Poor Gideon. While everyone else was pursuing the secrets of immortality in service of the emperor, she was pursuing the secrets of figuring out how the fuck to function as an inexperienced butch dyke lesbian.

Kissing her head. Calling her baby.

Then, Harrow. Arch nemesis, stupid ferret face, pointy-faced mother fucker with her weird little shaped face and Gideon probably thinks about her face shape a little bit too much for someone she supposedly hates so badly.

Seriously go back and read the first book and see just how many fucking times Gideon thinks about Harrow's face.

Harrow's a bitch. And Gideon hates her guts, at least until there's the slightest notion that Harrow might be in danger. Then they suddenly need to work together, it's imperative that Gideon is with her.

Then there's a chance that they might be murdered. Then it's like a switch has been flipped in Harrow. Suddenly she can't permit being strangers with Gideon anymore, suddenly she's deeply concerned.

Then shit gets real.

Then Harrow admits everything, and fully submits to Gideon taking revenge and drowning her. And it's Gideon's chance to be free.

And she fucking hugs Harrow, says I love you in probably the most disturbingly intimate way possible (one flesh one end is such an intensely intimate expression) then KISSES HER HEAD. HER FACE! IT ALWAYS COMES BACK TO HER FACE DOESN'T IT?!

Poor Gideon, actualizing her feelings for the little ferret evil stick goblin creature who's obsessed with bones, and is in love with a dead corpse.

Just as the nice and sexy older lady turns out to be WAY older and also murderous and oops martyrdom is the only way to save this evil pointy girl that she loves.

Then Gideon is dead. But then Gideon isn't dead, she's just submerged constantly in Harrow's subconscious and on it goes.
