Just went through the infinity train tag bc i finally got around to watching book 4 and (bc book 4 is the most recent one) theres a lot of rymin posts and some people are saying that "because ryan and min-gi werent in an explicitly clear romantic relationship within the show, it's queer-baiting" and im not mlm but id like to throw in my 2 cents!
I personally dont think its queer-baiting. Other people who agree with me keep saying "the show has never been about or focused on romance" and I think thats a flimsy excuse because a show like infinity train can focus on whatever it wants depending on the protagonists of that book, yknow? It doesnt have to stick to one theme, even if that theme is just vaugely "not romance".
What I think we saw was them setting up the potential for a romantic relationship! ryan and min-gi haven't seen each other in years, and while we don't know how long they were on the train, in just 10 episodes (each season usually sticks to 10 episodes) going from "wow i haven't seen you in years!" to "we are in a romantic relationship and all of our problems are solved" would have felt SUPER rushed. They had to fix the problems within their platonic relationship before they would be able to form a healthy romantic one after all! And we couldn't just watch them age over the years and understand the relationship with flashbacks like we did with Amelia, we had to watch them slowly go through the train and process each problem as it came to them.
If you still think it was queerbaiting and/or are upset by the fact that rymin was not canon (especially since mlm rep in shows and cartoons is severely lacking), that's fine! Just please don't take it out on the writers!

It's been 5 years since Infinity Train premiered and I still do forgive WB for canceling and removing this and a bunch of other shows. I was hooked after watching it and was hyped for book 3, Amphibia, The Owl House and this was top shows of 2020 for me, I hope one day it would get revisited and revival but I'm down with anything Owen has in store.
