Hii! Did you stumble across this work? Glad you're here 😊 Please, let me know your thoughts once you are finished. Feedback keeps me motivated to write 😁
Note that English is not my first language, so please if you find grammar mistakes, let me know. :)

The silence resides in the whole house as you transit the living room with your parents. Everyone present shows a mix of emotions: shock, disbelief and even ire, especially the ones from your pack. No one is sitting in the extensive amount of sofas and armchairs carefully organised for gatherings. Everyone is on their feet out of respect for the situation.
Jungkook is waiting outside on the balcony with his parents. You don't see him but you can smell him, the same way you smelled him on you just ten minutes ago before you were handed a towel and supplies by the very gentle wife of the host pack leader, Sylvine.
It feels strange that his smell, so musky and full of forest in it, evocates so much confusion in you right now. It escapes you how someone you feel so attracted to, like a tidal wave to the moon, can try to trespass on such a big boundary. It makes you feel sad and angry, it makes you want to run away at the expense of not seeing him again but also confront him in hopes that it is all a mistake.
She crosses your path again, patting the shoulder of her man as she leaves him with you and your parents and with a bit calmer mind you can see she's breathtaking.
Her hair is long to the hip and blonde with whites which results in her hair looking really bright. Her eyes are naturally foxy in dark-forest green, with a sharp nose and pouty full lips, mixed with high cheekbones and a diamond-shaped face. The pack leader, Roman, on the other hand, has curly black hair, almond-shaped eyes with irises in dark grey, thick eyebrows that make him look in a constant frown leading to an aquiline nose and bow-shaped lips. That, along with a defined jawline on a round face makes him quite handsome.
He looks imposing next to your small party of three, towering over your tall father by at least a head as he leads you to another room.
Past the double doors, your parents take a seat on a ten-seat extendable table facing the three window doors with a view of the lake that presides over the room. You take a look around under Roman’s attentive stare. The space is almost as big as the living room you just came from, where the rest of rougarou and guests are. Four armchairs face that same top-to-bottom window and there are chairs placed against the wall in couples, one on top of each other, probably meant to be used when there are reunions inside. Three thick log walls have hunt prizes on them and pictures that you can tell go from the first cameras to phones from these days. There is also a big window on the ceiling that very likely allows the moonlight to cast light over the centrepiece that is the table. There’s a set of stairs that leads to the first and second floor at the opposite side of the double door you have entered from. The house is symmetrical but this dining room is cut short to fit the kitchen in an open concept.
There’s an aisle at its centre where a stove is placed so whoever cooks can also participate in whatever thing happens in the room, it also fits four stools. The cabinets match the rustic style of the whole house and the shiny black countertop that seems to hold the milky-way in it gives it a nice touch. There’s another window over the sink that gives a view to the pathway that leads to the house, matching a window that is also in the other room from where you were waiting to see who arrived earlier.
Eilith, your pack leader, enters next with her dark semblance, the chalk covers her face from the cheekbones to the root of her braided hair and she smells like crushed leaves, mud and water. She was likely having a run with Hojeong, Jungkook’s pack leader, and their respective partners. Or so you can tell since he also enters smelling similarly. You can see out the open door how those other two wait outside.
Eilith is a redhead that simply matches too well the visuals of the animals you turn into. Her face is the most similar to a human-wolve you would ever see. Her eyes are like melted caramel defined by sharp tear-ducts, round and petite with thin eyebrows leading to a pointy nose and downward turned lips. Her face is also diamond-shaped like Sylvine but hers is softer than the host’s.
On the other hand, Hojeong is just like an older version of Hoseok but his movements are even more precise than his son’s. You can tell why he is in the position he is in, he seems to have everything under control, with a sharp eye on his surroundings. He was likely chosen through vote and not through combat.
The first time you met him you were travelling with your parents and it was also the first time you met Jungkook and captivated the latter with your scent.
It is polite and tradition to present your respects to a pack leader, by paying a little visit, when you cross his or her domain.
That aside, Hojeong seems to have the ability to grow a beard -while his son has a really smooth face- and has his hair falling over his eyes at the front, in a man bun at the back. Unavoidably, you smirk a little, recognising the hairstyle as a wolf-cut.
It’s then that Jungkook and his parents enter and take their positions on the opposite side of where you are, giving their back to the window. It’s easy to tell from where Jungkook gets his looks since both his parents are good-looking.
The defined and striking jawline comes from his father. Those beautiful doe eyes that speak worlds of emotions and the full and well-defined lips come from his mother. He is a perfect combination of the two.
Like that, you get to have a look at the whole picture of people in the room. The obvious differences and diversity within the scarce members left from your species make you feel hopeful. You have adapted well to the new era and have been able to dissolve useless disputes for territory since the possibility of moving around for new land has also increased. Blending with humans would have been much more difficult before you were born but nowadays some people have grown tolerant and even fascinated by all that’s different. Finding them has been a blessing to keep away those who, if they know what you are, would erase you from the earth.
All these different people coming together for a cause could have been a scene you would have loved in another circumstance. Other than to mediate something that wasn’t supposed to have happened at all.
The leaders sit in front of each other in the middle of the table, facing each other. The host now stands with his back against the frame of the closed door to avoid interruptions from the outside and to also be present in the handling of a situation that has transpired under his domain. Although Jungkook is facing you at the table, he doesn’t meet your stare, eyes downcast over the table where his hands are put together, ready to listen, and you are glad he doesn’t since you can’t put your own feelings into words. Would he have apologised if he had been allowed to? You can’t know.
Either way, he should be ashamed.
At your leader's command, you begin explaining your part of what has transpired and Jungkook’s mother puts her hand over his when he almost speaks at the second the troubling moment is mentioned. He keeps quiet as you finish expressing the same confusion you have explained to Yuuki and his mother.
Eilith speaks first, standing and looking at you, "I hear you and I'm sorry you have experienced this."
Jungkook’s hands close into fists.
"Now, young man, what do you have to say for yourself?" inquires Hojeong, whose demeanour shows no mercy.
"I intended to pull out, you have to believe me," he says with a certain tone of anguish in his voice that makes your eyes not want to meet his. You’re doubtful if it's a lie what you will see in his eyes, having felt so violated by his actions. "Please, look at me," he pleads and you can tell he is talking to you. The second you do, after tilting your head in avoidance, conflicted with yourself, there's sincerity in those wet, doe eyes. And you know that unless he is a master at masking ill intentions, he believes in what he is saying. “I admit I was caught up in the moment, yes, but I had the intention to pull out. I'm sorry I didn't speak my intentions out loud or that I didn't make myself clear enough. This misunderstanding is totally on me. I'm truly sorry I scared you. Please forgive me, " he concludes, lowering his chin with shame.
After taking a long, scrutinising glare at him, you finally look away. Weighing his words.
"I believe you," you respond and then meet your father's eyes, who takes in your body language and nods, then your mother's, who takes your hand in hers. When you look at Jungkook again, he seems relieved but he is still unsettled.
"Fairly, if you don't require him to be punished, I shall recommend you express your intentions to her next time. Communication during the act—" tries to lecture Hojeong. His objective in this matter is clearly to set a record straight and clear the air.
However, you are not accepting this as a precedent for future encounters. Yet you don’t want to cause discordance in front of both of your parents and the pack leaders. His mother has the semblance of a good person and maybe in the future, if things fall into place that way, you could consider her son.
To accept a mate now, however, when you have just obtained the freedom to make your own choices without the need to consult with your parents, feels rushed and wrong. You have spoken about the differences between dating human boys as you have and what it is doing so with loup-garous with your mother.
Sex isn’t the same, you can now tell, even if you just scratched the surface of what you have been told it can be. And so it feels like limiting your options isn’t wise. Especially not when you have to make peace with how you have perceived him in this situation.
You want opportunities, you want to see what is out there, and want to know what choices you have to make on your own. Mating, choosing a partner for the rest of your life, just as you thought earlier, seems pretty restricting to you. And you don’t know Jungkook enough to think the opposite.
In fact, you don’t know him at all. Even if you still may want to.
“May we have a moment to speak alone?” you interrupt the lecture, standing. Out of respect for your elders, it is expected you will be the ones walking out of the room to talk and then come back. He follows suit as soon as your eyes meet his and you start walking in the door’s direction.
"There will be no next time," you say point-blank as soon as you close the door.
There’s a ruckus from the barbecue party forming outside with only a few people chilling inside. You can tell they were listening, which isn’t wrong, the privacy was for you to be more comfortable. For any other trial, everyone would have been in the same room.
He tenses up. “I know how our kind follow each other for mating and I know they may think that's what we were doing. But I don’t intend to pursue a relationship with you, Jungkook,” you express sincerely, meeting his eyes.
“I am truly sorry, please forgive me,” he answers solemnly, and when his first instinct is to put his hands on your cheeks, he stops himself, letting them fall to his sides. putting You don’t know if that would have brought you comfort but to see him hold back is a reason to believe him further.
He looks kind of pale.
“I do,” you say calmly, “but it doesn't change anything.”
He appears troubled but you are truthful in your words. Even if nothing had happened, even if the situation was different, you wouldn't continue engaging with him. You shouldn't, as your mother warned you earlier.
“I respect that,” he says lowering his head again. “I just ask you to give me another chance, at least to get to know each other, when you find in yourself the will to. Please?” He begs. “I know I have, but I really didn’t mean to hurt you and I wish to make up for it. If you let me…”
His doe eyes and his sad expression move you and you feel that a second chance can be given this time.
“Alright,” you say with a small smile and the way his face brightens with a wide one, making your heart skip a bit.
“Let me know when you are ready,” he says with a small bow and the clear intention to go back inside, you nod although he doesn’t see you and then holds the door open for you.
“I see you two have made peace,” states Hojeong, pleased and with a smile plastered on his face. “I’m glad I don’t have to chase you down and rip your throat as our law would demand if you had indeed done that on purpose and taken what wasn’t given to you,” he says, a little bit sterner. “Next time, use your head. Hm?” he adds before putting his forehead momentarily against Jungook's and patting his shoulder before addressing you. “Should he cause you any trouble, you come to me and I’ll set him straight.”
You nod and he walks out.
“Do you think we can leave it here or do you need counselling? I’ll be at both your disposition in case any of you needs me,” settles Eilith, putting hands on both your shoulders, looking at each of you.
“I think I’m good but I’ll keep it in mind,” you reply, lowering your chin and she puts her forehead to yours before leaving too.
“I’m glad this was sorted,” says the host, leaning against one of the frames of the open doors. “I’ll see you outside,” he comments and you two lower your chins with respect.
“Let’s join the party, shall we?” suggested your father putting his hand for a shake in front of Jungkook's father when they stand up. His father takes it with a slight smile and then they shake it and smile before patting each other on the shoulder. Comfort takes over you as you see the scene and then feel warm seeing your mothers embrace and exchange kind words towards each other as they all head out. They all look at you as if part of the same mind and say in unison.
“Should we trust leaving you two alone?”
You two bulge your eyes but nod, enchanted and processing the coincidence of their matched words. Then they finally leave and you observe them walk towards the doors that lead outside, invested in a small chat.
Jungkook shifts at your side nervously. He doesn’t want to leave but also doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable. The appearance of Yuuki at the door feels like his cue to leave but as she enters, so do his friends, closing the door behind themselves.
Yuuki is next to you in a second, carefully taking hold of your arm while also putting you slightly at her back.
Jungkook takes steps back as Seokjin, his elder walks directly in his direction, dominant. “Sit down,” he orders and Jungook doesn’t hesitate.
If they were in their pelts, you know Jungkook would have presented his belly.
Jimin takes a sit on the table, crossing his fingers under his chin with eyes lost in the table.
“Hi, miss. Want us to bollock this youngster? Just to make sure he got the record straight?” wonders Yoongi sitting next to Jimin unceremoniously while looking at his shape-shift nails before glancing up to Jungkook.
“I think he understands it just fine, sir,” you say before looking at Jungkook, who looks worried again but doesn’t raise his head. Even if you would have done it yourself before the trial, you don’t want six males ass-kicking him. It now seems excessive as the situation settles in.
“Why are you here?” you demand, trying a monotone but making it clear that you are bothered. Yuuki looks at you surprised but chuckles, reminding herself who she is friends with. Yet she doesn’t let go.
“We don’t mean to be rude,” replies Taehyung bowing and then walking in before taking a seat.
“We were worried sick, you imbecile,” responds Seokjin taking one step away so Jungkook, can properly look at him. “I told you to keep it in your pants with that drive you were showing.”
“We couldn't believe what we were hearing out there,” adds his piece Hoseok. “We got out to hunt and came back to find out you had done something horrible.”
“I would have never expected that,” Jimin says looking at him.
“So glad it was a misunderstanding,” adds Namjoon getting closer and putting a hand on his shoulder then looking at you to make sure he’s got the information right.
“I never doubted you, brother,” says Taehyung standing and crouching in front of Jungkook’s head against his chest.
The bond created between them is beautiful in your eyes. The blend of their hug as Jungkook stands warms your heart. But when they all turn to look at you, you feel small and vulnerable.
“We apologise for what this empty-headed pup has put you through,” says Seokjin.
“We don’t approve of his behaviour and you have us at your disposal if he forgets how he should treat you or any other female again,” concludes Namjoon.
“If you don’t need us, we will leave now,” says Taehyung. You shake your head and they bow before turning around to do just that. Jungkook is the only one who looks back.

A long table spreads all across the pathway entrance to the house, full of the attendant's chairs and a mouthwatering feast.
Raw hunt meat is the focus of the feast with side dishes such as honeyed carrots, butter chickpeas with bacon, eggplant and sweet potato oven-fries, marinated cabbage and fieldbeans in blood-sauce. The humans invited would have been disgusted were it not for being sent away when the sun was nearing the mountains before the pull of the moon was strong.
You have to sit at one end of the table with your pairs, which means being close to Jungkook. For his part, he tries his best to leave you be, chit-chatting about this and that with others and avoiding eye contact.
But when you have to pass plates to serve yourselves, your eyes cross a few times and he tries his best to not stare for long, filling his face with his food. The image draws a sympathetic smile on your face.
In a moment where you all fall silent to listen to one of you explain with all sorts of details the first time he was on a hunt and how great it was to finally join the adults, your eyes cross again. You notice he has a grain of rice in his lower lip and mindlessly points at it, still focused on hearing the story.
His eyes bulge at first, then you realise you have pointed at your own lips and point at him. Then you realise everyone is looking at you and the guy who sits next to him glares at him and rolls his eyes before plucking the little piece of food from the lip.
The detail is quickly forgotten, as you all move focus to the other end of the table as the host calls for attention hitting his cup with a spoon.
“Today we celebrate that some members of our community have reached the two-hundred and fifty-two moons that it takes for a loup-garous to reach its maturity and as it is tradition and ritual, in the full moon that is rising above us, tonight, they shall lye inside the forest, their pelt as one, and let the moon make them dream as one,” he explains. “As our story tells us, Rougarou ran through the pooled moonlight on a night in our people's ancient past. The stories say that by ritual, sacrifice, and sacrament, they opened their souls to the Forest God, the great hunter who took the shape of the wolf. To reward them for their devotion, his mate, the Moon, gave them the gift of being more than human. Then they could throw aside the pelts of hunted animals and grow their own, abandon their knives of flint and use their teeth. Their children's children's children still carried the beast within, and all were subject to the Moon. And up until this day and for years to come that will not change. For tribute, we have bled the beasts that lay in our tables and we honour and thank the moon, as we eat their raw flesh, for the gift she gave us.”
A ruckus breaks the silence as the packs hit the table and shout and growl. You don’t miss the opportunity to do the same.
With full bellies, the turn comes slow but deliciously. Hair prickling from underneath the skin to cover your skin. Bones stretch and mould to transform into the structure of a wolf until you are on your fours with muscles made to run and chase.
You are to find the spot in the forest where others have also fulfilled this tradition before you, without more help than one of your senses and the forest itself.
The younger ones test their strengths as they advance through a clear trail. They push each other and make each other surrender with a playfulness that sometimes holds a bite too strong or a push too hard, but doesn’t create animosity regardless.
On the other hand, one of them doesn’t leave you alone, he presses against your shorter frame, stopping you in your tracks, getting in front of you, and you have to skirt him to be able to sniff the trail which leads to him growling at you for attention and wagging his tail when you look at him. ‘Puppy!’ you think, scolding him internally.
The second time you ignore him he tries to throw the weight of his body over your back to lay you down and before he knows another three plus Jungkook have him yelping on the ground.
Then another female comes near you and brushes you before putting her snout under yours and you reply by leaning into her. She stops suddenly, looking at a spot inside the forest as if the moon were a torch directing its light. You can see a white deer that vanishes before your eyes as all of you try to approach.
There you see it. The marks on the trees that guide the group all the way to what you were looking for, the clearing where the moon lights every corner. Where the floor is almost clear from roots and covered in a blanket of clovers.
As you walk in carefully, you touch with your nose the soft leaves and let yourselves fall on your bellies before rolling. As if you shared the same brain cell on what to do. Slowly standing to lie back next to each other, without caring about who is who and what belongs to whomever. Joint by nuzzles over bellies, paws over paws heads over necks. Until the last of you closes its eyes and the light of the moon waves inside your lids taking you to the world of dreams.
The image that proceeds holds you all running with internal laughter inside the same forest until you reach the house. There you can see your people still celebrating, hawling to the moon in their human form to which all of you join inside and out of the dream, until it vanishes.
Then you see the same landscape without the house, slowly blurring the line between present and past to see the first rougarou that walked here. Their bodies covered in furs with spikes in their hands, hunting the white deer and failing as they run inside the forest. They reached the clearing at some point, and there they offered the meat they had gotten to the wolf that had been leading their steps to find the meat that would fill their bellies.
Then, the images came rushing to you like a breeze that kept you stuck in place. You saw the way the moon shone over the man and woman, and how after dancing around the fire, their jumps and twirls turned them into the pelted creatures that you all had descended from.
From there, the images flow at high speed letting you see centuries of rougaurous coming and going to this same spot, led in by the white deer to give the clairvoyance of its origins to all the rougarou that wanted to know them.
Through and through, you finally land in your days and see yourselves lying there, unbothered.
You see yourselves slowly standing while looking at each other then walking back to the house where others also sleep and coming forward, a disconnected image.
There is a rougarou whose pelt you can't recall, feeding on something. As you approach the shared feeling of utter horror and panic is noticeably shared. The creature has between his teeth the flesh from a human body.
Suddenly, voices can be heard. The calls of human hunters and the wolves run straight to the house where others are also in their animal form. The sound of shots fills the opening, deafening all of you.
The eyes, however, can see it all, the bodies of your people falling as they try to flee the scene. Only to find themselves surrounded, falling to a bloody death.
Quickly the house and pathway cover up in piles of bodies with bullet holes in them. A couple of your kin trying to escape through the lake drown and float as bullets reach their spines.
The victory sounds of the humans as they see all of the bodies lying around fill all of you with anger and pain but as you try your best to free yourselves from the grip of the dream and reach those humans or die trying, one by one all of you wake.
Still holding the pain and confusion from the dream, as soon as one recovers the control over their limbs, it runs through the forest towards the house. One by one, all of you follow, stopping in your tracks when you see the place unharmed. Only the smell of water, earth and wild nature lingered in the air between the sleeping familiar bodies.
As if still guided by one main thought, all of you howl to the fear and the moon starting to disappear under the rays of the unstoppable sun on its rise.
And as your packs in their pelts wake up and respond to the call, when your eyes cross with Jungkook’s, you know the thought is shared. ‘Was it a vision of the future or a warning?’

I hope you enjoyed this. Let me know your thoughts and reblog to let it spread 😊 See you soon! ~
