“Ochako is the love interest with no character or personality” no. I want people to portray her as she really is; a girl who suppresses her emotions who just wants everyone to be happy and not be a bother, while currently being done with all the traumatic shit that’s happening
She keeps quiet till a boiling point, she worries her little heart out until she collapses, it’s hard for her to be vulnerable because she’s been keeping her mouth shut for so long that she doesn’t know how to express her feelings, and that’s when she actually knows how she feels, not how she should feel
She’s the daughter of a working class family, who only ever wanted them and others to be happy, to keep smiling, and we see that this stems from her upbringing because she was exposed to all the frustration of her parents working long hours and financial struggles. She was so exposed to it that at a young age (we can probably assume around 14-15 years old), she moved out and got her own apartment. She didn’t eat because she wanted to save money because, you know, she lived alone and needed to afford rent, food and other necessities - she’s independent to a fault
She’s so focused on working, on getting the job done, being a girlboss and getting that cash money for her family, on saving people, on making a difference however small she can. She doesn’t have to be The Savior Of The World in order to want to get out there. She’s giving, kind, goofy (because she likes it when people smile and laugh, when she herself is smiling and laughing) and she does have some inner demons that she’d rather sweep under the rug than address
If you’re to say “she has no personality”, it’s because she’s crafted herself to always be happy while turning around and telling others to express themselves. She’s so focused on being happy that she struggles so much with being sad or expressing inner thoughts
Currently, she seems to be at her wits end, struggling to come to terms with what she should do, trying to keep positive but very much lost in her own thoughts, trying to keep a smile on her face because she wants to be happy, but how can she with such a dilemma in her hands and an incoming second war? And if you remember what she went through with the first war, it was chaos, running around and trying to be in two places at once, just trying to save as many people as she could. If that were to happen again, would she able to handle it? No, she’d have to be able to handle it. It’s not like she can back out, what kind of Hero would she be then? She always has to be able to handle it, as the independent-to-a-fault person she is
In many ways, she’s trying to stay determined but she’s tired. She’s been through so much and it shows. (And letting just a little of that stress go, talking to her friend, has helped. It hasn’t solved the situation but, it seems to have helped with getting those feelings off her chest. To know that, really, she’s not alone, even when she thinks she is. Which is something she desperately needed to learn)
There’s a lot you could do with that kind of background on her character. There’s a lot you could write about and analyze
I’m unsure as to what Hori will do with her exactly, in what manner he will end her character, but the fact that I just told you what I got from what we’ve been shown, should tell you that her personality, her character, is there. It means that Hori has shown her as an actual person, rather than “just the love interest”
