The side-eye... I cant. This issue was published in 1956 over two decades before Jason's introduction but just look at that sly look, the smile, the writers may not have known what was to come but Bruce certainly does

you bring up a great point. I think a lot of people who admire a character sometimes look at them and realize that this character does not reflect who they are and what they look like.

ofc this is a major issue if you can't find any characters who reflect aspects of you, but enjoying fiction that isn't copy + paste of your surroundings is really important for expanding your surroundings!

when you write a character, they end up reflecting you, whether it's something small like "catchphrase I hate and this person is bad so I give it to them" or your whole moral standpoint.

in batman's case - and really the majority of the DC roster - when you, time and time again, give control of their comics to people who take themselves too seriously and think interesting = gritty/violent, you get a batman who reflects that

Every new batman thing atm is like "hey, what if this weirdo clown villain from gotham, instead of being fun and kooky in a silly costume, was boring and heterosexual and an incel?" and it's so miserable

Stop trying to make batman gritty. He's a repressed weirdo who dresses up in a sexy leather outfit to get sweaty and wrestle with dudes and other men and women in fetish gear instead of seeing a therapist for his PTSD

Stop trying to make gotham gritty. If you want a realistic gritty gotham where men seriously do crimes and sad men do standup in comedy clubs whilst being fascists and cops do police brutality and whatever like. That's just new york. That already exists
