Hi there! I was just wondering about your Sans/Nabstablook OC. Mainly, is he better at dodging, endurance, and running since he's super light? Also, if he is hit, does he take damage or does his Puppet just fall apart with enough damage before he has to flee? You don't have to answer any of the questions on here if it's spoilers, and I think your AU is very cool! Can't wait for your next update!

Tear is worse at dodging, but isn't one-hit. They can run for longer, because they run with less weight. Endurance is pretty much the same as Classic's. Everything that is connected to how hurting Tear works will be explained in the updated character info sheet later.

Another question about your Sans/Napstablook AU, do you think Tear would float away in OuterTale? Like, if he visits, does he have to lug around a rock to keep his plush body from floating away? And how well would his puppet react to being soaked in water, like if he visited an underwater AU? Again, you don't have to answer if it's spoilers, and I find this AU very interesting while excitedly waiting for more!

In Outertale, he would be able to stand on the ground in places its residents can too. In an underwater AU, Tear's body will start to fill with water. He would sink till he is stuck at the bottom of the ocean. He doesn't know how to swim and cannot teleport.

Hi Erl! Anyways, I really love your art and and I absolute find your idea about Tear Sans really creative! Not to disturb ya or anything, but if you could would you able to visualize how a conversation between Tear Sans and the other sanses will go? (Considering he'll probably say smth like, "I'm a Sans! I-I swear!)

He would start by observing them from afar, amazed and excited to see another Sans. Tear would wait a bit till he gets the courage to approach them or only get it as they are about to leave. As he can't AU travel himself, he would eagerly ask the Sans about things they saw and if they can come with for just a little bit.

Tear has no idea who star sanses are and bad sanses, nor what they do in the multiverse (despite seeing some from afar). So it's all the same to them who they see

Tear also only starts defensively stating he is Sans when others point out the plush body. For the most part, it's mainly him trying to convince himself.

In Tear's bio/description you wrote they use he/they pronouns and I was curious if Tear felt pressured to adopt he/him pronouns at some point to be more like Sans(es) ? (if i remember correctly in og undertale napstablook was only referred to with they/them, please correct me if I'm wrong or if in Tear's au they already used he/they)

In the game Napstablook uses They/Them.

In Tear's original AU, they still use They/Them pronouns. It's over the few days of seeing the multiverse travelers that Tear starts to feel intense longing to be like Sans and their entire character is built upon this idea. Tear adopts He/They because they both fit now and this becomes their way to identity as both Sans and Napstablook.

I would like to know. If Tear Sans can manipulate his tears, does that mean he can “Tearbend” or control water itself like in Nickelodeon’s Avatar series?

He can Tearbend. Only his tears, no other body of water. Because tears are his magic

No idea if you've been sent this already but I feel like Tears would be great friends with Anxiety. (The Sans!)

Also I'm new to your blog and LOVE including Napstablook, he's so underrated!!

No Idea If You've Been Sent This Already But I Feel Like Tears Would Be Great Friends With Anxiety. (The

Tear would in general love befriending any Sans. Even though he would wait a little till getting the courage to approach others on his own. He would lowkey admire them for simply being 'a Sans'. It's more about if Anxiety would allow Tear into his bubble. Tear isn't confident enough to attempt befriending anyone more than once, if feeling rejected. It already takes a lot out of him, because he fears losing anyone they build close connections to (like all the ghosts who left them to become corporeal). He would run away and phase till invisible if he feels like he is inconveniencing them.

I headcanon that it could be a cute friendship of mutual understanding. Tear does have depression and anxiety. Just not as severe as Anxiety Sans

Waitwaitwait tear!sans is touch starved?

Then Is he okay with cheek kisses? And how would he react if he ever had a secret admirer or someone who has a crush on him? (I'm secretly obsessed towards him cuz he's so cute, it makes me kick my feet and giggle)

Tear didn't get a lot of physical touch once they got abandoned by friends and family, who wished to become corporeal. So now they very much long for it. Be it pats, hugs, kisses, holding hands etc. This doesn't have to be romantic.

Someone showing interest in him on that level would come as unexpected to them. It would make them nervous, due to not knowing how to act or what to think of it.

If you catch their ghosty heart however, be prepared to be asked to cuddle a lot

Yo Eri! Which Sans do you think will be a good friend for our ghost buddy :3

(That is if he can even make friends with a Sans)

Bonus question: Which Sanses would you think he'll dislike the most? (Apart from Error)

Tear can end up being a good friend for anyone, but actually making friends is another story. Rather, it's a process that just needs a little more time due to their lack of confidence and fear of losing those they build close connections to. Unless the friendship is already established, they find it hard to relax around the person. They tend to also be forgotten in the background in groups of people, making them feel disconnected.

To me the most obvious friendship that I can imagine working out is with Swap. This is a headcanon, as they don't end up interacting. Tear would get comfortable around them pretty fast. I imagine Swap as the kind of person to naturally include everyone in the room, noticing even those that don't speak up. He in general feels very caring about the others. There is definitely a lot more friendships that would be possible. Tear is a good listener, so maybe someone would like that trait.

As for dislikes, Tear doesn't dislike any Sans (other than Error because he was about to kill them). They have no knowledge of Sanses outside their original AU or know about the happenings in the multiverse. This makes them vulnerable, as Tear would be gullible and obliviously happy seeing even someone like Nightmare in the same AU as them. It would be just another Sans they had never heard of. He doesn't even know Error as the 'destroyer'. Tear is by no means stupid and will notice certain little things sooner or later, even if too late.

Since Tear loves to listen to music, I wonder if he likes to play any musical instruments

Tear likes to play the kalimba. It's more of their comfort instrument because it can always be in their pocket. However, their favorite is a synthesizer.

Extra info… They aren't good with a trombone but they learned a bit to be more Sans like. They memorized the short bit that Sans plays and that's all Tear is able to play on it. His notes don't come out nearly as clear and controlled.

Very curious to know if Tear has a "Sans eye" and if so what color it is

And if he doesn't, would that be something that gives him away?

Tear doesn't have a 'Sans eye', but his eyelights reflect light. Meaning they glow in the dark similar to cats.

It would depend on the individual if Tear's eyes count as a giveaway. There are Sans variants without one (killer(if not stage one), horror(the eye technically isn't his), error etc.). Tear's biggest visual giveaway is their own plush body, as the place they live at isn't inhibited with plush variants.

Hewo!! I rlly love your sans, Tear!! He's such a creative and inspirational character! Just curious, what were some of your inspirations, when designing him?

-vibrates in excitement- I will use this chance to yap A LOT about Tear's overall creation, story and visuals. I'm sorry for this essay…

______

I returned to the Undertale fandom super recently. It’s 8-9 years after the game was released I think. I started to joke with a friend how I will make an OC only now. 3 days later it was not a joke anymore and Tear came to be.

I think what influenced the story I created is the fact that I adore isekai, reincarnation and reliving same life kind of stories. I love the feeling of being able to experience what being a specific character is like, be it through my own eyes or another character's. Because a lot of people enjoy superpowers, want to feel cool, want to become important in something/story, want to see characters deal with this type of confusion etc.... Yes, I read Sans variant reincarnation/isekai stories too. I thought, who wouldn't be interested into experiencing an exciting life (minus the stress and trauma that comes with it, but that makes it a fun read).

In the moment of me joking about creating an OC, I was trying to come up with funny scenarios that would make me laugh from how absolutely ridiculous it is. It was only to have a few laughs with a friend. Revisiting the utmv fandom, it is pretty clear it's legit ruled by Sanses and barely anything else. Somehow the idea of using my favorite character, Napstablook, just clicked with my reincarnation/isekai addiction. A character that, just like all the people consuming the same content I liked, wishes to experience what they consider exciting. That is, the life all these Sanses have. They only ever saw Sanses be 'special'. I hoped it would make Tear relatable. That Tear would be a character which is entertaining to follow, because we know what the multiverse is like as viewers, but they do not. Someone who could be cheered on because of it (just like in the game wow -cough cough- sorry). And then the idea with ripping Error's plushies hit me. I was so overly entertained by it, that it was basically the point where the whole thing stopped being a joke.

After I had the basis of the story to work with, I moved to designing their look. I pulled up a picture of every. single. popular. sans. variant. that I could remember from utmv early days. I wanted Tear to be able to legit fit in so well among them, because their wish was to be like them, blend with them in such a way. To be a Sans, a cool traveler to meet many others, be loved etc etc. For this plan, the design had to have not too much detail or too little. Most utmv designs aren't that complex. Napstablook only has a few visually distinctive features, so I tried to keep them in mind. Those being their line between the eyes and the sheet waves/frills at the end of their body. So the only initial plan was... sketch a normal sans, slap the usual shorts and shirt that all these OC variants barely change and figure it out from there. A lot of mainstream characters still wore a kind of a hoodie/jacket, so a hoodie was a must for me. I added the waves at the bottom of it, to resemble Napstablook's body, and that forehead line in the form of stitches. It still didn't feel enough. I wanted it to be extremely obvious who they are visually at first glance, with 0 prior knowledge (Napstablook Sans variant). Headphones were my biggest cherry on the top, because I don't think it gets more clear than that if I shape them to look like Blooky themselves. I later on decided I want some design references to Blooky crying too. So I added a scarf, made it drop it's ends approximately in the center of the character, as well as made the edges rounded slightly. All so it would resemble -drum rolls- a tear. Very, very subtly. The tear heart in the back was also a not so subtle tribute to it too. Because Blooky is fully paper white, Tear had to be mostly in the same colors. I admit I wanted to make their purples blue instead (to match their house colors) but I'm a sucker for the purple color and there is an inside joke with another friend how everything I ever design has some sort of purple tint to it. It's something I stopped fighting long ago and just embraced it as my little art quirk. At this point I adopt it on purpose if I catch myself doing it subconsciously. So my blue became purple instead. This was all inspired by OG Blooky and no one specific directly.

Once the design was already settled, I actually did end up taking inspiration from Dust Sans. This is the only character I directly took inspo from. I loved the idea of dramatic shadows being cast by his hood and it was perfect for what I have in store. So I expanded my ref sheet with such a drawing. I wanted the usual Tear to have a completely different vibe visually from the one that could be fought. I wanted to kill some of Tear's overall softness by making their gaze feel off. Wide eyed stare, with drastic shadows and glowing eyes. Tho they cannot and do not glow for the same reasons as Classic Sans. I recently mentioned it HERE. There is another inspiration I took from Dust, not connected to the design, but as of now I cannot mention it. It will be revealed soon if all works out.

After that, I just started writing the character info on the google doc and polishing it. The story just kept coming and consuming my brain. I never planned to make a comic out of this little idea. I was only gonna post Tear’s info sheet, maybe draw Tear 2-3 more times and move on. It was an impulse decision. All because I couldn’t stop chuckling about the Error bit and the consequences of it. Now Tear became somewhat of a comfort character and gave me a hyperfixation of a truck

What's Tear's heigth compare to others shorts sans like Swap and Ink?

In the past, I made Tear be 4'0", but I'm changing it to 3'10". This does make Tear taller than Ink and Swap still.

My reasoning behind the change is... Tear had to eyeball Sanses height so the chances of getting it right are slim. I think it just adds a little more to the story and the change is so small. Classic Sans has no game canon height and everyone has their own take on that, so I will just state that his height is 4'0" in Tear's original AU.

Tear also appears smaller in the comic because UF Papyrus they encounter (and UF Sans) are both taller than their Classic/UT selves. This of course only applies to the AU variant Tear fell into. I like to believe heights can change based on AU variants.

Do you think Tear and Anxiety Sans would get along? They seem like they'd sit in nervous silence together listening to music lol

I can imagine that haha. This question got answered in another ask > HERE

I have only known about Tear for less than 7 minutes and already I would do anything he asked of me and more

I would love to say me too. As their creator I want the world for them, but I would be the first person in line to push them off the building

is tear story over? or is the comic going to have another comic?

'Passing ghost' comic is over. It only serves as Tear's origin story.

It's very likely that I will make another comic in the future for Tear. But I need to figure out what kind of story I would wish to tell.

My plan right now is to make other things that the comic was blocking me from doing. Such as animatic, animations, drawn asks and general illustrations. Per usual, I will still be dropping new character info here and there

There's a reason why the Underfell AU is the new universe/home of Tear? Just curious

Tear's original AU does not exist anymore. There is nothing there to return to, not that Tear is aware of it. They also cannot AU travel on their own.

Sorry, but can I ask this question? How do you imagine fell and swap options/versions of tear sans? (swap version of tear sans is not Napstablook! but his cousin Mettaton! Mettablook? Hutstablook or whatever?)

Oh wow. Tear variant/different AU questions already? Consider my answer a headcanon, as I'm not gonna be creating and developing these AUs.

Fell Tear loathes Sans, because canon UF!Blooky loathes anyone affiliated with Asgore/Alphys. But in reality it's somewhat of a love-hate situation. Sans has qualities UF!Tear finds themselves respecting and admiring, but they can't help but hate the guy regardless for the side he found himself on. They pretty much become a Sans to show they can do everything better, while trying to gain said qualities themselves. The biggest one being how Fell Sans gets general respect from monsters. Monsters just avoid ever messing with the skeleton brothers. UF!Tear could be a little jealous that a part of it feels handed over, just because of who their brother is. Even though realistically, Sans had to work for it too. UF!Tear also respects Sanses visual 'scare factor'. Underfell is all about looking edgy and more intimidating than Undertale cast. I imagine that UF!Tear design would likely wear some torn jacket (like their blooky body sheet). It used to be this brand new looking jacket. It ends up badly torn in places from magic attacks in UF!Tear's attempts of 'getting respect'. But because of how painfully honest they are about their opinions and not keeping it to themselves, they end up hurting others. It results in a bunch of fights. They are surprisingly not that bad of a person despite it all, as long as you aren't on their bad side. Might still say some hurtful things to you though.

Swap Tear/Mettaton Tear would just have to be something about entertainment. In Undertale, just like Tear did, Mettaton already acts on their greatest wish. They want to be a celebrity, known in the entertainment industry. Maybe Swap Tear gets their body for the same reasons the game Mettaton got his. Maybe they are in the stage of just deciding to act on their goals and they see this tiny skeleton with oh so much energy. And every time chasing their dream gets hard, they remember Sans powering through everything. And it fuels them to always strive for more, always try that much harder. They need to work harder to become a popular entertainer. And that means they need to pass the barrier to get even humans to watch them. Swap Tear needs to be 'the best of both worlds' to achieve true greatness. But they also wanna be acknowledged and liked by Sans. And what is the closest, not-craftable, monster body to resemble a human? a skeleton. And who are they trying to impress the most? a skeleton. Probably fights the other 'mettaton' on the popularity leaderboards.
