn’t fit earlier… but no… I didn’t realise until the end. Great.

I ran out of ink in my pen towards the end so resorted to the thicker one.

Also ignore all the bits of Tip-ex that I used to cover my very small mistakes caused by my pea brain.

Also ignore how it gets messier near the bottom.

A practice of all three hands I know Textura Quadrata, Prescissa and Rotunda. (In that order)

The plan is to sand-cast a sign made of solid aluminum with one of these three and it shall say “Beware of the Ghosts” and I shall paint it and nail it to my door.
