Prompt - “I got you.”
Requested - Yes - Anon

The first time you met was purely coincidental, you and your Master had been working on a mission for nearly a week without success. It seemed the mission was doomed to fail, impossible as every one of your attacks was countered until you were forced to retreat.
Everyone was exhausted, so many men had been lost in such a short amount of time, though really it felt like you had been here for so much longer. With each new attack less men were returning to camp, supplies and soldiers running dangerously low and the Council couldn’t get anyone out to Chisno to help.
You, Obi-Wan and Cody stood around a holomap, bouncing ideas of each other that were all met with failure. You were all drained, sore and tired from the constant action and needed an impossible plan for such an impossible mission.
“I have an idea.” Cody announced suddenly after the silence had stretched on.
You and Obi-Wan turned to the Commander, seeing the faraway look in his eyes as he ran through whatever plan he had thought up in his head. You both waited for him to calculate whether it would work before he turned to you with a nod.
“I have to make a call but hopefully we’ll have reinforcements here soon.” Cody said and he turned to leave the tent, leaving you and Obi-Wan to look at each other in confusion before just shrugging, you both trusted Cody and if he could get some form of reinforcements here then neither of you would complain.
It turns out Cody did have a plan and could come through with the reinforcements, just in time too because in the two days it took for Cody’s backup to arrive many more men had been lost in battle.
When the ship landed you looked over, having to wait only a moment or two for the door to open and a group to walk out. Your focus was immediately drawn to the man at the front of the group, long hair held in place with a red bandana, a smile spreading across his face as he gripped Cody’s forearm.
He was beautiful, that was the first thing you noticed about him. You didn’t know what you had done for the Force to put the two of you in the same place at the same time but you were thankful nonetheless.
“General Kenobi, General Y/L/N, this is Clone Force 99.” Cody said with a smile bigger than you had seen since before you were assigned this Force forsaken mission. “This is Crosshair, Wrecker, Tech and Hunter.”
Hunter.
They didn’t look much like any of the clones you were used to being around but Cody continued telling you about their enhancements and how these four clones could be the key to winning this mission and the planet.
“Thank you for coming, any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.” Obi-Wan told them and Wrecker chuckled.
“Don’t worry General, we’ll handle this!” Wrecker grinned as he punched his fist into his palm and you couldn’t help but smile with him, a small laugh escaping you.
It was then you noticed Hunter’s attention was on you, his lips pulling into his own little smile and yours softened as you looked at him, hoping your cheeks weren’t as flushed as they felt.
“Easy, big guy. Why don’t you boys come and look over what we have and then we can make a plan.” You said, immediately taking charge causing Obi-Wan to raise an eyebrow at you but you just ignored him, not daring to glance at him right now.
“Lead the way.” Hunter smiled as he gestured for you to go ahead and you fought to keep your smile from widening as you led the batch into the tent.
From that very first moment you and Hunter got along like you’d known each other forever. You bounced ideas of one another, a playful string of banter mixed in and you pointedly refused to look over at Obi-Wan even as you felt his amusement through your bond.
“You think we’ll win?” You asked Hunter when the others went to prepare and Cody and Obi-Wan went to inform the men of the newest plan.
“We’re good at what we do, we’ll win.” Hunter assured you, the tiredness you felt suddenly hitting you and Hunter stopped you from leaving the tent with a hand to yours.
That one little touch seemed to light something inside of you though, a rush of something flooding you and you felt something you hadn’t before.
Something about Hunter was intoxicating, despite only knowing him for several hours you knew he could be an important person in your life. The old Jedi rules didn’t even register in your head, attachments were bad but you didn’t care, not when Hunter’s hand on yours felt electric.
“It’s been a long mission, huh?” Hunter asked quietly and you let out a small huff.
“It’s been a long war.” You answered before sighing. “Sometimes it all feels impossible, like it’s never going to end.”
Hunter was silent for a moment but his hand squeezed yours softly.
“It will end.” He said and his voice sounded so much like a promise. “With Generals who care as much as you do, the war will end.”
You felt your face flush at his words, gaze falling away from him causing him to chuckle softly before you turned your hand so you were holding his and squeezed back.
“Thank you, Hunter.” You murmured, both of your eyes locked onto your joined hands before the rustling of the tent door snapped you apart just in time for Obi-Wan to poke his head through and call you to the front lines.
You and Hunter worked alongside each other like you had been doing it since the war started. His silent cues were easily read by you and you moved together and took down clankers with an ease you had never had before.
You kept hits away from Hunter with your lightsaber as he took down another wave of droids. Through the comms you heard Tech announce that he was moments away from shutting down the droid army, the only way you could win this campaign.
Just before Tech broke through the system you felt a burning pain shoot across your side, a whimper of pain escaping you as you forced yourself to stay upright, just about managing to deflect a blaster shot that would have hit Hunter had you missed.
As you fought you felt sweat pooling on your forehead, your whole body was shaking and the pain in your side got worse.
Hunter looked over at you and did a double take that almost had a clanker getting a shot in had Crosshair not dealt with it from the sniper's nest. You had clearly been hit, one arm wrapped around your side as you sluggishly waved your lightsaber this way and that.
Hunter felt his heart stutter as he watched you stumble, barely keeping yourself up as you took down another droid. He didn’t know why he cared so much about you. He hadn’t known you for long at all, less than a day and yet here he was with a wave of fear running through him.
“Tech you have to hurry up, General Y/L/N’s hit!” Hunter commanded into his comm and watched as you looked over at him, face contorted in pain and he forced himself to smile reassuringly over at you.
“I only need a few more seconds, bear with me.” Tech said calmly into the comm and Hunter nodded at you. “And the droids should be shutting down…now.”
As he had said the droids all suddenly went motionless before slumping to the ground and you went right along with them causing Hunter to curse.
“Hey, I got you.” Hunter murmured as he wasted no time picking you up in his arms, smiling sympathetically as you curled into his chest with a whimper of pain. “I got you.”
It didn’t take long for Hunter to arrive back at the camp, the rest of the batch already there as well as Cody and Obi-Wan, the Jedi rushing over as soon as he saw the two of you.
“She got hit by a blaster.” Hunter told the man before he could ask and gestured for Tech, it was a fairly standard injury, one that pretty much everyone had experienced since the war started so Tech was well equipped to handle it. “Tech look over her please.”
“Of course Hunter, set her down and I’ll apply some bacta patches and assess if there is further damage.” Tech said as Hunter placed you down on the cot and stepped back to let Tech pull your robe and start cleaning up the wound.
“Thank you for keeping her safe.” Obi-Wan said at his side and Hunter couldn’t help but frown.
“She got hurt.” Hunter told him quietly, not looking away from you as Tech worked.
“A single blaster shot that is easily fixable is better than what could have happened had you not been there.” Obi-Wan said, looking towards Hunter even as the man kept his gaze firmly on you. “You cannot blame yourself, you kept her safe and brought her back.”
Hunter didn’t say anything else, just nodded even though he didn’t fully believe the Jedi’s words and stayed where he was until Tech announced you would be fine.
It was a while longer before you had woken up, Hunter had sent the rest of the batch to help the 212th prepare their ships as he waited with you, ignoring the smirk Crosshair threw at him on his way out of the tent.
“Where am I?” You asked with a small wince as you tried to sit up but Hunter stopped you with a gentle hand to your shoulder.
“Relax, you’re back at the camp.” Hunter assured you and watched as you frowned before opening your eyes fully and mouthing his name causing him to chuckle softly. “You’re okay, Tech patched you up good as new.”
“Thank you for getting me back.” You smiled at him, bringing your hand up to wrap around his forearm and giving it a squeeze. “Did we win?”
“I told you we would.” Hunter couldn’t stop his own smile as you grinned tiredly at him.
“Never should have doubted you.” You told him, wincing again as you shifted. “I guess you’ll be heading off soon then.”
“Yeah,” Hunter sighed, not sure what it was about you that made it so hard to leave. “My boys are helping yours out and then we’ll be heading back to Kamino.”
“Thank you for your help, we couldn’t have done it without any of you.” You said, squeezing his arm again and Hunter finally let his hand slip from your shoulder down into your hand and squeezed back. “Hopefully our paths cross again, Sergeant.”
“It was an honour fighting alongside you, General.” Hunter smiled and you couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Call me Y/N.” You insisted and Hunter nodded at you, his smile widening at your laugh.
“I hope we meet again, Y/N.” He said and your smile turned soft as you nodded your agreement.
Before you could say anything the tent opened and somebody cleared their throat. When you looked up you saw Tech standing awkwardly with a data pad in hand.
“Sorry for the interruption.” He said as he looked from you to Hunter and down to your joined hands. “But we must be leaving.”
“Tech!” You smiled, watching as his eyes widened slightly behind his goggles. “I’m glad you’re here, I wanted to thank you for patching me up.”
“Oh, you’re welcome, really it wasn’t a problem, nothing that some bacta and rest won’t fix. Are you in any pain?” Tech asked as he stepped closer and watched as you shook your head.
“It’s a bit sore but it doesn’t hurt any more, thanks to you.” You said and watched him nod.
“Very good, you should be fine in a few hours but do be sure to rest.” Tech instructed and you nodded, thanking him again before turning to Hunter who hadn’t moved.
“See you around?” You asked with a small smile and Hunter nodded.
“If you ever need any help, comm us, Cody has our comm number I’ll make sure you get it.” Hunter told you and you nodded, murmuring another thank you before he stood.
He hesitated before he forced himself out of the tent after Tech, looking back over his shoulder to give you a final smile before disappearing from view, hoping to whatever Force was listening that this wouldn’t be the last time you met.
