Speaking of whump, Supernatural is persistently, horribly, terribly good at it. These gifs from 9x09 are like a fanzine fic illustration from the 70s/80s came to life. Very little comfort to go with all the hurt, though! Even dying only gets someone limited sympathy and time to heal on Supernatural.
Thus part of me spent the entire fifteen seasons purring with quiet appreciation of the ongoing fanservice and feels, while the annoyingly literal bit of my brain kept going, "Wow, these actors must've spent so much time being SO uncomfortably sticky..." and admiring their stoic dedication to the less glamorous aspects of their craft.
CASTIEL ✧ 9.9 HOLY TERROR
I'm still trying to process this bit of Supernatural. All three of 'em - Sam, Dean, Cas - not in possession of the facts they need to survive this storyline. It should be comedy-of-errors silly, all the lies about Sam/Gadreel, Cas trying to make it as a human while living with his conscience, Dean juggling a double dose of guilt with increasingly implausible lies and diversions, but it's gutwrenching from start to finish. And the longer it goes on and the more Gadreel plays the 'I could leave but Sam will die' card, the more impossible it seems that Our Heroes are getting out without at least one fatality; without Dean's relationships with both his brother and Cas being damaged beyond repair by secrets he doesn't want to keep.
Then they do all survive it, and their relationships are fixable after all, and the casualty when it all kicks off is Kevin instead, and he's just dead now and Dean never forgives himself.
