“Water Under the Bridge” sneak peek
Just a lil proof of life post and a little sneaky peek for the Boys in the Boat tag lurkers that crave the same content as I do. I DO have your backs and I AM still writing. I’m just the world’s slowest writer with a lot going on right now. But I’m still plugging, I really enjoy writing Bobby, and I cannot WAIT for you all to meet my new OFC!!!
Friday finally arrived and after another day full of classes and rowing, Bobby could finally let himself get excited about his date. Usually after crew practice he would talk his oarsmen’s ears off; being in no hurry to finish up in the showers because he had so much to say. But today he set aside the chatter so he wouldn’t be late and after his shower, he was pretty much out the door as soon as he put on his aftershave.
“Does anyone know what’s up with Moch?” Chuck asked, his tone curious. When no one answered he turned to Joe and Don - the stern sandwich was extra close and he figured if no one else knew, these two were sure to know something.
Joe rose from the bench and shrugged.
Chuck switched his focus to Don, who was bent over tying his shoes. “Don? Do you know?”
Don looked up from tying his shoelaces and shrugged; his infamous frown on his face as he shook his head.
Chuck rolled his eyes. “Does anyone know what’s going on with our coxswain today? I can’t be the only one who noticed he was strangely quiet today.”
“Quiet or focused?” Jim asked as he grabbed his jacket from the wall hook.
“What?”
“He seemed more focused than quiet to me,” Jim went on. “He yelled at you for skying the blade, remember? Last I checked, that’s not quiet.”
“And don’t forget his snide remark when that crab you caught pretty much knocked you outta the boat,” Shorty piped in and all the boys snickered.
Chuck rolled his eyes. “I didn’t mean in the boat, you idiots. I meant in here. The showers. Usually he never shuts up and cracks all the jokes.”
Joe grabbed his jacket this time. “Maybe he didn’t feel like talking. He had that bad breakup a while ago, remember? Or he may have had somewhere to be.”
“Yeah,” Gordy piped in. “Don’t assume the worst. I’m sure he’s fine and I think Rantz is right; he seemed like he was in a hurry.”
“Maybe he’s got a date,” Shorty teased as he combed his hair in front of the mirror.
“A date?” Johnny repeated. “You think so?”
Shorty shrugged. “Why not?”
“Ya know, that would explain the aftershave,” Jim stated.
“And the way he ran outta here like a bat outta Hell.”
The boys laughed at Don’s random observation.
“Well if that’s what he has going on,” Jim went on. “I really hope it works out for him. Moch deserves a good girl.”
Just a little something I’ve been cooking up here. I’m so excited to share this! Idk when it’ll be up, but I’m too excited about it to not share a snippet🫶🏻 (or two)! It’ll be the first fanfic I post on here!
“I said no later than 4:45, Day,” Bobby said, shaking his head. “It’s 4:53. What took you so long?”
Before Chuck could answer, Roger sniffed the air slightly and shook his head.
“Had to get that stress relieving smoke or two in first,” he said, his arms crossed. Chuck gave him a look.
“Whose side are you on, Morris?”
Roger laughed. “Not the cigarette side. You know that’s a disgusting habit.”

“But before you pair up, I’m making things interesting,” Bobby said, noting the look Joe and Don gave each other. They knew if they were paired together, they’d more than likely win. “I’m not pairing you in order.”
“What?” Chuck asked, tossing his arms out to the side. Bobby grinned.
“Don, Roger, you two are partners,” he said, pointing to the two of them. “Joe and Chuck.”
Joe held back from rolling his eyes as he walked over to tie his leg to Chuck’s. Of course the little runt would put him with Chuck on a day like today.
